Elvis rebounded incredibly in October\76. 1976 was some fairly average to bad concerts till then. He lost likely a good 25 lbs, seemed way less doped up, coherent, full energy. It last till at least into February\77. March\77came along and it was a steady downfall. Canceled concerts, sluggish, sometimes he was only on stage for about 50 minutes. Bandmates were certain he didn't know what city he was in.. By June he should have been in rehab and treated with all of his health concerns which included his heart which on all accounts was about to erupts....and it did.

Elvis rallied in ‘74. Clear-headed. More energetic. I’ve never believed the claim that the audience “didn’t like’ the new format (which really was a minor but welcome tweak.) I think that’s bull. I was there. And I know how great it was to see a new, fresh approach with cool songs like “Down in the Alley.” It was frankly crazy that he did essentially the exact same show for years. Weird and boring as hell.

After This Show He Stayed Pissed off aug 20-fall 74 shows.

These December 76 performances are such a weird anomaly. It was a year filled with various different shows that would be strong contenders for the worst gigs he ever gave. Where he was in obvious trouble. The Houston one was so bad I almost felt like crying listening to him on it. Then this mini tour in December he's all guns blazing, performing so strongly, looking genuinely healthy and happy, or healthier and happier at least, singing better than he had in ages, and bantering with the audiences. Razor sharp wit and his voice steady and sure when talking and singing. Fast forward six months and he's filmed performing a couple of months before dying. A performance not as bad as some of the worst of 76, but you only need to take one look at him, or hear him speak. He barely can speak at points. It's such a rapid decline. I've heard some people say it's cos of his new relationship with ginger and was at that time happy with all of that. It's so weird though. I feel like there must be more to it than that.
