@@Shopgirl1 almost every insurance covers it if your weight is affecting your health such as sleep apnea diabetes really high blood pressure and underlying heart disease
Thank God I had this done in 1983! I had 5 kids, divorced and my Doc said “are you sure?” Experimental it was then and at 330, I said I’m not worth a dime as a super fat mom. So He kept me alive. Youngest growns are 46!! I’m 180 from 330. Still too lardy but at 77 who cares?! Hallelujah fitness.
May I ask which surgery did you have . And how did you deal with after surgery complications? How did you manage weight because I am worried about regaining weight. Thanks
@@umsaraweyosef gastric bypass. Theeee b e s t thing I ever did as Gods Grace has kept me here 771/2 years. I was a 330 pound spectacle!! Back 45 years ago there weren’t so many morbidly obese as are now!!!! Plus the immodesty of huge women wearing skin tights is embarrassing. Come on Oxempic, surgeries or ANYTHING that will keep a body as God created it, sleek and healthy.
You birthed 5 children and you were probably depressed from your divorce. Weight gain is understandable under such circumstances! You are not still "too lardy" and nomatter how old you are, many people care! ❤
I had gastric bypass surgery in 2003. I lost 152 lbs. and have kept it off all these years. I lost almost all my hair within the first month and it only grew back half as thick. I didn’t have too much loose skin in the beginning, but now that I’m older, my skin is losing elasticity by leaps and bounds. I didn’t get dumping syndrome but I could no longer digest any dairy or animal products. But I avoided the foods that I had to and was thrilled with the results. I didn’t have any severe problems until 2017 when I developed a bowel obstruction, intestinal hernia, ulcers and an enflamed gallbladder requiring emergency surgery and a week in the ICU. After this surgery, I had bad problems with digesting my food and have to take enzymes and ox bile salts. Sometimes I feel like I swallow more supplements than I eat food. I struggle with alternating diarrhea and constipation and vitamin deficiencies as a result. Also, I developed osteoporosis. But I refuse to give up. Sometimes I wish I had never had the surgery in the first place, but there is no way I would still be here if I didn’t. WLS cured diabetes, bone and cartilage damage and strokes. So for those who read this far. Take heart. I could have developed all these conditions and not be here to write about it. And if there’s anything this experience has taught me, it’s that time with quality of life makes life worth living. I wouldn’t have had these last 20 years without WLS.
I'm so sorry to hear about all of the health issues you've suffered over the last several years, but I'm so glad you're still with us. I wish you the best of luck as you continue to struggle with your health.
I know this video is 3 years old at this point, but came across it since I am getting my bypass sooon (less than 2 weeks!) and have been looking into a lot of videos to feel some reassurance and listen to what other patients have to say about their experience. This has been by far one of my favorite videos so far. You sir, moved me to tears with your words. I am now much more happy about my decision and ready to give it my 100%. I hope you and your wife are living the healthiest and best version of this lifetime!
I feel you. I’m having a revision of the gastric sleeve to the bypass next week due to severe acid reflux. Nervous….. this was unexpected. But my surgeon says the bypass takes care of any acid reflux. Hoping for the best. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
@@ELchambelan bypass basically "cures" acid reflux, that's why i went for it instead of sleeve (also because generally bypassed individuals dont have revisions, and i was afraid of having to go that route, hopefully it's gonna be okay for u)
Sorry for the slow reply -- I haven't checked comments in several months. Thank you for the kind words, and I hope the surgery went well and you're doing great! My wife and I are still doing well. It's been five years since our surgeries and I've kept off 160 lbs and she's kept off about 125. Best decision we've ever made!
"Being obsese is not a moral failure" as a 28year old who has become obese after years of trauma, and is hopefully getting surgery this year, those words have just changed/healed something within me. 😭😭 thank you ❤ This whole video is amazing and super helpful. I am so ready now, thank you.
I haven't checked my comments in about six months so I'm just seeing this. I have no idea where you may be on your journey, but just know I'm rooting for your success and wishing you happiness and peace no matter where you are. You're worthy of it.
Actually you can’t diet or exercise enough to lose bunches of weight, especially if you have a terrible diet. At some point you have to figure out what works for you. I was about 100 pounds overweight. I finally faced the facts that hoping, wishing, and praying wasn’t going to do it, I was going to have to figure it out. So I radically changed my diet on March 6, 2023, quit eating junk food…no chips; no home made bread; no peanut butter/jam; no homemade goodies; and I stopped eating NO MATTER WHAT at 7:30pm. I started fasting in order to begin feeling what real hunger feels like, and of ALL the things I did, I believe this alone has had the biggest impact on my weight loss. So in 11 weeks, I’ve lost 43 pounds! That’s about 3.75 pounds every week, along with walking for 35 minutes EVERYDAY!! I feel great, and am so glad I’ve made the changes I have. A few more pounds and I’m half way to my goal, which is AWESOME!! If anyone is interested I watched two doctors on you tube explain, what is going on in our bodies when we eat, and why our bodies store fat to begin with. And they explain fasting. It’s another option for those of us who’ve tried EVERYTHING, and it’s working for ME!! I’ve been watching Dr. Sten Ekberg, and Dr. Jason Fung. Good luck to everyone on their journeys.
I've seen many videos by these two...also Eric Berg and Ken Berry. I have been a faster for most of my adult life before I knew it had a name (intermittent fasting.....never had breakfast or lunch) but I'd gained a lot of weight despite that, after having my kids and eating too much late at night. I cut out all sugary foods and all snacking, and had nothing after 7pm, plus no alcohol. My weight started melting off fast, and I am now 90 lbs lighter, from my original weight of 224 lbs. I still want to lose a bit more but 90 lbs loss so far has made a massive difference to me, both mentally and physically.
