Great idea to run a montage Pete. Your TH-cam channel and Facebook page one of a kind that’s for sure. Oh. I do hope I never make it into this video. 😂😂 Merry Christmas to all and stay safe out there everyone. Darrel RtB
Great montage, thanks for the add 13:49 cheers Rob
The key I reckon is to take the bare minimum, in the lightest luggage possible. Most of the time we’re riding, right? Enjoying that aspect - camping is just a means to an end, so why take a heap of stuff that weighs the bike down? Makes the ride less enjoyable? More dangerous off road? Ideally, I wouldn’t camp at all, but sometimes you have to!
We also like to take fresh ingredients like eggs, potatoes, onions, garlic, vacuum sealed meat for the first night, then also baked beans, tomato based sauces in packets, flatbread etc as we enjoy a good cooked meal rather than instant ones. The tuna and beans containers are good for on the go. Watch our videos to see how we prepare food while we travel.
Sounds like a great way to do it.
I didn’t know about the Heinz meals mate. Good tip.
Yeah, they are a good idea for a quick meal.
I'll keep an eye out for those Heinz pouches !
I find they are a lot tastier than the other options!
I add a cuppa soup pack to the noodles, bulks up the noodles and the soup takes up no space.
Great idea mate
Love your work Pete. I use the Carman's brand protein bars with the Coconut,Yoghurt and Roasted Nuts being my favorite. 5 bar pack about $7.50 which is good value. I also use the Ally brand Pink Salmon on Ritz Cracked Pepper biscuits or mix it into a rice cup/ satchel. Kabana cut up and mixed in with rice goes good to. To help keep things cool I freeze some of the Zooper Dooper Ice blocks &/or Hydralite ice blocks. Drink them cool and melted.
Great idea
Nice one mate. I don’t mine taking flat bread and a tin of beans. Flat bread packs in easy!! Just put the tin in the fire to warm up and bobs your uncle.
I get those Heinz packets. They are real nice. And I use noodle packets.
I do like the Heinz packs
Good idea for a video Pete, especially with the cost of living. I only have one of those Back Country meals in my panniers when I go camping only for backup. They do cost a lot of money. I do like your idea of the Heinz meals, I never thought of those. I am going to use my Jaffle Iron this summer. The bread can be a couple of days old and it won't matter. You can throw anything into them and cook on an open fire or gas burner. Darrel RtB
I'll have to get myself a jaffle iron.
Great video mate, I'm using the Mongar 2. 2.1kg not sure measurements but packs up small enough to fit in side bag. Set up, plenty room internal for a short arse like me, 210x135, I use a 100mm self inflating mat. Side entry both sides like the howqua's. It was honestly a coin toss between them.
I have the wolf walker tent (lone rider rip off) has heaps more room in the sleeping area, only downside is not having an opening at both ends (only opens at the rear of the sleeping area and at the sides) but as a person that's over 6 foot tall with a bad back it's a life saver not have to get as low to get in and out of my tent.
Good review Pete. I honestly thought that Lone Rider would be big enough for the Helinix Cot. I’m of the opinion I would use the bigger tent for a base camping and the smaller tent for touring. It has to be big enough for the creature comforts as you get older like the Helinox Cot. I run the MSR Elixir. It’s a 3 person but perfect for 1 large old guy.😂
Yeah I'm getting too old for the cramped tents now.
@ hahaha. Old, wait until you are my age.🤣
Thanks for practical demos of the three tents Pete! Im using the Kakadu II at the moment, cheap, easy setup and enough room for me for now.
Glad you found a tent you like.
Just saw the vid Pete. Nice day trip and a good place to check out. Just a bit further past the Queen Mary Falls turn out of Killarney is the NSW border and onto a GREAT camp ground called Cullendore High Country with some really magic campgrounds. Ask me about it next time we are talking.
@Talwyn71 will do mate
Great to see you and Tracee out on your bikes together.👍 If that is the new mic you are running it works a treat. Nice countryside.
@RideTheByroads thanks mate, no new mic, just post editing
Why the boring highway ? Boonah way is shorter and fantastic roads...
@SuperMythbuster the Boonah way is not small road bike friendly, with a couple of water crossings. We are going that way today in the ute to drive the Gorge.
I have gone from a GS1250 to a Tiger 900 rally pro could not be happier
Who cares? What language are you speaking? Learn to Pronunciate words with a English accent Please.
I don't like filters with the nut on them. As with what you have done, using a tool to tighten it is likely to leave it over tight. Filter should only be firm hand tight!
OR - It's easier to actually torque it poroperly using the socket to the correct torque specification.... I dont recall seeing "hand tight" in any service manual ;)
Thanks Pete, I honestly didn’t know that about the RPM when cold. You have saved me the time looking for the replacement filter, thanks mate.👍 Also I’m having trouble finding your torque settings on my torque wrench 🤣😂 Thanks for sharing this video with us. Nice job.
Have a look next time you start yours
Torqued to spec and new plug washer. Nice ha ha ha

