Hi Joyce, do you hike and backpack alone? If so, do you have any advice on safety from bears and camping equipment to buy? How long have you been backpacking? So many questions because I am new to Alaska and want to start camping and backpacking, as well as car camping.

were you ever able to figure out what the issue was with you're virago? Mine is doing the same thing.

Ignition Coils connectors maybe on the wrong side. Switch them then try starting the bike again. My xv750 was only cranking and backfiring until I switch the connectors.

I would put money on it being the cdi it's a common fault with these. I've only just fixed the same issue with mine

Yep definitely sounds like the cdi has packed up

sounds like the cdi (igniter) has packed up. like mine every now and then you get a cough....mine sometimes shoots a flame, as the cdi discharges the spark at random. If you still have this and still have the same issue try ignitech and if you fixed it what was the problem?

How you making out getting it to run?

If you dont know it your killing the starter. This bike (I have one) it eats starters. Check for fouled plugs, wrong gap, or just spark.

We have finally got the part off and are in the process of putting it all back together. :)

As many other videos have suggested we've hit the edge of the stator with a hammer, lots of times. We've tried to apply heat with a torch. Even with anchoring the puller so it cannot move the gear wheel, we just end up with the bike lifting. Suggestions would be appreciated!
