Thanks. I am just getting in the GFX system system and am trying to navigate through the lens selections. I did get a GF 35-70 as my first lens, primarily due to the compact size and lower cost. I find it adequately in terms of focus and image quality. This would be my travel lens. My first choice for the next lens is between the 80mm 1.7 and the 55mm 1.7. I have tried the 80mm 1.7 at a Fujifilm event and loved the images coming from it, even though it’s not optically perfect. I have not tried the 55mm 1.7 as yet but I heard it can be a little clinical. I was wondering if you could weigh in on this, since you have both? Have you tried the GF 45mm 2.8” this is the 35mm equivalent in Fujifilm’s GFX system (larger than full frame and not quite medium format according to a Fuji rep)? Thanks

What about 40mm 1,4 sigma on gfx? I have a 135mm 1.8 sigma and it gives good results, with a viltrox adapter it focuses better than the fujifilm 120mm macro....

Great video. Appreciate the disclaimer at the start but your video is very good. Been using the gfx ii and the x2d now for some time and love them both. Fuji lens are very good. I’d say not quite as good as Hasselblad. But much cheaper !! Love the camera.

It took me a long time for me to like the 50mm, but now it is one of my favourites. I sold the 45, 63 and 120, kept the 23, 30, 55 and 110, but also the 50. When I just want to walkabout, the 50 is king. The 55 is phenomenal though. I might add the Mitakon 65/1.4 (Zhongyi makes the Mitakon) or the 80/1.7, but I am not in a hurry. At the moment I am doing 65:24 with the 30mm. Fantastic look.

Another great video even though Fuji have now released to MK2 versions of the 100S. Have you assessed the new models?

Great video and very entertaining! The 55 1.7 GFX lens has been pretty much acknowledged as a top notch optic but a few reviewers have identified the lack a linear motor and noisy autofocus as a con - but you didn't mention this aspect. Maybe for your style of photography it is a non issue - but video photographers using the GFX may prefer a quieter focussing system. I have only just purchased a GFX 100sii - no lenses but the 55 1.7 is on the shortlist! Subscribed!

Thanks for a great and genuinely useful video. I was about to invest into the Aputure ecosystem but I kept glancing at Nanlite products. Then I found out about Nanlite FC line and it just made sense. Sure it’s doesn’t feel as premium and robust as an Aputure light but you do get a lot for the price. Buying a Nanlite FC light is a compromise I am happy to make. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

The 55 is on my list, can you tell how fast the AF is in comparison to the 45mm? I‘m a street photographer and I‘m thinking about replacing the 45mm in my camera bag cause the AF is not that fast.

I have 35mm,55 to 110mm zoom,200mm,300mm,500mm mamiya 645 lens with converter to fujifilm gfx camera. 150mm Hasselblad v lens with adapter. The images from the lens are wonderful .

Well 3 mins in, it begins. 55 great 50 bad, humm. 2.8 not blurry enough f2 ideal...

Nice commentary about the prime GS lenses. Curious to know if you use any of the Zoom and how you feel about it. As a landscape photographer I use the 20-35 the 35-70 and the 100-200 mostly. The work very well for my purposes and the IQ is superior. I do own the 55 and I fully agree with your feelings. Thanks you for your video.

I have an XT5 and I also have a GFX camera as well and they make a great tandem for events even though they have a slightly different look to them because of the film simulations and the way they render I can shoot both cameras on a shoot and my clients are still happy. I specify which shots are shot with the GFX. It might be the more candid shots during a wedding and also the ceremony but then I will use the XT5 for a lot of the walkabout shots. It's a great combination. Thanks for your video.

I have the new 100s ii and its amazing...image quality is so good. Ive been looking at it for a while The 63 2.8 looks a bargain 👌 Ive just gone back to weddings Should i get the 55 1.7 ??

Sold my GF 50mm to get the GF 55mm. The small size and fast AF speed wasn't enough to justify keeping it.

Here are my three best Fuji prime lenses for my Fuji APS-C digital mirrorless cameras: 16mm f/1.4 Fujinon 23mm f/1.4 Fujinon 56mm f/1.2 Fujinon What three GFX lenses would give me the speed and angle-of-view that would be equivalent to my three APS-C lenses.

