Hi, I am Jake and here is what this channel is about:
Since I was a young boy deep down in me there was and still is a tinkerer... And guess what, he likes to tinker. His dream is to build a wooden sail boat one day.
I know it is a really big project but I have a wonderful and supportive family and friends. Also I’m working full time and have lots of other interests like sports, travelling and house renovation so my time to tinker is limited. In this channel I plan to show you the progress of learning, planning as well as building tools. These little projects hopefully lead to one big project: my sail boat

How To Make A Homemade/DIY Table Saw From Aluminum Profiles And Wood
Good job! I want one these!! Thank's
I am trying to build one to cut nonwoven fabric because I’m disabled. Thank you for the video!
if your cockpit is flooded due to a capsize the low height of the centre board casing may be below the waterline making it harder to bail out, also epoxy can break down in sunlight so a protective coat of uv resistant varnish is advisable - nice work👍
Hi and thanks for his input! I have tried a model to see if this happens. th-cam.com/video/Xb6ET3IHhyM/w-d-xo.html&si=7CWBfa60VnL9Cu6d It should work quite well if the boat is not too heavily loaded or the swell hinders you from recovering. I think the part of the centreboard that is exposed to sunlight will be coated with clear varnish.
@@TinkererJake having watched your rather professional other video i must advise you that your membership of the venerable association of 'tinkerer's' is now under review, all drawings are preferably done on the back of a fag packet if non available an envelope will suffice, 'straight' lines should be incomplete and wavy, dimensions are not allowed, random numbers should be used, accompanied by the words 'approx' and 'say', decimal points are forbidden, i am away now to make a cup of tea and reconsider my place in society - thank you
@@IronCurtainTwitcher I'm having trouble understanding your comment. My irony detector doesn't come to a clear conclusion here.
@@TinkererJake ha ha! your boats are perfect yet your irony detector is a dismal failure, my irony maker is clockwork and i have to wind it up, sometimes it runs a bit slow😵💫
What you have here is a "center board", not a "dagger board". Dagger boards are lowered into place vertically. Center boards pivot up and down, fore and aft. Both of these definitions have nothing to do with the proportions of the board.
Thank you, that's good to know!
Hello and congratulations for your work, what software is used, sorry if this has already been asked. In fact I am looking for software that can do the Gorewood technique. (The third in your video).
Hi, for this project, I used the CAD System rhino3d (the test version) and also used it to make the unfoldings 3:48. Good luck and fun with your project!
Looks great, maybe i will try one myself soon. Any recommendations on software to design the sail?
Hi, I have used Sailcut CAD. It's relatively easy to use and relatively rudimentary, but it's free.
Hi, I think it took about 20 hours to build the machine.
I think the machine parts cost about 400€
The price was for everything together, including the v-slot rails, which I ordered from Poland.
The rails and connectors were about 200€
btw, you have good ideas, keep up the good work!
Add a mizzen. It helps balance the helm and windward performance. Then you can add a bowsprit later.
Many thanks for the ideas! I would only add a mizzen if necessary, as the boat will be very small. I think the idea with the bowsprit is great, you could also attach a gennacker to it later.
Nice looking dinghy. Not sure those benches will be useful and will probably get in the way of moving around the boat.
Übersetzter Text Thank you! Yes, I'm also not sure whether the benches will be useful. They are intended for the children so that they don't fall out :-)
Are you building a Cherub?
Cherub, Wave Dancer, Spindrift and others have a similar design, but this is my own version :-)
Beautiful! Looks great, Respekt 😎
That swan would have scared me. I have a family of swans swimming past my garden regularly and I can just be sitting still and the parent birds still take offence. I can't imagine what they'd do if I'd be in the water with them... When we moved here, after just a few days going outside, one of our cats ran into our house when theswans came by. Obviously had some experience as well..
Where is a swan here in the video? The swans here on our river are used to people in boats, if you don't frighten them they usually stay peaceful. Nevertheless, I always go far around them.
Is there a lot of upward flexion on the bottom of the canoe, seeing as it is one flat piece?
Thank you for the question! Yes, the bottom does indeed bend up a little, especially when there are waves. So far I haven't had a problem with it and have already done a few tours with the canoe. But I think a keel and possibly also cross reinforcements above the bottom plate would greatly reduce the wobbling.
Very nice! 😎
Mega. VG, Matti
Nothing better to kick off the weekend than some rudder and tiller constructing, love it!
Fantastic boat, fantastic video series and over all job well done. Are your plans available in dfx or svg format? Marty
Thanks! A SVG is attached to this video: th-cam.com/video/pz0cAEkyfa0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oESpP8X5fjUgJerw
Problem is ....almost all sheets of plywood are 2440 x 1220 in most parts of the world . Will this still fit on those shorter 2440 sheets ? 2500 is not standard.
Hello, I think that should work for the sheets 2 and 3. But not for sheet 1 (bottom parts), especially if the components are to be scarfed, in which case the scarfing area must be added to the end of the parts. But with 4 2440*1220 sheets it should fit. In the video description of the 2nd video there is also a file with the components as vector graphics, so you could also change the segmentation if necessary.
Yes looks like I will need 4 sheets total then.Thank you.@@TinkererJake
muchas gracias!
Dude, I can't wait to start making mine. Thanks so much for the plans
If I want to buy the whole mechanical setting from you how much it would cost? I need to make a CNC plotter out of it for the purpose of painting
Hi, I made this machine for my current boat building project, this one will not be sold. Also I dont have enough time to make a new one. It is actually rather simple to build, so why not making one yourself?
@@TinkererJake because I don't have the experience
I’m happy to hear about the free ship program. Thank you for sharing. Have you looked at how a bow sprit affects the performance? I don’t understand these design principles, yet. But I’m learning. I’m looking for a small sailboat design with a second mast that can be rowed. I’ve picked one that I like, but I’m always learning about new designs.
Hi, that's an interesting question. The problem with this boat is that the center of effort is too far forward rather than too far aft. A bowsprit would (as I understand it) increase the area of the headsail, which would cause the center of effort to move even further forward. This would reduce the weather helm. Good luck with your boat project!
Nice project! Is it available already? If yes, where?
Hello, I am currently still working on the plans. They will only go online after the boat is finished, as there will still be some changes. Whether the plans are free or at a fair price depends on how well they work 🙂
@@TinkererJake please keep is up to date. It looks really nice!
its great job.

You should be proud of yourself, young man, that is a very fine job you did. I watched the 4 videos on this build and I don’t know many people who would take on a project like that. Thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed the videos.

That canoe is awesome !
where's i can get this plastic Sliding Blocks Nut6 08:54 ?
Sorry for the late response. You can just google for "aluminium profil glider" or similar
Thank you for sharing. Looking to upgrade my rail rip capacity.
Congratulations. It is an amazing project and result.
Even though you thought it would take less time and money, I think 100 hours and 900€ is still impressive for an exploratory project like this, respect! Drop a comment if you do end up adding a keel.
Beautiful, well done!
Well done sir, nice video, easy to follow and well explained.
This looks great. I think I'm going to give this a go.
:-) I think you're going to have a lot of fun.

chrisfeldi cool project! Could you estimate the total material costs and do you think your design might be downsizeable? Guess its not only possible by only sizing it down to a certain percentage. edit: nvm, prices are in the first video. should have watched more carefully ;D
You can scale the plans to any size you like. I did the same for small paper canoe
@@TinkererJake That makes sense, thank you! whats the thickness of the plywood?
@@chrisfeldi 4 mm
Thanks for the plans...
