Unlimited Track Days for $315 a Month || MSR Houston Track Review
Sitting right outside of beautiful Houston Texas, and only a few minutes from the beach is an extremely rare opportunity to attend track days almost every day!! Motor Speedway Resort Houston, or MSRH is a membership track that offers, a great layout, power and garages on site, multiple track configurations, and a great price!! While the initiation fee is a large dent in the pocket book, following that one time fee, unlimited track days await at the cost of just $315 a month. With at least one weekend guaranteed open for members each month, and plenty of week days in between that feels like a no brainer if you live in area. Track layout and design are not the most intense in the book, but definitely a fun track to learn, and well worth a trip out and the consideration of a membership if you live close!!!

Low Budget Film Reviews and the Unstoppable Toprak || JKMoto Podcast EP-71
I remember you saying you were coming to Texas, but man, MSRH is probably our least improved track (or as we say here: the track with the most "character"). I was thinking you were heading to COTA or Eagles Canyon, especially on your RSV (high roller). The other issue is that its close to the ocean so it's usually damp. The "Bus stop," yeah that one always makes me pucker. If its wet, I was told not to ride on the concrete, but I seem to gravitate there and the traction always seems better there than the tarmac (my experience). One good thing about MSRH, I've been told that if you can do well at MSRH, you should do well in all nearby tracks. I also like the facilities, they have plenty of overhead cover. I would agree with your assessment on the track being fun and it is a long track. So long as its dry. LoL Great review.
@@jerrymorales6501 due to some friends in area MSRH came first on the list, definitely not the last track I'll hit in Texas though!! Compared to other tracks I've seen around the country the pavement patches do make it a little interesting, but all in all a great track with plenty of grip to go around! Eagles canyon is definitely next on my list for tracks I want to try!!

