Quick Big Glide Bait Session for Spotted Bay Bass in Marina Del Rey
Back at it with the DRT Klash9, decided to run the south side of the main channel in MDR and conjured up a few good bass. Had about 4 hours to fish and got 4 bass. I'll probably be focused on trying to figure out another way to catch deeper spotties with big swimbaits after this.

DRT Klash 9 Fishing for Spotted Bay Bass in Marina Del Rey - October 2024

Another morning session in Marina Del Rey hunting Spotted Bay Bass with big swimbaits. Last time I was able to connect with a Spotted Bay Bass a little deeper than usual on a 9" DRT Klash 9. Why do you guys treat these undersized sand bass and calico bass sooo rough and really disrespectful?? Yah, most of these fish were undersized and "dinks"!! ... you don't need to flip these fish back in ... put your hand under their belly and just place it back in the water!!! You flip these small fish almost like flipping a coin back in the water while you're fishing from a KAYAK!! You are a foot from the water ... put your hand under their belly and place it back in the water & let it swim off!! Show some respect & common sense ... Bullshad just released a ABS version of their Trick Shad (so it may be hard to find) which I think goes for around $40, I have the resin version and it's the most stable glide bait I've ever used. Otherwise there's the tried and true River2Sea S-waver which goes for like $20. If you're targeting spotties I don't think they're that picky and any of those would work.

      Thanks for the well wishes. The boots I'm using are NRS boundary boots, they are waterproof and amazing, but they are like $120 bucks, which to me is expensive. For reels, I'm probably the worst person to take advice on, I'm using mostly freshwater Shimano SLX or Curado and I'm constantly servicing them at home because they get soo corroded and locked up. I buy bearings in bulk to replace them. Rods I build my own rods these days, but in general I use a 7'2" MH fast action blank with lots of backbone. For lighter baits I use a BFS setup, shimano zodias BFS rod paired with the shimano curado bfs reel with 10lb braid and anywhere from 8 - 15lb flouro leader. For my swimbaits I build my own rod, but it's an 8' Mag Heavy rated for 2-8oz, moderate fast action. And I pair that with a shimano Tranx 301, 65lb braid and 20lb flouro leader.

    Nice to see you back! Are you swapping out the TM or do you have one for each kayak?

      Thanks man, I hope you've still been fishing! For the TM I just swap back and forth between the two kayaks.

      Yeah my old town was my "buddy" kayak I reserved for friends. I decided to start using it for all my saltwater trips.

    nice, man. didn't realize you're no longer riding a Hobie?

      My Hobie is my freshwater ride, my old town is my saltwater ride. I get my Hobie tagged by the local lakes so I can't use it in between freshwater trips.

      @@cheethoe i see. generally speaking, which ride do you like better?

    • @cheethoe
      @cheethoe 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 Yeah they both have their pluses and minuses. I like the Old town because the hull seems more water tight and I can move the seat waaaay back so I have more space up front. But the rudder kind of sucks and there's a major lack of rails and storage areas up front. The transducer install area sucks too. Also for car topping the hull shape makes it super hard to get it on top of my car. Generally I prefer my hobie, everything is way better thought out, lots of storage areas, lots for rails, good rudder, the loader accessory, guardian plate for the transducer.