Im.down 35 from intermittent fasting. One of the best things about it, I had to learn to make better choices in my window. Im not a volume eater. I noticed i needed to make better choices with food selection, and carbs were one of those things that I just naturally pulled back on. They don't keep me full.
I watched a doctor that talked about people that lost a lot of weight & he said these people need not consider skin removal surgery because he said every 3 months your skin goes into a renewal process, it is slow but over a period of time your skin will tighten up on it’s own. That’s a better option than painful & expensive skin removal. Just thought I would add this in the comments to help anyone who is considering that route. Good luck & God bless.
love your video! i am close to 5 years post op gastric bypass surgery, started at 402 am down to 136 but am under weight need to get back to ideal weight at 147. Best decision i have ever made! Went from size 34 to a size medium. had plastic surgery that Medicare paid for due to rashes, etc. Just wish i would i would i have had the surgery a lot sooner! Keep up the great work!!!
I was not morbidly obese, but my blood pressure was sky high, cholesterol over 385, triglycerides over 1300 & became diabetic. I lost 100lbs, and take no medications, all my conditions have been normal fir over 20 years! I had a gastric bypass, and it saved my life!
I had my gastric bypass surgery in September 2023. Hair loss is real ... I too regret not having surgery sooner. One complaint I have is chronic constipation. Advice to anyone considering WLS ... There is no way to fully prepare yourself for what post op will be like. You can attend all the support groups, etc. that you want. Every person will have their own "what it is really like" experience. I'm not trying to discourage you. I just want you to know that it gets real after surgery. Best wishes to all on weight loss journeys. ❤❤❤
Everyone's journey is so different. My wife and I had surgery about a month apart back in 2019. She has been able to keep most of the weight off pretty effortlessly, whereas for me it's still a daily battle. I even had to start semaglutide last year to reverse the weight gain I was experiencing.
Thank you so much! I needed to hear EXACTLY what you've said in this video! I am in process to get a gastric bypass and am about to attend my first pre-op bariatric class. I am extremely nervous and have been going nuts thinking about the "what ifs". You have made a difference in my day and I just wanted to say thanks Mark. Can't wait to watch all of your videos:)
Go ahead and jump through the hoops of modern day CYA lawsuit happy folks. You drop that lard and your self esteem and competitive spirit will set you FREE! God made us in His likeness and image. Not some huge fat glutton. Tasty foods like sugar and carbs won’t shut our chops!😛 But bariatrics acknowledges us as sick. And they are 💯 % correct.
I regret my surgery daily, I wish I would have never done it, I’m 6 years out, I’m tired all the time, I take my vitamins daily, But I always feel weak.
@@mrs.Itiswell I know this is a lengthy post but I feel it is important to not skip around. I have been through the wringer and back so I really want to help others see at least some problems that were unforseen. Although surgery may be a fix, way down the road there can really be no road map and that is why I am going through all of this. I had Rouen Y surgery. I did pretty well for almost 8 years. From 8 years til now has been like a nightmare and it was not because of the surgery. About 10 years post surgery things went way sideways! I fell off of a building that I was on top of working on some rooftop equipment. I dropped about 14 feet straight down, hitting feet first, knees jammed into the wall (shattering my knees) and the velocity brought me straight down to the ground, jamming my tailbone into the asphalt, breaking my back - creating an 8mm shift between L3 & L4. I worked with breaks in both ankles, shattered kneecaps and a broken back. The only treatment offered was 10 days of vicodin. I worked after the 3rd day full time until I was medically retired by Social Security Disability last year. Yes, I lived in pain 24/7 for 7 years. There were small stints between knee replacements, ankle surgeries, etc where I was able to be given pain meds. In between times, I was surviving on Ibuprofen (by the handful), Tylenol and to sleep at night Nyquil. On my 50th birthday, I celebrated with a trip to the ER because I could not breathe. As it turns out, I had an ulcer (from all of the Ibuprofen) perforated and nearly bleed out internally. After 5 days in the ICU, 2 units of blood, I was discharged to med surge unit. We have literally tried every pain therapy short of opioids but nothing works! Since the Government is between me & my Dr. I cannot take pill forms of pain meds. (You go through spot checks, pill counts, UA's to make sure you take pills only as directed...or YOU ARE A CRIMINAL and meds get cut off!). It matters not that some days are horribly painful you only get what they say and that's it! So for treatment of my pain there is no option that provided relief until a year ago. I was put on a one a day sublingual film called Buprenorphren/Naloxone it is what they use to ween Morphine/Heroin addicts off Methadone. At least I have a level of pain that I can live with. Fast forward to today and cause & effect issues: when I had that bleed something happened in my body. Even though I eat only 1 meal a day, I gained every bit of weight back even though I am bypassed! We have tried many things to try and shed the weight. It felt impossible! Then, I was introduced to the concept of Keto and Intermittent Fasting. I cut my carb intake to about 20 carbs a day and fasted 20 hours a day. I finally found a way to regain some control! I lost about 100 lbs in 98 days! I had, however; messed up very badly with my nutrition. I never really followed my B Vitamin regiment they wanted at the Bariatric Surgery Center. It didn't show a dramatic difference (or so I thought). Well, after retiring last summer, I started getting surgeries on my feet to address some problems. As I have tried to get literally back on my feet, and now I have no strength! I cannot stand well or walk for more than a few minutes! I feel like I am going to fall over when I walk. I have severe nightmares, I get sick after I eat so I skip mealtime often. My feet feel like someone is driving a red hot spike into my foot. This all pointed my Dr. to determine I have severe B1 & B12 deficiency and I now have a condition called Beri Beri, which is depletion of B1. Some people call it pernicious anemia. The best I can advise anyone contemplating Bariatric Surgery, PLEASE learn about Low Carb - High Fat - Moderate Protein lifestyle coupled with scheduled fasting. I have always been a meat and dairy lover, and I love bacon, butter, eggs, cheese - all very good on Keto Life Style. I am