Twilight Princess's Tone is Misunderstood
Started with mg1 and 2 Good games if you approach them with the right mindset.
@11:10 I would like to disagree. I happen to have played the games only in chronological order - 0,kiwami1,kiwami2,3,4... And playing yakuza 0 made me fall in love with majima's character, with how he puts on that facade to make it seem like he is crazy
About Ishin and the characters’ replacements. Note that they went out of their way for to have characters from all of the mainline games that existed at the time of OG Ishin’s release (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). What they’ve done in the remake was basically the same thing. They needed this new version to have characters from all mainline games that came out by 2023. So they replaced some of the characters with new ones, from 0, 6 and 7, while at the same time keeping others intact. That way they now had Ishin Kiwami’s cast consisting of characters from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 0, 6 and 7. You can dislike this decision, but there is logic behind it
Slight correction: Kawara didn’t get a new actor for Kiwami 2. Susumu Terajima was his voice both in the OG Yakuza 2 and Kiwami 2 versions. It’s just that in the OG Kawara only had Terajima’s voice, while in Kiwami 2 he now had his likeness as well
a few new faces in yakuza 2 just look unpolished, meanwhile Sayama in Y2 looks like she's from a future game
16:47 A large part of why they made a kiwami remake of Ishin is because people kept asking for it. There was demand for it. Especially in the west. Sega said before it was simply too Japanese for a Western audience, and they said that there wasn’t enough demand regardless of whether it was an ideal fit for overseas gamers (their old reasoning but looking at it now, there was a LOT of demand). So no, it isn't out of spite of the Kurohyō or Kenzan game's (that game itself has story elements that sega would rather move away from). And also like all remakes of really old game, it would be a large undertaking to rebuild the game's from a new engine. Especially when some gameplay element's really are from a different era that may not appeal to a mainstream audience (mostly from the Kurohyo game's although I had fun playing them). So they would have to gamble putting these resources for a game they are not sure people would even want. I know people would. But from a business perspective, that's the type of question's you need to ask. Is the investment worth it if there is no loud voice for demand of the product?
I didn't mean to imply that they chose not to localize certain games out of spite, I realize that they chose Ishin before Kenzan specifically because of it being more popular and that's also precisely what I take issue with. I get that it's an important metric from a business perspective, but I think being thorough with making old games accessible is also important. While I didn't really go over it in the video, I don't think going out of their way to port Ishin to Unreal was all too necessary either, though I do empathize with them using it as an excuse to experiment with a licensed engine rather than only ever relying on their in-house engine. I imagine it also made porting the game to Xbox and PC a little easier. I'm certainly not all too knowledgeable about game engines or how difficult porting a game can be, but I know that Kenzan ran on the same engine as all the other PS3 games and they were perfectly capable of bringing all those over to modern platforms. Simple rereleases like those with a higher resolution, enhanced performance, and bug fixes are typically all I really want. Removal of licensed content is unfortunate, but ultimately a necessary sacrifice. I don't know the full extent to how much more vocal the Ishin crowd is than the Kenzan crowd, but I imagine most people who wanted one game would've liked to have both.
This was a disappointing video. You had the opportunity to discuss how RGG treated it's legacy characters, mechanics and games. I agree with the Kiwami part of the video, the original games should not be ignored when it comes to callbacks or rereleases. Same goes for Kenzan, Deadsouls, OG Ishin etc. Complaining about name changes and faces feels kinda less important than the other ways RGG ignores it's legacy. Tanimura is just gone, people from Kiryu's past games are often side-lined or never mentioned. The name rant especially feels disconnected from the rest of the video. Yakuza:Like a dragon is like a passing of the torch moment, transitioning from Yakuza to like a dragon. Plus games like ishin don't concern the yakuza in any way. Also Dawg, we dont need a flow chart , just say yakuza and like a dragon are the same series of games, it not as complex as you're making it out to be. Just because you personally don't like the title of the series going forward does not automatically mean that it is a bad change
14:20 actually Kiwami 2 didn't get a new actor for Kawara. It's the same actor except he's now face scanned just like his appearance in Kenzan.
