A Daughter's Tears written & performed by Kesia Shani
This is a poem I wrote to honor my father titled A Daughter's Tears. He passed away in 2003 and I still miss him. Everything is written by me. My original work. His birthday is August 31, so this is a tribute and celebration of him, his life, and legacy. I hope this poem helps soothe the heart and pain of anyone grieving a loved one. No matter how long it's been. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD! I love you.

Your natural hair is beautiful! Don't allow anyone to make you feel any differently. Embrace your kinks, curls, coils, braids, and afro! Baby, you are gorgeous! I can't lie though; I am ready to get box braids again lol. Natural hair can be a lot of work, so I'm going to give myself a break and get braids soon. #hair #storytime #hairstyle #naturalhair #natural #beauty #curls #coils #braids

Everything you say is spot on. I am so sorry that your colleagues did not support you. This is the ultimate betrayal. I made it for 30 years, but I had to retire a year or two early for mental health reasons. I had some good administrators, a strong union, good pay for the part of California where I live, and some wonderful parents and students over the years. I always tried to help any new teacher with lessons and emotional support. I think cell phones and social media has turned many students into sad, angry, ignorant, racist, and cruel beings who do not care about learning. I reverted back to my Army training and discipline to manage my classes, but it was no longer joyful or interesting. I hope you find happiness and belonging wherever you go Shani.

My mom taught 7th grade for 38 years and loved it. I agree with someone who wrote that it is a calling. Im glad you left because going to a job you hate every day is definitely bad for your health. I hope you found something you like better now .. 12:44 im not finished listening yet so you may get around to this topic. So you're telling that most parents failed their children by raising them like dolls and not real human beings? I've noticed that a lot, too - sad surprise. Not a teacher, but I used to volunteer at kids camp/activities at church. Even there, some are not well-behaved. Very common. Parents thinks their kid is better that the other ; let them missbehave with a smile on their face ; do not take your advice seriously or take action if their kid did something really wrong. One day, a kid from church told me to my face "You should do exactly what we want because our parents pay you." Well, I'm not pay. Not even a dime. I'm helping for free this church. I didn't want to create any fuss as it wasn't my church, I was just helping for a turn-around... But these words revealed to me how much parents speak freely around their offsprings, and how entitled they think they are. Genuily afraid of this upcoming generation of adults... Social Media screwed up their brain. Sad to hear your testimony. Hope you get your spark back. Take care of yourself first and always.

I understand how you feel. There are many problems in the schools. The biggest problem I think is the behavior of the students and the fact that the administrators do nothing about it and do not support the teachers. It creates a lack of respect to the adults. Our students need to be prepared for the future not being coddled at school. Everything shifted to entertaining the students. The parents do not want to partner with the teachers because they are working and tired too. The schools depict what is happening in our society and it is not good at all. As a specialist in the schools I went to all grades and many classrooms and most of what I saw was not teaching. How can you teach when the students have cell phones and walk out of the class when they feel like it. Also we have many damaged students who are drug babies or other situations. They cannot manage in a typical classroom but we are expected to include them. It takes time away from teaching. Even the very young children have no readiness skills and severe behavior problems. There are constant interruptions as you say. I could go on and on....people just do not know. I wanted my friend to stop working but she had a soft spot for the special needs children as I do and went back after retiring. The school was happy to have her skills for 2 days and then she was injured by a student and after leaving the hospital she had to go to a rehab for several months. There is no control in the schools. city, country, rich, poor, it does not matter......You are correct, nobody wants to hear it. I feel sorry for the children who are being ignored. God bless you!

I thought it was common knowledge that teachers are underpaid and overworked. Why are people still entering this profession with their eyes closed? Anyone choosing to become a teacher should do so with the understanding of the challenging conditions this young lady describes. If one still chooses to become a teacher then do so with a pre-implemented strategy of how you will combat those challenges. You have to strategize and plan your life. Especially if you know ahead of time how teachers are treated.

I'm glad this video has been made and viewed. Students in the UK are this. Disrespectful, glued to the phone, go to principal offices and come to class and continue the work. A LOT of teachers are in denial about this. I feel like I am the only one stating the facts, the TRUTH about toxic positively.. NOT FIXING Problems.

I’m a student in high school right now, and I was planning on being a teacher. I have had a lot of concerns about going into the profession, and hearing your story and everyone’s story in the comments is very informative. I know as a student I don’t respect teachers because they are authority or adults or whatever, I respect them because they are people. It confuses me immensely how students can’t at least do the same. Proud of you for getting out :)
