In this car, it’s a unibody so technically the rear quarter panel is part of the “frame” since these cars don’t have a real frame. There are some more structural parts of the unibody but technically this is “frame” damage since the unibody is technically the frame. But he’s incorrect about it not being able to be repaired. Frames and unibody’s can be pulled or cut and repaired. I think he might be talking about his insurance covering it. Because even though we pay 20-50k for these JDM cars to get them here, their actual value is typical of a 20-30 year old Nissan. There are a few companies that will cover it under special conditions, such as collector, custom, or show car insurance. But they are extremely expensive and have very strict limits on how many miles you can drive and so forth. This is definitely more than 1k to get it fixed correctly. They can pull the quarter panel and then fill it and then paint it. The rear bumper cover is not expensive at all. I’m sure he can find a replacement with the same factor paint code, or get an aftermarket bumper from a kit or something. The paint alone on the rear, to do it right is going to be about 1k. Yes there are plenty of shops who with fill it in completely with bondo after getting the trunk seam right and then patch pain it but that’s not the right way.
