Hey Luke, just found your channel. I just returned from a month in Buenos Aires and I'm trying to learn Spanish as well. I've heard about Dreaming Spanish and it seems like a different and interesting way to learn a language so I think I will give it a try. Your videos of your experience using this method are great so thank you for sharing. A few tips: if you want to see a soccer/futbol game, especially at La Bombonera, it's best to go with a local. Airbnb experiences has some options where someone will get tickets and take you to a game. It's a good and safe option and a great way to experience a game with others. Also, I highly recommend checking out La Bomba del Tiempo on Monday nights at Ciudad Cultural Konex. Feel free to message me if you want any more tips or recommendations. I stayed in Palermo, but I used google maps to take the Subte and buses to other areas of the city. Enjoy your trip!
I immediately hate this video because you're not speaking Spanish.
This gave me an headache because you are a extremly pessimistic person! lord..no confidence at alll geesh
You should have looked for Agustina! 😂
Did you start practicing speaking after how many hours of DS listening input?
I luv Dreaming Spanish but website has been glitchy for the past months, never got fixed so I unsubscribed.
Are you OK Luke? Any problem here in BA?
You did it man! Que genial!
I'm not sure how the tickets work, but definelly go to "La bombonera", it's unlike anything else
About the tickets: the taxi driver said "solo para los sócios". Which means that they sell only to partners, which is how we call the supporters of the club that pay for a membership, not companies. It's very common in Brazil for soccer teams to sell memberships to fans, and it seems to happen in Argentina as well.
Respect the carry-on only!! Check baggage is a scam
Hi! Can't believe you are here! I know you use Dreaming Spanish and have found the videos useful! Have the best stay in Argentina!!!
Thanks so much Agustina. Definitely wouldn’t be where I am without the team at DS. Looking forward to see what Argentina has to offer!
Aussie accent, interesante
I know, it's a work in progress! 😂
The taxi driver is not argentine, sounds like venezuelan to me
Yeah ur bang on. He was from Venezuela originally.
Welcome to Argentina! Enjoy your stay here. walk, walk, and walk. It's pretty safe (all safe as a 16 million people city could be) You have a lot a places to visit
Yeah it’s felt like a pretty safe city overall and yes plenty of walking is essential.
May God bless you
living my dream bro. love from brisbane!
Aha cheers for the support. I’ll try make the most of it.
here we actually go
Keen as a pig in mud for this vid
Great Luke, I look forward to more videos. John
Cheers John, I appreciate the support!
@@Lukelearnsspanish I was in Buenos Aires about 10 years ago and loved the place. Its better if you can speak Spanish. I could only say "Hola" then.
Nice bro, rate the mo. Hope its a sick trip.
Cheers bro. May shave it soon.
Your Spanish sounded pretty good. I'm sure it will get even better with more time there. I too have traveled solo and it taught me a lot about myself and what I can accomplish with only myself to rely upon.
Yeah for sure. It can be challenging at times, but a good challenge nevertheless
I've been looking forward to the first video in buenos aires, I'm looking to do the same thing myself next year! keep it up luke, loved watching your learning journey so far.
Thanks very much for the support 🙏
Let’s go Luke keen to see the content!
cheers georgey
Great Luke, I look forward to more videos. John
Yeah echo this georgey
I think whether or not you think in Spanish depends more on how many hours you are doing daily - I'm only at 704 hours but I think in Spanish a lot and often throw spanish into my english sentences. That was probably helped by 7 weeks in South America. But I do about 3 hours per day at the moment and I think in Spanish a lot more, especially just after I've been listening to Spanish.
Si Luke está siendo retenido como rehén en Sudamérica, tendrán problemas. I will launch a rescue campaign soon. it's going to be Collateral Damage 2
Wow I just came here from the video you did with spanishhacks, and i was shocked when you first started talking here, your regular accent is so different you sound like a different person when you talk spanish!
Love this episode, Ben is such a motivational learner
Thanks the support. Yeah his story is certainly motivational
This is going to be awesome!! Can’t wait to watch! Wish you said why you picked Argentina over other countries in south/Central America, all good though, looking forward to watching the journey!
Thanks so much for the support. The main reason I chose to start off in argentina is just because it is a fair bit eaiser to get to from Australia compared to other parts of America and it seemed like a cool country to start of in, really no deep and meaningful explanation aha.
@@Lukelearnsspanish That's cool man, Argentina is a great country from what I'm hearing especially right now with Javier as president
Enjoy Bro! Traveling is really fun and an eye opening experience. Looking forward to your future videos!
Thanks Joe, the same goes for you. Exciting times ahead for the both of us, I think.
Long time fan - excited for the trip ahead
Big fan of yours as well mate
Excited for the content Luke!
cheers georgey. keen mate
Let's gooooooo!!
Hey bro did you learn about the voseo?
Nah I haven't really learnt much about it. Just because I will be going to other countries as well with different accents.
Good luck, enjoy and stay safe in South America!
Thanks so much Alex 🙏
i love pablo 🥺🥺🥺 he is going to change language learning for the better
Yeah I think so too. Hes changed the game.
I've also been struggling with enjoying HelloTalk. I just get bored of the same small talk with everyone that shows up in the dms. I can't seem to connect long term and a lot of people come and go, especially when they find out you have a significant other. It seems it's used for dating a lot, and filtering through the HelloTalk messages to find someone serious about language exchange is exhausting. I'm glad it's not just me, because so many people recommend HelloTalk it's rediculous, and I just don't enjoy it at all.
