Jupiter Trucking
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 ก.พ. 2015
I'm an independent owner/operator, hauling flatbed freight in and around the Western United States.
Having been around trucking for over 50 years, I prefer it the way it used to be: simpler, friendlier, and family style, with small town values. Even today, we do nearly everything ourselves, in-house.
I'm self dispatched, self financed and run older, well maintained and paid off equipment. We run the back roads and depend on personal relationships to get things done.
Not only do we earn a living with the truck, we sometimes turn trucking trips into vacations and visits to family!
On this channel, I'll share stories of loads hauled, places delivered to and some of the people I meet, while doing what needs to be done to earn a living in what's become an overwhelmingly corporate industry.
What I do to "make a buck with a truck."

All it does is BLOW
I'm ready to roll, but the trailer just blows. An emergency repair before I can even leave the yard puts me behind and needing to catch up.

A small, cramped job site provides challenges, and needing a secret password to unload one of our loads almost delays us a day. Once all the obstacles are cleared, we fin...

This week we're hooked up to the step deck trailer! The plan is to take a gamble and try to find freight that will only work on a step deck trailer and make a little extra money at it. We're starting off with a 60' load heading to Tacoma with a 60' load. We have to dodge a couple road hazards along the way, then reload in Tacoma, WA. From Boise we reload dump trailers bound for Carson City, NV....

If I sped up to pass you and then slowed down, it means there's a hazard or speed restriction that I can see ahead. Point?
That is a possibility, but it was not the case here and they were not acting like there was a hazard. What they were doing is looking for a driveway on the left and forgot to turn their turn signal on. And when they saw the driveway they just stopped suddenly. Trust me, we talked it all out once we stopped
I pulled a flatbed 45 years and what I loved was the different loads the different places I went to down paved roads down gravel roads down dirt roads down you call this a road
Haha that's exactly right! It sounds like you can relate very well. Thanks for watching!
Gday Mate Really like your channel, no BS. In Australia we are not allowed to have that much overhang, what are your rules if you don't mind Take Care Mate
Hey there, thanks for the nice words, I appreciate it. Overhang laws vary from state to state, and it can be complicated to keep up with when traveling across several states. In Nevada, you are allowed up to 10 feet of overhang before needing a permit. I carry an annual permit for Nevada, good for one year, and they offer two different annual permits. One is good for 7 days a week, 110 feet overall length, with a max of 15' overhang. Their second permit allows weekday only travel, 110' overall length, 25' overhang. If you exceed those dimensions, you need a pilot car at the rear. And the next state will have different laws. Most states have different laws for 2 lane roads vs multi lane roads, and on and on. It gets complicated sometimes, and honestly I've messed up a few times in different states, but you're rarely checked by the cops thankfully. In fact, on this load I messed up, forgetting 15' was the maximum allowed on a Sunday. But no one checked, and I made it. I hope that helps!
@@jupitertrucking Thanks for the reply Mate, Take Care

I used to pull a stretch trailer quit often, hauling long rebar.
It's perfect for that! Thanks for watching.
@ I’m sitting in Fernley at the old Truck Inn watching all your videos. I deliver to the new Google data center on USA Parkway tomorrow morning.
The Truck Inn was really an old school truck stop, I was sorry when they tore it down. At least they kept the parking for everyone. That's cool that you're in the area! I'm glad to know that someone nearby is watching, that's pretty cool. I happen to be in Oregon for the weekend, but I'll be back in NV Tuesday. The next video will be about my trip and weekend here, I hope you'll like it. Thanks for reaching out!
@ I live just south of Eugene, Oregon. I brought an oversized load from Spokane and routing didn’t take me home for the weekend, a rarity for me.
I'm picking up in Eugene tomorrow for Reno. I hear you about weekends, I'm out this weekend because I delivered to Astoria on Friday and my wife said she'd come with me if we spent the weekend. So here we are 😁
how much u gross a week >?
Lose the music, I had rather listen to the diesel. Nice job.
Thanks. I've been working on the music levels, and I think I got this one a little loud. Sorry about that. I'm going to keep it, still trying to figure this whole deal out. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you like it
Gee Cee's - been a lil bit since been there
It's a great place to park. It's changed a bit over the years, but it's a great stopping place.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I appreciate it, I'm glad you like it.
Can't believe you didn't leave fr another 3 hours after I saw you Sunday morning! Excited to see your trip next week!
It was a rough morning, that's for sure. But it's all fixed up now! We're ready to enjoy the upcoming week. Thank you Ally;
Cold weather is always hard on equipment especially with the brakes and the fifth wheel the grease gets hard and things don't latch up good when you do a lot of drop and hooks. But thats the truckers life aint it loads of fun
It sure is. You've got a really watch yourself to make sure things work the way they are supposed to when it's that cold. Trucking life... I'm not sure if it's fun or torture or just fun torture 😁. Thanks for watching!
Never fun to work in the cold. I know the roll in the mud/ice routine. I drove truck in Prudhoe Bay Alaska year 'round. The flatbed brakes would freeze overnight and it was hell crawling/slithering under there to beat on the relentlessly to get the shoes free from the drum.🥶 I really enjoy your videos and all aspects of what you share. Humor is absolutely necessary on days like your first one this week. Between your channel and Bob's Gulch, I get to enjoy flatbedding again in the comfort of my travel trailer. It is my home on the road these days. I try to follow the sun as much as possible.😂
Prudhoe Bay?? That is taking things to a whole new level, wow. I can't imagine working in those conditions. However, you have just reminded me of a day I had about 15 + years ago in the frozen tundra of Northern Nevada that I got entirely on video. I'm going to have to dig that one up and post it sometime. Thanks for the reminder! I appreciate your comments and I'm glad you enjoy what I'm trying to share, and a little envious that you get to chase the Sun! I sure am missing some warm weather right now. Safe travels and thanks again!
I spent three "summer" seasons as an equipment operator in Antarctica in the later 80s, too. Those were my bipolar years! I had to learn to stop going so far south when chasing the sun!😅
Good grief, I didn't think you could outdo Alaska, but that'll do it. I don't even know how someone would even end up there if they wanted to. I think if you're going south you're supposed to stop at the equator for maximum Sun, haha
@@jupitertrucking I was a slow learner about that. I think some brain cells got frozen at some point. You are right. Stop at the equator!
Murphy’s law definitely apply to trucking . I have proved that many times over the years 😉 ! Always nice to get a back haul close to home. Thanks for the ride along !
Ain't that the truth! I think Murphy's law was written for trucking, if it isn't one thing it's another. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you watching!

