This is my channel for Ebikes. Honest reviews of bikes and accessories.
Happy to be sent products by any company and make a video explaining what I think.
I am a complete noob to Ebikes. My knowledge of electrics is zero, my knowledge of motors is zero and my previous experience of modifying bikes is zero. What could possibly go wrong? lol

A summary of my standpoint:
From a Ebike I want comfort and ease of use. I don't particularly want to do extreme trails, but would like the ability to go reasonably off road. I do feel a lot happier with fat tires as I feel more secure an roads. In addition i'd like the motor to do as much of the work as possible, If I wanted exercise I would use a normal bike.
When it comes to parts I want function. If it works it works. I want things to last and not break too (within reason). I like value for money, so in my opinion a few saved grams for a much higher price, is not needed or value for money.

My Ebike disaster. The bike I am riding in this video is my Engwe Engine X. Unfortunately I wasn't planning to do TH-cam when I had the bike I talk about and had no gopro. So I didn't do a review or really test it tbh.

@chriswalden6519 it's my honest view and I don't think anything I said on it was unfair. I was actually excited to recipe the bike as i thought I'd bought an upgrade. Still disappointed with the bike tbh. 🙂
If you are going to make a TH-cam video, make sure that we can actually ear you. Volume extremely low and poor.
@michellebrown6824 for the record it's just the background noise channel u didn't lower enough. I do agree should be lower and usually is. 🙂
Torque isn't related to top speed,it means basically pulling ability,I'd it should be better on hills
@fastandyc my point is simply that when they claim it's more powerful, it shouldn't be slower then the original. And of course torque and speed are related as they require different gearing.
@noob-ebike-guy it's the same 350watt motor just geared to produce more torque
@fastandyc maybe/maybe not. That's a small fraction of my point. They've packaged the bike as a shiny new upgrade. I'm inclined to think it's not as simple as you suggest. Can't fully say cos I don't know. But if you are right then Engwe have done nothing clever at all. The bike as standard uses 2/3 the motor standard power. With the other 3rd on the boost button. Yet despite using less of the power more often and the torque sensor, the battery still only manages the sane 30 mile to s charge. Also if you are right then that would indicate the new cargo bike they just brought out, will do a max of 15mph unlocked as they state that is 250w and 100nm 🙂
@noob-ebike-guy they've given it more torque, slightly better capacity battery, torque sensor, can't remember what else
@fastandyc battery is same 13ah as standard L20. Not sure it's an improvement. More an alternative. 🙂
Should of got the vitilan 17pro, probably the best quality fat tire folding bike for the price
@LJ2K2025 I'm not really sure about your claim. I mean it's not actually a direct rival to rhe Engine X. As it is £250 more expensive. It's £300 more then the Ep2 pro. It seems it was a rival to the Engine pro but the Engine pro is £50 cheaper rrp. Although the I7 pro has a bigger ah battery. I'm not sure why you say the best quality as doesn't look like it's built any different. Like sane design really. So what is it that makes you feel its better quality? Personally new used one so don't know, but couldn't recommend the I7 pro for purchase as just like the Engine pro, the motors make them illegal to use on public land in the UK 🙂
@noob-ebike-guy they're all illegal really, most the "250" Watts are actually more and unrestricted go over 25 mph, and everybody unlocks the throttle even though its illegal, most placrs the police don't care, so if I'm gonna spend over a grand for a bike i want 1 that atleast has the capability of going over 30mph with pedal assist and something powerful enough to fly up hills, 250 Watts don't cut it and being slower on the road is more dangerous than faster, as for vitilan I7 pro I'd say its most comparable with the Engine pro, but it's just faster and better in my opinion
@LJ2K2025 sounds the same speed to me lol. I get what you're saying, but I'm not responsible for knowing anything. Like Engwe say my Engine X is 250w. Very unlikely it isn't but I can physically show it's legal and the police would have to prove Engine lied. But yours they can legally just take. The going faster argument doesn't apply because legally you're only allowed to do 15.5mph. So again if mine was unrestricted it wouldn't be road legal. I k ow mine will do 27mph unlocked. 🙂
@noob-ebike-guy I've seen many reviews and comparisons and the vitilan is more torque, good for hills especially compared to all others in the same class and price range, as for legality, the police aren't gonna stop you unless you're riding reckless, if you're wearing a helmet and pedal at normal speed when they're there, they shouldn't bother you and if they try stop you, the speed helps getting away 😂
@LJ2K2025 I just feel that it just take one officer in a bad mood on the wrong day and your £1000+ ebike is gone. Then there is points on licence and a fine. O don't like putting my trust in not bumping into that officer. I mean on all honesty I posted my rife along 3 video, about how I completely disagree with the ebike rules. Personally opinion wise we seem similar. I mean who are you hurting rideming at 30mph (if the road is a 30? If you are sober and in control then it's not really unsafe. Definitely agree 80nm torque is far more helpful. The 20ah battery too (rather then 16ah on the engine pro) 🙂
As an American I am the last person who should be commenting on UK laws. But I can say that even though our ebike laws are less restrictive, we still discuss many of the same issues. For example, even if my ebike could go faster, I can legally only throttle or pedal up to 28 miles per hour. Often when riding on the roads with cars, 28 is too slow as most of our road speed limits are higher than that. I'm afraid to ride on roads with only one lane in each direction as car drivers don't , or won't, slow down to safely pass.
