I'm a doctor, but not *that* kind (I have a Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology). I’m a passionate weight loss surgery advocate because my own life has been transformed by bariatric surgery.
This channel follows my own weight loss journey and my continuing recovery from chronic illness (ME/CFS, POTS, MCAS), with the goal of encouraging others who may be considering weight loss surgery and supporting those who have already had it done.

7 Common Complaints About Ozempic and Mounjaro
Semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro and Zepbound) are currently the most effective treatments on the market to treat obesity outside of bariatric surgery, but they aren’t without their problems. Mark addresses the 7 most common complaints that users of these medications report. He approaches the topic from a patient perspective, having lost 70 lbs in the past 7 months with the help of semaglutide.

Weight Loss Surgery Won't Make You Thin

Weight loss surgery typically doesn't lead to a loss of all your excess weight, but it almost without exception leads to greater weight loss than any diet ever does. I have just been diagnosed with POTS. If you would be willing, I would love to ask you some questions and just have a chat with you. As I have so many questions.
"Anyone who doesn't have an unrelenting compulsion to over eat will never understand" that is so true. Had my surgery on 1st November. Tbh i do get doubtful if I made the right decision or not as i am having heartburn and pain in stomach but I love it when i get on the scale i have lost 28 lbs in 2 weeks.
Very similar to you. I just started compounded semaglutide. I was hoping that since I had GB about 4 years ago, I would be able to eventually stop the semaglutide. But if I have to stay on it long term, I am good with that.
I have POTS, too. I'm starting my saline treatment soon!
Getting mine done in a month thanks for your information
Thank you so much for the encouragement u share! And thank you for saying that we aren't a failure! I call myself a failure far too often! But for some reason u said it, I burst into tears saying thank you Jesus for this man to give me this message today that I soooooooo needed to hear!... May our Lord Jesus keep u blessed!!
😲
Wow! Just wow! 🤩
I’m glad I found you all. I’m going through many of the same things Mark has gone through. I’ve been in bed for over 2 years from a heart issue and gained my weight back from the sleeve surgery. I also have many of the same health issues. Now I’m about to have gastric bypass surgery to get my weight back down.
i feel fuller quicker but still get hungry through out the day been on ozempic fir 6 months and on the 1 mg for 2 months
I just had a revision and I know this is an old video, but thank you for it. especially your ending words. It's greatly appreciated.
I am 53 years old for the last 10 years. I really spiral downhill. I came to a point that it was already a path to self-destruction and it wasn’t getting better. I Got the surgery 10 days ago. I was 400 pounds and dropped to 370. So far it’s been 30 pounds. It’s not easy how people say to lose weight. It takes a lot of effort. I wish I would’ve done this sooner.
Finally! I have been saying this repeatedly- weight loss surgery can be great- but if you don’t deal with the emotional issues that fuel your “food addiction”, it’s not a cure. Mark, man, you are a very bright guy with a PhD in Anthropology- in human behaviour and culture- please find a “trauma informed” therapist and sort out the underlying issues. One in six boys in the US is sexually abused- and nobody talks about it. There are tons of other ways our childhoods give us damaging baggage. Therapy is very expensive and difficult- but so is what you are doing now. Best of luck.
I’m only 40 minutes into this video and I had to pause it to come and comment. I’m unspeakably grateful for this video. I was exactly like Tracy and was full of fear, but now I’m not. Surgery in six days. This was like sitting in a room with two people who loved me who were reassuring me and talking me through it. Thank you so much. I’m now looking forward to my life change.
How did you get on? 😊
@@annenittis6506really well!! 11 kgs down already. Rough first two weeks. I’m ok now 😊
I am using Mounjaro right now for my type two diabetes/ PCOS. I am a slow loser. 199 pounds now 183 pounds very slow. I used Ozempic first i did not lose any weight my appetite the same. Then my Dr switch to Mounjaro. Starting dose 5mg up to 15mg and back again to 5mg. Now i finished 7.5mg plus metformin and phentermine.Still183pounds.She recommend bariatric surgery but i am hesitant because i don’t have any gut problem. That’s my biggest fear is to experienced gut issues. I saw a bariatric Dr on youtube from Texas explaining bariatric surgery for type two diabetes and the complications of it in the long run scary.
Diabetes doesnt run in families, bad eating habits do which leads to diabetes.
Congrats to you BOTH.I AM POST OP 9 YEARS VSG OR SLEEVE SURGERY.I AM AGE 66 TODAY. It, SAVED MY LIEE AND MY HEALTH..I WAS IN MY UPPER 50'S ,WHEN I HAD MY SURGERY.ALSO IN NOVENBER OF 2015I HAD MY GALLBLADDER REMOVED .THEN MAY21 2015 I HAD MY VERTICAL SLEEVE GASTERECTOMY SURGERY..😊😊😊I ENJOYED THIS VIDEO..😊😊😊
The first thing that came to mind about 3 minutes into this vidroof the exact same response which is my biggest regret is that I waited as long as I did. I had GB surgery 10/12. My top weight was 365 LBS which sounds high but with my height and build most people would guess that I was probably in the 250s. How was 33 years old no matter how hard I trand how consistent my exercising schedules never could seem to lose AA reasonable amount of weight. I was never home bound and in fact I was a very very active person but I knew at that weight It would only have been a matter of time before health type issues we're gonna start to creep up on me. Almost 12 years later my weighovers between 200 and 220 LBS. I had a wonderful surgeon who reminds me a lot of a younger version of Doctor Now. I had no issues or complications of any kind after that surgery but I will say to anyone who decides on having excess skin removal surgery Understand that it is rough especially for someone who is not used to being Confide to a bed or a small sface during the healing process. Although my 2 separate skin removal surgeries both top and bottom we're not painful and and left me with few complications they were very hard to endure psychologically because I just couldn't shake the feeling that my body was now broken. I believe right after the gastric bypass I might have hadefend that Essen afterthought bit was very short-lived however the skin surgeries really were hard on my psyche. What's worse is that that the surgeries were spaced 6 months apart suit so it literally took me almost an entire year to recover. I don't regret any of the surgeries but I do wish that the plastic surgeon that I had been able to communicate things a little better And I wish I had been more Prepared. Also many of the feelings I had before the skin removal surgeries are still there. Body dysmorphia is a real thing. Pre-surgery I was always self-conscious and acutely aware of everypeople were touching whenever hugging me or brushing up against even though those rolls have long been removed I still am acutely aware of my Phantom rolls which sounds weird but not uncommon. I used to see pictures of myself felt shocked at how big I was and now I see pictures and think the exact opposite however my brain is still permanently fixed on the fat me which no longer exists. And yes my biggest regret is waiting as long as I did.
how do you get on the shots?