I know this video is old(er), but still wanted to comment. This is evergreen content and deserves to be promoted. Glad I found your channel. And… I know this story. I shot technical work in college on a 4x5 view camera, but after college lost access to that camera. Canon, canon, more canon. Then one day I made the leap to Fuji X-E2. I used that camera for a decade, loving it, until the X-S10. And I loved that camera. Bought the X-T5, traded it for the X-H2. Another camera I love. Just this year got the GFX100S and omg, I’m still wondering why I didn’t do that years ago. Some of my lenses are for commercial work, but my favorites are adapted manual focus lenses (and sometimes even my clients will notice the different look they give). Gear does matter.

This was fun! I’ve been shooting medium format since my father gave me his WWII twin lens Rollei. Shot Pentax 67 & 645. I do mostly architecture so mirror less opens all kinds of doors. I also do portraits of family. I disagree with you about the 45. I think it is a great lens and somehow very diff from a 35mm on FF. Your channel interests me in part bc I have too much gear. I sold the 63 and bought and sold the 80mm. The 55mm sounds very interesting tho heavy. For my money the best GF lens is the 110mm. It’s the only lens I use that makes me think I am a great photographer. The rest are great but suggest I’m still in a learning stage. My least favorite is the gf 100-200. I use the canon EF 100-400. Very heavy. Some vignetting but. SHARP! Way sharp. And focuses to 36 inches. Again, fun delivery!!! Thanks

Hey Miles! Great video! I'm sorry you don't love the gf 45mm as much. There is something unique about the rendering of that lens, I've been using it for almost 6 years now and I still fall in love every time I use it! That being said, I'm so ready to try the 55 for wedding work :D

The only time you need or could use high frame rates is for sports. I always set up the shot and shoot with several variations. So I agree, high FPS people tend to spray and pray. Who wants to cull all of that! ;)

The 55 might be snappier than the 63 but it's still a slower to AF lens compared to som offerings like the 110 or the 45. Really like your review...though... too much belief in magic :)

does it learn and utilize the tone curves by any chance? One issue I had with other AI editing software was that it didn't touch the tone curves, which are a huge part of my editing.

Thank you for having the balls to call the GF50 for what it is. A boring lens! I may be the only other person who shares your opinion on this. (Havent read your comments yet, but I'm hoping more people agree). Fun fact, I started out with the XT2 before going medium format - the GF50 was the ONLY lens I have sold. Ever. Across all systems. I wanted to love the lens so much. The lens does not have any magic. Well said.

Hi Miles, beautiful work! I just bought a second hand 100s. The wide shot at the very end with all the crossbeams, what lens was that shot on and have you reviewed it on your channel? There's no distortion, it looks great.

I have been in the GFX system now for about six months or so and I'm not a full-time wedding photographer. I do a lot of different photography. Everything from landscapes to weddings to Real Estate to products. I do a bit of everything. And I haven't got the 55 1.7 yet but it's definitely on my list. I'm currently saving for the new GFX100s ii and I'm really looking forward to that and then I'll get the 55 1.7.. Oddly I think I just clicked the subscribe button and I'm your 1000 follower congratulations. I was going to start a TH-cam channel myself but decided not to as I'm too busy. I don't shoot full-time but I have a well-paid day job and I do have a small Photography business which is going really well and I love Fiji film. I actually used to use the Nikon D850 and I love the feeling of that camera but it wasn't Mirrorless, now that I have a mirrorless camera no going back. Thanks for your video. Had the GFX50R. The GFX50SII. Sold them to get the GFX100S. Love it! I also had the GF50mm and came to the same conclusion that you did. Sold it. Had the GF110, (didn't like the chatter it made.) And the GF35-70mm. Sold them. I agree with you 100% about the GF55mm. I also have the GF30mm. But since I bought the GF55mm, it hasn't been off the camera. Also have the GF45-100mm and the GF100-200mm, but haven't started using them yet. After the GF55mm, nothing else will do!

The 55mm is all that you say it is and then some. The imgages I'm able to produce make it look like I might actually know what I'm doing. The caveat being I haven't worked up the courage yet to tell my wife that I spent over 10 grand on a new camera system....have a spare room?
