Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64) Reproduction Cart Teardown
มุมมอง 22K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Wow a non-xbox video! I got this chinese repro cart in the mail and decided to make a quick, script-less video on what it looks like, inside and out. I figure some people might be interested in the build quality and look of these repros. Now, if there is demand for a cheap reproduction of a rare cartridge, I'm all for it. Unfortunately, there is a danger of mistakenly buying them for the price ...

มุมมอง 11K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is part 1 of my new series about the original xbox. I want this to be a good starting point for those who want to get into this system for repair purposes, or for modding. In this part, I explore some basic history behind the machine that helps explain why its designed the way it is and how the console is currently remembered.

Ebay Repairs- Original Xbox Trace Repair
มุมมอง 12K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Link to the thread that saved my ass: www.theisozone.com/tutorials/xbox/hardware-and-modding/trace-corrosion-repair/ In this video I diagnose an Xbox with strange power issues. After I find out about some bad traces, I show how to jump the points with wrapping wire. Its by far the most time consuming and difficult repair I've ever done.
Ebay Repairs- Majora's Mask N64 Game Cleaning
มุมมอง 1.3K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Your N64 games are not dead! Picked up this non-working n64 game from ebay. Thought it needed a good cleaning and thats what it ended up needing. That's usually the case when it comes to "broken" cartridges. I clean the cart (in an unconventional way) and end up saving another game from the scrap yard. Like this video if you learned something!
Original Xbox- 3rd Party Stick Replacement (Gaming Edge)
มุมมอง 4196 ปีที่แล้ว
Had an interesting problem when I wanted to replace the gross, messed up sticks on a 3rd party game controller, a Gaming Edge brand to be exact. It turns out the stick is shaped slightly differently than the Controller S/360 variant so I needed to get creative with some glue. Let me know in the comments what you would have done!
Replacing the thermal paste in the Original Xbox

