This video is just meant as a joke. Yes, I'm being a whiny smart arse, but I also genuinely think the new Classic Doom update not having keyboard only support doesn't matter at all. This is a very cool, and impressive, thing for Bethesda and Nightdive to do for classic Doom fans. The fact they released it as a free update for everyone who already owned classic Doom in Steam is a super nice gest...

Pause exactly at 2:38 and you get the POV "the whole gang going like We gonna get yo ass! *drill rap starts playing* *worldstar watermark at the bottom*
Troglobites are cave dwelling animals. Troglodytes are cave dwelling humans (or also a doragotory term for an uneducated person).
Oh yum yum yum, that was friggin delicious, man! Yee shoutout to HOMM.. number two is my favourite but three also rules big time. 😎 oh lord, map15 next. That one’s proper naughty!
Ah, I see you like your HOMAM nice and old school :) 3 is just what I played most of back in the day. Many fun times playing co-op with my mates. And yep, next week we're into the "proper" half of sunlust...
Great run! And now i have to dust off my X-Ray Spex albums, thanks for jogging my memory.
Hey, no need to thank me, thank the revenants :)
Yasssss bfg yassssss. Every weekend you upload I get happy. Mancubian candidates sunlust uploads have trickled off, only one remains LOL!
Haha, well hopefully they continue for several more weeks. Once I get to map 24 though... there might be more than one week between sunlust uploads... we'll see.
@@BeefGeeTV lol bold man to speed run the Doom skill curve.
Well done good sir!
Great video
Hmm hows the introkits of legacy of rust going. Ps I had reach out to a handful of modders.
Haven't started anything to do with legacy of rust yet. I have to prioritise sunlust and now scythe 2 first.
A troglodyte is a cave-dweller. We had a troglodyte village in England until the 1910s.
A village full of troglodytes!? Cool! What happened in the 1910s? Did they all go back underground to avoid the great war? :)
I'm shocked you don't know Careless whisper by George Michael. I'm sure if you heard the intro Sax you'd probably recognise it. Also awesome looking map and a cool music track. Love getting double beef on the weekend :P
Seriously! I think Beef will facepalm when he actually hears it 😆
Oh... wow lol. Well yeah I am familiar with that song (who doesn't know the sax part) but obviously I've never paid any attention to the lyrics.
In Beefy's defence, I also didn't recognise the lyrics lol.. 😅
Think they were called Troglodytes. Oh, you played Heroes of Might and Magic? I only played 3 and 4.
I've played heaps of HOMAM3, it's a great game! Can't say I'm any good at it though, I just play very casually.
Keyboard only has always amazed me.
Very nice gameplay! I id imagine the difficulty of this one, yikes!
So this is why you stopped uploading Scythe 2 videos.... I'm impressed enough by the fact that you got the secret exit keyboard only (i was never able to do that). Are there any keyboard only demos for that? or no speedrunner ever do such things? And well, the reason I really hate this map is because it spoils map 16, and makes it completely pointless, luckily i did not find the secret exit in map 15 when i first play this in the 2000s (and was not aware of the existence of custom monsters, so I was really impressed by Mr. x)
Well, I got the runs you see in this video late last year I think, maybe very early this year. I spent some time going for a secret exit uvmax, but I realised months ago that it wasn't worth the time needed. I just didn't get around to actually making the video for ages now (slack of me, I know). I don't know about keyboard only runs. I might be the only person to get a keyboard only run which reaches the secret exit, but I doubt it. There are other much better keyboard players than me out there who've probably done it at some point.
well your runs were certainly "entertaining", that's for sure 😉 and i love how the marines drop clips despite being armed with plasma rifles 😅
yeah, one of dehacked's biggest limitations: you can't change enemy drops. The dehacked to turn the SS into these guys is quite elegant overall though. The colour change is just a flag you can set.
BLASPHEMY !!!!! I said You're most definitely qualified as doomgod. on your own way
well apparently I'm a "doom.god" for beating that puzzle map from scream.wad, and I'm happy enough with that ;)
I like the silent run because you can tell where you're swearing during it, lol.
lol yeah, I probably was. I wasn't using my mic because I was doing 100s of attempts trying to get the uvmax and secret exit run. The uvmax regular exit run you see in this video was actually just a "sanity break" from that. That's also why the run is kinda sloppy. I've done way cleaner uvmax runs of this map before but I thought one of the sloppy ones might be more fun to watch.
@@BeefGeeTV Appreciate that. I'm playing through FreeDoom and I was stuck on Phase 2 (Doom II) map 11 for two weeks. Dang. Phase 1 can be hard at points but Phase 2 is way harder, as it should be I suppose.
50th like 👍 😊
😅
Oh wow, great to see you getting back to Scythe 2! Will you be continuing the map roster? Yeah, this map in infamous for that reason alone! Though if you did finish this, the surprise of Map16: Mr X would be spoilt.