@@patrickstevens3721 that's what I'm talking about!! It'll be a freedom you didn't know you were missing out on! Motorcycles are an amazing addiction! Thank you!
in terms of starting the bike periodically, if youre going to do it actually ride the bike or let it idle for like 20 minutes. you will always naturally have some condensation in the motor and its not a big deal. But if you start it and dont let the bike run long enough to actually evaporate it youre actually doing more harm than good.
Good tips, thank you!! I honestly usually just let mine sit or pull them out on a sunny day and do some neighborhood laps to ensure their up to temp!
Use fuel stabilizer and fill the tank
Thanks for the input!!
do you leave it on a charger whole winter on the bike? I got a thickle charger and wondering if the battery needs a break once in a while of the charger. (mine should cut off when full)
With the trickle, I've always left it on when the bike is not in use. I'm definitely no battery expert, but the trickle chargers are usually good about only charging when there is a need for it.
Motorcycle season is ending.....😭 I'm curious, do you top off your bike with fuel??? .....to eliminate the "air space" in the tank. 🤔 .....snowboard season is starting. 😃👍❤🏂
@NHlocal Full it to the top. This prevents the inside of the tank from sweating as temperatures go up and down during off season. It prevents rust on tank walls and gas with rusty water in come spring.
Agree with what else was said, should have mentioned that in the video good catch!! Snowboard season is starting for some (lucky you) for me sadly I just get colder and more wet lol
@@peytonhibdon7659 That was my thinking based on what I've heard and my own experience. Thanks and keep yourself safe! 😎👊❤🏍
@@JKMotoEntertainment No snow??? That is sad..... great way to keep in shape during the winter for sure. 😎👊
Definitely miss living in an area with the snow, snowboarding was a big hobby of mine before!!
You forgot to mention winter therapy sessions. You should watch track day and Moto America videos at least three night a week to keep your sanity intact during snowmageddon season. This could save some unsuspecting non-motorcycling persons life when the ask what's the big deal about not riding?
Lol, this one is focused on the bikes we'll have to put out a "rider winter lay up" video later on to cover these topics you mentioned. 🤣
@JKMotoEntertainment That was for the 🏍. They are addicted to the shindig too. The Red Rocker gets grouchy when not properly thrashed on a regular basis 🤪🤪🤪
Fair enough, do you have any good tips for helping the bikes through the long off season?
@JKMotoEntertainment If you choose to start the bike in the cold be sure to let it get warm and heat sink for 25 or 20 minutes. Then restart the bike and let it come up to full temperature and idle several minutes. If it is truly warm throughout it will sweat internally which is detrimental to the oil ability to protect the internals.
@peytonhibdon7659 good to know, thanks for that info!!
Very well made video! Painful to watch the rookie mistakes like poor use of pin, not needing strap if in was used right, body position, ratcheting arm position, bead breaking technique, etc - but we have the luxury of learning from your mistakes - so again, thanks for posting.
Thank you! Definitely a little bit of a learning curve, especially without watching the Rabaconda tutorial first. After some good practice, and all the tips from these comments use has gotten much better!
I guess I'm the odd man out here. I find track days boring. I have no desire to see how fast I can go around the same couple miles of turns all day long. I much prefer riding 300 - 400 miles of twisty roads in the mountains. I've done a few dozen track days and done many of the track schools. I did three track days this year in fact: YCRS ChampSchool at NJMP and Total Control ARC at PittRace. For me, the track is a fine place to improve my skills, but it's like going to the gym to prepare for the real fun: SPORT-touring. Of course, YMMV....
@@garrysimmons111 nothing wrong with that!! I definitely prefer the opposite, and I'll add that it does change a little if you start pursuing racing. But I'll always respect differences in opinion thanks for the comment!
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Aprilia only struggling because they can’t update their bikes due to both riders leaving. Their performance dropped of a cliff directly after maverick made his announcement along with aleix.
I wasn't aware of that, but it does make sense and the timeline you mentioned definitely holds true. My opinion would be that a manufacturer would continue to make updates no matter who the new riders are, but I'll have to do some more research on that now, because now you've got me thinking.
@ yeah. What makes it worse is that Jorge will be hoping on essentially a 2 year old bike but since they are doing so horrible this year I think it puts them in a lower tier allowing to test more
I really hope for Jorge's sake they can get a good package out there! He's definitely got talent and it'll make next season a lot more fun if there's some other brands riding in the front also!
Speaking on mods you know nothing about because "your friend won a race without it" is pretty damn stupid. 1. Lowering for roll/drag racing is worth it. People don't take these for track days. 2. Stretching for roll/drag racing is worth it. People don't take these for track days. 3. People who run underglow don't typically run track days. 4. A cheap exhaust hmm maybe... cutting pipes and stuff is for squids that normally don't give a damn about anything you're saying. 5. Stunt cages are for.... shocker... stunters. Commuters or track riders don't do that. Unless they're big adventure bikes thats a whole other culture. People who are doing track day are more informed than this.
Thanks for this feedback! I don't remember mentioning a friend winning a race but I'll have to rewatch the video and see where that was. I do believe that I also mentioned all the things that you mentioned here in your comment, but it's nice to hear it again. I definitely don't know everything, in fact I know quite a little which is why I usually start the video (as in this one) with stating that these are my opinions. But once again thank you for the feedback and for watching the entire video to see all the points. I'll take this onboard moving forward.

@@adammartinez1509 I don't know of any stores that carry them yet, but they're available on the rabaconda website.
Speaking of swing arm length how do you feel about the wheel being placed either at the front of the swing arm drop outs or at the very rear and what effects can there's two changes have on the bike handling
@@512460 I think you do have a small change in wheelbase and therefore a small change in handling. The bike is designed for that though, chains will stretch over time, so there does have to be some wiggle room for adjustment.
@@512460 when you place the wheel all the way forward you obviously shorten the wheelbase but it also helps the bikes change of direction. It will be a bit nervous feeling though. In opposite, when you put it all the back in the drop outs (bmx guy at heart) you give the bike stability in the turns although it’s not as agile from side to side. Hope that helps
@@vr46nh69bs11 haha yes my friend you spotted the bmx terminology haha.. Yes my fellow bmxr haha. Appreciate that you noticed and the detailed insight
Remove that throttle upgrade from the list and replace it with tank grips. Also remove exhaust from the list and replace that with tire warmers.

