10% Battery Degradation 50,000 miles
มุมมอง 7948 หลายเดือนก่อน
After 50,000 miles of range, I noticed my Tesla only had 90% of its original range. 15,000 miles later, as of this video, I am at 65,000 miles of range currently with just over 10% battery degradation. This may be normal but according to the data, the battery has seemed to level out at 10% without showing a noticeable decrease in the last 15,000 miles

I bought Falken Wilpeak A/T Trail 255/50/19 tires and I used MY LR OEM rim 19 x 9.5 no modification/problem. I don't have to buy the wheels. I really don't care about range changes it's still very efficient EV. I'm planning to buy another set of tires size 255/50/20 to replace my other MY LR w/ induction wheels but not sure if 255/50/20R will fit w/ induction wheels 20x9.5...good vid indeed...
Dude, if there is an award for the biggest balls, my vote goes to you!
@@AdamFrugoli hahaha, carefully calculated risk sir!
I wonder while using FSD, if Chill mode even matters for all of this? Regarding the driving feel, I don’t notice a difference when I change it to Chill, in FSD.
Hi nick, It's Peter from Jowua. Is there a way to contact you to support and collaboration ?
Hi, yes my email is now on my profile, I also have setup BrandConnect through TH-cam
Move propane tank to the rear while trailering, your tongue weight will really be reduced
@@stevesupalla350 as long as you have at least 10% of the weight on the tongue
The cold effects the range a lot. Here's my experience from the last two years. I have a 2023 MYP and I'm NJ. I get 120 miles from a charge of 95% down to 5% in the winter. In the summer, I got 180 miles. Yeah those are real world range numbers driving in chill mode and using the car like a normal person (mixed highway/city driving , heat on etc). Still a great car if you don't have to drive far. I supercharge once a week during off peak hours and it cost $15 and takes 45 mins.
The entire purpose of the frameless windows dropping upon opening is to break any ice seal on the window. Any ice-bound adhesion strong enough to defeat the window-drop feature is ice _strong enough to shatter the window glass if you yanked the door open while the window is still frozen to the frame._
@@BogeyTheBear yes, that’s why if you don’t see the window come down when it’s frozen, don’t pull
That’s not entirely true. Tesla wanted a more premium feel, so they used frameless windows on their cars. In order for the window to avoid ripping out the trim of the vehicle, they made the window lower upon opening.
@@FreeFlightGuy How can you say _"That's not true"_ and then repeat the very thing I wrote?
Chill mode? Like the acceleration mode or what? I'm confused by the first tip
That’s correct. Straight out of Tesla’s manual they say to use chill mode (acceleration) not sport because it lets the computer allocate more resources towards other things like the climate system. When in sport mode it has to be ready within milliseconds to apply full power to the motors. Somehow that leads to more energy loss
@@Adventures_with_nick but begs the question... if the battery is cold you get low regen. My LFP battery gives me next to no regen if the battery is at 0 degrees C. So wouldn't that mean I'll have more efficient heating and less efficient driving due to lower regen needing to use the brakes more.... I never have the power limit in the cold either
Great video.. I'm in Idaho so a new subscriber here
Great to have you join! More like this in a few weeks, heading out for more snow data
The whole towing thing with a Tesla is a problem. I'm buying a 2800 lb trailer to tow with my 2023 Model X. Tesla advises not to use a weight distribution hitch, due to the unibody design of the car. You’re also not supposed to have ball rise of more than .75”. It’s very hard to know what I should do, but I’ve decided to go with a hitch that rises to a proper level for the trailer, and skip the WDH initially and see how it tows at 60 mph.
@@thefish5861 yeah unfortunately to make a towing setup possible, you most likely will stray away from Teslas recommendation
Great video! Heat pumps are so cool.
With your 1st hand experience, what lift, wheel, and tire setup would you recommend. I live off grid in northern California with my 2024 myp
🎉
What model and year is the Trailer? I am looking for a lightweight one to tow.
I've been towing a similar size trailer with my '22 MYLR. A few things I found are: Use a weight distribution hitch, very helpful, the LR weighs about 5600#'s so it's very stable while hauling. I purchased a trailer brake system, but never needed it. The trailer mode makes regen braking extremely effectively. Hauling North or towards the prevailing winds greatly reduces range typically 70-80 miles max. South i can usually go about 100-110. Useless to charge to 100%. You loose the first 5% in like 2 miles, so it's not worth the extra 20+ minutes of charging time. It SUCKS that there are very few pull through chargers, which means that you have to disconnect the trailer to charge 🤯😮💨🤦🏼. Good to know that now they have a specific RV charge adapter, i had purchased all the different plug adapters, only to find out that RV connections are different and very specific the hard way. For me towing the trailer with my Y is actually less stressful than when i would haul with my Ford Edge, the engine was always having to REALLY work hard 4k rpm just to go 60 mph. However, range anxiety is a definite stress.