Yeah, definitely going to continue scythe 2 now. Need something a bit easier to play in between sunlust practice sessions :)
Now we need a war simulator with 10k ally DoomGuys vs 10k Evil marines
I swear I've seen something like that. There are a couple of Doom engine battle simulation channels knocking about.
@@BeefGeeTV I want to make a mod where there's a massive battlefield and you can join the battle or just watch and control the whole army, but the problem is that my modding knowledge is close to zero
@@Dondlo46 I think a mod like that already exists for gzdoom. I don't know what it's called but it has to exist, otherwise how do these other channels can make their videos?
@@BeefGeeTV I've seen these mods, it's just a normal map with a lot of enemies to spawn and watch, but I want to create something different, a megawad focused on that mechanic, with unique maps (including underwater, sky, forest, hell and lot of different locations), this might work well with multiplayer too. Now you got me hyped up, I'm going to start working on it soon
@@Dondlo46 Sounds cool! Good luck! Let me know if you finish it.
When I saw shock troopers in Legacy of Rust this map was the first thing that came to my mind. Those are a whole lot slower and squishier but still.
Any enemy that carries a plasma weapon is still pretty dangerous. But yeah, I think quite a lot of wads use massively nerfed versions of these guys.
Those run notes were pretty amazing. Looks like an absolutely insane map and potentially some of the inspiration for the new Plasma marines in Legacy of Rust. Well done on getting that secret exit. I don't think I could even with a mouse
I actually recorded the successful secret exit run months ago. I tried again recently and it was SO difficult. I must have been in the zone that day.
Glad you're continuing with Scythe 2 :)
Yep, scythe 2 playthroughs will continue from map32 soon now :)
I've beat this map before, but not 100% kills, that's beyond my skill level lol. Happy weekend!
Also I had no idea the secret exit door was timed to not open after 12 seconds.
it's roughly 12 seconds yeah. A similar trick to scythe 1 map 28 with a descending ceiling. Except instead of crushing a voodoo doll it simply creates a lower ceiling for the door sector, meaning it wont open high enough to walk through anymore. Pretty simply but clever.
@@BeefGeeTV that's neat. I think you'll be trying to do a uv-max no damage run on map 28 of scythe next after you finish map 27 terror since you likely know of a trick where you can keep the voodoo dolls from getting crushed in map 28 of Scythe.
Oh wait, that's pjplaysdoom, oops lol wrong person.
@@MobileGamingChronicles haha, well I do know about that trick anyway. You can linedef skip the line at the bottom of the stairs and the crusher won't start. You can build up speed against the pillar in the start room and skip it fairly consistently that way.
Make ALL attacks shoot exploding barrels lol!
I've only recently decided to give the keyboard-only style a try and I'm having a blast, even after nearly two decades of playing Doom Very happy to discover your channel and YEARS keyboard-only playthroughs, that's amazing! Thanks, and looking forward for more!
Glad to hear! Keyboard only is definitely way harder (needlessly so) but it does have it's own charm. It's interesting to hear it feels like a fresh way to play Doom after a long time. Most people just get frustrated, although that's very understandable lol.
@@BeefGeeTV it's also very portable and has a unique flow to it. If I play on my laptop, for example, I can either play it on the integrated keyboard or hook up a mechanical one or use the wireless bluetooth one to play from my couch - and that's just infinitely more options than a mouse, for example, because you don't need to move the keyboard around to aim, so once you can put the thing down and use it comfortably, you're all set. I changed the bindings somewhat a lot, though. Some comment suggested using different hands for movement and aim, akin to what you're doing, but I somehow never thought about that before. Right now I have all my fingers on the default QWERTY home row, which works surprisingly well because I don't need to think of the keys to press at all - my pinkies and thumbs handle most stuff outside the movement and shooting and it's the key position relative to home row that matters, not some mental mapping you typically see (like I for Inventory or T to talk, etc.). Definitely putting some of the more impressive WADs on my list to beat later thanks to your vids. I had played many of them before, beat some, but I'm eager to let them all shine in this new light. Happy dooming and here's to another 30 years of keyboarding!
@@jrknsOFF whoa, that sounds like a pretty out-there control scheme! But hey, whatever feels best to you, ofc :) I just use the default control scheme, except with Z bound as the 180 turn key and A + D as extra strafe keys for easy SR50-ing. So I guess that does mean movement and aiming are done with one hand, except for ALT being the strafe toggle.
I remember playing with keyboard only because it was one of the few games that you could get away with it because of auto aim.
I'm getting used to those instant turns around by now :D
I remember when I first started trying them I thought "I'll never remember to do these" and then very quickly they became second nature.
