Here I have another video that shows how to back up a school bus around a corner. You want to start initially parallel 12" from the edge of the curb. You want to hug the corner but not touch it. You must end parallel within 12" on the other side of the curb. Remember never touch the curb.

The bus driver trainee and myself are inside the bus. I have already showed the trainee recovery points, throttle control and to trust what he sees on his mirrors. Our Behind the Wheel Manual helps us as instructors to train a driver step by step how to become competent. The area the bus is backing into is 46ft long x 9ft wide. The length of the bus is 40ft.

I want to show all my subscribers what I have my trainees do for a school bus pre trip inspection. There are many things the trainee must remember and the pre trip is done in the presence of a California highway Patrol officer. Mr. Lorenzo Montecino, to this point has done excellent and I will continue to work with him until he is competent.

California Education Code 39831.5 section (4) Prior to departure on a school activity trip, all pupils riding on a schoolbus or school pupil activity bus shall receive safety instruction that includes, but is not limited to, location of emergency exits, and location and use of emergency equipment. Instruction also may include responsibilities of passengers seated next to an emergency exit.

Although the procedure is slightly different in my area, and my bus isn't the same as yours, this was very useful in helping me visualize my procedure as it was taught to me - thank you Luis!
The way the occupant restraint is routed is incorrect and unsafe. the pelvic belt should be routed close to the body and NOT over the armrest as this video shows. Route the belt in between the backrest and the armrest to get a snug fit and prevent the child from sliding out and underneath the pelvic belt.

Hi, this is how we are taught to test, I drive an IC 23 seater(custom body, still hydraulic brakes). My question is why we pump 3 times. In any other vehicle with hydraulic brakes, we want it to work correctly on the first pump!

What a bunch of crap why would you get out of the bus with a bunch of kids still on the bus . If you did that in a Free state you'd be fired on the spot
This is clearly unacceptable and unnecessary
So glad you put the headlights on before starting!!!! Countless pre-trip sheets don’t state that & was told “its because you are testing in the day time for an inspector” and my comment was “teach it the right way - as if it is dark out - so that when you are doing your pre-trip, Which We Do Every Day, through season changes (and lighting changes) it will promote consistency which is key! Especially since drivers aren’t re-taught how to ‘do it the right way’ after they pass the test; which leaves drivers to doing some guess work, which causes change and inconsistency!! Fell On Deaf Ears SMH Again Thank You!!