@GregB-f1x that's how I feel at 15. Like I want cars to pass me as I know I must be bugging them. And I'm nervous when they stay behind me. Maybe all Ebikes should legally have to be registered to an owner. So a licence plate or something ((just to identify people who abuse the system). But keep the clarification the same. Not sure we should be allowed to go over 30mph on roads without a licence and test ect. But something needs to change. 🙂
Ehm Ehm Ehm Ehm Ehm Ehm Ehm Ehm ...
Engwe support is rubbish.. I had my front brake fail 2 weeks after I got it.. Emailed the support center.. No opology or offer to replace it.. Have upgraded both front and back brakes to hydrolic.. Which they told me wasn't possible.. Was also disappointed because I ordered a L20 with a 750w motor but was delivered 250w because of eu laws.. Apart from that I am happy with the bike have done nearly 2000 klms since July and unlocked the speed limit
@darrenguyatt6390 erm no I've put bigger discs on mine. From what I've seen alot use hydrolic calipers as a compromise. Engwe are incompetent af sometimes. Like it's clearly a lie as the engine pro has hydraulic brakes. Obviously it's electric so you would need levers that have the electrical wire roo and then they would need right connectors to plug into the controller. The good news is I'm not sure the 250w actually exists lol. I saw a comparison on here between a 750w ep2pro and a 250w engineX. Both bikes unlocked performed identically. The customer support can be a stressfull drawn out process though 🙂
For the money is it a good bike yup
@GarysE-BikeAdventures for £977 it is. But not for £1300. It's nowhere near £300 better then the standard L20. 🙂
Thanks again for your update I commented in your previous video that you saved me from an expensive mistake buying the L20 Boost I own the normal L20 and like you love that bike mine unlocked does a top speed of 25mph and it is quite good on hills (better than most I have had a few bikes to compare) So when the L20 boost came out I thought it was a no brainer like you it must be a L20 only better. The only pause for thought was the torque sensor I personally having a disability in my legs hate them. Was hoping that maybe Engwe would offer you a choice of cadence when ordering some manufacturers do. So I held back and the bike went out of stock. Then I saw your video and could not believe they deliberately crippled the bikes speed etc, and bought another L20 I use my bike all the time racking up over 700 miles in 8 weeks so with offers etc got the other one at a great price. The best Engwe bike I owed by far was the E26 it did 30 mph you could program each PAS level individually, it was a beast on hills too. The only thing was it was just too big for me and I stay in a multi storey and had to stand it up in the lift, not an easy task. (although I did get better with practice) If they could put the software and controller and the E26's display plus the boost button with cadence sensor on the L20 wow what a bike that would be
Hi Noob, I am a first time ebike owner, and as you said in your commentary, if the L20 Boost is your first ebike you'll love it, and I do! So I have nothing to compare it to, and any of the following comments are based on my own limited experience, and also research I made prior to receiving my bike (which like you, took a long time!). You are right that the top speed is lower that the L20. It uses the same motor as the L20 but has greater torque. This is possible because the gearing in the Boost's motor is lower; that's how it achieves a higher torque figure but at the cost of top speed. To get within the limits of European classification similar to a non powered bicycle, the motor has to have a nominal rating of 250W or under. But, it can peak higher. A nominal rating is the ability of an electric motor to safely operate for one hour without failing. Peak power is unlimited. If the same motor were to run at peak power for an hour it would probably fail. The gearing of the motor is the main difference between the L20 and the L20 Boost. The Boost button is a clever and effective way of raising peak power without breaking UK and EU law; that's an imaginative move by Engwe. I agree with you to an extent about the different mode powers. I can feel a lot of difference between power 1 and power 5, but not that much in