Hasbro 84/Spengler Wand to Spirit Life Size or custom proton pack Electronics Adapter Interface
This is an interface I'm working on to allow you to take a stock Hasbro 1984/Spengler wand and use it to turn on/off the Spirit Life Size pack electronics with the wand without any soldering/modifications to the wand. It also has upgradeble LEDs that work with the wand so you can upgrade the LEDs in your spirit pack or use it with a custom pack.

If you find the power wires, couldn't just cut out the ones you don't need?
This is a great video I might need a bit more detail but I plan on getting this one for my son so he can have a pack with me
I have a a new circuit board in the works that will allow attachment of the 1984 wand with no modifications to control the spirit electronics.
do you have an update for your kit?
@@Guaranteed_JET Yes, I’m still testing and refining things and determining how to kit out things and what options to provide. Currently I have all the lighting figured out, and am working on the sound expansions. I should be rolling out another test revisions of the PCB shortly and then will probably start opening up orders once I get the basics determined. Are you looking for something that also does sound in the pack, or just the basic spirit to 1984 interface?
@@aaronmorris9352I mainly was interested in the interface between wand/pack. Inwould be interested in sounds. Im having issues with my spirit electrics. The gun and light are stuck on. It just keeps shooting and flashing the light.
I purchased the flush mount version of this kit, but I'm having problems lining up the mounting holes on the motherboard. Any suggestions?
@@brynthetech Yeah, it’s a bit tricky to measure everything and line it all up. I have been trying to come up with a solution to align a drill guide for the aftermarket boards, but haven’t been too successful yet. I can also provide a template that someone can print out to at least align the two holes, but getting the perfect alignment for where the holes are in relation to the mounts unfortunately right now is measurements. Some ideas I had were putting tiny magnets in the bolt holes and then having a pair of magnets to snap to their position when you put the motherboard over it.
How much for me to send you my spirit pack and have you do the same for mine?
@@KyleDavis-t4x I’m not currently doing commissioned work for these, but you might want to contact TerrorDogDesigns on Etsy as I know he’s done a few of these depending on requirements.
How much do you want for?
@@NoB8751. Oh I’m not selling this one as it’s my personal and development pack for my Etsy shop.
@ lol I know I wouldn’t sell it either I was just Kidding
Hello, you have a step by step on to install everything at all? just got my Pack and new to all this
I haven’t a created one yet as I was probably only one of the one people to do a DIY version of their product in a spirit pack. Now they have a “lite” kit that’s a lot easier to do.
Hey Aaron, I been watching your store for this mod to drop. Do you happen to have a time frame? Cause I think you are the only one who has a perfect solution to this connection issue. Thanks. 😁
Once out, are you going to release a video with link and a how to? I would buy the instant it came out if so! Really awesome -just bought my pack and was disappointed something like this did not exist so thank you!
🙌🏼 the Animal Batista
Any updates? I’m very much interested in ordering
Just got my prototype PCB in today and have already started doing some testing. Once I’m happy with that , I’ll put a small batch up for order. Probably in about a week or so.
Excellent
Awesome! Will pick up for sure. Only one question. How would I change the ring light led number? Through arduino?
@@DanteH1cks I’m working on that one, but most likely I’ll have some configuration option that people can update via computer or WiFi. I was thinking about making physical switches, but there’s probably going to be people who want different configs. I can also provide custom firmware for people’s different configs.
Awesome. Please let us know when you're releasing. Will this also have an option for an updated speaker?
@@DanteH1cksI put some parts on the prototype board to allow audio out for possible future versions. My initial tho if t was that most people are just going to use the stock spirit electronics/sound with the Hasbro wand to make the other sounds. But I do want to consider having a continuous idle hum.
About to do the same thing you did with the 3D printed wall box. Any chance you've got the STL uploaded somewhere like thingiverse or printables?
@@wegman8 Let me get that put up for you. I have it in TinkerCAD but will put it up shortly!
Any rough ideas when these might be available to purchase? A month? 6 months? I've been desperate for an affordable way to power my Spengler wand and life sized spirit pack with the same power source. I'll be jumping all over this as soon as you have them up for sale!
@@Sleikis I’m hoping about a month. I’m finalizing the hardware design and should be ordering test boards in the next week or so. I’m also still working on the software as I need to add additional options.
@@aaronmorris9352Awesome, can't wait! You mentioned in the video about adding integration with custom packs, would you happen to know off hand if there will be integration with the newly released Spirit life sized electronic kit from Frankengeek Laboratories, or at the very least if the wand might be able to draw power from the board with this?