Luke, I have been watching your videos and others have mentioned you on their channels to view yours. I’m so proud of you and your journey. Eres una persona especial, no se que es pero así es. 💯 I hope you are continuing your speaking journey to reach your goals of fluency. This was an excellent teacher in many ways.
Thanks so much. Comments like that make me keep going and wanting to improve. I’m glad that I’ve been able to assists some people with their own motivation.
You''re doing GREAT! Gracias por compartir
Cheers thanks. more to come soon :)
Are you no longer using worldsacross?
Consider a mass sentence language program like Glossika to help with your speaking practice. Also you may want to consider a more traditional school like Baselang, which teaches online with unlimited classes for like 170 dollars per month. There they take you through all the concepts of Spanish communication and maintain a record of your progress for any new tutor to pick up where you last left off. You can also just say you want to have a conversation instead of a lesson if you want to. No disrespect to the comprehensible input community as it's a very valuable tool for learning. But the reality is, I keep seeing people with 1000+ hours of CI who aren't good at all in their speaking abilities. If they would have dedicated even as little as 20-30% of that time to speaking, their levels would be exponentially higher. Speaking requires thought, and people don't want to put in that effort. Not saying that about you in particular.
¡Échale ganas, mijo! You're doing awesome :) Deberías venir a México tmb 🇲🇽
aha yeah thanks guys! getting there slowly for sure. just gotta stick with it now :) Thanks for the support.
Your doing great!! Enjoy your trip
Thanks very much for the support 😀
You need to get yourself a Spanish-speaking gf, mate. That'll sort it in no time ;)
While travelling is great, I dont think it’s as great for learning languages as people say. Unless you make friends and develop relationships, most of the interactions you have are brief, speaking in restaurants, taxis etc. Doing a few hours a week online talking non stop is always gonna be a better way to practice your speaking.
Yeah I for sure get where you are coming from. I would say it is productive online conversations one on one, but yeah I personally think it would be something I would find long term.
I’ve had the same issues with trying to talk to people online. It’s hard to connect and feel motivated to keep going, but I’m glad to know it’s not just me. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the support and yeah I think it is porbably a common issue.
You haven't ran across a REAL teacher.
Well, I have done plenty of different type of lessons/classes/conversations online using different platform to learn Spanish and another language. I prefer the one on one approach such as in Italki, but it's a struggle to really find those tutors that suit your characters, meet your needs and can connect well with you personally (a deeper level). I did find a couple with whom I regularly take class once a week and I really enjoy it. But I also have some other online weekly group events that allow me to connect with other Spanish students from different parts of the worlds which sometimes can be problematic if there's someone who wants to dominate the conversation or complaints a lot / so demanding). Every person has their own learning method that might not work well for other person and that's totally fine. Just keep doing what you think the best for you - but don't be tempted to keep switching back to english though. Good luck with your trip!
Yeah thanks so much for the advice. I certainly understand that some people love connecting with others online however just for me has been a struggle. I am sure once I start tarvelling this is where I will really start to improve.
Please do the videos of you speaking Spanish before and after your trip! That would be so interesting.
aha yeah I will certainly try and do one. I think it will be good to look back on in some time once I come back.
When you think about it. It's the same way when infants start speaking. It's difficult for them at first but they soon progress. It says on DS that one is more likely to give output like an infant at the start. Give chatgpt a try Luke. It's not the same as a real person but with chatgpt you can take your time to respond or ask questions in a conversation. You'll feel less pressured and on the spot than you might be in a live conversation with a person. A few of the DS on the reddit have tried it and said it's actually quite good.
Thanks for the advice. I have tried chat gpt in the past and it was okay, but yeah I think the same issue occurred that it just got a bit boring after a bit. Nevertheless I may try it again and see how I go. If not I will just wait till I go away aha.
@@Lukelearnsspanish Which one did you try Luke? There are a few. The guys I saw talking about one was Langua AI language tutor. I haven't tried this one yet but tried another. I only did it a couple of times and just suggested to it to ask certain questions, not conversation really. Nothing beats speaking to a real person but I'm sure some progress can be made with Chatgpt.
@@Vamos1969for me AI is useful for corrections.
@@theymademepickaname1248 Yes, you right. I've used it before for corrections. If say I had a phrase pop into to my head that I was curious about, I'd write it in chatgpt. It would give me the correction. I haven't used it much for speaking corrections but with the right prompt it could be useful.
@@Vamos1969 I've been paying for an app called talkpal. It seems to have pretty good speech recognition. The conversations are boring as hell, but it has been helping me fine tune grammar and pronunciation.
I don't think you sound negative. In fact, I really respect your honesty. A lot of TH-camrs like to only put out really polished, click-baity videos about their language learning journey and it gives people unrealistic expectations which only leads them to feel bad if they aren't magically completely fluent after x number of hours or months. And in fact, the more I learn about languages, the more I realise how nebulous the concept of fluency really is. I hope you have an incredible trip to Argentina and that you find those connections you've been lacking. It would be amazing if you came back with a really strong Argentinian accent 😆
Thanks for all the support. I very much try keep it as real and honest, that was always my goal when I created this channel.