between. However, the power differences are more noticeable when used in the lower gears which effectively are at lower speeds. Try riding on a moderate incline at a slow speed say in first, second or third gear in mode 1, then change to mode 2, 3, 4 etc and you will definitely feel the difference. I can't understand why Engwe told you the power modes offer no differences. I ride my bike either for fun or convenience. If I have a long journey of say a 25 to 30 mile round trip on mettled roads, I'll be as conservative as I can with the battery. Sticking with mode 0 or 1 greatly improves the efficiency of the battery. I know that sounds obvious, but it makes a big difference. Going down hill I'll coast in mode 0 or 1 if it's comfortable to do so. Using the boost button eats power, but is incredibly useful for safely negotiating dangerous junctions or accelerating passed slow moving or parked cars. The use of a light throttle (where this is allowed!) and pedalling at the same time is also very useful, feathering between the two can again save battery drain. Riding for fun on a forest trail for example is most rewarding. Liberal use of the power available makes for a great ride, so long as you're not too far from home or if you have a downhill return journey home. The difference between torque and cadence sensor designed ebikes is not something I've experienced; as I said earlier this is my first and only ebike. Have you ridden the L20 to come to the conclusions you mentioned? That's not a criticism, just a genuine question. To change the subject, I ordered some mirrors off Amazon that allowed me to see myself, but nothing of the view behind. Mounting the left one on the right, and the right on the left, below the handle bars gave a much better view, although the view is quite narrow. Yours look much better. Are they OK, and if so do you have a link? Initially I ordered a right hand one located in the end of the right handle bar, but I couldn't fit it as there is some metal within the tube of the bar making it not possible to insert. I like your hands on real world reviews, but suspect you may be expecting too much of the Boost due to the technical limitations of it's increased power. I think Engwe have made a good compromise of innovation over legislative restrictions. This ebike suits a more sedate ride where low down power restricts outright speed.
@rfbarry if you watch my previous video, my comparison is actually against the Engine X and Ep2 pro. Basically I feel that it's save to assume that all Engwe 20x4 fat tire 250w ebikes use the same motor. Also I there is a comparison out there showing a 750w ep2 pro vs a 250w engine X. The guy unrestricted both and sis the same test and they both perform identical. So I doubt the 250w motor is actually 250w lol. The thing with a cadence sensor is it's best when going up hill for arguments sake. The motor wants to get that 15.5mph always so it pushes you lots when it's hard. I will try the low gears tomorrow and see. And if still no difference Engwe are getting another Email as if yours has a difference in modes then mine should or is broken. As far as the torque/speed compromise, I don't buy it. At 20mph it doesn't feel like the bike is working anywhere near straining itself and I feel the Engine X can probably do more then the 27. Also the way Engwe advertise this bike is by saying its 50nm. So it's kinda the same. They say the other 25nm comes from the boost button. On flat ground it definitely under performs. The cadence sensor always wants to get the 15.5mph. So your pedaling puts you at 16/17mph with little effort. I find on the boost I'm under 15 alot. I towed my trailer on Friday and it felt alot more work then on my Engine X. My trailer was heavier then normal but maybe 10/20kg max more. But when I'm 90kg and normally pull the trailer. The bike combined weight is nowhere near a 30% increase so the bike shouldn't have an issue with the 30% extra torque. The wing mirrors I have your issue. I see my arms through them lol. I've ordered more that I hope will be good under the bars but will let you know. I bought £4 ones that go under and have those on too atm and that works 🙂
A 200,000w hub motors shall “nominally” run at 250w “maximum” should I choose it to. Hence the L20 48v uses the 750w hub motor from the Engine Pro 😉
@@Hrossey That may be beyond the laws of physics!