now working with others on this manner of eating and how it can even reverse type 2 diabetes! I now must take a lot of vitamins. I take 20,000iu D3/day, I take 500mg B1 2x a day, I take B12 Sublingual drops 2x a day ("Pure Thera Pro" is the Brand (I get them on Amazon) - I chose the Pure Thera Pro Brand specifically because it has the best, most absorbable types of B12 [methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, adenosylcobalamin 1,000iu ea 4 drop dose]) I take Folic Acid, Zinc, Magnesium as well. Some of my symptoms are better somewhat after 2 weeks of vitamin therapy: Edema in ankles, Neuropathy pain in my feet (which I used to treat with gabapentin - and gabapentin is a B Vitamin inhibitor) B vitamins have stopped that pain!!! The edema is better but still very concerning to say the least. I suggest checking out my favorite Dr. when it comes to Proper Human Diet and his name is Dr. Ken Berry. He and his RN wife Neisha have over 1,200 videos on everything from Autoimmune Diseases to Weight Loss through Proper Human Diet. We have tremendous power available to us outside of Bariatric Surgey! I admit, I was far too casual about learning everything I could before going through the surgery! Life has been an up and down journey! I implore you, try alternatives to bariatric surgery. You can empower yourself! PLEASE TAKE THIS MESSAGE TO POINT: There is a ton of help right after surgery but years down the road...you have no idea where you will be, what Dr. you might have, what insurance you may have. Ask your surgeon this: Are there long term aftercare specialists? How long Term are we talking? If I wish to follow up with any Bariatric proffessionals where I live now, I have to wait a month and drive 2 hours. That is a very big downside! There are tons of other issues that I have not touched here as well! I pray for all of us! We face a lifetime of difficulties no matter what we do from here! God Bless You! I pray you are well!
Thank you so much for your post. You have been the best spokesperson on bariatric surgery I’ve listened to. You are covering all of my concerns in a clear and honest way. Much appreciated. Best wishes on your journey from Australia.
Will never have the surgery to lose weight just eating low carb now but due to arthritis and badly needed knee replacements can't exercise much so profress is slower. Have lost over 100 lbs. Its an uphill battle. Have about 50 more lbs. to go. Will do it, it just takes time. Good luck to anyone who chooses to achieve better health. It's not easy no matter how you choose to do it but well worth the effort nonetheless.
I’m so glad I found you. This is exactly what I needed to know. You’ve allayed a lot of my fears and the reservations I had about bariatric surgery, this was so informative, honest and unbiased. I’ve been struggling with which surgery to go for but you’ve made that choice so much easier. Thank you so much. I’ll be watching your other videos soon. God bless 😊
I lost 105 pounds since my gastric bypass surgery 16 months ago and its the BEST THING I EVER DONE...I have hypothyroidism and i could NOT have lost weight any other way....I'm so happy my surgery was great...and yes my only regret was not getting it sooner...thank you so much steven kelly from Christchurch new Zealand bariatric surgery you are amazing ❤❤❤
Hi, I'm glad to find your comment since I also sufer from hypothyroidism for 15 years. I'm at the point where WLS is my only opportunity to lose weight, but I'm afraid I'm going to get it back because of my thyroid problem. Have you had any problems or complications with your thyroid after the surgery?? Have you been able to keep the weight off? Thank you so much, and I hope you are doing well.
My wonderful husband was months away from death when he had (Roux-en-y) gastric bypass in 2001. He weighed 500 pounds. We met after he had lost about 100 pounds. He plateaued at 310 for a few years but now weighs 235. He has zero regrets. He had a badly done body lift and tends towards anemia; infusions take care of that. Sure, he can't eat cheesesteaks any longer, but when he craves one, he'll chew it for the flavor and spit it out (a very private activity). At restaurants, he always says that he enjoys ambiance more than the food. A lot doesn't taste better than a little, and he avoids the dumping sensation at all cost. Several family members had the sleeve procedure and all have regained the small amounts they lost. It was the right decision for him, and I thank God for the years we have had that would have been denied him without the surgery.
My sister ended up anorexic after her gastric bypass. Ruined her physical and mental health. None of the doctors who pushed her into the surgery would do anything for her after. She shrugged and told her not my speciality. I only do the surgery. Once they have your money they don't care.
I'm so sorry she has had such an awful experience. Mine has been very different. My surgeon continues to offer support. I have yearly follow-ups with him (and more if I feel I need it) and they do a monthly support meeting for all of his patients with members of his staff where we can share both our struggles and our successes. I'm genuinely sorry to hear that hasn't been your sister's experience; my heart goes out to her.
I have heard different things, some good and some bad. The BIGGEST falsity I hear is I would have died without it. I can understand a 500 pound person thinking this, but no doctor knows when you will die no matter what. I have worked in nursing homes. The reason you do not see many overweight older adults is people as they age usually have a diminished sense of smell and taste. This means larger people will in all likelihood lose weight. They won't stay obese. My mother was 200-plus pounds her entire life. At 78 she began to lose weight. No medical reason. She is now 82 years old and is very small. She has diminished appetite because of her age. If someone is just looking at her, they'd say "Well, you never see obese older people". Well she was one and just got older. No other reason for her weight change. She became a diabetic at 50 years old and even with natural weight loss, she still is diabetic and progressed to insulin.
Hmmmm, dont judge all physicians by your sister growing into hating food and body fat. She actually had that before, but would binge and feel guilty, so she got the surgery to help her be anorexic.
@@donnaleeclubb119 Many of the statements that you make are incorrect. Plenty of obese people die long before they would even be close to going into an age community. As far as your mother and diabetes, the sooner that you can get your type 2 diabetes under control the more likely you are to not have long term complications, and to not have insulin resistance stick with you for the rest of your life. Possibly if she were to get thinner earlier she may have been able to avoid the whole insulin thing all together. Peace to you friend and your dear mom.