To this day it always throws me going into the jail cells at the start of Underhalls and only seeing one set of bars down. I got too used to that little part there. Frankly, it's a shame they edited out the bars because it makes it much clearer that section's intended to be a sort of jail. I get that the bars weren't obvious though. I actually got stuck as a kid playing this level because it took me a long time to figure out that those bars were interactable myself. Perhaps if they'd added a switch right next to the cell that triggers the bars instead (and a matching switch on the other side marked in the typical keycard red for the other bars), it would have solved it while keeping that design element? I think it's a shame they took out the "trap" doors in the waste tunnels (you're not fooling me Id, that's a sewer!), but all the other changes make sense, aside from that poor wall trapped shotgunner.
I agree, I preferred when the bars were there and your idea of a switch is way better than what they did.
@@BeefGeeTV It makes more sense anyway. They wouldn't make bars like that so easily unlocked right from the outside I'd imagine right? Not when they could reach right around... then again the demons apparently tossed the two some guns but didn't bother to let them out of their cells, so real world logic isn't exactly applicable in classic Doom in the first place right? I suppose id's not going to touch it when it'll screw with the speedrunners at this point, but I think they're all busy shimmying through that tight fitting pillar anyway.
Surprised there are no demonic dimmies in the big pools of soy sauce. 👀 nicely sorted, gg! Really love the midi in this one.
Dim 2: Simlust?
@@BeefGeeTV 🥹now yer talkin
"Might as well be walking on the sun" - mate, you missed the perfect Sunlust teaser trailer opportunity there! Will the cover songs make a return to the channel??
shit! The main reason I didn't do one for this series is I couldn't think of a song. The answer was right there all along.
@@BeefGeeTV would you be open to making one, say 'retroactively'? Perhaps it could be like a 'mid-season' trailer (which is the current trend in TV shows anyhow) to promote the series for those who aren't watching? Or, just to satisfy us who are waiting for your impeccable singing skills 😉 I'd definitely pay to see/hear such a performance 😁
@@inverse_of_zero haha well, maybe... I'm uploading way less because I'm pretty busy at the moment. So I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty unlikely. But never say never.
Imagine traversing an actual Skania trucks cemetery
that's definitely what they're referring to
a very fun level! I remember getting a Doom wad editor on a PC magazine in late 1995 and one of the first things I did was adding barrels and extra rooms and enemies to the existing campaign. I loved to design levels, it is an art, but I was poor and had no internet, my wad editors were fine but surely not updated 'cos some features were missing from what the game original maps did (things like triggering traps and other stuff I couldn't replicate compared to the actual game, also animated textures and so on and so forth)
Mad props mate, that lost soul pushing you into that linedef, nightmare fuel!
Yeah that could've gone very wrong, but it made for an exciting moment at least.
What’s the game at 1:41 ? I used to play as a kid
Commander Keen 4 :)
I played this back in the day on an old Mac, got this map off an old Dzone disc full of garbage and this is the only one I still remember. Back then playing on uv meant there were too many monsters to save your game, you'd get a savebuffer overflow and it would crash.
it is absolutly sureal that doom came out over 30 years ago. and even more sureal is, that is play it frequently till this very day. i think i will never stop. i dont think another game could me ever hit like doom. the orginal id team are like gods in eyes - cause they created a whole world! - a demonic realm of joy and gibs that i dont want to miss!
I like your channel
Thanks! Always nice to hear :)
I always played using the arrow keys on my keyboard when I was little in the early 2000s. Never knew about the WASD until I learned it back in 2008 lol
I played both Doom & Wolf3d with a mouse back in the early 90s
This is a cool concept, but would not be good for the less experienced or knowledgeable, since the way BFG tracers work is neither obvious nor intuitive. When you're wielding the BFG, if you don't understand how it works, the worst that happens is that it isn't as effective as it could be. If an enemy is using it and you don't understand the mechanics, you're apt to think it's impossible to win because you keep dodging the projectile but getting hit by an invisible force anyway.
That's a very fair point, but I mostly did this for the benefit of classic Doom nerds who do all know the mechanics by now. Plus, a lot of older games (like Doom but especially 16-bit era console games) did throw this kind of shit at the player and expect you to just figure it out.
i played it keyboard only as a kid. in the 90s
Looks like a fun map.
yeah it is. Would be really fun to speedrun I reckon.
It was fun to see the Spider mastermind not behaving, and see how you run damage control on it! Good job! :D
At least she was dangerous for once ;)
I can finally move out of the psychiatric ward. thank you
That spider demon just wanted to hang 😢
yeah she goes alright. She's welcome to stay as long as she wants as long as she's entertaining the imps.
She just wanted some love and affection :p
Another deathless run, good job🎉
yeah, the first half of sunlust isnt too bad with a bit of practice. these 'cave' themed maps especially aren't too bad.
Nah, fam, it ain't a "coincidence" unless it ends with a face-rocket 🤭
I c what u did there
I think that she deserves her own mechanic Linking into your pain idea I think that it would be cool if her magic attack disabled the gun that hurt her for 20 seconds
