Getting wedding photography published
A quick note on how we've been able to get published in dozens of weddings magazines, blogs, and social accounts over the last decade along with some simple advice on seeing your photography in editorials or features. The magazine world has shifted so many times over the last ten years along side blogs and though seeing our work in national or regional publications is exciting it's so important to keep our clients and the art our number one priority. After finding out that we were about to have our 5th wedding published this year a few days ago I felt like it was a great time to unpack what that feels like a little and whether or not taking short cuts to seeing your wedding photography in print pays off. Ultimately, it's a major compliment to see our photos in magazines but it's not our focus. Instead we feel like simply taking care of our clients, the vendors that partner with us, and our art work will always add the most value to our brand long term.

Thanks for a great and genuinely useful video. I was about to invest into the Aputure ecosystem but I kept glancing at Nanlite products. Then I found out about Nanlite FC line and it just made sense. Sure it’s doesn’t feel as premium and robust as an Aputure light but you do get a lot for the price. Buying a Nanlite FC light is a compromise I am happy to make. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

The 55 is on my list, can you tell how fast the AF is in comparison to the 45mm? I‘m a street photographer and I‘m thinking about replacing the 45mm in my camera bag cause the AF is not that fast.

So to be fair - there's a LOT of difference between a 50mm 3.5 and a 55mm 1.7. Those differences are much larger than just the difference in F Stop. The AF speed, size of the front element and the way it collects light, and even the unique perspective of the 55mm makes it simply a much more attractive piece of glass. The easy argument towards shooting faster glass like this isn't in being able to shoot it at 1.7 but rather that it is sharper at 3.5 because it isn't wide open to achieve that aperture. Again, as I stated, not a paid ad by Fujifilm and not compensated in any way. I bought my 55mm and simply love the lens. You're more than welcome to disagree!

@@mileswittboyer.photoco Most lens traits are subjective, but one small correction - the GF 50 3.5 remains the fastest focusing lens from the entire GF lineup, the GF 55 1.7 didn't match those speeds. Otherwise, sure, all valid arguments.

I own it! And sadly it get's very little use. I've always loved the 63mm more in the 2.8 but a lot of that is the fact that I'm not a huge fan of the 35mm (equiv) focal range. That is all personal preference.

Nice commentary about the prime GS lenses. Curious to know if you use any of the Zoom and how you feel about it. As a landscape photographer I use the 20-35 the 35-70 and the 100-200 mostly. The work very well for my purposes and the IQ is superior. I do own the 55 and I fully agree with your feelings. Thanks you for your video.

I have the 100-200 and it has about a half of inch of dust on it. Truth be told I don't love zoom glass mostly because of the way it affects my creativity in shooting, again primarily as a wedding photographer. I see the draw, I just don't love the process. That said - I also have had a lot of problems with the sharpness of that lens. I haven't use the wider zoom glass.

I have an XT5 and I also have a GFX camera as well and they make a great tandem for events even though they have a slightly different look to them because of the film simulations and the way they render I can shoot both cameras on a shoot and my clients are still happy. I specify which shots are shot with the GFX. It might be the more candid shots during a wedding and also the ceremony but then I will use the XT5 for a lot of the walkabout shots. It's a great combination. Thanks for your video.

I know this video is old(er), but still wanted to comment. This is evergreen content and deserves to be promoted. Glad I found your channel. And… I know this story. I shot technical work in college on a 4x5 view camera, but after college lost access to that camera. Canon, canon, more canon. Then one day I made the leap to Fuji X-E2. I used that camera for a decade, loving it, until the X-S10. And I loved that camera. Bought the X-T5, traded it for the X-H2. Another camera I love. Just this year got the GFX100S and omg, I’m still wondering why I didn’t do that years ago. Some of my lenses are for commercial work, but my favorites are adapted manual focus lenses (and sometimes even my clients will notice the different look they give). Gear does matter.

This was fun! I’ve been shooting medium format since my father gave me his WWII twin lens Rollei. Shot Pentax 67 & 645. I do mostly architecture so mirror less opens all kinds of doors. I also do portraits of family. I disagree with you about the 45. I think it is a great lens and somehow very diff from a 35mm on FF. Your channel interests me in part bc I have too much gear. I sold the 63 and bought and sold the 80mm. The 55mm sounds very interesting tho heavy. For my money the best GF lens is the 110mm. It’s the only lens I use that makes me think I am a great photographer. The rest are great but suggest I’m still in a learning stage. My least favorite is the gf 100-200. I use the canon EF 100-400. Very heavy. Some vignetting but. SHARP! Way sharp. And focuses to 36 inches. Again, fun delivery!!! Thanks

@@bbones3318 It's sort of painfully clear that you don't understand what that word means. but yes - I am a Fujifilm X-Photographer. Who doesn't receive in kind of compensation from the company unless it's specific to a program, of which - this is not. (nobody get's paid by a brand to just create random videos, especially when they literally CALL OUT in the video that it's not paid)

@@mileswittboyer.photoco lmao "Fujifilm Professional Photographer". Literally no need to say any more. One who doesn't receive compensation but continues to shill them in the hope of getting escalated to main advertising campaigns.

@@bbones3318 so that's cute - i love the trolls. I'll be more clear, I'm on the global team of which there's a very limited list. An X-Photographer endorsed by Tokyo and the US team. The face of quite a few of their campaigns actually such as the release of the GFX100S and the Xt4/X100V. Not a youtube reviewer, an actual member of their team. That said, they don't compensate ANYBODY on their team, not me, or John Branch, or PVR, or Alison Conklin... ANYBODY for youtube videos like this. Instead we make them because - we believe in what we say. A touch of conviction is a great thing for this industry, especially from working photographers at the top of the industry. That said, it does come with the necessary element of dealing with people who clearly don't have much going on other than to pad my comment's section with more numbers. So Bones, will you be signing up for my workshops to learn something, or just rolling in on my youtube comments to act like you already know it all?

Awesome! Have you ever tried the gf 110mm? For me it's Fujifilm best lens on the GFX. Will definitely add the 55mm to my kit sooner or later!

We’ve used the 110 since it was released and love it. I mention it in this video as well. It’s a great lens though I’m not a BIG lover of long lenses. It has its use for sure and allows us a little reach when we need it. We carry two of them in the kit!

Why so much hate on that little 50, lol? It does have pretty fast AF, and if you stop it down a little it works fine in the studio. But you're right: no real magic. Nothing like those 55 shots at medium distance you showed: interest sparked :-) If you talk about magic, my favorite is the 110. That thing is awesome (but not the most versatile of course). The 30 is a solid lens too, and it always delivers when I need extra wide, but not as magical as that 55. I have a feeling your video is going to cost me money, lol. Subbed though :-)

Haha. Just poking fun at the 50 because it’s small and can’t fight back. I do love the 110 a lot and for portrait work it’s incredible. Love the reach but it doesn’t get as much use out of my camera because I love to get close.
