    Nice. I’m nearing 1200 but have been focused on speaking because I hope to travel soon. Hit 12 hours today and it’s crazy how much improves from hour one to ten in speaking. Today I’ve done classes three days in a row and plan to talk everyday with someone from ow until August because as a teacher this is my best chance to make a big jump! Love hearing from other DSers also. Thanks for sharing your journey.

      How did it go for you speaking everyday during the summer? Did you make the big jump you expected?

      @@theflypilot I think it helped me not feel as scared, but I actually noticed I improved more when I had an in person conversation over online. I'm hoping now that I just hit 1500 hours I can find more in person opportunities to build speaking confidence because otherwise I feel very comfortable with listening and reading. Part of my problem is being a recovering perfectionist and those tendencies to fear mistakes still hold me back, but I hope more in person talking will eventually calm that. For now I use Spanish as needed at work and it has been fine. But my work is so busy I don't have much time for in person stuff right now.

    This is a real service to others just getting started with CI. I'm very new to it, and since I began I've carried a lot of doubt that this will work. Your videos are inspiring and build my confidence in the method. I'm also working with Dreaming Spanish and one other similar program and excited about the progress.
    Seeing so many posts from other sources about acquiring a second language in 30-90 days really added to my doubts. But seeing your review of your own progress after 1500 hours-ish now feels very realistic, and is in line with what Pablo's roadmap illustrates.
    If I recall from another video, you started with CI in early 2023 with fantastic results! This is super encouraging and adds to my motivation to keep pushing. Another point you raised if I understand this correctly is moving your devices to Spanish too early is counter productive. At 150 hours, that would completely frustrate me!
    These are outstanding videos, as well as your interviews. Bravo for your efforts in making this available for those of us headed down this path. And all the best with your English conversational classes!

    I noticed a lot of these comments are from people who have not been learning for that long. I am completly fluent in Spanish, I´ve been learning Spanish for 10+ years and have over 10k hours of practice and I passed the C2 exam years ago. Basically a lot of these different programs are trash. They are not the worst thing in the world if you are a completly beginner but look to transition to this. The most important thing you can do is have massive input + curiosity. Look up every word you encounter that you do not know and after you suffer/struggle a bit at the beginning, you´ll have a massive vocabulary and if you can´t remember a word, it probably wasn´t that important in the first place. Same goes for reading when you choose that path, it is like a new language though once you open up that book so buckle up. So that is for listening and reading but what about speaking and writing? Well I find the best way to level up your speaking is having a good enviroment, Spanish at least in my case, changed my life. After I started learning, I have only dated Spanish Speakers and now my girlfriend only speaks to me in Spanish. However, the idea is the same. Make friends/get a gf who only speak the language and force you to speak it wether you are having a good day or not. That real immersion which can be done in a spanish speaking country or not is where you are going to level up. Ask them questions when you do not understand and mimic things you like. As for writing, that comes naturally, Spanish is a phonetic language so everything is written how it sounds, learn the accents at the beginning and you should be fine. For any beginners, learn to pronounce your vowels first, they are the most important part of pronouncing words correctly in Spanish and it´s not that hard. Dont pronounce like a gringo. This is best to fix at the beginning so you dont engrain bad habits and mistakes. As for the grammar, like babies you must asimilate it through massive listening input and accomodate it through speech. I went through an advanced grammar book a couple times in my second year/third year of learning that was written in spanish for native spanish speakers (a book for school kids). By that point, I had already heard all of the structures before through listening and understood them but didnt quite know how to use them. After that book, I was well on my way to making few mistakes. The problem with doing all your grammar at the beginning is that your brain doesn´t know what it doesnt know. It couldn´t even come up with an answer that could possibly be correct because you hadn´t been exposed to the stimuli yet. You have to build the base of the foundation first, the words. The grammar is not the base because it is what is use to put the words into context. Watch Netflix with subtitles both audio and subtitles in Spanish to learn, look up the words you do not know, get a friend, gf or bf that speaks Spanish and will be a part of your everyday life and enjoy the ride. Anyway, I hope at least one person got some value from this message.

      @@GunAddictAllDay I found this helpful! I am still going to stick to dreaming Spanish though. It seems to be the best way for me to get input at my early level. My wife speaks Spanish so I am hoping to have her use Spanish with me once I am a few hundred hours in.

    I use Pimsleur in the car which really helped my more complex sentence structures and pronunciation. Especially in the later levels 3-5. Ive already done all 5 levels a couple of times and now its just good speaking practice for me when im not speaking with native speakers.

    How long did it take you to stop trying to translate the input your'e consuming? I find myself constantly translating in my head.

      @Lukelearnsspanish  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Mmmm tbh with myself I never really had that issue of translating in my head whilst watching content. However I think the best way to avoid this just to be to not try so hard to understand the content and try to relax. Regardless it’ll go away over time.

      I had a problem with translating as well. Probably because I live in Denver, Colorado, which has a large Spanish speaking population. But, I would say that Luke is absolutely correct... it will go away once you acquire enough of the language. By the way, I was acquiring so much without realizing it. My problem was hearing words and phrases that I was already familiar with. It would switch on the conscience part of my brain. My experience was that around 800 hours of input, I was able to just sit back and enjoy whatever I was listening to.