Thank you for this video. It is more rare than it should be for YT reviewers to be absolutely upfront and honest, as you are, about problems or concerns with ebikes. Also most of us don't get to ride multiple e bikes from the same manufacturer, and might not realize the trade offs with different, but similar, models. Your comparison of the L20 vs the L20 boost will guide me to consider all the trade offs even if I am considering models from different manufacturers.
@GregB-f1x thank you. That was my gaol from the start. I think all bikes should be reviewed from a customer stand point. Probably not helping my chance of companies sending me bikes to test but I'd rather be honest. 🙂
How do you find those rear view mirrors? Where did you end up mounting them, I noticed they moved from the horizontal centre bar onto the main bar?
@mr_wildgoose I'm not sure I'm happy with them tbh. My arms block a large bit of my view. I've bought some round cheap £4 ones that are under the handlebars and see alot more through those really. I live in a flat so bike leans on my wall. So don't want mirrors that extend beyond the handlebars. 2 pairs are working OK. But still himting for a pair I'm fully happy with 🙂
@noob-ebike-guy I've ordered two of the longer flexi mirrors to fit onto the centre cross bar. Hopefully they should just be long enough to see arourd my arms. I'll let you know how I get on with them!
@mr_wildgoose fingers crossed they are. It's a pain cos I hate messing with them. I just want ones o put on and don't have to adjust every time I use my bike lol 🙂
@@noob-ebike-guy Those mirrors on a stalk were terrible - don't bother!
@mr_wildgoose my new ones came today. Will fit and try them under bars tomorrow lol 🙂
After de-restricting my electric bike, the maximum speed reaches 40 km/h, but I can’t seem to limit it to an intermediate speed like 28 or 30 km/h. Is there a way to manually set the speed to a specific value, or does the bike automatically operate at full capacity once de-restricted?
@nounou_bh92 not sure about your bike but I believe it's all programed into the controller and that dictates the functions of the computer thing. The L20 boost it either restricted to the legal 15.5mph limit or the max 20mph. The motor is definitely able to do more, but that would require a new controller and lcd. I know on my Engine X there is a setting to change max speed. So could actually reduce the 27mph that does 🙂
Is it true there is a new version of this bike? So you can’t unlock it? And the throttle only people’s at 4mph? Did you get it from the actual engwe uk website?
@Cryptogames16 I bought mine end.of last year. I have a review in the engine X on here. Mine unlocks and does 27mph. Throttle can easily be turned on too 🙂
@@noob-ebike-guy 🙏 thanks a lot man
In America we are lucky enough to be allowed throttles and our upper speed limit is 28 mph in most, but not all, jurisdictions. But there are a number of bikes that exceed even these limits and it is common to hear of people being ticketed by the police. Like yours way too many of our bike shops are staffed by ebike haters who refuse to work on them.
@GregB-f1x I don't get it at all. I mean the fact is, I want a .manufactured ebike. I'm forced to buy Chinese and forced to choose from a smaller range due to ridiculous laws. I don't want to ride in an unsafe manner or put people at risk. I just want a strong reliable ebike that is going to get me where I need. Let's be real. Is there a person on the planet who can argue that any Engwe bike, is safer, better built, more useful, more dependable or anywhere near the range of say an Aniioki? Those things have awesome range, plenty of power to tackle hills. Dual motors, massive hydrolic brakes.they exceed Engwe in every way. Yes they cost more, but you get more. But ridiculously even if they programed a 15.5mph restriction, I couldn't legally use one on UK roads. For me there should only be a speed law on public land. Shouldn't matter how powerful the bike is, a Ferrari doing 15mph has no more impact then a ford doing 15mph. The laws seem to be there to punished responsible people for the actions or potential actions of the irresponsible. 🙂
I felt a sense of familiarity with the flat tire you got far from home as I had the same thing happen here in Colorado Springs. I solved the problem by having a tire insert call Tannus Armour installed in each wheel. It is positioned between the tire and the tube providing 15 mm of protection on the top of the tube and 2 mm protection to the sides. Riding on the same area that I had gotten previous flats, I have never had a flat since getting the tanus armour installed. Here in the US it costs me $60 each tire including bike shop install on 20x3 inch tires. (Could have saved a bit if I was able to install them myself... but I'm totally non do it yourself capable.) And I see on their website it runs from 35 to 60 pounds in the UK not including installation based on size of tire. I do not mean for this post to sound like I'm a shill for Tannus Armour. I'm just a super happy customer who hopes and expects to never get another flat.