@@Sleikis My setup would be intended as an alternative choice to his solution, and not designed to integrate with that. One of the limitations of using current sensing to work with the Hasbro wand unmodified is that you can’t really know which buttons exactly are being pushed, so all the extras like video game mode, music mode, etc, just wouldn’t be possible. But my board will have the ability to add your own LEDs and possibly even some basic pack sound. I may also add support for the stock spirit wand, although the main goal is to pretty much let the Hasbro wand handle the sound and just the board handle basic lighting.
@@aaronmorris9352 good to know, thank you!
Do you do commissions for proton packs?
@@sans8meme Not at this time, but you may consider reaching out to TerrorDogDesigns on Etsy, he’s done some of these for others.
Any tutorial planned for how to attach the alice frame? Is yours magnetic?
@@maddoglive I didn’t make any video on mounting the Alice frame to the motherboard, but it’s secured with 3 bolts and 3 spacers to the stock motherboard. I attached the motherboard with both the original screws and custom 3D printed motherboard mounts that I sell on my Etsy store. Regarding the wand to pack, I have a 3D printed v-hook I use on the pack that I also sell on my store.
What voltage are you powering the Spengler wand with? I'm working on something similar. I figured the wand wants 4.5v Do you think it would be a problem sending the wand 5.5volts? Cool stuff man! congrats
I’m using regulated 5V from a USB battery bank. I know the wand can tolerate that much. I’m not sure about 5.5V though.
Really cool build. What cyclotron lights You would recommend for Spirit full size with original cyclotron?
@@mikatikander2449 I think that depends on what your goal is, what electronics kits you select, etc. I’m making a board that will allow you to use a stock Hasbro 1984 wand with the stock spirit electronics, but will also have LED upgrades if you want. Otherwise, with GPStar the option is pretty much the Frutto LEDs or a LED ring.
Hi. I am gonna use Gp star kit with my spirit full size pack. I was wondering that does the frutto leds plug in easy on spirit cyclotron, without any dremeling, or just go with the Led ring?
@@mikatikander2449 It looks like they have 3D printable mounts to hold the Frutto LEDs on the spirit cyclotron. github.com/gpstar81/GPStar-proton-pack/blob/v5.3.4/develop/stl/pack/Spirit%20Full-Sized/Spirit%20Cyclotron%20Lens%20and%20Frutto%20LED%20Mount.stl Otherwise, the LED ring might be a good fit as well.. you can get a 45 LED 130mm ring for about $12.
Can you share that battery stl file?
@@KungFuCartoons Yes, I used these “batteries” with some M3 bolts and nuts. www.thingiverse.com/thing:3160060
🤤 me wants lol, wondering what the cost of that is going to be.
@@Guyverx117 I’m working on the PCB design now. I’m trying to keep the cost around $40 for the kit depending on options.
Oh man! That is amazing!
That is just amazing. Good work sir.
What tubing did you use
I bought from another vendor on Etsy but they also have them on GBFans.com
Did you make that panel?
Any chance you have the video of how to actually expose and remove the radio? I don't want to start prying dash pieces up and end up breaking something. I need to install an add-an-amp harness to my 2022 Sienna
I may on another one of my videos. I haven't owned the car for a while now, so I haven't been managing the content muuch.
How much would you say all the electronics cost?
@@YTY203 For this setup, it was around $200. GPstar just started offering a “lite” package that includes a pack board and a few other things that can talk to an unmodified 1984 wand for less now.
I found this video through your post on the Sienna forum. Thanks a ton. I actually have a Rav4, but you're giving me some great ideas. I'm going to see if I can fit an amp in the center console like you did. Thanks for filming this!
Really appreciate your videos! My pack just arrived today! Ordered the crank and bump upgrade!
Sweet, I am removing old audio system from my 2023 Tacoma and replacing the old amp with a 200.4 and adding a 500.1. I’m a mild audio file so I’ll be comparing these key amps to amplifiers that require math, test tools, and actual design work to see how much more efficient it is from an engineering perspective. I’m pretty sure it’ll be amazing and is a great option to get high end sound quality without the high end test tools.