It's definitely awesome to see all the different bike types out there enjoying the ride!! Glad to hear that happens all over, I'm a big believer in any bike being fun at a track day!!!
I see that last year's trackday massacre sticker. This year's was great
@@smus2845 wish I could've been there!! Any updates to the track yet?
I never checked on this personally so you should do your research to find out for sure but I remember hearing that helmet brand was NOT allowed racing at the club level let alone at a national level. Helmet didn’t pass certain testing I guess. As a corner worker I see a lot of crashes where people hit their heads and I have seen people helicoptered away due to a cheap helmet that fractured (spider cracked) fairly bad. Might be ok for some but your helmet is the most important piece of all your gear and it should be valued enough to buy something that you can trust. How many icons do you see at the track? How many at club races? That should be a good indicator in my mind of what most people think of it. I bounced my head off the pavement at the track and I never lost consciousness and my helmet was scratched preset good but nothing more. The on scene people asked me several times if I ever blacked out. Apparently it looked worse than I thought 🤣
I bought an Arai because I have a weird head shape and it’s the only one that doesn’t give me headaches
Definitely good info that I haven't heard before! I've been wearing this for track days and club racing with no comments from tech or any fellow racers yet, but I'll take a deeper look into that. Maybe just certain models? I definitely agree that your helmet should be your top priority, pretty hard to race motorcycles with no head.
Arai definitely offers great helmets!! Pricey but extremely high quality for sure!

Money back, in route!
All your myths are spot on. I'll add Myth 6: you have to be a fast rider to get on the track. Regardless, your first track day, you'll be slow. Every first time track rider starts off slow. Myth 7: It's dangerous...... Honestly it's more dangerous on the street because there are more unknown variables (risks). Keep the great vids coming.
Thanks for that input!! Definitely agree with the 2 that you added, until you're on the world stage competing in the top 3 riders are you actually fast? Lol definitely safer in an area where everyone has similar goals and moves the same direction at relatively similar speeds.
Yes but buying a 1 or 2 peice just so you can ride the track is a good excuse as this is an expensive requirement
That's a fair point! I'd still argue it's totally worth it
@@JKMotoEntertainment oh I don't disagree with that I believe it's a investment too. So I agree with that just saying that this may be a financial stumbling block for some which could deter them. I'd like to do some track time and I'd like to be taught how to ride as everything I've learnt is from videos so I haven't have anybody to tell me if I'm doing it correctly or not.
Doing a track day and getting some coaching is definitely a great way to learn quickly and fix "bad habits" before they become full muscle memory!!
A lot I hear "I'm not fast enough to go to the track". Also a myth.
That's a good one!! Just not being ready as a rider or not being fast enough have definitely been thrown around a lot!
Most sport bike riders that ask me are concerned about cost for the day, insurance (as where I live certain insurance covers you for insurance on a track day for your bike, you just need to let them know up front that you will be attending one, when and with whom, as certain insurance companies only cover more well known track day schools) medical insurance, they don't like to admit it, but when they fall, they don't want to go to a state hospital but a private hospital ( in South Africa) they also scared of falling, even though they don't admit it, feel intimidated that there will be others that will make them look like amateurs (that will always be there, as you are surrounded by people with different skill sets, that are still developing their riding techniques and climbing the ladder) When I suggest that there are options to rent a track bike, and rent gear, should they not have the required gear, so they can feel comfortable and safe, they argument about cost comes in, and what it works out for the day. In the end, you can only take a horse to the water, you can't force it to drink. You can only provide people with the information, and talk good about the sport, so you can get them out there and experience it for themselves, even though they might not have the money now, invite them every time there is a track day being held, make them feel part of it, let them watch from the side lines, to see what they are missing out on. I know of several people that got hooked that way. All sports are expensive these days, and all have injuries, some less life threatening than others, but all require Benjamin's, as long as the persons interest is there, there is always a chance that they might, some day, end up doing a track day, even if it's only one, to see if it's for them or not. Some road riders where I live though, like to drink and ride, and that's a big no no at any track event, and those are the ones usually going around bad mouthing track days, I have found.
This is so much great input!! Definitely all good points thank you for noting them!! I agree that we can only do so much, in the end it's up to the individual. But I have also gotten several people out to track days by inviting them just to spectate, that often gives them more want to try it out. I think it helps it feels more attainable when they're there witnessing you do it!!!
2:59 even if your org requires/encourages basic bike prep, just learn how on TH-cam. For two years, I kept finding different reasons to delay getting on track. Bike prep/maintenance was the final mental hurdle. Something as basic as an oil change or radiator flush was intimidating to me. Finally told myself I just had to get over it and learn. Wasn’t willing to let fear of the unfamiliar keep me off the track. That was only a few months ago, and those fears seem ridiculous now.
Good point!! Definitely agree with that, there are plenty of resources out there now to help you through whatever hurdles you must find!!
In surprised that you didn't talk about the biggest myth or issue. Are track days safe? (I don't know I'm about to go to my first in a few months)
This list was based off the questions I've been asked the most. Surprisingly most people I've talked with haven't had any questions or worries about that. I agree that that's a good topic though, definitely safer to ride on a track than on the road!!! Enjoy your first!
@@JKMotoEntertainment really you don't get that question? I'm impressed, when I talk to people here in Mexico is usually either the cost or the safety of the event. I really enjoy your content so keep up
@@ricardomorales1039 most of the questions I get about safety come from non riders but the people with bikes usually don't bring that subject up. Thank you!!
Much safer to do trackdays and practice your technique than it is to practice the same things on the street. Everyone is going the same direction, no oncoming traffic, no oil/debris on the road (and if it shows up, they red flag the session, or they black flag the rider causing a potential hazard). Obviously, nothing is always 100% safe, but the risks are greatly reduced versus street riding.
@@jasonsarmiento3029 absolutely agree with that!! Also you're required to wear full safety gear, where on the street it's not always required and can be tempting on a hot day to ride unprotected.