I have an ADO Air s20 which is torque sensor and gear less system , it gets to 15.5 in under 3 seconds but i have to say, that speed it mind numbingly slow for me, and the bike does feel like it wants to go faster. my 20 inch 7 speed carreera folding bike gives me 25 on a normal day and i have overtaken 50cc mopeds on it, not bad for a 62 year old. i will be getting the throttle, which they send separately to get around stupid British laws. Then i will be able to derestrict the bike and get 25 out of it. This was a very honest review of a bike I was looking at and it turned me off getting the Engwe X , Im honestly very intrigued by your L20 so I will be looking in for your next review of it. Great to see Rhyl again, haven't been there for about 7 years. all my brothers live there and you have given me a hankering for a new visit.
Why did it put you off the Engine X? This was my L20 boost review. The Engine X is great, just the 50nm torque struggles with big hills. flat though or small hills its good. There is my Engine X review on here and the Ep2 pro. Basically same bike. Im hopefully going to get my next L20 boost review done over the next week :)
you got that the wrong way round, the cadence is what you want, I have one of each, the torque sensor has a far better range as it work out what you are doing and doubles it or what ever its set to, the cadence sensor just looks to see if you are pedaling and pushes you up to 15, if its on level 5 or whatever you have it on. Subconsouisly you can let it doo too much and reduce its range.
@dazid1 yeah I wrote that I got the sensors mixed up in the description lol. 🙂
I recognise some of your route as I live in North Wales too! I'm wondering now if I wait for the L20 Boost to come back on sale (forecast end of October), or buy the L20 in the green colour which I prefer? Engwe tell me when Boost come's back on sale, they will offer a 'Black' option! This will my first ever ebike which I'll use mainly to pop down the road and then up a 1/4mile farm track to visit my beehives. So after more riding time, do you think the L20 Boost is better than your Engine X which has similar running gear to the L20 - thoughts really appreciated as I'm confused!
@mr_wildgoose honestly? I don't know. Really still depends on price and how hilly where you live is? The Engine X has no issues at all with the H bridge in Rhyl or the road bridge that goes kimnel bay ti Towyn. It does struggle to get up the hill to the top part of Abergele castle though. And feels like it is straining the motor. That can't be great for it I'd guess. I need yo make a new video. After more riding I feel my L20 Boost is faulty. There is no difference in the 5 pedal assist modes, but there should be. So I don't technically know if it should be more powerful then mine without the boost. At a similar price I would still buy the boost instead of the standard L20 🙂
@@noob-ebike-guy I really would like to understand if the assistance level concern is a fault or a feature before I commit to buying a L20 Boost? Trawling on the internet and I've found you are not the only one who thinks the assistance level setting on the Boost is useless!!
Honestly that is an issue. Engwe customer support are based in China. Because of the time gap it is basically one reply a day. When I di make the new video I may name it pedal assist fault or something and ask viewers to comment how their bike is and if they have problems. As far as mine goes, I'm 95% confident that I will get the issue fixed, or I'll get a working replacement. However I'm not anticipating a quick resolution With the language barrier, sometimes it is hard to tell if they are answering politically or not quite understanding. Sometimes it's like they copy and paste from a manual. I so plan to make a video after I have a fully working boost and talk about how the process of getting it sorted went. But again I'd be shocked if that's soon. I can't really advise you if you should or shouldn't buy a boost or if its likely to be fully functional. If it's a batch flaw, the next ones will be a different batch as obviously not available atm. 🙂
@mr_wildgoose Engwe have said that the pedal assist should only be one setting. So they say my bike is how it is meant to be. I will still ask in groups if it actually is 🙂
I've also written to Engwe to ask if the concern you describe is a fault or a feature on the L20 Boost? If they come back and say they are all like that, then I'll buy the standard L20 instead!
Good to know, thanks ^^, When L20 BOOST unlocked : what is the maximum speed? Does it need a real effort to go over 20mph?