Weight-loss surgery saved my life! If I had known about the carnivore eating plan, I wouldn’t have needed it, but I am 12 years out and I have no regrets!🥰
I regret my gastric bypass and I have for over 20 years. First, I came VERY close to death and was in a coma in ICU for a week. Second, the GI side effects are daily, constant and debilitating. No one wants to wear adult diapers and be confined to the bathroom for the rest of their life.
I bet I know what your life is like. My heart failed in 2001. I was in my 40s and I developed COPD. Life like a regular person was over. But wait, fate had more. In 2005 I diagnosed Cancer...and I was right. Its uterine and operable. But not for me. My heart is too weak for anesthesia so the cancer will kill me. My oncologist gave me seven weeks of daily radiation. Nope didnt kill the cancer but it did change my life. No bladder or bowel was meant to be radiated like that. The side effect is living in the bathroom. Ive had public accidents. Im still trying to kill the cancer hut at this point...I dont care any more.
@@queenbee3647 I want you to know someone cares about you and I am hoping you can heal from this. I don't want to presume that I know what you should do, but I hope you have received good medical advice.
Thank for this awesome video. I really appreciated your description between a regret and complaint that was a good point to make. I also enjoyed your informed discussion, honesty and sense of humour.
This was very interesting. I've never found anyone who's addressed post-surgical problems or regrets. Godspeed to you on your wife as you continue your journey to a healthy lifestyle.💖
They really should. After it happened to two friends, I realized there's some really troubling statistics about substance abuse and weight loss surgery. One didn't make it.
What a wonderful fella you are. I’m now 65 and soon to have surgery. I’ve never eaten junk food or sugary drinks but I still eat too much hence I am overweight. I weigh 125kGs and my target is 100kgs. At that weight, I’m still technically overweight but I would be ever so happy. I’ve subscribed to your channel. Thank you so much. A well wisher from Western Australia.
Best of luck with your upcoming surgery! It's so wise of you to set a realistic goal weight. A couple of years ago I got down to about 100kgs but I honestly think I looked and felt better at 110 (I'm 6 feet tall). I've put on more than a few since then, but I'm on my way back down and should be back there by April or so. Thank you for subscribing and for watching -- means the world to me!
I am 1 year out now and have lost 158 lbs. I don’t regret anything. I love my new life, and my new freedom. I wish I had done it a decade ago. I want to loose another 40, but I will be satisfied with another 25. Now that my 1 year mark has come I’ve noticed that I’m only losing 3-5 pounds a month now. It’s a slower pace now. I’ve been told that if I have the loose skin removed I will reach my goal quicker. But I have done this with zero health insurance. Completely out of pocket, so the skin removal will be out of pocket too. I refuse to buy new clothes other then underwear. My clothes are baggy and hang off of me. I just tie them up and pin them. I’m not buying anything until I have made my goal. My ppl laugh at me, lovingly. I love that kind of laughter it feels good for the right reasons. My big shirts now double as nightgowns. And most my pants are draw string anyways. I love my new found problems, if you can even call it a problem. I love my new found freedom.
I'm so happy to hear about your success! The weight loss definitely slows down after the first year, but should continue at a slow and steady pace till about 18 months. Keep up the good work!
This was the best video i have watched recently, specially knowing between regrets and comments. Now i am quite ready for my surgery this Thursday 14th January. My nervousness has gone down by half now thank you so much.
Thank you so much! Best of luck on Thursday. Just a heads up, the first few days are going to be rough, but then it gets a little better, then it gets a lot better, and then it gets amazing!
Thank you so much your last word touched my heart. “ being obese is not a moral failure “ I wish people who stigmatized me saw that. I wish my own primary doctor who was supposed to know me better and my health problems wouldn’t make me feel bad about my weight because I am not doing enough in her opinion.
I live in Canada and I talked about it with my doctor and she gave me a lot of negativity about it . Which sucked. Why wife doesn't want me to do it. But I feel.like this is my only choice. I'm 1.74 cm and I weight 295 pounds. I can't seem to control myself with the over eating. I just don't know what to do. My wife just says to me "all u have to do is stop eating " as if it was that easy. :(
You have to fix your eating before getting the surgery. The surgery can fail if you don't eat less. I really don't get this surgery, it's so dum, just eat less amd do the thing without becoming a forever patient and wasting all those resources on doctors. It's so unbelievably dum. They only offer it because it's so profitable not because it's necessary
I agree. If I had had it done in my 40s instead of waiting until I was 54 my entire life might have been different. If you follow directions, you can keep the weight off. I did. I went from 267 pounds on a small-boned 5'1" frame and now 14 years later, I weigh in at 118 pounds. Complaints: my butt gets sore when I sit longer than 20 minutes even with a cushion or a memory foam cushion! I can eat almost anything except dairy products but only a little bit of food at a time. The RNY gastric bypass was the easiest surgery I have ever had and I've had 13 surgeries in my life! Regret? No way! It was a lifesaver! My diabetes disappeared completely. I went from 3 shots a day and 3 oral meds a day down to nothing! My arthritic knees don't hurt as often or as much.
Here is the opposite there is a whole community about complications after weightloss surgery and nr 1 surgery people tend to have regrets about is the bypass because it ends up needing more revisions because of ulcers and such ( The Netherlands)
I had a gastric sleeve done about 7-8 years ago. I told my surgeon that I had a long history of kidney stones in the right kidney. After the surgery, I found it even harder to drink enough water/fluid, being prone to these stones. I am having a nephrectomy in a few weeks… and not excited about that. I was up to 265 and my lowest was 145… but I’m at 178 now. I was happy in the beginning, especially with no longer needing many medicines. I also feel cold, especially my hands and feet. I just wear socks most of the time! Except for my kidney issues, I’m basically glad I had it done.
