Playing Guitar with One Finger using Marshmallow DIY Sustainer

Metal Marshmallow Pro vs MMII Contact Mic Comparison
It's so overwhelmed... 😮
Excellent work. I like the way you think. I'd love to see a sustainer for multiple strings ( like all 6 or more )
This is awesome. Currently building one using your kit.
can i get the schematics? i live in India it is not available here
Could the pro model be modified so that instead of a circular planar surface for contact a single, dual or multi pin contact surface is utilized?
Have you designed a passive structural contact microphone in the midst of all this? just curious
How did you achieve the stereo sound with a single mic? Is this 2 segments of the recording panned to the sides?
Yes, exactly.
I found you a couple hours ago because someone recommended your Pro mic to me. You're the best kind of weird. I've learned so much from your videos. Your ideas and execution are fascinating. I'm pretty much binging your entire channel lol. Also just ordered a mic. Wonder if I need a second one... Is stereo with contact mics worth it?
I would buy a mic from you, if it comes with a TRRS audio jack that I can plug into my phone. I need a piezo mic to tune mechanical watches. There are several programs to do this, but I need a good pickup for them to work well.
what is intended frequency range of this MMII? Is it good for voice?
14:45 "This is why I'm doing this research as openly and transparantly as possible" My guy, why then do you not provide any schematics or BOM for your board? I get that you're trying to get a business off the ground, but you're asking $35 + $20 in shipping for a board with less than $1 in components...
Nice Work. Did Something similar as student approx. 10 years ago, but more the Fernandes sustainer approach, where the Neck Pickup also acts as an inducer. Used a cheap empty pickup bobin plus the "Ruby" amp as a Driver circuit dir an own coil, worked Like a charm despite trying out the inducer coil gauge and length manually.. however I never did a PCB as I later bought an actual Fernades FS40x kit
do i assume correctly that when it is powered with a higher voltage (like 12 or 16) and enough amps, the magnetic field it generates is stronger?
...because i need need need an overpowered e-bow.
also, huge thumbs up for making this open source!
Hi I have one of these but without the lid - is the lid essential for the sound to work ? Either for outdoors or placed by a window ? Any advice is much appreciated - thank you !
Do you share any insight on what you did to improve the design somewhere? Selling stuff is fine, but when you tag it DIY you’re clogging up the search results for us who want to learn to build one, and actually making it harder to find information we’re looking for.
I was watching a video on TH-cam when I saw your channel. I noticed one thing: Your content is very good but your video views are decreasing. Then, I researched your channel and found that your video's SEO score is terrible. If you can do SEO-friendly things for your channel and videos then your TH-cam channel and videos will develop rapidly. If you want, I can help you grow your TH-cam channel. I have emailed you about this. I have said it in detail there, you can take a look at it.
Hi, i have a question about the inductors. I try to build similar coils right now, but i'm having trouble soldering the wire onto the pins in the bobbin. The wire i'm using is poly-nylon coated, so the solder doesn't stick to it and if i heat it long enough for the coating to melt it damages the plastic bobbin the pin is pressed into by heating. How did you get around this problem? Greetings from germany!
Brain melting
Figure out how to make d 104 silver eagle mic elements, you'll be rich
Fantastic video, I'm glad I found your channel! Excited to watch your other videos :)
Your Mom's bottom is recessed to accept the pipe! Hooya! 2:50 Just a little teasing. Great vid though.
why does it keep ringing? is it because of the wind?
Yes, the wind makes the strings vibrate!
You could attach two or more to a windmill or sorts so they spin and create a rotary speaker modulation effect... with added gearing and or flywheels, perhaps the windmill could be constructed to spin the flutes at a more consistent/optimal speed for the best sound, even as the wind fluctuates.
Oh yeah, that would be cool!
I didnt subscribe
hahah Perfect, thanks!
I thought all the time, why TF TH-cam keeps recommending this kite thingy. Then I saw, OH it´s this crazy contact mic guy HÄHÄHH. The church piece has a really great breathy noisy texture in the tones. Also the fan sounds interesting through the contact mic and the shiny morning rod. I always learn something new here 😊
Thanks for watching and I'm sorry that youtube recommendation-bombed you with my video, haha!
9:28 "cut them short so you can tune them down later" I thought it would make more sense to cut them long, so that if you screw up you can chop off extra length. That's how I make my pvc flutes anyways
Yeah, that works too. I like to cut it a quarter-tone short and add length back on with a tuning slide, since the tuning can vary slightly with humidity, temperature, altitude, etc. It is nice to have adjustability.
How is the pre-made Pro grounded?
Ground comes from the phantom power supply through the cable shield. That connects to an internal circuit board, which is electrically connected to the housing through a screw.
@@metalmarshmallowllc Oh shoot, I see the video answered that haha, thanks!
Amazing ! thank you for making this :)
Or build the ultimate noise box with those😁
I did, its on my other channel! th-cam.com/video/1IDEIXW61Yk/w-d-xo.html
@metalmarshmallowllc when I bought my 6505--brand new--i blew a fuse but didn't know that. Took it to the Peavey maintenance dude in Fresno CA where he showed me the simple issue 🤦🏻; however, this was a man of git-fiddle genius. He incorporated a slick little pickup over his whammy and it was clean...did some magnet shit for his finger too to get a wild chorus n delay...
This has been done. Awesome idea. However, you need to incorporate this sustainer on the wammy bar. Then yer in 😉🤘🏻
Is that Bart Hopkin's Musical Instrument Design I spy? That book was very influential for me, great to see it in the wild
Yes, its an awesome book! I was suprised that it dosen't mention kite flutes
great Video in an crappy Place....;)
I like the graffiti
It would be cool to make your yard art something that rotates slowly on the vertical axis. Attached to the axis is a set of flutes tuned to different notes and arranged at different angles so that it plays an arpeggio as it rotates.
That would be cool!
Very interesting!
This was cool. I had no idea kite flutes even existed
@11:55 - that's a lovely church organ sound. You should co-lab with David Hilowitz (youtube.com/@DavidHilowitzMusic) - he loves sampling stuff
If I were a real youtuber I would have called this "I Made the World's Largest Kite Flute"
Or "You are doing it wrong, do this instead"
Why don't you use a preamp like ultragain from behringer or art tube ? Isn't it a cheap solution ?
Thx a lot for the video BTW!
Nice. What’s it plugged into?
Hi! Wonderful tutorial! Will give this a go! Do you have any experience or recommendations making preamps for small electret capsules?
5:21 you need to put a loose cloth over it, and you need to use a flat surface like a tray or something, i did it like that and i got at least 3 by 2/2.5cm crystals
Is there any way to get this in canada? on the website it says that it cannot calculate the shipping price
I normally ship to Canada but right now Canada Post is on strike and not accepting shipments from abroad. You can order on Etsy and there are options for other carriers.
Love this 🤩
Good video
what song is that?
Humm, I wonder how it would record if I did rumba strumming 😊😊
Amazing man, you answered everything thank you
I'm wondering how powerful is this sustainer compared to an E-bow?
i ordered one MM Pro three days ago...:) maybe not the last because i would love to hear them in Stereo !
Nifty project! Do you think it would be possible to use a single humbucker/mini-humbucker (one in which you could split the coils, anyway) as the driver instead of two single coils appart from one another like you've tested?