im dealing with acid reflux now and its really taken a toll on me emotionally... i was never told about this either which also makes me really frustrated but i guess we'll see what happens.. :( im only two weeks post-op so idk hopefully, something can be done about it without needing more surgery
Any of you got times on your hands write me a letter and I love mail! Iam home bound with feeding tubes gikhg everywhere and uv pole so I'm sorry
I regret having the Gastric Bypass because iam only 42 & just landed on hospice from Gastric Bypass complications..
I'm so sorry to hear that, Jessica. My heart genuinely goes out to you. What types of complications have you had? I want my viewers to be aware of the potential risks of the surgery and reading about your awful experience could be helpful to others.
Most people don’t lose 50-80% of excess weight btw.
Do you have a nutritionist? You have serious food issues which most of us have. You need to eat mostly plant diet. Little animal food is fine.
There are some serious downsides- cost, stomach paralysis, lifelong dependency. One procedure is endoscopic fundus ablation. It removes gherelin producing glands.
Been on it for 4 months and I shit my brains out every day all day and have to vomit like twice a day. I think I’m done with it. I’ve only lost 12lbs and I barely eat cause this stuff makes you not hungry. I read it doesn’t work for men as well.
Thank you so much for this. I really needed to hear this today.
Hi I just had my bypass 3 days ago. I already started feeling cold and actually had some chills for the first time today. Thanks for the video that was very helpful. I’ll be in touch to talk more about my progress.
Hope it's going well! The first few weeks are always the toughest. And please do keep in touch about your progress!
Almost ready to schedule the Sleeve…..not sure why the shots isn’t a better alternative if the food noise comes back after surgery
Love your wife…bring her back 😊
H
I enjoy your channel and you just seems like such a wonderful couple and you're so patient with each other and congratulations on your Weight Loss journey together as a couple. Chronic fatigue is a sickness within itself .. stress !!
I was on Ozempic for about 5 months I lost zero weight and was sick the entire time. chronic gas and stomach pains it was horrible for me. it took 3 months after stopping for the side effects to go away and some haven't gone away at all. I wish it worked for me but it just was awful for me. glad to hear there are success stories for some folks.
Thank you Mark I’m 10 years post op and have had a revision from sleeve to bypass back in 2017 and only have gained 15 pounds since my original surgery in 2014 just never met goal ..
Please, please also stress the importance of eating healthily. You can be thin and still very unhealthy.
Yep, I'm saying it again, an advert for the pharmaceutical companies.
Mark, did you have pots and chronic fatigue before weight loss surgery and did you have Covid? I have chronic fatigue, mcas, eds, dysautonomia /pots since being hospitalized with Covid and I am now finished with everything I need before surgery, but I'm terrified wls will make my symptoms even worse. I have spoken to some people in my wl group that said the surgery made things worse. I too haven't driven in 4 years😢
I know I've never weighed 300 lbs but I'm curious as to being okay with 182. I know you said losing to 160 and gaining back to 175 you would be okay. I weighed 193 at 5'6 and in the process of getting to 145. My goal is to go to the doctor and not have "obese" written in my file because at 185 and 5'6 I am obese. Hopefully, I will get to 145 to 150 and maintain it. I was small as a teenager. Weighed between 110 and 115. Does it bother you that at 182 your doctor will still label you as obese? It drives me nuts to know someone who wouldn't know my weight loss journey and saw my file stating I'm obese it's like flashing red lights in my mind. Congratulations though on what you and your husband have accomplished so far.
ill take feedback
if you had two bone on bone knees like i have due to 50 years of hard work i would have more respect for you
I’m doing it without surgery
Dumping, is sugar or hard food