@OlivierPlateaux I was pedaling in the fastest gear, reasonably strongly. It didn't want to go much faster. Like you would have to put a big effort in to go quicker 🙂
Ive also got the l20 .20 , good bike for 799
@KennethWare-bn9vr I've got an L20 boost aswell now too 🙂
ive got the L20 SE engwe...great bike and it folds... you say you live in a flat..have you checked you can store your bike in your flat, some places have strict rules..
@shaunmk private landlord. No rules against keeping it here. Good job really as currently have the engine X, ep2 pro and L20 boost 🙂
This review is invaluable to anyone trying to make their mind up between L20, L20 boost or Engine X. You covered all the info people would want to know about and helped me understand what the 'boost' is all about - thank you! I thought it might have been a button to get away from a stand still in the absence of a throttle, but I see it works whenever you want it. I like that but I thought the whole idea was to make a sort of legal throttle? I'm the same as you with the sensors too. I suppose it all depends on why you bought an ebike in the first place, to do the work or to help you work. Good job!
@e-VRC they have tried to make a legal throttle on it. But it's not supper responsive and does like 2mph or something. So not very useful really. In honesty I took the boost button to be a boost when advertised. Help when the bike struggles. That extra 25nm it gives really helps on hills or just to get you to 15.5mph quicker. Really glad you liked my review. My goal is always to try and give a fair but balanced opinion 🙂
Just actually realised you do reviews too lol. Like I've seen your vids but just realised it was you. You're feedback is cool. Thank you for the support. :)
You have torque and cadence back to front. Torque means you have to put some effort, cadence just turn peddles and you get full power up to pas level your in .
@KennethWare-bn9vr yeah I know. Was told previously lol. So I added a bit in description to say they where mixed up. 🙂

Mate! I’m so glad I found your video. I’ve had my Boost for just over a week (first e-bike) and I was seriously concerned it had a fault. I emailed Engwe about it too. For me it felt like the assist after 2 added nothing. 3-5 just feel like 1-2. I tried deregulating the throttle but they didn’t seem to do a great deal. In the end, like you, I just got used to using boost - but this is surely draining battery and adds yet another process in to the ride which is just complicating. In hindsight I wish I’d gone for the L20 now myself. I am going to use this video to support my case with Engwe though. Maybe they’ll release a firmware update or something.
I fixed mine (puncture and new discs) but turned out my front tire had a thorn in too lol. So ordered a 2nd innertube that came today. Will fit that and then have another go and gie my opinion on the pedal assist levels :)
So I went out on mine again today and personally i cant tell any difference between any of the pedal assist modes. they all feel exactly the same to me. :)
@@noob-ebike-guyyeah, same. Engwe have said they’re going to send me a new controller, but I think it’s just the way the torque system works (I even think they added the boost to compensate). I also noticed on photos of the LCD panel it shows ‘eco, normal, sport’ - but there’s no obvious way to switch to these modes (if they exist).
@rokk spare parts are good but think it's how it's built so doubt it's worth swapping everything over 🙂
@@rokkThose modes are on the Fiido bikes, and by pressing continously on the mode button you get a rocket icon and then the bike flies... Literally.
Thank you for your review you have saved me from buying the L20 boost you have mixed up the sensors the L20 boost does not have a cadence sensor it has a torque sensor it senses how much effort you put into peddling and matches it that is why you are finding it more of an effort than your other bike that has a cadence sensor. It just detects the pedals are going round and give you max power. I am disabled and like you want my e-bike to do all the work I have spent a fortune on different e-bikes by different manufacturers and the best bike by far was the Engwe E26 but it was to big for me and I should have got the step through version but it had a cadence sensor and did 30 mph unlocked. So I bought the L20 to replace it like you I had the chance to go for the boost more torque boost button better display etc but the torque sensor put me off. So I just ordered the L20. When it came I was very happy it was just like the E26 except it’s top speed is 25 mph unlocked, I don’t know why Engwe chopped off 5mph from the E26 as it is basically the same motor (possibly because the smaller wheels). I was still thinking of buying the Boost to add to my collection thinking like you I could just keep pressing the boost button and it would help with the more challenging hilly routes me and a friend do. (That said the L20 copes pretty well even on the toughest hills) I was looking for reviews on the Boost to help me make a final decision there are not many because the bike is out off stock till the end of October, the fact it only does 20 mph is a deal breaker for me I already have trouble keeping up with my bike buddy on his E26. We live in Scotland and go touring all over the Highlands have three batteries each booking in to B&B’s to recharge we are off the beaten track so not bothering anyone at higher speeds (don’t see anyone for miles) and always reduce to 15mph in built up areas. We carry tools spare inner tubes puncture repair kits electric pump (its a task blowing up those fat tyres with a hand pump) I have had to take the back wheel of twice and repair a puncture and the front once in the middle of nowhere. (I have put Schwalbe puncture proof tyres on now that has cut out the punctures) As I say thanks for your review I will give it a miss.
