Hey, We're Di and Sam, two adventurous travellers (plus two dogs and a cat!) who love sharing their sustainable bus life journey on TH-cam. Before hitting the road, we spent three years homesteading-raising chickens, sheep, geese, bees, and several gardens-while regenerating the land we rented. Our passion for growing food and living sustainably now carries over into bus life, as we explore the world, connect with cultures, and learn along the way."

We have officially finished self converting our bus into a stunning tiny home and are now settling into our new normal as bus lifers on the road.
Join us twice a week as we showcase beautiful homesteads around Australia, practice living sustainably in our off-grid bus home and explore the stunning natural beauty of our states and territories.
This week we try our best to get the bus to a working state enough to get us back home to the Bega Valley. Through the drama we reflect on our favourite parts of the trip and start dreaming once more of being settled in a place we feel so rooted in.
We also share a few clips and moments from our first few days on our friend's stunning homestead.

IS IT EASY?? Our Off Grid Solar Power System Overview 6 Month Review
Hi Di and Sam. I’m so sorry you guys had to go throw this experience. It sure helps if you know there are people to help if all goes wrong. Both Grampians and murry is beautiful. I can see why both would be your favourite. But I think every place has a special memory if we want to be serious as each provides memories. Even when a memory is a breakdown you still find the good in it. The brown mountain ranges reminded me of the Dandenongs in vic. Your friends look to have a really beautiful property. Good to see you straight back into the garden. They are nice jackets. Looking forward to nexts weeks video guys. Glad you’re all home safe.
Thanks Rose, it's just part of it hey, can't expect to drive an old, heavy vehicle around on dirt roads with no issues! That's it every memory has been wonderful and savoured ☺️ They do!! I feel that every time I drive through, less to see on the route as far as I'm aware haha. Take care lovely
I’ve just stumbled upon your channel in the last day or so. What a great find! 🤗 Looking forward to watching some of your older homesteading content and also seeing your new adventures in the Bega Valley!🪴🕊️
So glad you found us! We've been having a blast documenting our homestead adventures, you're in for a treat! 😊 And I am just as excited as you for the next chapter here! Xxx
Oh, I was on tender hooks hoping for a safe, problem free end to 'this part' of your journey. An exciting adventure. Glad you made it safely. LOTS of rain down here on the homestead, approaching 80mm in the last 48 hours. Will be great for the hay harvest.... (??). Much love, Susan.
We made it and that's the main thing! Hahaha sorry we had you feeling so nervous! Glad we're in place now and getting our hands in the dirt once more, but can't wait for another adventure soon! Oh my that is a LOT of rain! I hope the soil has plenty of time to drink it up and your tanks are filled for Summer 🌞❤️
What an epic adventure you have had, and will continue to have. Well done you two 👏 Welcome home. Look forward to seeing your friends property, and what you guys get up to 😊
Thanks Shell 🩵 it was a lot of fun, we are in awe at how quickly the time went! Glad to be home for a little while before we explore the next state!
Oh wow didn’t realise you came down the Brown! Well done - that’s hard enough in a car with all the work happening! I’m so happy to see the valley in the vids again. 💜 The enclosed gardens look awesome on that homestead. Looking forward to seeing more about their life and property.
You're absolutely right, that homestead is amazing! We're so glad to be back in the valley too ❤️☺️ you haven't seen the best part yet!! Haha yeh the brown was the safest way with the most highways, and luckily all down hill but it certainly was a work out!
So glad you and the bus made it safely home. The Bega Valley is not too shabby a place to rest up especially with summer here and some gorgeous South Coast Beaches just down the road. I'm jealous as I used to live just north of there and now here in Qld not looking forward to the humidity. Take Care.
It is such a beautiful spot, we are so lucky to be here! We have had so much mix of weather already and been keeping very busy. Hoping the new year comes with some extra rest! Stay cool my friend 😰🩵
Welcome home and great job driving down the Brown, I was anxious for you both lol
That makes 3 of us!! But luckily we made it, hoping for a smoother ride the next time we run the bus, but for now she rests
Hi ya Di and Sam good luck with the bus hope it is a minor problem , no more hospital appointments until next year, take care and stay safe cheers from Qld 🚎❤️
Us too Barry! ❤️😞 So glad to hear, that's wonderful news 💪 sending you strength Looking forward to sharing some more homesteading content
Hi Ya Di and Sam just watching now , not a cat person but always found it nice to have the dogs while travelling a bit hard sometimes but you get used to it🤩. Had hospital appointments last week ok , enjoy the journey. Take care and stay safe cheers from Qld 🚎🦮❤
That's it, if it's your life you don't know any different! 😸🐕🐕 Take care my friend ❤️🩵
So many things to consider. Loved this insight into dealing with pets. You have both worked really hard to help them adjust and love their new bus life. We have 2 cats and 2 dogs in our tiny home and it takes a lot of energy and organisation to sort out all the issues that come up. Every day I sweep up a whole extra animal in hair from the floor. We have pots of cat grass growing inside for the cats or bring bunches of grass inside. Our dog can get on the bench if we leave anything at the front and loves to eat the cat poo so we put a door with a latch on the bathroom leaving about 20cm for cats to pass through to their toilets but dogs can’t get in. We made the cats their own cabins by cutting a hole in the front of some cardboard boxes and putting blankets inside. Cat poo does have different pathogens. We put it with our humanure - my understanding is that it would need about 2 years breaking down the pathogens and shouldn’t be put near food plants - same as humanure. We are still looking for solid answers on this though so let me know what you find out.
