It's Finally time for our VAN TOUR - 2015 Ford Transit, Van Tour after 7 months of fulltime Vanlife
It's been a while in the making but it's finally time to show you a full tour of our 2015 Ford Transit. We filmed this in October 2021 when we still in Tuscany but have only just found some time to edit all the footage.
Everything we talked about then remains true today, the living space of the van is very comfortable and everything so far seems to be working really well despite us living and travelling in this van full time for over 7 months.
Any questions or queries are welcome in the comments. If you want to know a bit more about how we carried out any specific part of the build then check out the vanbuild playlist as this shows every part of the build from start to finish.
All music is from Epidemic Sound.

VANLIFE TURKEY - A day in the life sheltering from severe weather plus more cave adventures
มุมมอง 2852 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we show you what we got up to when severe thunderstorms rolled into south Turkey in early January. This kind of weather is tricky to navigate in a van so we opted to take a break for 10 days. When we got back to the van we discovered a nasty surprise. Join us as we explore Fethiye and Antalya and visit some beauty spots as well as some incredible natural formations. All music in the v...

FINAL ITLAY VANLIFE VLOG - We took a MAD ferry from Italy to Greece plus our final days in Italy
มุมมอง 2422 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we say goodbye to the beautiful country of Italy and say hello to the wonderful land of Greece! It was so sad to say goodbye to Italy as we has such an amazing time here and we thoroughly enjoyed our last few days by visiting some beautiful (and wild!) beaches. They were some wins on eBay. The seats are captain swivel seats from a T4 and the seat base is another driver side seat base. We had to cut the screws for the (would-be) handbrake from the left side of the base to prevent things from snagging on them.

    If it's any consolation I had exactly the same problem when I fitted mine. What model of stereo and rear camera are you using?

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The radio is a Sony XAV-AX1005DB and the camera is a Connects2 CAM-FD7. The radio needed a DS-FO015.2 adapter to make the radio fit the van connections. Bought that from Dynamic Sounds. We had to get a new fascia to surround the new radio. That was a Connects2 CT23FD68. We also bought it from Dynamic sounds. The camera needed power from the same live pin that the radio got. To make the radio switch on when we put the van into reverse, we had to splice a connection into the reversing lights. It would have been easier for us if we had known we had to do that right at the beginning before we closed away the more obvious reverse light cables at the back of the van. Instead we had to probe the cables that run down the driverside pillar (beside the windscreen) with a multimeter, stick the van into reverse while probing each wire, to see if the voltage went above 12V. (It’s always the last cable you try)

    • @bendonegan9901

      Hi! I’m literally wanting to install the same set up but with a pioneer halo9. My loom seems to want me to splice into a reverse camera at the front of the cab rather than the back making this hard work, where you’ve tapped in seems a good place. Can you confirm the wire colour please, I’m going to do the same so I can run a wire into the dash for the reverse connection. Great video by the way, a cool van 😎

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ben, When we were researching which wire, we found different stories all over the internet. Honestly, can’t remember the colour. There were lots of similar wires making things ambiguous. The best way to be certain is to painstakingly probe each wire in turn with a multimeter. If the voltage goes to over 12V when you whack it into reverse, you’ve found your cable. (and don’t be fooled by weird cables going to ~0.5V)

    Agreed about the bolts that come with these, I immediately bought some more that were longer. I also used the space of the van underside braces to move the tank below the regulator. I found it weird that the box was higher than tank, so used a few aluminium spacers to give me the extra space. I used a hydraulic jack to lift my tank, but admittedly this was a little fiddly to get it flat to insert the bolts. Any angle at all, the bolts will not go in. I notice you did the stomach lift, I tried that for a bit, but it is not light! Getting the template right seemed to take the most amount of time. I did have to make my holes a touch bigger later to get the angles on the tank right, but seemed to be the best way to do it. I have coated mine with protector too, but only after fitting. I see a lot of people do it before and then say how messy it is. Easier to do after! Thinking about getting a stone chip plate to go in front of the tank too, especially if I ever do any off reading.

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it really is strange that the box is a little higher than the tank. I wish we had a jack to lift the thing! We wound up wobbling two old wooden pallets underneath it in the end. Absolute faff, so it was so worth it

    Hey Jojo and Scott, you dont have any "camper windows", does that mean your vehicle is not registered as a camper/conversion?