@Maverick247 really glad I helped you. These bikes are alot of money and especially not satisfied with them. The L20 boost had so much potential and yet they chose to ruin it by restricting it 20mph. I do find the 25mph of the L20 odd too. My Engine X will get to 27mph with same size wheel and same power motor. I'd think that all the 250w Engwe bikes all have the sane motor. Maybe the sensor is different because of the display and that is why. Yeah another person in comments pointed out I'd mixed up the naming of the sensors lol. I did add a bit in description to correct my mistake. Sounds like you a d your friend have a great time exploring Scotland on your Ebikes 🙂
@@noob-ebike-guy I was thinking the E26 has a 20 amp controller the L20 is 18 amp I think that is the difference in speed why though I don’t know it uses the same 48v 16AH battery (I know the L20 comes with 13AH battery but they sell a 16AH version I have one) You can increase the output in the settings from 18 to a max of 26 (but I am sure it would go faster but burn out the controller) So after watching your video I just bought another L20 in a different colour I was thinking of buying another battery anyway and they are £300 I got the bike for £899 so a spare bike for £600 that I can rotate I have already nearly done 1000 miles in just over 2 months
@Maverick247 yeah. I mean at £900 you're basically paying £600 for the bike bits and £300 on the battery. For the sound of what you use it for, I personally would use my Engine X. That rear suspension makes a big difference. Although guessing you need the step through aspect. M20 dual battery I love the look of but annoying af they don't make a legal uk version. The L20 is far easier to switch over battery then the Engine X 5bf too 🙂

Hello. I’m trying to order to deliver to uk and it says it can’t deliver to my address?
@@everythingfelixstowevideo328 are you on the UK site? The EU one won't deliver. Although the UK site is currently showing no stock. Engwe support can probably tell you more 🙂
I don’t see why one would get the boost over the normal l20 for that “boost” button because simply unlocking the speed limit and throttle on the normal l20 will do the same thing and for cheaper. Plus the boost only comes in one color.. With that said, if you unlock the l20 boost it should have a bit of an edge when going uphill but honestly I think it’s a bit bs, this thing was only made to be “legal” towards EU regulations.. they market it as such, of having this boost legal on city road and locked at 25km/h. Now if you unlock the l20 with its motor that’s actually not a real 250w you get the same acceleration. It definitely needs a review and comparison of both models fully unlocked but I think I have well understood the deal, that’s it’s simply to propose something with more acceleration while still being legal. I think I’m gonna go for the l20, Ive spent 3-4 days searching for the best compact city bike and at the cheapest price, I think this is the one. I don’t care going 40km/h, 30km/h on the city road is all one needs, going faster than that becomes very dangerous with all the traffic and unpredictability
To be honest, If you look at the l20, Engine X, Ep2 pro, Engine pro specs, They all state 50nm of torque (ish) The Engine pro 2 states 75nm. Also they all state 10 degree hill climb. But the boost says 17.8 degrees (with boost). So I do think they replaced the motor to probably the Engine pro 2.0 new motor and then programmed it to limit it. I'd guess top end speed wont change (unlocked), Just a bit faster acceleration and more pulling power up hills. Then there is the torque sensor, so the motor should activate sooner and easier. I've never had the L20 and not anywhere near a big enough channel to get sent bikes to test lol. But I have the Engine X. That is basically the same motor and sensor as the original L20. So when I review my L20 boost, I will compare it to my Engine X :)
Once you ride a bike with a torque sensor, you’ll never go back. Much better.
Thanks for your review. I appreciate. I bought one. It'll be delivered soon.