I think I'm going to need to get Freyja some cat grass! Is it hard to keep alive? Dogs are opportunists for sure hahaha! 🤣 No matter how much of a good boy they are, if they get one whiff of something 'good' try and stop them! 🩵🤣 I know Robyn puts her cat poj through a worm farm and then on natives so I wonder if that helps to speed up the process at all Take care 💕
Cat grass is really easy to look after and lasts for ages (months) especially if you put in a pot a bit bigger than the grass clump and just keep it watered. Grows well in any light. Of course! Worm farm would be a good idea - we have so many in our humanure anyway and sometimes end up infested with soldier fly larvae in our manure bins which I understand is similar to worms processing I think? I’ll check out Robyn’s take on it - I think she has a video on composting.
I think plumbers, sparkies, brickies, concreters and roofing guys all deserve a big pat on the back
I completely agree, invaluable skills that make our homes more functional and liveable, plus also means we can focus our energy learning other skills that aren't as burdensome hahaha
@@DiandSam😅100%
❤thanks
my pleasure lovely
Hey, I stumbled upon you guys when I was looking for solutions to rust. I just bought a bus, similar but a little older and have leaks and rust in the windows like you had. I’m loving seeing other Aussie’s doing this, so relatable. I’m also into living the permaculture/homestead life and will be building my bus with as much recycled, second hand and repurposed materials as possible. Thanks for sharing and being so inspiring!
Thank you so much! So glad you did :) Can't wait to hear about your journey and if there are any tips we can share along the way just ask! It is so worth it and I think suits the lifestyle perfectly if I say so myself, all the best with your build lovely!
Well done guys, such a great take on how you make things work. Cat grass might be good for Freya, and putting the dogs bowls away will help with food guarding. I had to laugh at 14:27, Freya is like "I've got this feeling, somebody's watching me " 😂 You've created a great home on wheels for your fur babies.
Thank you lovely I will definitely take those tips on board!! Anything to make things even smoother here xxx Thank you for the lovely suggestion it was fun to share this side of our life! Mess and all haha
I think you guys did an awesome job 👏 You definitely should be proud of yourselves 😊
Thank you gorgeous <3
I would love you Worcestershire sauce recipe
😂😂 Yep, been there!
Wait. Are you really traveling around Australia with pets? Aren't there spiders the size of small kids that will eat them? Not to mention all the other poisonous creatures you have there 😳 I would have visited the country years ago, but I am too afraid of freakishly big creepy crawlies
Hahaha don't let it stop you from visiting, they are really not that big and not present everywhere!! Maybe stick to the city areas rather than rural and you'll be fine 🤣🤣🤣 luckily none of them have been eaten yet!
Sorry, but have you ever driven in a car with the safety belt wrapped round your neck? Can you imagine what would happen in a crash? Please, in the interest of your dogs, get two harnesses.
Maybe you can grow some grass in a pot to keep in the bus, and some catnip. Some people use a cat harness with a long leash so their cats can safely roam a bit outdoors.
Great ideas!! Why fight it when we can work with her ❤️😸
try to live in a box from a fridge. With insects😂
Hi Di and Sam. She’s so cute. I do miss a purring cat about and you know I love your dogs. I love the show be your manners Di. It makes sense scratching her ramp. I wouldn’t leave food down. Where it’s accessible. It sounds like his resource grading. I’d only put food out when you’re there. Feeding them at the same time always. Cat nip grass for the cat might help in her own planter. I loved this video. I’ve not seen it done before. It was an interesting take and very helpful to those who plan to follow in your steps.
Thanks for the tip and heads up Rose! I'll certainly be more vigilant about moving food away from the space, yes they do eat at the same time. But Eris hoofs his down while to takes at least 10 minutes hahaha, I think Eris thinks he's getting more than him 🤣🤣
@ look into a slow feeder for Erie. Their not that expensive but I do find they are cheaper on line. This is not uncommon at all with dogs.
oh! no I can smell it from here. I must have finally got smellavission. 😤😤😤
Mistibushi had a fridge with 3 compartments which you could designate 2 as a freezer with a smaller fridge. Not sure if it's still manufactured though.
That would've been awesome!!!! I'll have to check if any come up second hand
100% agree with you!! I think a man invented the fridge to keep his beverages cold 😂 A woman would have been practical and designed the bigger freezer space 😁
Hahaha you are absolutely right!! 🤣 🤣 Or maybe she let him have the beverages so she could justify the 4 chest Freezers in the backroom bahahaha - I wish we had room for a chest freezer, but it's just not practical in a small space!
Ooh I’m going to head to Shepparton now that I know they have colourful cows!
They're everywhere!! So many cool ones, I wish we had stopped and walked around to see them all!
what Cummins have you got back there?
crikey guys - hope you get it sorted 🤞. We had a fuel filter issues a while back (hope that's all it is for you guys) and the best piece of advice I got was to put an outboard motor hand-primer in my fuel line before the filter - makes it SSOOO easy to prime the lines after changing filters 👍👌
what's happening with the bus?
What do you mean my friend?
@@DiandSam last video I watched it looked like you were having mechanical issues on your way back to the valley?
😮
That road was ragged!
You've heard of one door closes...this is one road closes...another one opens. Beautiful spot ❤
Hahaha that's it! You're so good at coming up with witty sayings she'll it makes my day every time!! 😍👏
OMG guys - what a stunningly, dramatic journey!! Glad you got to the private RV park. Life here has been blah. Already had a uncontrolled bushfire 1.5Kms away, power outages and running out of water - and it's still only Spring. Hope you are happily back in Bega now. Much love, Susan. XX
I know it was both exciting and gorgeous and also stressful as! Haha but we're safely in Bega now so happy to be in one piece! Still yet to 'repair' the bus 🚌 That would have been scary, hope they got it out of control quickly - and sending rain vibes your way to fill those tanks! Take care and take it easy before Summer harvests are upon us all ❤️❤️