@@Roger_Rabbit_Adventures it's brutal sometimes, usually even you least expect it.

RIP CW McCall...He's be proud of you, Jupiter Duck...
Haha, that's very kind of you. Thank you!
As an old guy that has never driven a truck I find your episodes very pleasing. I've always marveled at how truck drivers are able to park their rigs and seeing your work-a-day routine, ups and downs, is great. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Comments like yours are encouraging to keep at it, so I truly appreciate it. I'm trying to show what it's really like, at least for me, so what you're seeing is real. Warts and all. Thank you for watching!
With that chunk of metal, I question if the this is shrapnel from 12:52 "having a bad day" - Remember having a bad day is contagious and as drivers it is our duty to find the problem to limit the spread of bad days. Tualitin to Washougal only to double back to McMinnville is a day in traffic that sucks when they call you back like that.
@@timothyearp631 that's an interesting thought about the shrapnel, I wonder if there's any possibility to it. As far as Washougal, I never went that way. They cancelled as I was pulling out of the job site delivery in Tualatin, so it worked out ok, no traffic.
Jobsites are always a pain it the you know what. A lot of times they unload crap ot the way without thinking about how trucks are supposed to get in or out especially when they have limited space. But its like my old boss used to tell me "Well thats trucking". That used to always piss me off because he never drove a truck or had any idea what we had to go thru.
@@glindabeaven6805 having someone who's never driven say that can be real frustrating, that's for sure. The job sites are such a mixed bag, someone's it's incredible to see the lack of planning some people put into getting material inside the building. Thanks for watching!

@ She gotta name?
No, I can't say that it does. Never been much for naming the trucks, just didn't click with me. We call it Big Red most times, all of my trucks are usually called by their color. Creative, eh?
Something’s never change in the trucking world ! When I couldn’t find parking I used to look for a store or business with a loading dock and wait till they close then back in the dock for the night. Always got a wake up call in the morning and I would apologize saying something like I miss read my invoice and then go on my way.😉.
Haha, that plan works pretty often! I expected to wake up to someone pounding on the door, I was relieved that no one cared that I was there for a few hours. You have to do what you have to do! Thanks for watching!
Yeah if you do dry van you can use that type of excuse and back into Walmart docks or any other business but if you do flatbed or open deck it’s hard
@@jesseofori9840 for real. It's amazing how hard it's become in the last few years

I endured similar situations when I was trucking out of Jerome, ID in the early 2000s. You really have things dialed in with your equipment, your securement, and your repairs. Owner operators like you are rare these days. Your videos and commentary really brings it home reagarding the challenges and rewards of life on the road. Thanks for bringing back so many memories for me, Jupiter.
I super glad that you enjoy them, that means a lot to me, thank you! My intent is to simply show what goes on in my trucking world, not sugar coat it or talk down about it, so hearing that you can relate to the experiences is good to know, it kind of validates the effort. Thanks again

Best skate board load I did was out to San Francisco in the 90's before all the BS. I sat on the outskirt on a off ramp to some streets, now no parking. But go to see the golden gate bridge in the early dawn light as I was delivering anchor chain to the docks like few miles away and a little bit of morning fog on the harbor area. Was beautiful with the sunshine and colors. Take care

I love it when a plan comes together, it’s not very often you can find loads like that . Loading close to the drop off and going the direction you want to go 😉 “ sweeet “ ! It seems like I spent half of my career deadheading or taking cheap freight just to get back to an area where there is decent loads . Thanks for the ride along .
Yeah, I'm pretty stoked the plan worked out as well as it did this week! It's hard to make money running empty. Thanks for watching!
In the UK we'd call this trailer a "step-frame", but you say poe-tah-toe, I say poe-tay-toe...

I used to live in Hesperia California by Victorville CA

Washington that your chin that was on that last 4 the forks took off
I'm not sure what you're saying or asking
@jupitertrucking99 a chain was on the last pickup with the forks. I didn't know if it was your chain or the company chain. Sorry about the text.
I used all my own chains to secure the load
Great Creative & Relatively Simple Tail-light Extensions Idea!!! & Budgetary as well . Murphy's law prevention 2 Lights Instead Of 1. & Drone footage is great also. was the Black tarp there for drivers axle to be on? & Yep Green Lights at scales are Quick & Good News. & Yes Truck stop Parking is a Gambling "Game" . Nice Having That Spread axle for better weight distribution.
@@Nomadcreations thank you! The lights were an idea I couldn't believe I'd never seen before, it was so simple. The tarp is for trucks that leak oil. They have to clean the concrete when the job is done, so they do this. That's also why they make trucks stay off of the slab until the one in front is finished before we can pull up. Very true on green lights and truck stops! Thanks for watching!