Damn, this is news to me, thanks.
God I am so worried about Kiwami 3's possibility considering that the Kiwami games basically replaced the originals Great vid btw! Subbed
Great video 👍
don't forget about the amazon show calling it "Like a Dragon: Yakuza"
nah I was with you until the name rant, like a dragon is a sick name
Yakuza 6 is my favorite
“Likely dumpling intimate weaponry” the peak of jokes has been achieved, all other funny people need to pack it up (genuinely made me laugh really hard)
8:59 how is any of that dialogue transphobia?
@@suhsnow The dialogue isn't the transphobic part, her portrayal as a predator is. I wanted to mention it but I also wanted to minimize the potential discomfort the side quest would cause to the audience.
@@SpringdayAutumnmoon I haven’t played that yakuza game in a long time and don’t really pay attention to transphobic parts or anything like that in games because i like having fun.
@@SpringdayAutumnmoon also by the way the character is a Drag queen. Not trans.
@@suhsnow Okay, there's still overlap between drag queens and trans women, cishet ignorance typically doesn't distinguish between the two in their hatred, and they certainly don't deserve to suffer either.
I really like Infinite Wealth as a subtitle thematically but I wish it was titled Yakuza 8: Infinite Wealth or even Like a Dragon 8: Infinite Wealth. To me starting the series with 8 is like starting Metal Gear with MGS4 but not having the number makes it seem like a potential starting point even though it's one of the most context dependent games in the series lmao.
@@lightdotogam4734 Believe it or not, I actually know of some people whose first Metal Gear game was MGS4. Against all odds, they went on to become huge fans of the series.

Why did attack on titan catch a stray 😭

I love Yakuza 6
6:00 Ahh she said the thing But but seriously the first half the the video had me remembering this meme I saw of depicting YT thumbnails that go like “It’s over” or “He’s done” but the caption said “RGG with Kiryu for the last four games”
I started with 0, No previous Yakuza play before and just made me mad that he doesn't get more game time. Iam at Yakuza 6 now 😅😅(all on pc played)
Something to note is that the host club is referenced in Gaiden as one of the answers to a hostess, and it’s the correct answer.
I completely forgot about this, thanks for reminding me! I'm glad there's at least one part of the PS2 games that remains canon.
The comparison between Kiryu and Solid Snake is very apt. At this point, Kiryu makes Snake look like Kirby. That man needs a break.
Hey now, Snake never got a Yakuza 3. He's been bred for war and fighting them all his life.
@@backupschmliff1156 Technically, Snake did get six years between MG2 and MGS1 to have fun mushing. Kiryu had roughly the same amount of time to run the orphanage before Mirei Park stepped in and ruined that.
@@SpringdayAutumnmoon Forgot about that. Although, I still think Kiryu had it better. Though ranking trauma is kind of pointless lmao
Respect Kirby my man works
How is Richardson alive but Mine is missing Also Kiryu met Heihachi Mishima in a dream

“Metal Gear Solid V is a waste of everyone’s time!” No
you really did not like the phantom pain.
Hideo Kojima always a genius
U get sneiders codec relativly late because big boss is not giving it you on purpose
People praising MGS3D's control scheme are always super weird to me because if I remember correctly you couldn't peek up while aiming anymore which was super useful especially when lying in tall grass. The lack of this ability makes the game worse. Also, crouch walking was barely useful, the stages weren't really designed around it and for the most part you were still just as visible as if you were simply running around.
Any fan worth their salt should not be telling people to skip these two games. That is nonsense.