There does seem to be a strong reluctance among sport bike riders to do trackdays. As far as I can tell, I'm the only one of 40 odd riders of my local group who has done a trackday. I find it all very depressing, as I used to live in Northern California and it seemed half of the riders had done at least one trackday. There's a culture, you know?

The excuse you don't hear is the elephant in the room. Most people think motorcycle riders are cray cray. Track day with double digit speeds is insanity to them. Most won't admit they're scared to death of it. Shit Talker Walker has more excuses than Carter has liver pills.
That is a good point, I guess those of us that are still speed demons just get to have all the fun!!
Hastings Nebraska is only 7 hours away from the west side of South Dakota and is more than worth the trip. You should hit Hastings on your way across the country and check it out.
I will definitely have to add that one to my list!! 7 hours isn't a short trip but not bad either if you're living in the Dakotas
Other things to consider, check with the track you are riding to see if they have db/noise limits (many private tracks have db limits). Some orgs/tracks do not allow helmet mounted cameras and if you mount a camera to your bike it must be safety wired. If you can afford a vest, wear one. Never ceases to amaze me how many people ride today with no vest external or internal. Your medical bills will be way more money than your bike repairs in a crash.
Thanks for that input!! Definitely true that personal safety should be at the top of your list at all times!!
I did my first track day on a stone stock 2022 SV 650. You can practically take anything to a track day and have a ton of fun.
That's what I'm talking about!! I've even seen full baggers out there having a great time!
can you tell me the clip ons size
50mm or 48mm
Which bike are you asking about?

You removed the valve core, not the valve stem, 🤦🏻♂️it would never hold air again if you remove the stem
I agree, thanks for the correction at the time I didn't see that as quite important enough to correct but you are right.
Went to the Bike master balancer website watched the video on the balancer you should watch this video especially where the location of the round collar is located on the shaft.Helps keep the cones centered.Hope this helps.
@@TimCovington-n8e appreciate that!! We'll definitely check it out! Always open to learning more!!
Dude, I'm 41 now. I've been riding for 20 yrs now, i own a '23 RSV4 (unnecessary at my skill level but fkt it) and haven't gone on a track day. I've actually been thinking that it's time to stop riding(daily commute on it) because i have a kid now but listening to you talk about bikes has somewhat renewed my interest in riding on track. I'll look around and see what i find here in soCal.
Hell yeah!! Definitely tons of options down there in SoCal! Lots of iconic tracks and tons of track day orgs to choose from!!!
So the cones go into the hub lock them down with the set screw then take the round ones and space them outside the wheels of the balancer lock them down on the shaft proceed to balance..That is the correct way to set up?
@@TimCovington-n8e that is correct!
The easiest way of dealing with tall bikes is to borrow a dual-sport bike for a few hours and practice tip toeing around with it. Once you've had that skill mastered (and it might take you just 20 minutes instead of my couple of hours) then that's it; you'll always have that skill. I almost feel the answer to every bike problem is "ride a dirt bike". I've ridden with short people who have dirt bike experience, and they all handle tall bikes just fine.
@@langhamp8912 that's a good point!! Dirt bikes are definitely taller and can help a person get used to that tiptoe feeling on a lighter option!