@@MetalthinkerYT Thank you for your request. I will make sure I add that info in the review :)
I'd say whether you pay the extra for the Boost model depends almost entirely on your preference for torque sensing over cadence sensing. The boost button itself looks a bit gimmicky to me; you can always drop down a couple of gears and pedal harder! I'm sure both versions of the L20 are equally good in actual use. The Boost has only the one colour option, but it's a very nice colour! 😊
The boost button sounds very useful to me. Adds 25nm of torque. So can do steeper hills. Should accelerate faster with more nm too. Have to admit the one colour option wasn't great but luckily I like the green lol. Once it comes I'll do a full review and test it. I don't have an L20 but it should function like the Engine X as same power. So will compare the L20 boost to my Engine X :)
I have an E26 and they emailed me saying that they had found 5 in a thousand batteries were defective and that mine was one of them. I disposed of the battery as directed and received a new battery 5 days later, great service.
Wow that is really good tbh. 5 days is quick and that's a great fix from Engwe. Nice to hear good feedback about them :)
While not exactly the same I have had similar problems with my E-Bike it's been off the road so to speak for about 6 months now due to an issue with the rear wheel with the easiest and most affordable option being replacing it with a new one. Being a somewhat older bike the motor is actually in the front wheel which isn't very common these days. Although the company I bought the bike from are UK based they not longer operate phones lines and can take months to reply to emails. Just when I was giving up hope and thought I would need to buy a new bike they finally replied telling me they could sell me a new wheel but since they don't operate a phone line I would need to email them my phone number so they could ring me and have me pay over the phone. I sent them the info and now a week later they still haven't replied so I'm sort of back to square one with no idea when or if they will get back to me. I had the same problem getting hold of them before and the annoying irony is I decided to buy a bike from a UK based company thinking if the bike developed any issues it would be easier to get it sorted than if I had one deliver from outside the country but that has not turned out to be the case. I was very tempted to get the either the Engwe L20 or E26 as a replacement due to there very reasonable prices at the moment but I was put off by how incredibly heavy they are. My current bike despite being very budget (it was £595 if you can believe it now discontinued) but it only weighs about 16kg vs about 36kg for the L20 and 33.5kg (step-thru) for the E26 according to the info on Engwe's website. After all your troubles I really hope your happy with your current bike and that you don't encounter any problems with it down the line. No need to reply to my comment if you don't want to as I know it's on the long side.

Good video , I had very similar issue , my charger also had a fault and wouldn't charge , same issue I was told they was away at dragon boat festival and it would take a week or so , very annoying I was fortunate to find a equal charger on Amazon for 24 quid so at least I could charge the bike and use it, they eventually sent a replacement charger which I prefer to use but at least I got a backup charger too,, I love the bike and it's so easy yo change the speed restrictor and motorbike mode for off public roads and change the power max from 5 up to 9 😂
What do you mean the power max upto 9? Do you mean the pedal assist modes? I think 5 is plenty (even with restriction removed). or is yours a different bike? for speed mine is restricted to 26kmph but the menu lets it to upto 60kmph. But bikes top speed seems around 44kmph/27mph :)

You can actually swap the push assist (3.6mph) to the throttle rather than holding down the minus button. I did this by accident whilst trying to have it so that it's max power on throttle regardless of what pas I was using. I have an engine x and I've done so many mods to it it's probably worth double now. I wouldn't worry about the police as long as you're not riding like an idiot they've got more pressing issues like arresting right wingers lol😂
@simonjohnhinton1938 not sure if it was possible on the x20 that lcd is on alot of bikes but apparently it's how the controller is pre programed that dictates the settings that work and don't. I did find a video a while back with that settings and turned it on. I thought it would work like the one on the Eskuta (instant for setting off). But the delay is to long to be useful settings off and I think (not 100% sure) that it interfered with pedal assist while holding the throttle. I didn't like having it on and swapped it back after my 1st journey 🙂
Only 30 miles range? So it wouldn’t be good for delivery
I can't really say yes or no to this tbh. I mean a lot of delivery places seem to use those mopped looking ones (the Eskuta sx250). I've not had or used one but they only have 20 mile range (according to reviewers). Maybe a 2nd battery? Or think the Eskuta ones charge the bike between deliveries. Spare batteries can be bought, I'd guess the 16ah batteries would do about 37 miles.
