  • In this video I use the "Eight Light System" to conduct the unloading or loading of students. These procedures will help you have a better understanding of how to complete a "Student Escort". Proper use of Amber lights, Turn signal, 5- point mirror, Red lights and escorting procedures. I hope it can help you in your road to student safety.

Although the procedure is slightly different in my area, and my bus isn't the same as yours, this was very useful in helping me visualize my procedure as it was taught to me - thank you Luis!

If you have able 2 ask your school bus company bus machinic, (if you are trainee, you are already a part of the company until you fail 3-times and the bus company has to let you go; of course, you SHOULD go other school bus company, SINCE U have already been trained and maybe turn out better!), he or she can tell you very accurate since he fixes the bus, he should know more than anyone.

May not be in California? I said this, CZ when I turned off the bus, I must "PRESS" child check button back of a bus, obviously school bus, signifying there is NO child or sleeping child left on the bus. Or, since the engine is turned off, MAKING sure headlights are on, OR off that can be on depending on school district policy and or maker of the bus??. MAKE SURE ask N verify whether or not- HEAD-LIGHTS-SHOULD BE ON OR OFF-and-whether or NOT you MUST press "child check button on back of the bus to prevent honking alarm(!), "before you exit your bus to conduct child escorting part(!), THAT CAN MAKE YOU FAIL THE TEST, CZ ON AND OFF HEADLIGHTS ARE LINKED TO triggering child-check-alarm, then you automatically failed the test! Again, WHENEVER school bus was on and TURNED OFF, child check button must be pressed aforementioned reason MAKING sure not trigger an annoying honking alarm (!!) if so district and or bus maker and the bus company policy, the honking sound alarm is very annoying AND loud!! THE only way silence the honking alarm is restart the engine as there is NO reset button to silence the honking alarm! *So, make SURE to ask or check to see if the bus you are going to test equipped child alarm and or if you turned off the bus AND proceed to conduct "child escorting!"

This seems to be in California, also our school district buses don't activate the child check alarm when we activate our reds and release the front door manually ,so as long as we activate our reds and release the air to open our front door ,we can safely secure, turn off our bus and take the keys with us without worrying about child check.

Community beware. This individual has been run out of everyplace he's worked. Dishonest and cowardly he's not even accepted in his hometown. He was dismissed from his last employment for covering up some very disturbing conduct that's too sensitive to mention here. Be careful community.

What a bunch of crap why would you get out of the bus with a bunch of kids still on the bus . If you did that in a Free state you'd be fired on the spot

I understand that in other states this process may be different.
In California, student escort is required by law under CVC 22112 (california vehicle code). If you are a professional driver and have pupil management skills you can instruct your students to remain seated while you conduct a student escort. Thanks

Luis A. Espinoza the bus driver can still see the bus and the students.