Sorry to hear about the kidney issues, but glad to hear about the benefits you’ve seen. Hope your nephrectomy goes off without a hitch and your recovery is quick and complete.
Thank you so much for the encouragement u share! And thank you for saying that we aren't a failure! I call myself a failure far too often! But for some reason u said it, I burst into tears saying thank you Jesus for this man to give me this message today that I soooooooo needed to hear!... May our Lord Jesus keep u blessed!!
Thank you for this video it’s encouraging. I’m 33 right under 300 pounds about 270-280 I think. hope to get back down to 180. I was encouraged to get the sleeve and I had second thoughts and one at the bypass but my surgery center is saying that the sleeve is now the “gold standard” and the bypass more for risky and used in more severe cases. Hope the sleeve ends up right for me. You look awesome
I was 29 when I had my sleeve at 272 lbs. I tried everything and the sleeve help me so much! I got as small as 128lbs. That was too small, but I couldn’t stop the weight loss and I ate healthy and stuck to my healthy pre surgery eating habits. I am at 165lbs and love this size just working on toning up. Did I mention at 33 gave birth to my son. I am now 37 years young!
I had the sleeve in 2011 was doing good basically on protein shakes and liquids and then as soon as I started eating the weight came back. I'm now 6lbs over my starting weight and I regret wasting my time with surgery. Should've just went to therapy and figured out why I am this way.
@@purpleirklegrovestreet right after surgery I lost it quickly by liquids and protein shakes. No exercise maybe just some light walks after work. Years after I spent in and out of gyms and boxing and still gained. Now I'm stuck mainly because I work remote and not getting enough movement in my day. So the smallest amount of calories makes me gain.
Happy New Year, Mark! Great video. I’m having VSG on 1.18.21. This video really helps calm the nerves...I think all the anxiety I’ve had, the fears, etc is part of the process of saying goodbye to old ‘ways of eating’ and understanding a huge shift is going to occur in how I think, eat, etc. I’m so glad I postponed my May surgeon visit to October-these extra six months were HUGE learning months for me! Best to you & your wife-I’ll “see” you on the other side with my tiny tummy!!!
Glad to hear you haven't been rushing into it, and congratulations on your decision! Best of luck on Monday. The first few days will be tough, but know that it gets better quick!
I’m scheduled for surgery 1.21.21 and I’m thinking about waiting until after COVID to really make up my mind. I don’t feel that I am ready for the lifetime commitment just yet. I need to be 100% sure and I am not there.
And the end of it just made me cry i am thinking about this surgery for a year now but i am afraid bc i am young and i strugle with eating disorder but i hate living the way i live so thank you for giving me the push to do it
I wish I had done it when I was much younger. I was over 300 lbs when I graduated high school and spent the next nearly 30 years getting heavier and heavier despite my best efforts. Don't rush into surgery, but don't be afraid of it, either.
I’m having my surgery in two weeks 5/15. I’m not really doing it for health concerns as my health is pretty good. My blood pressure was great. My A1c is like a 5.1 or 5.2. Overall I’m healthy and I am just hoping I’m not making a mistake and then I’m gonna end up causing myself to have health problems that I don’t have now to get excess weight off so I can breathe better, sleep better and live a longer life for my child and I. I’m having the sleeve. I Hope it’s the right choice
It's been nearly four years since my wife and I had our surgeries and we haven't had any health problems as a result. It's been a huge blessing for us both.
Just had Gastric Bipass! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm 45 now and I thought about in my twenties and thirties but let people talk me out of it. What you said at the end really spoke to me. The people agianst the surgery have never been 590 pounds yo yoing back and forth 100 pounds at a time. I realy did give it my best shot before choosing this so they can get on board or get out of my life!
So good to hear your honest feedback. I’ve been to see a surgeon and filled out the questionnaire but I’m having second thoughts. I’d say I’m 40 pounds overweight.
If you're only 40 lbs overweight, I'd probably recommend looking into semaglutide (Ozempic or Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro or Zepbound) rather than getting the surgery. I was struggling with regain after the surgery and now I'm on semaglutide and it has helped me drop about 70 lbs so far.
Hi I just had my bypass 3 days ago. I already started feeling cold and actually had some chills for the first time today. Thanks for the video that was very helpful. I’ll be in touch to talk more about my progress.
Thank you for showing us your point of view, iam 28 and over 320 pounds, iam considering gastric bypass to be able to improve my quality of life and be healthier and be active with my 2 kids
In hind sight I wish I got the surgery for I was around 300 lbs at 30 with a wife 3 kids and everything with it by time I was 40 I was 330 and by 50 got to highest weight of 349. Dieting I could down to 275 then I would stall on weight loss and I would fail my diet and go back to 330. I'm 67 years old now had right knee replaced 3 times in past 24 years. A stent and cardiac ablation in past ten years back surgery last year. And I'm getting gastric sleeve soon for all pretesting done and I'm 67 years old I lost 50 lbs walking 3 miles every other day and intermittent fasting I'm down to 280 and stalled as always at this weight so hoping and praying I can use the sleeve to get below the 275 mark. I was 205 when married at 22. I can think of many reasons to get the procedure at your age for my health issues totally from trying to live as a 300 lbs plus weight man. God bless and good luck.
My brother weighed 485, and lost 100#s and had the Fobi pouch bariatric surgery in May 2000. While he had some issues getting used to it, he is a success. He's over 6 feet tall almost 80 years old and weighs between 185 and 195#s.. He would have been dead, as he took so many meds, and his health was precarious. Today he's out doing metal and wood yard art he sells at craft shows and outdoor markets. He drives all over the Western US. Works every day outside, and is rebuilding a car right now. Am so proud of him.