Ebay Repairs- How to repair a stuck DVD drive on the Original Xbox
มุมมอง 34K7 ปีที่แล้ว
I saw this Xbox on ebay that was being sold for parts due to a malfunctioning disk drive. I take you through some troubleshooting steps and then show you what I did to repair it. These methods are are very likely to work for you if your DVD drive is jammed or is giving you an error message.
I just did this on mine a couple of weeks ago. What's interesting is the bigger heatsink came right off without warming anything up. The smaller one was stuck. I used a heatgun for maybe 10 seconds and it popped right up. I didn't want to plug the console in and turn it on because it hasn't been used or played in 10+ years. I do have a question though....what kind of thermal paste was originally on yours...mine was exactly the same as yours, this black ridiculous stuff that was almost like silicon? I've seen other X-box's with clearly normal grey colored thermal paste. I used Arctic Silver 5.
Bro my Xbox flashes green consistently, the tray can open and close no problem but the green light won’t stop flashing . My Xbox works perfectly fine I was playing a game stuck inside and I used a paper clip to open it . Ever since I did that I haven’t been playing it and the green light doesn’t stop flashing ! I need your help bro you’re a genius!!!
Good video, however I noticed when testing for continuity of the first trace, you had the second connection in the wrong place
Where is us part4? All thr other videos stkll stop short.
Very good.
Can i replace 6.3v 3300 uf capacitors with 16v 3300 uf replacement? @retro_vg_repairs3339
Mine boots and shows error 9, but also randomly turns off and power is on constantly with lead in, I removed the clock cap as it had leaked, but error 9 still there and shuts off by itself think it’s all a bad trace? Or hard drive failure too?
13:10 I don’t think my n64 had this part or I may have misplaced it during the disassembly process is it important ?
Even in 2024 and with the revival of the original xbox life (insignia) and cerbios these videos are gold 😊 for receiving the og Xbox
"Obamacare" was a republican't program. Do your homework. But thank you for the vid.
I have a broken port 1. Why doesn't anyone make a replacement? Only way to get one is to pull it off another console. Nobody even makes a 3D print of it.
Clock caps leak in 1.6. I have many of them with leaked clock cap, removed them and bypassed by wiring positive leg to 3.3v. Check: consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:Clock_Capacitor
great video, i learned alot. i just picked up a xbox from craiglist. first xbox ever ( i was a playstation kid). i plan on modchipping it. thanks
Never seen such a weird looking heat sink
Just did a deep clean on a N64 and this couldn’t have been a better video. Thank you so much!
5:20 i did the pot tweak on my xbox 360 probably like 5 years ago now due to the dirty disc error, its a 2009 year Jasper model 360 and the disc drive is a philips / lite-on DG 16D2S. I dont remember the resistance values that i set on the potentiometer, but i still have this console today and use it all the time (its RGH modded) and the drive is still doing great, even reads some lightly scratched discs that other xbox drives struggle with. makes me curious what resistance i set, kinda want to take it apart and check.
I also want to point out that the metal plate that goes on top with the ten short screws does not need to be in place before you screw in the first plate with the 5 screws. And frankly speaking you'd have to be kind of dense to misalign said plate.
The lid for the jumper pak is the perfect fit for that little prying slot on the back of the jumper and expansion paks
This is full of misinformation. OG Xbox does not use a "paste from hell", it has a quality PCM from the factory (either pink on earlier revision units or black on later revisions) which has completely different properties from paste. It lasts the lifetime of the console and does not need to be changed to thermal paste at all.
Yeah just got one secondhand. Its already been opened and soft modded. The temps look absolutely fine. I don't think I'm gonna bother with swapping it, it just looks messy. Glad I looked at these videos before going for it
Can i use rubbing alcohol?
Would you be able to help me i get a setpallet error number-2147467259 failed direct x error for windows 11
great tutorial
It's a shame they couldn't include solid-state memory for the saves, but at least the battery holder means you can swap the battery out without losing your saves by hooking up another 3 volts in parallel. Alligator clips holding magnets on one end should work nicely.
Thanks Bro!
My Nintendo 64 doesent start anymore after i clean it (no red Light, nothing) i dont know why :(
Does it work?
Thanks for this upload. Is the best on youtube imo. Glad you did the reassembly too
Can you take the ports off??
Controller ports I mean
At the filming of this video, multicarts were very much in their infancy (ie Everdrive) but today there just isn't a good reason to buy a Repro with all the option out there. Buy a single cart (and maybe a cheap sd card) and you have no recurrent costs and the entire N64 library (including imports and many hacks) can be played on it. Even at the $20 price point the cost of Repros adds up fast. Only takes about 3-4 Repros/Hacks to exceed the cost of a Super 64 or ED64. For the cost of 10-11 Repros/Hacks you can even afford an Everdrive X7. Add in the consistently inconsistent quality control standards and the trouble prone areas (ie on board memory failure, bad rom flash) and the Repros are arguably the worst option for the money at this point. Keep in mind I am saying this as someone who owns a handful of them.
Are the cartridge tray screws the same as the small ones in the middle of the system? I need screws for my cartridge tray, but have no idea what size I need.
Thermal Paste from Hell is so accurate this shit is like Chewed Gum crossed with Road Tar
Excellent video, very well explained my friend. Your instructions have allowed me to remove 25 years’ worth of dust and crud from my console. My 64 went dead in 2014 and it’s only in hindsight I worked out it was likely due to the power supply no longer working and not the console itself. All the same, it needed this thorough clean. A couple of small parts I lost were casualties but main thing is we now have our 64 working once again. If anyone else finds no power or picture on their 64, i would suggest ordering a new power supply first. Greetings from Scotland.
If you ever Comeback could you do video on replacing the disk drive with lg drive gdr-8163b
thanks for sharing your knowledge... You are very right, there are thousands of videos... but they are garbage or incomplete... I appreciate you taking the time to detail the themes of our beloved original Xbox.
i wouldnt recommend washing the case in the dishwasher. high heat of the dishwasher can warp plastic. i think scrubbing with warm soapy water would probably work fine
Hi bud, im looking to try and find a way of uploading the music stored on my xbox(unmodified), would appreciate any help kr steve 😎
Thank you pro
Epic video! Thank you!
good tutorial
One thing to note, not all 1.0 xbox's have thompson drives. I currently have 2 1.0 Xbox's, and they both have samsung disc drives (specifically the samsung B drive, where as later models most likely have the samsung A drive if they have a samsung drive. samsung a drives are better for your discs health from what I know). I've also read that 1.6 xbox's only come with segate drives, but I've also found that to not be the case sometimes, as all 3 of my 1.6 xbox's have WB drives. I think the info about which disc and hard drives are in which models are mostly true, but can somewhat vary from the norm.
Nice how to! My reset button is stuck, i ordered the security bit and will take the console apart this week!
Daaamn at 1:30 you start to bend the hell out of those gpu heatsink fins.
Awsome video!
How do you put the tray back again
Been coming back to this video every few years, thanks!!
Thank you Retro_VG for the videos on TH-cam you made. They are very good and informative. I noticed you haven't made any for 5 years, and I hope you are doing well and would like to see you make a comeback someday with new content. Take care.
I have trace corrosion near the 3rd capacitor 3300um 6.3v on the underside of the edge of the motherboard, all 5 traces are damaged, do I follow the traces until they lead to their solder points. Can I solder from where the trace begins to where the trace ends.
This really helped me out! Thanks! 😀👍
Good info to have. I have a 1.6 with a hitachi drive