Honestly I gave up for now. The game is simply too annoying in certain aspects. 1. The fact that saves are only in elevators and 2. The controls that make simple tasks horrible. Example one the rolling pin is annoying only because the controls don't allow me to get to the exit perfectly and I stop at a wall or something and the pin hits me. Or the other example of the damn holes in the floor where I'm supposed to go arround them but if you touch the edge of the hole with one pixel you're dead and fuck you, now you lost 30 minutes for nothing. At the beginning it was fun and cool. Now it's not even fun anymore, it's just annoying. But hey, I tried
I had a really similar experience with the H&S genre! Tried DMC and similars and hated them, and years later Bayonetta made me a fan that loves Platinum games and DMC V.
I don't understand why remasters/remakes should *either* adopt modern mechanics (and alienate old players), *or* keep the old ones (and alienate new audiences), but can't do both. Just ask the player, something like "Have you ever played this game before? If not, we suggest using the modern mechanics", like Crash Bandicoot did. Aren't video games about giving the player agency and choices? The more choices you take away, the closer you get to giving the player a slot machine. (This may or may not be a reference to how Konami cares more about Pachinko than video games 💀)
This is why my favorite remakes are facelifts with a few tweaks and improvements here and there (Xenoblade Definitive Edition, Live a Live HD2D) and things that completely flip the script and give themselves the freedom to change whatever they want (FF7R). Either give no shits about faithfulness or give *all* shits.
That would be too convenient, and that’s not the name of the game
What have you got against peace walker?
I personally hope konami does NOT make a new metal gear game. They can make remakes and the most creative freedom they would have is remaking those old MSX games. Tying the stories loose ends, coming up with new controls, tweaking the scenario/bosses. Stuff like that. Actually i take that back. A MGR prequel and the Joy backstory game would kinda be cool.
No. Flat out disagree. The old controls are *objectively* bad. Devs were still adapting to newer peripherals having a standardized amount of buttons. Theres a reason they hardly deviate from the third person shooter control scheme now.
I dunno, I think the main reason devs don't deviate from the now established norm is simply because many people immediately throw a fit if they have to learn to press buttons differently.
Wait so this person exclusively likes just the tedious stuff in stealth games?
FYI, this person is a girl in case describing herself as a grown woman didn't make it obvious enough. Also no, she hates Peace Walker.
@@SpringdayAutumnmoon "this person is a girl in case describing herself as a grown woman didn't make it obvious enough" What does that have to do with the original comment lol, he said "person" no mention of gender, are girls not people?
@@TGP482 i get that, but they people don't typically say "this person" unless they're unsure about the person's gender or that's how they would rather be addressed. you'd typically say "this guy" or "this lady", the latter of which i wouldve preferred.
It continues to baffle me that the developers of MGS3D opted for face button aiming, when the option for gyro aim was literally staring them in the face
Unrelated but happy birthday, Ritsuko Akizuki!
I've heard that mgs 1 originaly was suposed to be a remake to mg 2. Maybe that's why there's so many gameplay/plot points taken from mg2.
I kinda agree with you. TP is not fully dark and edgy, it has a lot of lighthearted moments too.
This video should just ge titled shitting on mgsv for 20 mins
damn that sounds like a good idea for my next video
I got these games in the master collection and thought, might as well start with these, they're really short and it's an easy 100% achievement. I followed a video walkthrough for the first game and speedran through most of it. It was alright, mostly it was cool to see the barest bones of what metal gear was going to turn into. But man, I started the second game and got pulled into it. Going prone and hiding was the best addition to the game. I still used a text walkthrough, but I felt like I was playing the game because I was enjoying playing it, rather than just to get the achievements. I never play 2D games, but between metal gear 2 and undertale, I'm coming around to it.
Love the ethos from xenogears music
I'm glad someone likes the Xenogears music! Now if only someone appreciated the usage of Super Lesbian Animal RPG music.
When you play metal gear 2 solid snake you see how much was actually re used for mgs1 entire plotlines and story beats and task you have to do. Its just metal gear 2 solid snake is way better.
The reason Gustava is called Nastasha in the metal gear 2 recap in solid is because in original 1990 version of the game which I played once that was her name. It was changed with the subsistence release along with all the character appearances
