It's called the Yellowstone of California. I still very much look forward to visiting Yellowstone at some point.

The beautiful thing is that he hopefully will find just as many amzing places over in the UK. We loved exploring Cape Town and this park was an absolute highlight for us. We hope your son will experience just as much beauty over in the UK now.

We love it from above. From below it can get depressing after a while :D. But the view over the land today, with cloud cover as far as the eye could see was just amazing.

I have fond memories of the Rotorua area from my travels. Such a beautiful place. Swimming in one of the pools, including the 2 hour bus ride to a shower 😁. That smell... But the colors... So beautiful. Thank you for joining us on this trip on the other side of the world

I guess the basin is the highlight of the trail, but I loved the contrast between the dark color of the lake and the orange grass. It was also a lot quieter. It is nice to hear that we could even show you something new in your own backyard 😊

Thank you 😊. It was my personal highlight of the park. Such beautiful views. But the wind was so strong... Even too strong to walk the entire rim of the cone.

I believe it is in the shadows of the likes of Yellowstone and Yosemite. We intentionally visited a small national park, to keep the more famous ones for trips with the partners. This was a work-trip and we all had our loved ones at home. I sure hope to return sometime soon and also visit the more well known parks.

You are really blessed in the USA with so many beautfiul national parks, even if they require some time to reach. I had to travel to SF for work, and we took the weekend to enjoy some of the natural beauty. Have you done this hike yourself?

We did read quite some scary reviews about it before we went, but it was quite fun. The ascent was strenuous, sure, but some described it as an endless struggle. I am glad that we got to do it, despite the weather. It was my personal highlight of the park 😊

@HikeForHappiness my favorite hiking destination is Bumpass Hell. It's like a mini Yellowstone.

Our trip was in October. The weather was a bit rainy from time to time, but still a really nice temperature for hiking. Especially, it was not too hot in the sun.

@@HikeForHappiness I will be there in the first week of December. Thinking to start planning hikes and hotels, but dont know with hikes will be open. I don't understand P1 where is open and where is closed..

From what I heard, it is not closed due to seasons, but due to damages, so it might be closed for multiple months. You will have quite some options along different levadas, but this one might be out of reach for the moment. That said, I am not up to date, so I cannot guarantee what we heard to be correct.

It was a fun little walk, despite the vicinity to the city. A little less wild than usual, but a good walk 😊

Be gentle with an old man, struggling up a steep incline. That camera weighs heavy on my back 🤪. The geothermal features were a nice addition and at least on a grey day, barely anyone around. I still have difficulties considering you a hermit, but I bet you would have enjoyed that one.

I've not seen anything like this pot setup before, although I've been at a few places where they cook with steam from geothermal features. It's fun to think about the comfort of food in the vicinity of something potentially so devestating. The constant eruptions of the volcano in Iceland show how close we live to these dangerous locations for decades and centuries.