Hi im seven weeks op from having the gastric sleeve, and i now get dumpling syndrome everyday. I am miserable, and i never eat anything sweet, don't eat to fast, or overeat. I guess that i am just one of those unfortunate ones that has complications. 😮😮😢😢😊
I’m 50 pounds overweight and I am losing by following an anti inflammatory diet. The heartburn and migraine was enough for me to try it, and I feel a lot better too. Anti inflammatory diets are temporary and may help you find out what is irritating your gut by eliminating and slowly reintroducing foods. It’s amazing how a bad gut will everything off balance, including cravings and chronic/autoimmune health issues.
Congratulations on your success! I followed an anti-inflammatory diet for several months but unfortunately it didn't help me with my chronic illnesses, but I've heard it has helped many others improve their health so I'm all for it.
@@SprintingSlowly I’m glad to hear you tried it, it isn’t a cure but it sometimes helps with some of the symptoms and irritation that certain foods can exacerbate in those with chronic illnesses. I have found out that caffeine, sugar, alcohol and processed foods bring extra discomfort and irritation in my body (also sleep disruptions, mood swings, constipation and bloating), so now avoid those with the exception of an 8 ounce cup of coffee in the morning and no more, which doesn’t seem to cause any issues. It’s different for everyone.
Hi Tammy! I read your comment and am looking ing gastric sleeve. I can loose weight but never seem to be able to keep it off😢 How are you doing on your anti inflammatory diet? I dont want surgery but feel its my only option. Have you had good progress?
Of the 9 people I know that have had it ALL have gained back at LEAST 50% of weight at 10 yrs post surgery and some up to 80%. All lost hair noticeably that HASNT grown back and some went grey. We are now concerned w early dementia beginning in three of them that had surgery over 10 yrs ago. We are following researchers studying the possibility. Any comments would be appreciated. My daughter is 32 and over 370, but we are concerned about long term results from those we know, and now hesitate to schedule surgery. I wish she would do it earlier if she will choose to do it later as many
You have to figure out how to get nutrients any way you can. Dehydration is the worst. It messes up your teeth when you have dry mouth *and* less nutrients. You have to take collagen!!!! Like freeze dried collagen. The real stuff. That will help your hair and it can grow back once you stop losing weight rapidly.
Its dangerous, people that just had the surgery aré happy, but I wonder what have to say those who have done it 8 years or More ago..... Those testimonies Im interested in...
It is absolutely essential to get B12. I do injections monthly and have been doing that for 30 years. Your stomach will not absorb vit B12 supplements.
My biggest regret was that I didn’t get extra skin removed. I think we all need to take care of our teeth. For gastric bypass patients. My teeth are really going downhill from not having the nutrients they used to. Strange I take more vitamins and eat healthier now. Good luck to everyone.
I don’t know that they’ve figured this one out yet. In my support group we recognize that our teeth have all suffered but there doesn’t seem to be any research or warnings. I lost all of my upper teeth but I would have the surgery again in a minute. I got implants- all good.
@@sueholdener4135 all we have is each other. Physicians are fucked in the head. All they want to do is make $ they don’t look past their nose. Just gimme that cash
Thank you for this video. I'm pregnant with our last baby, and I'm researching what options I have after this sweet baby comes. I have struggled with my weight all my life due to polycyctic ovarian syndrome. I do 1 meal a day, (except while pregnant, I do 2 and a snack) try so hard to watch portions, count calories, yet I can't ever get a grip on things, and I want to be healthy for my children. It's a miracle they are here, and I want to live long and watch them grow. Your video really settled my fears. My sister also struggles with her weight, (yep, whole genetic family does) and she wants the sleeve. We have been talking about going and getting it done at the same time so we can support one another in the process.
Getting the surgery with my wife has been a huge benefit. We've been able to support each other and understand each other's struggles in ways we wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. She has maintained a loss of 120 lbs, and I've kept off 115 and am starting to lose again. Best of luck to you!
I would think that aggressively teaming up to find the best method for each of you to manage the PCO before jumping into weight loss surgery. Yes, there are good outcomes, but there are also possible negative outcomes. Hormones definitely impact our entire systems. Good luck
What were the forums you mentioned? I haven't fully decided on the RNY type surgery yet and hope to ask people apart from the healthcare industry for independent feedback to my questions. After a lot of searching, "Bariplastic Social forum" I can't find nor, "Bariatric Bypass" forum that you mention at 1:51. Thanks for a very nice video!!
Thanks for all the information; it's an interesting video. I'm right at the beginning of the process, and my dietitian told me that after the referral, I will get invited for an initial assessment, which also involves a session with a psychologist basically to see if the surgery is the right thing for me and kind of also prepare for the life after surgery..... I mean, what do they ask there, and how can you convince them that, yes, you are ready for it since you have already failed all your diets before? How do they believe you this time? Do you get my point? I mean, I learnt how to eat healthily, what portions and how often, and I lost some weight like that, but after a while, I got back to my old habits and earned back even more. How will the psychologist get convinced that I won't start eating junk food after the surgery at some point again?
My wife and I had all the same concerns about the psychologist visit that you are having. They'll likely be someone that sees lots of potential bariatric patients, and they are trained to recognize the spiral all of us are in--that we've tried and failed and tried and failed so many times to lose weight. They'll be able to tell you're ready to change and they know that the surgery will enable you to make those changes, and I'm willing to bet you'll pass with flying colors.
Well done for having it done .it's not easy l.had my done 8 years ago and have never look back but you still have to work with it it's not a magic fix 😊
In my experience, I got this terrible bubbly feeling in my gut after drinking milk or eating like an ice cream cup (which is cheating...) but if felt like my system flooded my guts with fluid to help "dump" the lactose and sugars.
I think alot of people regret it because so many people gain the weight back because the real problem was that they had a food addiction and never really dealt with it.
Yes even Dr nowzarden added counselling to his weight loss program. You have to deal with the addiction, the need to eat differently for ever, and then the surgery and its effects.
