Hello and welcome to my channel! I am an aspiring comedian who retired from the Royal Canadian Navy and have been trying to expand my horizons through media.
I am a slave to nostalgia and love to play older games from my childhood with the hopes of meeting other like minded people, or at least show others a world of games that they are missing. Good or bad.
I am going to try some video essays, challenge runs, and anything else that catches my fancy so come along for some laughs.
*Being the artist formerly known as Drewstor* all of my older more casual lets plays are still on the channel just put to the side. You can still enjoy them but just be aware that I call myself something else, and am a young precious baby in those vids.

Blood and Magic Review, a Hidden Gem
One of my childhood favourites that no one seems to talk about these days. A charming Dungeons and Dragons Real Time Strategy game from 1996 that is worth checking out. Fond memories of playing this with Dadmiral back in the 90s.
My second attempt at a review video so hope you guys like these! I try to stream every weekend so feel free to come hang out.

Pretty sure the more you use a structure or the longer you have it then the higher chnave you have to get extra units when it's broken
I immediately thought they were using ai upscaling, especially when i saw that static weird filter loading screen...
Please make a vid for an rts game about 1930 chicago mafia. One where you collect from some districts and then build dudes with baseball, knife, tommygu, etc. Sometimes cops drive their auto to join the fight, so you have to build your own to escape. Unfortunately iForgot the name of it and failed to find it on gog or on abandonware. Used to Played it way back on pentium2 as a kid.
2:30 i guess it is this slow to give you some room for manual resource mining. To compensate the fact that it is not automated. Not sure about hardware limitations and how well it was optimized. That might well be another reason.
I tried playing War1 recently and was disappointed, I forgot about the single click mouse and limitations. War2 was always my jam, but when I just found out about the remakes I was thinking it was getting the Reforged treatment. I'm kinda sad about how they came about with this. I would really enjoy a Reforged War2, as I wasn't the biggest War3 fan.
Call me bloodthirsty but even if my objective is to kill only one of the orc clans none shall stand as I leave the main objective as the last trembling fools that I will rid this world of .
the game is not good. I expected a remaster not a reskin. the commands and AI scripting is laughably bad unless it's the comp. the attack command doesn't work and the group move is somehow worse than before. I'm already a couple hours in so can't get my refund.
Dad found out I really enjoyed StarCraft 64 and so when he found out that he couldn’t buy the N64 version anywhere, he got me the PC version. He got me other games I fondly remember over the years (Project Nomads, Chaos Legion), but nothing adjusted my life’s trajectory the same way. I miss you dad.
@@LeQuack147 cheers to all the great gamer dads! And the dads that helped blossom our love for gaming ❤️
I love the game thank you for this. One thing I like to point out in this game is how big the effect of the environment is on the game. Simple positioning of your units (or getting the enemy at bad positions) can tripple your damage or half the damage you receive from enemy attacks (depending on the stats and the ground tile of course). I really like this strategic use of the environment. Btw I managed to beat the last level. It is possible, but 6 basal golems for mana won't cut it here.
As i expected, a low-effort, souless, nostalgia-bait cashgrab. The control upgrades are the bare minimum, really. Blizzard won't see my money I loved WC1. I regret not buying it at Gog.
Great video, theres also a video that i believe goes a bit more in depth on the game by William SRD should you be interested
Really enjoyed that! I don't remember the game at all, but I wish I did. I'm sure I'd have loved it back in the day, seems better than WC1 tbh!
Appreciate the effort you put into this deathless series. Commentary is spot on too
@@ByF8thThruGrace thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
At some point i might take a look at food as it is in my list of exodos
Well from what I know, Blood and Magic takes place in the far eastern parts of Forgotten Realms, and a daemon just eating people here and there is like their Fridays. It was quite a good game even with its flaws. And it would have been really awesome to see more settings put into an RTS or TBS games. Like imagine Dark Sun with a campaign in either a TBS or RTS format, slow and methodical.
I effing loved/love this game as a kid and i still jump into it as an adult. All the music lives rent free in my head
Is Blood and Magic as D&D being canon?
@sbplankton_1999 not sure! A member of chat said it was though but I dont know enough
4:11 "holy doesn't exist" Lol, DOSbox is an atheist, apparently.
@@GurniHallek i like how the holy part is what it focussed on 🤣
Good news! And bad news. The WC1 briefings are voiced and animated again! But the map section is still conspicuously missing.
I remember playing a demo of Blood and Magic and having a hard time figuring it out. Once I did, it was pretty fun.
I used to play this game as a child, and I occasionally have flashes of memory of it. Rarely anything concrete, just images mostly. Even so this was a bit of a nostalgia trip.
I used to play Choas Island a lot when I was a kid. The AI could be dumber than a second coat of paint but it was a decent time killer. Couple of tips if you do pursue it further. You don't lose upgrades when someone dies, they just become unusable for the rest of that mission. The final mission has a spot where you need to bush munch your way to guarded supplies, but if you have the top level attack on a char it's ranged and can kill the rexes before opening the path. When you get to a level that has "The Valley of Death" (can't remember the number) it's a no-build, the best strat I found was to just buy max peons (research assistant) and throw them one at a time to the various pathways, if they get eaten when opening the gates nbd.
What about Magic and mayhem?
Too bad that Game was lost in time
Nymph has an interesting potrait
Jokes on you, I played this game dozens of times, first time when I was 5. It just is a very atmospheric RTS and has some unique features I haven't seen anywhere else. The AI is pretty bad and sometimes levels are unfair or impossible to beat, but it still is a fun experience trying out tactics and new units. Still playing this at least once a year
Ive played this game, i think first on CD and then "abandonware" many years later.
lol the cut to tourettes guy. your videos are quickly becoming some of my favorites. and dont forget to do your science homework.