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of our main goals with the van was to make sure it was secure, and stealth is part of that. Sure, the big yellow thing is obvious, but adding windows makes it obviously a camper. To the untrained eye, it’s just a trade van. The DVLA also require decals on the van to allow it to be registered as a camper. Also, windows are another point of entry for thieves. So, no, it’s not registered as a camper. We have found it works really well for strath camping in busy cities and the added benefit of no windows is that it doesn’t heat up like an oven in summer!

    I don't think your supposed to put any human waist in a gray tank I think it just becomes a black tank that your not putting chemicals in.

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a very complex topic and one we looked into a lot as we designed the van. The dictionary definition of “sewage” is literally waste water that is carried away in sewers. This means both grey water and black water are technically sewage. A grey tank is supposed to be just waste water from the sink/shower so the dumping laws vary and some places deem it fine to treat as ‘soak away’ so it can be emptied on the ground. The only information we could find on the legalities of adding urine to a grey tank is that it needs to be diluted 1:5 with water and then it can be treated as grey waste. Bearing this in mind, we try to add plenty of water to our grey and and use water to flush down the urinal whenever we use it. As we don’t know exactly what our dilution ratio is we take great care to only use specific dump stations to empty our grey tank. We especially look out for ones that the grey and black get emptied in the same place as then there’s no uncertainty about where the waste is going. In France and Italy especially every second truck stop on the main highways have very good dump stations so it’s very easy in these countries and otherwise we use the appropriate facilities at campsites. We even have a collapsible bucket (shown in the video) that we can use to decant the waste water and carry it to a sewage dump when we can’t park close enough. This works well when the only option is a nearby toilet (there were lots of squatting toilets in Turkey perfect for this!). We regularly clean the tank by rinsing it with strong bleach and fresh water and empty this into dump station facilities to try and keep it as hygienic as possible.

      @@JojoandScott was that definitely low enough? in the video it still seems to be sticking up a fair bit. In the middle of adapting mine and even with it say on the floor its still too high :/ not loving this bit.

      The seat sits up very high on the seat base but we do have to park the van and leave it in gear to lower the hand break before we twist the seat around. It does look fairly high but it doesn’t impact the functionality of the swivel seat which is good. Good luck with your van I hope it all works out for you 🤞

    I love how you go from using your wee, old-school hand tools one minute to the biggest, badass power drill ever the next! 🤣

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has to be one extreme or the other!😆 honestly, we didn’t want to buy loads of tools with all the costs of the build mounting up, so it often ended up with us using equipment that was way overpowered or the other extreme! It was a bit ridiculous 😂

    Has the thin ply for the floor stood the test of time? Got to admire your patience; it all seems a bit of a faff! 🤣

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 😊 we were definitely fed up with it towards the end of the build! The thin ply was laid down as subfloor and the main reason for this was to protect the insulation as we worked away building furniture. We eventually cover it with underlay and then vinyl click flooring so it’s well hidden now!

    Haha - I'm exactly the same with spiders. Once you've seen them, you've got to know where they are at all times! 🤣

      That spider remained there for a year and it was so creepy. One day in 2021 it just vanished and I’ve never been completely comfortable in the garage since! 😂

    Looking forward to the rest of this series. Were you particularly looking for a Transit or was this just a good deal? Just wondering what your thinking was and - now it has presumably been completed - if you have any regrets with your choice of make/model?

    • @JojoandScott
      @JojoandScott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We had our minds set on either a Ford or a Mercedes and they both seem to be pretty reliable. This was August 2020 so coming out of lockdown vans were getting tricky to come by. A 2015 Ford transit ended up being the only option in our price range that was in good shape (the mechanics not the bodywork!). We have been living in the van full time for over 6 months now and have driven it to Turkey. It’s been on some mad roads, steep mountains and has endured very well. It had a pretty high mileage when we bought it so we were expecting some wear and tear and unfortunately the turbo went in south Turkey. At that point we were happy to have a Ford because we could just take it straight to the Turkish Ford garage in the next city and within 48 hours they had it fixed and back on the road! Ford garages are easy to find everywhere and the parts are not as expensive as some other models of van as well as easy to come by. The van has really impressed us overall and despite the set back is running better than ever. It starts up like a dream even in extreme cold and damp. Looking back, I would 100% go for a transit again, but that’s just our experience!

      We’ve been following your old route then! We just passed through Bulgaria and Serbia. We arrived in Croatia just yesterday. It already feels like we’ve gone back in time. It must have been amazing to see it as Yugoslavia! Thank you!

Turkey and the surrounding countries absolutely do have so many brilliant things to see and do. We're both hoping you get to head off on more travels again, yourself. Fingers crossed that all the pices fall into place to get you on the road again!