@@joywebster2678There's a similar series of British origin called "Fat doctor" where it's more clear they have the therapy. They also have more details about the procedure and interviews with the doctors (though some perhaps find it gory when showing details of the actual surgery). And they also have some support community with people who have gone through the surgery.
that won't work read the research, once you stop dieting your weight comes back on. Weight loss surgery permanently lowers your metabolism while dieting won't read the research, i did
@@teresaosburn8840 Not for everyone. I was 224 lbs at my biggest and have lost 90. That was 2 years ago. It has not come back and I guarantee it will not. Fad diets don't work and whatever you do to lose weight has to be sustainable, so ask yourself "Can I do this for the rest of my life?" If the answer is yes and you do do it for the rest of your life, then the weight won't come back.
I guess patients would need to change their diet. But that isn't so easy when they 'can' eat. After surgery they physically can't. It's a tool if you will, when food is an addiction. I had to have sleeve surgery because of a tumor.
Excellent information! I must add " dumping syndrome" will be a cause of our own doing. We know to eat slow, fatty foods and food full of sugar are not an option anymore. If we follow the guidelines then we should be fine. ❤
05:32pm I am getting ready for the surgery. Im 65 yrs old and yo yo all my life. I have not seen the surgeon yet but I have everything except 2 visits with dietician then surgeon next month. Im having the sleeve. My biggest fear is getting the water in. I have a very hard time drinking enough water.
@@karenvalek7002 ..oh ok. I know some people who use weight watchers and they really like the support of the others. They have zoom calls going all day every day to pop in too. Also the book "overcoming overeating" is wonderful for emotional eaters and other types of things.
I take a multivitamin and calcium twice per day and B12 and D3 every morning. That regimen has kept all my levels in the normal range for the past four years.
I wish the root cause of obesity could be resolved. Because bandaid approaches for long term issues do come with side effects. Do you think that over eating is possibly due to some nutrient deficiencies?
Root cause of massive USA Obesity is the food is NOT REAL. Unless YOU grow Your food organically from heirloom seeds/raise livestock organically and COOK IT, then it's REAL. Fat People in USA used to be sometimes a genetic anomaly. There was money to be made in the old days by *"THE FAT LADIES of the CIRCUS."* She might have weighed a mere 300lbs compared to todays fat standards. It's way too many fat people now to where it's being normalized. For the record - _Normalized_ is NOT *NATURAL.* Now more than 65%-75% of USA people are fat/morbidly obese not just from greedy gluttony only. Factory-Processed pseudo-foods & Genetically Damaged/GMO Fruits, Vegetables & Livestock are deliberately lab-made to make people fat. Even when many people diet & exercize as properly as they can, they still have trouble losing weight and keeping their weight low. As to why USA foods are NOT exported to other Countries. The food here tastes lousy compared to just 25+ years ago. I grow My food & purchase Halal/Kosher/Organic foods. When I was in school from 1970s-1980s it was 1-3 super fat kids in the entire schools I attended. Now as a GrandMother every time I set foot in a school 90% of students are HORRIBLY, MORBIDLY OBESE not just fat/chubby. To the point I just want to cry. I've never seen so many children so fat. Infant *_CheMYSTERY_* milk is the first thing to make people Fat these days. Most babies who are exclusively Breast-fed are mostly a *healthy* lean to chubby. I know from experience with My 3 when they were babies. I thought they were underweight when I _naively_ compared them to their bottle-fed cousins of the same ages. I'd often tell their doctors I wanted My Children fatter. Their doctors would always say their weight was good, until one day a Doctor told Me Breast-Fed babies usually weigh less than formula bottle-fed Babies. Back then I didn't realize Baby CheMYSTERY Milk is actually a poison to cause obesity. I don't estimate baby formula was always like this. I figure it started making babies too fat in the 1990s along with the GMO Pseudo food's launch.
For me it’s my back pain Exercise - pain - weight Depression - food - weight Stuck at home - bored - food - weight On and on Used to be Military 6’1” 200 Running 7 min miles ALL the time Gone are those days
That's rough, man. I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. I've had brief periods of bad back pain and it was awful. I can't imagine living with it constantly like you do.
@@dumpsterfire6351 I'm so happy to hear that! There are lots of studies that show bariatric surgery greatly reduces back pain. I just read this one the other day, as it happens: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8036450/ Best of luck to you!
I had gastric bypass surgery Sept of 1998. Are there challenges? Sure are but I feel much better and my knees and hips don't hurt. I calorie count and get exercise. Once you've started calories counting you get to know what foods are best and what are the worst. I take my vitamins and at 60 now I do take a short nap in the afternoon. Thats just old age creeping up. I freeze all the time. My basic temperature that I am comfortable at is 73 degrees. I didn't sweat before surgery and ran cold with low BP. If anything my BP now is better. idk why that is. I had a bad gall bladder before surgery so it was removed at the same time. I do have Body Dysmorphic but I see the skin as fat. My family keeps me in check with that. There has been a time or two I thought I'd wished I could eat this or that or more but then again I come to my senses and am thankful I had the opportunity to get it done. I don't have trouble with dumping at all. I would do it all over again. My only regret is ... I just wished I had been able to get it done sooner
Thank you for sharing your experiences! Many people don't realize how much work it takes to maintain the weight loss. Anyone who thinks surgery is the easy way out is sorely misinformed.
I wonder why gastric sleeve is not an "elective" surgery for people who are not yet obese, but headed there. Why is the "tool" only offered once a person has failed to lose weight and are suffering the health and lifestyle consequences. I am not obese.... yet. I am plump and have always been so. I'm 56 now and it is 1,000 times more difficult to keep my weight manageable each passing year that I grow older. I would gladly save up and pay out of pocket for the sleeve surgery, if only it was an option. But as it stands now, people in my situation must slowly lose the battle with the bulge until we are in an existential-threat mode, health-wise. Whatever happened to oz of prevention vs pound of cure idea?