@@meangreencarpetcleaners3558 it’s definitely fun to tow with the Tesla, the range is an issue and I have to go 55 mph to get anything close to 100 miles. Do you think the weight distribution hitch helps with wh/mile? What is the weight distribution hitch rated for? Model Y is a class II tow hitch and therefore not rated for a weight distribution hitch, however I did some math based on the axil load and it can accommodate a 500 pound rated weight distribution hitch. I haven’t tried it yet
@@Adventures_with_nickI'm getting ready to start pulling a Casita TT behind my Model X next month , and all this towing info is driving nuts. The trailer is about 3,000 lbs max, but Tesla recommends not using weight distribution hitches, and also a very small rise on the hitch. I installed a brake controller, but now it sounds like I should set that super low, or else regen braking will keep using the trailer brakes? It is very hard to know what setup I should be using.
Hey, thanks for the video, wandering your camper weight, 3350 for this trailer seems low. should be around 4200 gross but I guess dealer would tell you this info and maybe it is very ultra light trailer. good luck!
@@st.k.4528 it is an ultra light weight trailer. You can tell unfortunately with the build quality inside
how much more battery does it consume compare to regular mode?
Damn 4500 pounds. No wonder the model three performance smokes that heavy ass van 🚐
Kim java did a test and it does significantly affect range.
24 y performance. 4k miles on it. Averaging 243W/mile by changing how I drive.
Do you think 275x50x18 would fit no rubbing??
I want one!
@@Pdxtesla I still absolutely love the lift. It’s so subtle it looks normal
Nice vid - subbed as just bought a MY new in UK.
Just a friendly heads up, continous electrical load is supposed to be at 80% of rated circuit. So a 30A circuit should have a charger set to 24A max.
@@MooseTurder that’s so true, I knew that too whoops. Thats why my home charger has a 60a breaker even though the max load is 48a
What is the Model X part number that you mention?
Get a scamp.
why didnt you get the LR over this one?
What about the MPH on the screen how does going from 21 to 18s work? Is it easy to set up on settings?
Falken wild peak siping is so shallow that they become tire spinners on the road in snow and rain after only 11k miles.
Nice video! Is this a new model Tesla model y with the heat pump?
@@0xCUBE yes it’s the heat pump Tesla! 2022 model but confirmed it has the heat pump. Interestingly, the heat pump is just as efficient as AC in the summer, if not even more so…
Aerodynamics at work it’s the wind dam that is the caravan.
@@DavidSmith-vq1cr exactly!
is there a difference in tow capacity between RWD, Long Range, and Performance?
@@Colin-s5b no tow difference in the long range and performance. There should be a tow difference in RWD but the chassis should be the same, so I really don’t know the answer to that. However the range would be drastically less in the RWD
Looks good. How are you feeling about them now?
Great content, more videos Nick👍👌
Here’s my honest question … I got a m3P is a 19” rim better then a 20” wheel for range ? And ride quality better ? Can’t find a 18” rim that’s not super expensive
lol nope an electric car is not an option for towing anything or even going camping!
What? Someone lied to you, bud.
I want to raise my rear 1 inch or 3/4 inch but no one sells lift springs for rear only
Because it’s not the 70s anymore. Also if you lift the rear only, when braking hard a lot of weight is thrown to the front. Your could end up handling very poorly in an emergency situation. A vendor could get sued.
@@davidwollpert5276 i carry alot on my hitch 90% of the time and it sags
@@xzinx stiffer springs? Shift your load?
@@davidwollpert5276 i need my hitch basket wont fit inside the car
@@davidwollpert5276 I would think it would help with sagging
Outstanding. I was looking for a way to decrease regen braking and shift more power to the front wheels. Even with really good snow tires the performance models are less than ideal snow cars because of the rear drive bias and braking - which of course make it fun in the dry. Keep up all of the great videos.
@@user-sw5sy9ek4k that makes sense, having more power in the front wheels is more stable, it’s safer to have control of the braking
Thank you!
Look at Alto Safari! Aero is way more important than weight! Also, weight distribution will make it safer!!
you can buy the TRAILER BRAKE ECU ADAPTER CABLE Pigtail OEM from Tesla SC for $4 and some change.
I think that Tesla adapter is rated for 50Amp but it pulls 45amp from charger
I’m curious how much this affects tire tread
@@NebuLushFlow significantly! Hard to quantify. The impact on the battery is far more concerning
2021+ model 3 aero wheels work on the model y as well. Not sure about the performance with bigger brakes. I think 18s with Aeros model Y will be near model 3 LR range numbers.
I really don’t get why Tesla is still pumping out new performance cars with the biggest/heaviest wheels still. If you want performance you want lightweight not bigger/heavier. 😅
Thanks Nick! I just created my Snow & Ice profile on my new MYP
@@rmardock winter is coming 😎
You towed the Tesla or towed _with_ the Tesla? 🧐
an so much stuff in the back seats too!!
@@sasaneon very true! 🫢
Would your set up work on a Tesla model 3?
No because the structure is different
@Adventures_with_nick advice needed: in your opinion, what would you recommend?
That's too much trailer. Check out Rove Lite trailers. They are the lightest you can get without going to a teardrop or something else that is very tiny.. They have aluminum framing and chassis. The one I'm getting is the 16RB. It's their biggest one at 16' and the dry weight is just over 2000 lbs.
Thank you for this guide. Just completed my 1st trip towing a Coleman 17B. What I did not expect was the significant heat on what I'm guessing is on the battery (or motors?). The car didn't like the 2000ft elevation gain in 80 miles. AC was still blowing cold, but the floor was radiating too much heat, and we're toasting inside. This was on a 90F night btw.
