the coloration is called tortoise shell. neither parent looks especially peculiar. it's just a gene thing, such as calicos. Both parents are usually a regular black cat and orange tabby etc. It's not a super uncommon occurrence in cats, but less common than calico.

Rescue is the way to go. Molly has a step-brother, Gus, who is also a rescue kitty. And they both have a step sibling canine friend, Spencer, another rescue.

My girlfriend's cat is named Molly and looks just like this one. She's a rescue cat too! She actually got hit by a car. She's not the brightest cat, but she's got a lot of love. :)

I have a dilute tortie, and she is quite the home inspector as well! Cabinets, closets, and even drawers...once they catch her attention, she will not be denied until thoroughly checked out!

Unknown. She was a rescue kitten. Parents unknown. She had a sibling kitty at the shelter. We picked Molly because she didn't smell as bad. She smells fine now.

They're called tortoise shell cats and are not uncommon. They are beautiful and have great personalities. My friends have one and I love her!