I have a few questions if you have the time! Background - I was using a RF 500.1 with LC2iPro trigger on audio signal and using it for remote turn on. It worked great, so I bought an audiocontrol 800.1 and took the LC2i out of the mix. The second I did that it tripped the efuse and I got the dreaded shutting off message. So now im looking into doing a a delayed start with a resister for pre charge. 1) Do you need to take the resistor out of the circuit or was that just something optional? I can't seem to find a valid reason other than it becomes useless once the 200amp relay starts. 2) And this one is pure theory but with some backing but cant we just use the actual power from the penthouse to trigger the system relays? Meaning in my testing the penthouse shuts off when the car turns off... cant we just use that as the trigger source as well? 3) What time delay (in seconds) did you decide to go with? The crazy part for me is RF SHOULD trigger the the message as the audio control but the audiocontrol amp triggers the message even with the remote turn on not even plugged in. So maybe its an amp design thing but I think some amps dont even allow a charge up till the remote source triggers it. Its strange to think about it tbh. I have more testing to do but that seems to be the case given the audiocontrol triggers the efuse even when not asked to turn on yet while the RF does not. Maybe the caps are just that much bigger and I was "getting away" with it but still interesting.
Would it be ok to use a regular toggle switch to power it? I have a 1984 wand coming and I plan to put an a frame on the pack.
These mounts are so good. I did visit your Etsy store but you don’t deliver to the UK. Gutted as these would be perfect for me as I want to attach an Alice frame to my Spirit Pack
@@MFLuder2012 Let me change that.. I originally turned off international orders because Etsy doesn’t calculate combined shipping on multiple items and I had to cancel orders as I ended up paying more in shipping than I was actually making on the item.
@@aaronmorris9352that makes sense. Hopefully one day you will be able to ship internationally and I’d love to get them - - I just realised you updated the shipping on Etsy. I get paid Friday and I’ll be ordering them straight away
Got the '84 wand, proton pack being delivered tomorrow. About to order your motherboard mounts for it. Really looking forward to you wiring the wand in, as that's what I want to do as well, but the kits are pricey like you said. Hope you get it up and running soon!
@@wickedd365 I actually ended up doing a GPstar kit in the wand and DIY gpstar in the pack side. I have some other videos of how I did that as well. I fried the electronics in the 1984 wand messing with things, so GPStar was the only way to “repair” it and upgrade at the same time instead of buying a new wand again.

Class system , love the blue lights , very robust and expensive looking compared to today's rubbish
Would it still work on towers today?
This Motorola uses analog network and they are no longer exist in the US.
The cell towers this phones uses (1g or AMPS) has been shut down since 2001 in the US. You can no longer use a dynatac as a main phone
Very nice! Did you have to change the input voltage jumpers in the helix from 16v max to 32v max?
No, since on the SR+ you’re only getting signal from the up front computer which is 10v p-p and there’s no factor sub amp to pull signal from.
This looks great! I just got a ‘21 SR+ and I’d love to install this in my own, would you be willing to share some more details? Do the footwells turn off and on with the car?
Yes and no, they were wired into the 12V power in the center console, so as long as power is on to that circuit, they are on. Typically it does turn on when you open the door and sit down, but it also stays on if sentry mode is on.
Can you provide the 3D print model?
Sure, the STL is here in my GIT repo: github.com/aaronsmorris/3dprinting/tree/main/Tesla%20Model%203

Can this be connected to active speakers? I have Harman Kardon soundsticks 4 and Edifier 1280bts.
I bought a 0.7 revision one of these boards in 2017 and still haven't actually put it together. I have basically all the parts but never got it together... I'll be trying to build it some time soon.
Wow, that's a blast from the past. It's kinda sad that the whole community around these builds seem to have stopped.
@@aaronmorris9352 Sorry I think I meant 0.6 ... It's the slightly updated version vs what's in his latest documentation but isn't the Circuit Sword. IMO in 2024 I wouldn't bother building one of these again unfortunately outside of the build experience itself, there isn't much point when you can buy a pre-built Chinese emulator handheld for 40 bucks and it just works instead of having to mess with Linux and the inevitable downsides that comes with building your own device in a casing that was never meant for it. Or just hack a New 3DS and you're either playing natively or emulating everything a GB Zero would ever be able to do. The build was fun though. I'm in the "configuring and attempting to update an 8 year old Linux distro" stage at the moment. I may be bald at the end of this. Good build btw, and I'm not trying to knock anyone who did these builds (hell, I'm one of them) but with the power of 7 years of hindsight I just don't see a practical reason to build one of these in the current day, it would all be subjective reasons and "because it's fun" type justifications I think, which is totally valid, but, that's my theory as to why these aren't really seen much anymore. Oh well. I have mine. It seems to run and assuming I don't brick this upgrade it'll be a nice functional piece of a really specific period of time in homebrew/emulation history.