The Tiger is a Big Call Pete. 🤣 I’ve had the same thoughts about 1250 and the 900 as I get older. The biggest trouble is mate we both have been so spoiled by owning the 1250 it is going to be hard to change. 🤔 Thanks for the review. Well done.👌
Hmmmmm I think motorcycle reviews maybe your true calling Pete Well done 👍
I have a couple of more reviews coming up
Great show thanks guys
Glad you enjoyed it
Haha DR650. 🤣 Thanks for placing RtB in the view at 23:08, nice one Pete.👌 A good mix of content in this video, well done.
Glad you enjoyed it
14:14 that was a sick burn mate 😂😂TBH Suzuki deserves it. Great ride and coverage of the event. Cheers.

LOL, I know, it needs to be a 2023 R1250GSA
@ 😳
For the hill assist, I’m pretty sure if you turn the auto mode off you can engage it by pumping the front brake twice. That’s what mine does.
@jjjjjjjjrifufjssjosskenf thanks, I didn't know that, I'll dive into the settings and poke around a bit
I went into the settings and found the right one, now it's back to where I like it....thanks
Good video. I should have bought the triple black off you. Thorn in my side not grabbing that
Well mate, I totally see your point about the GS, you know I have the R1250GS HP model 2021 and a couple of years ago I sold my 2005 R1200GS, talk about chalk and cheese. It's amazing what 16 years does in technology. I don't see any reason to upgrade to the 1300GS, mine does everything I ask of it. 👌 Thanks for sharing your BMW journey Pete, and enjoy your long-awaited trip to India. 🛫 Darrel RtB
Can’t help but notice the Brut,I’m an Old Spice guy 😊.
Awesome vid, mate. Earned you a sub. For me, camping was backpacking up a mountain range and motorbike riding was long trips to visit people/places (and commuting and running errands but they're not important). Nearest I had to motocamping was the Cold Kiwi Motorcycle Rally that I went to for a few years back in the early 2000s. Now I'm finally merging the two outdoors pursuits into motocamping. My camping gear's still mostly my backpacking gear, my motorbike is the GSX250R I use for work, travel, errands etc and I'm enjoying the fact I can go for an awesome ride then set up camp for the night.
@@wolf1066 Appreciate the sub mate, I'm glad you enjoyed the video
The grin says it all Pete.😁🤟 That looked a lot of fun.
👍. Cheers. In your option. What are the motoz adv like on wet roads please? Looking at a set. You can definitely see why you like that spot.
@holden3083 , they are ok-ish, just remember they are knobbies, I just slow down and ride to the conditions
Pete. Give Barry some new shoes mate. Those ones are $hithouse

@jakewilliamson thanks mate, check out my Facebook group of the same name
You have done a great job on this video Pete.👏 You can’t beat a good mountain range and water to go camping near. You are making me jealous and I can’t wait until I retire at the end of the year to go and do what you are doing, some solo camping.👍
@RideTheByroads thanks mate, I'm sure you will love the retired life
@@TheShithouseADVRider I know I will Pete. 🏍️🏕️
have the MotoZ Adventure on my Triumph Tiger RP 1500 K but that howling i until now never heard. Its louder than the former Heidenau TKC60 Scout but the MotoZ perfom far better on all surfaces specially off. THX and ride safe! Greets from Canary islands...
The camera position gives a real ride along view / feel to the video. Barry seems like a joy to ride and the note of the exhaust is just right for touring. Well put together with the audio. Love your work Pete.
@anthonylayt6188 thanks mate, appreciate it
Nice video Pete. Love the countryside, very green.👍
Thanks mate, it was a good time to ride out that way.
Beryl still in shed !
Deposit taken, just waiting for the new owner to arrange pick up.
Nice and simple. just the way it should be. Great intro...
Love the new intro Pete👌 I like how you packed the bike, I’m watching this and thinking I could do better in packing mine. I don’t think I take too much but there is always room for improvement. Love the RtB sticker placement. Thank you.🙏
Pete, when you set up your tent on the next trip, can you do a quick video of the Helinox Cot inside the tent to give a bit of an idea of fit. Thanks mate, Mongrel.
Hi mate, I can do that, but if you look at my Paddy's Flatt/ Rocky River Rd video, you will see how it fits in there.
@@TheShithouseADVRider Ok I’ll check that video out. Old age is leaning me towards a cot! 🤣
It was a game changer for me, a bit spendy, but I picked mine up 2nd hand, best purchase ever, my back thanks me for it.
The age-old debate on tyres. It's like you said Pete it's what you prefer and the riding you do. Thanks for putting this video together, well done. 👍 Nice placement of the RtB sticker.👌 Darrel RtB
@RideTheByroads thanks, so true, so many choices these days
Brilliant, great video indeed!!
Many thanks!