@@stevenbell1888 i think every situation or emotion has a tourettes gut clip that matches it 😂 and dont worry I will!
Yeah for me it's apparently only $20.
4:30 why was there an ogre image on the screen, are you baiting us with that sexy two headed giant 😆
Hey iddy ever think of playing jurassic park operation genesis. It has a pc port. You can find it on abandoned ware.
Also that jurassic park game is totsly made by the studio that did small soldiers squad commander.
funny, deathless has always been how i played
Ah yes, a wonderful time when experimenting with RTS genre produced gems like this and Z
A low effort money grab. Nothing, including the QoL enhancements, makes this worth the money to me. They were fantastic games when I got the original battlechest, but these were just too low effort. Updating the graphics and animations... primarily, seems like something an intern team would be given and finished in less than 2 months. What a waste of effort on something that could have been golden. They weren't remade, which is nice... but they were barely a remastered game. Just an HD overlay.
0:09 Lords of the Realm II Mentioned! God I love that game
brace yourself because my next review might be this very game ;)
can't wait 👌
Are you going to do anything with submarine titans by chance :)?
I wonder why it's not on GOG? Maybe they don't know about it? 🤔
@@tisucitisin1 no idea! Maybe the license is buried somewhere because its technically dungeons n dragons? It would be an easy buy on gog though 5 bux and off you go!
My dad got me hooked on this game. I wish I could still get it besides an emulator
"bro ain't chewin' any more" literally unplayable
@@VinceGwhite he chews now! They fixed it haha shockingly!
Just finished it 2 days ago and I did watch your lets plays for the cutscenes (which is how I found your channel) as I couldn't get them to work. I thought the game was very interesting and very fun I would defiantly recommend it over say command and conquer covert operations that turned every map into Verdun because its of difficulty. My only complaint is their wasn't much you could do if the AI decided to Griffon/Valkyrie rush your economy early game around the 2 to 3 golem mark. Also I preferred an 8 golem economy to your 6 from what I saw of your gameplay. I feel like druids and mages need a buff as warriors and priests were so much better to run with respectfully
@@goctexas1444 oh yeah those gameplays were 11 years ago so i have upped my strategies ahah and yes in getting footage for this video i got fury rushed quite often and it became so annoying. Or nymphs...man nymphs can F off so hard they come to your golem farm and just walk ALL of them out! You cant go wrong by going warriors or paladins in my opinion but yeah druids are pretty useless overall except for that one map covered in brambles
@@Admiral_Iddy I would space my golems in x formations to try to limit the damage of nymph pulls but they got me good in final red campaign were you have to destroy the town
engagement comment
Ah, good old DOSBox Mounting commands. I remember learning how to run Windows CeMeNT INSIDE of DOSBox to run Mordor: Depths of Dejenol, a game that required early Windows infrastructure but needed all the old DOS hooks. Just seeing a "Mount C/:stuff" brings back memories...
@@MythrilZenith i actually became quite alright with mounting the cds, at the time. But when i learned that you could drag n drop omg what a difference haha
I remember this one :) I thought it was ok, nothing to write home about. You're right about it being slow; I think the pace is what put me off to be honest.
Also, I STILL get haunted by "Your basal golem has been killed" 😀
WOWOWOWOOWOW !!!!!! I Had a demo of this game, as a kid. I played it a lot, not even knowing the title. ( I was 10 years old at that time) Couple times I have asked for this game, trying to describe it, and everyone was giving me some crap answers, like Warcraft1 or some other popular titles. I thought I will never find it. GIGA THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! (there is also another game I am looking for, but I already gave up on that)
@@tossterr87 that was the same as me! I literally looked at a list of all games alphabetically until i saw the picture of it and it blew my brain out haha glad i could reunite you with it 😁 maybe a future review will be the other game you want!
@@Admiral_Iddy there is one, also from very old demo disc, around 1996-1998. It was somewhat Japanese setting. Kinda two badass characters, like from Contra, it was a kinda rail shooter, but I'm quite sure you could move your toon as well. (so kinda cross between Raptor: Call of the Shadow, [good game btw] Contra and Virtua Cop). But the graphics were gr8, not like pc games of the time, more like arcade machines. You could "insert coin" and play two players, one mouse, one keyboard. Different weapons, power ups, from the crates, it was a fantastic game, I'm sure
Wake up babe, new Iddy video dropped
Limewire aids hits too close to home.
A game like this for me is tzar:burden of the crown. Severely underrated, engaging, cool little story, eastern European vibes, beautiful sprites.
I also only know Tsar because my dad bought it, exactly as described in this video.
@@sbonel3224 i streamed this recently! My chat suggested it and i tried it on a variety night and it was super solid
@@Admiral_Iddy nice to hear, I'll check it out!
Nice video, I never played Blood & Magic but still its nice to see it remembered.
I must say, this game seems to be amazing hidden gem. Did not know about it before (and I played almost all D&D games of the olden era) so on the list it goes.
The equivalent game for me would be Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds. You can play as either the martians with their powerful tripods and flying machines, or the humans with their primitive tanks and deadly ironclads. A lot of great ideas and some cool cutscenes. But It's kind of easy once you figure out what units are good. But by far the best part about it is the music. It's all remixed from the original jeff wayne's wotw rock opera. And it really kicks ass, I can't recommend it enough. I don't know how my dad found it, but im convinced I'm one of the few Americans who even knows the game exists. Or even that the album exists.
