Early Morning BNSF Manifest Crosses Curved Trestle (G Scale)
มุมมอง 4383 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a quick catch of my g scale pulling an early morning manifest across my curved wooden trestle. Note the lead unit is an old weathered Santa Fe Warbonnet with a BNSF patch over, pretty topical of the prototype. My second unit is a very weathered BNSF dash 9 with a burn mark down the side of the loco, which also seems to be the norm on most prototype older dash 9s. The third trailing unit...
BNSF Mountain Subdivision (G Scale) Coal Operations - Overview

Follow along as I provide this video depicting an overview of coal operations on my g scale layout. Watch as I load live coal loads into AML coal porters. Yes I said real live coal from Utah. Then chase a 24 car loaded coal train requiring 7 locomotives to pull the 240 pound coal train over the mountain sub. This operation requires the use of manned mid train helpers. Last but not least watch a...

I have many questions. Ive always been into model trains, but never outdoor. I did a simple google search and cant find any G scale modern equipment. Where do you buy your modern equipment and then is the track powered? If not its battery powered with an RC remote? Any gelp is appreciate even if you can point me to a website.

Knowing zip about your control interface, have you considered putting a radio-control tower at the top of your property that has LOS to the entire layout? (I'm a ham radio operator, KC9PZN). You could have micro HD FPV cameras on the locomotives to give a first-person view of train operation, even animating the engineer's head to look forward, back, down. (I used to do animatronics in Hollywood). IP cameras could be placed along the track for operating and 'railfan' videos. TH-cam channel MarioFPV for affordable DIY HD microcams. I would think you could precisely control the locomotive traction motors by watching the amperage draw and motor/wheel rpm.

You might consider putting the rotary dumper station uphill from the loading chute so it's a gravity reload. If I had one of your hopper cars and a section of track, I could build a scale rotary dumper with scale steel girders, a 1/8" thick steel chute mounted to 1/16 scale truck tires, with a vibrator electric motor to make the coal slide off. A gearmotor in the rail bed just after the rotary dumper, with a slowly-turning brush, could give the empty car a gentle push. I used to build dioramas. Diesel-electric locomotives are kinda boring to me because the family home is next to a freight line, with a turnout 30' from the bedroom I'm currently watching this video in, and a crossing 200' further along. Friends find it hard to believe I can sleep through four horn blasts and multiple whining-throbbing diesel engines vibrating the whole house. My friend gave me a (Buddy L No9 ?) 260 steam locomotive, tender, caboose before he passed away. I think the manufacturer designed it to be slightly off from G scale but I only got it for a model to scale up to build a 24" gauge smoker grill, with the tender car acting as a refrigerated bar. Grade can be assessed by the use of some clear plastic hose almost filled with water, to measure the rise over 100" of track. The water will be the same height at both ends. Working with 24" gauge we use garden hose with clear hose at either end. Really cool setup man!

Im a retired "C N. North America" engineer, Sarnia , Port Huron based. I really like the realism to your layout, your B.N.S.F. locomotives caught my eye because I was transporting them on a train from Sarnia to Battle Creek mi. Back in the 1990's, they were brand new and the envy on the railroads at that time, I was lucky because we were using the Canadian National wide cab and s d. 40 locomotives replacing the Grand Trunk Western Geeps which were pretty Old at the time but we still envied thise B N. Locomotives. Just thought i would share my memory of railroading.

WOW, where do I start? Have you ever heard of black lung disease? Coal dust is not healthy. What's the big deal about using real coal? Wheel slip damages your locos! Only 25 coal cars! You need two people to run your train! I tried to watch your video but ended thinking how ridiculous it all seems. I model HO scale BNSF, I run coal drags with over 90 cars 3 locos on front 2 in the back. Wheel slip is not an issue, does not damage my locos. I use black saw dust instead of real coal. Overall my operations are more prototypical than yours. How many times can you load and unload 25 cars before it gets boring. I run all the different types of trains on my layout. When coal bores me I switch to something else. I'm also not bothered by the weather.