You can get surgery if you have BMI as low as 30 in Mexico. There are lots of ppl going this route that want surgery but don't qualify in aamerica or Canada. Also it's cheaper down there.
I signed up 5 times over the last 15 years. I don't know why I'm so terrified. Yet I know I need it. I just made the appointment again. I'm doing it this time. I just need to get past this fear
How do you feel with new diet requirements? Any regrets or concerns or difficulties in adjusting to what you can or can't eat any more? How do you adjust to egg sized portions, when all restaurants serve football sized or larger portions? Do you really get used to using a microwave to heat up leftovers all the time? Do you have to reduce recipe sizes? Are there foot groups you've given up such as sugar? How long did the withdrawal of that take?
I had my VGS 12 days ago. I only miss that i cant intake the amount of watet i want at once. Otherwise no regrets as of yet. Wish i had it done 10 yrs ago actually.
Had sleeve done Oct 2020, down 120lbs but still haven't made goal. I started weight training 10 months ago, getting leaner but havent lost any more weight. Getting discouraged. As a 5 ft woman going through menopause, not making any more progress even though I'm following the program stinks. Dont regret getting it done. I'm just discouraged right now.
I totally understand the discouragement that comes with hitting plateaus. I wish I had some wise advice about how to move push through it, but about all I can offer you is my sympathy. I've been there, and it's hard. But you're doing great. Look how far you've come!
My husband had bypass surgery about ten years ago. He was overweight but hia doctor rec5the surgery mainly to try to deal with his depression. The lining of the stomach secretes ghrelin, a hormone that can cause depression. Unfortunately that issue was not helped. The long-term problem he has run in to is osteoporosis, even though he takes all the recommended supplements and always has. His doctor told him that he has treated many patients long-term out from surgery.
I have always been normal weight, if there is such a thing, from 8 to 10 and now 12, but at 65 I can live with UK 10 to 12. But I do know I would be so happier if I lost weight. So this has inspired me. I have got lazy, I am retired. I will try again to lose those extra pounds. Thank you for your inspiration. xxxx
My Doctor told me she will do a gastric sleeve to me but Yesterday I bring my endoscopy results and I have Barrett Syndromes and she said we need to change to Bypass and I am very concerned and scared because of the reflux, ulcers and stories regarding the dilation ofvthe tube. Appreciate your advise. Blessings
My wife had serious acid reflux issues before her gastric bypass and the surgery has really helped her. Neither one of us has had any issues with ulcers or anything. I think your doctor is right that gastric bypass will be better for you overall than the sleeve would be.
I am working on the pre surgery checklist. Found out i have a hyinal hernia and sleep apnea. My dr wants to fix the hernia ar the same time of surgery. Has anyone had this?
im dealing with acid reflux now and its really taken a toll on me emotionally... i was never told about this either which also makes me really frustrated but i guess we'll see what happens.. :( im only two weeks post-op so idk hopefully, something can be done about it without needing more surgery
I've had a myriad of issues since was. However I'm not sure if it's my blood condition or the surgery. Ìve had multiple blood clots in my legs, severe anemia which means my iron is always low and my body cannot absorbe otciron so I have to have iron infusions. Gerd yes I have that along with a hiatus hernia. I've had to have my esophagus stretches twice. My blood work stays messed up, due to anemia/iron my bones have gotten weak so I've had several fractures. I've had to be on blood thinner for 38 yes now. I've got other issues too. So I don't know the root cause
I am 53 years old for the last 10 years. I really spiral downhill. I came to a point that it was already a path to self-destruction and it wasn’t getting better. I Got the surgery 10 days ago. I was 400 pounds and dropped to 370. So far it’s been 30 pounds. It’s not easy how people say to lose weight. It takes a lot of effort. I wish I would’ve done this sooner.
Yes! I've just been so busy the last few months with teaching at my university that I haven't had time to make a new video. I've been maintaining my loss of over 200 lbs and feeling great! My wife has lost over 140 lbs since her surgery last December and feels like a new person. Best of luck with your surgery next month; excited and happy for you!
I'm so sorry to hear that, Jessica. My heart genuinely goes out to you. What types of complications have you had? I want my viewers to be aware of the potential risks of the surgery and reading about your awful experience could be helpful to others.
Are you saying that you now weigh 192 pounds? I'm a woman, 5'2, and you weigh less than me! Congratulations, man! I used to get so frustrated that I would hear that (congratulations) quicker for weight loss than for some major work accomplishment, but nowadays I get it! It's Really difficult to get out off and keep it off! My big thing is getting used to PLANNING. But my regret is the same. My mother died 6 months ago. Had I been able to lose 25-30 pounds, I could have kept her clothes. But after trying and failing for 6 years, I simply cried when my sister donated all Mom's LOVELY, CLASSIC clothes! It wasn't until after I was no longer caring for her that I changed my life. THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THE HAIR LOSS; I PRIVATELY THOUGHT I WAS SICK! ****WHY***** does weight loss cause hair loss? Your wife is lucky. Yesterday my husband pulled a very long hair - out of his dinner! 😅 For loose skin, just keep walking and working out. You're actually looking very nice. (Not being fresh, I promise!) Cheering you on for your continued journey!
I wish I had gotten down to 192! The lowest I got was 225 back in 2020, but my dad passed away at the end of 2020 and I ate a lot of my feelings and had some regain in '21 and '22. I'm on my way back down and should be back to where I was by April or so. I'm sorry to hear about your mother's passing, by the way. It's so hard losing a good parent💔
It’s a scary thing! But so worth it in the long run. My suggestion is just to talk to your doctor or and see if they think it might be right for you and hopefully ease your fears in the process. Whether you decide to or not, I wish you the best of luck on your health journey.
Some of the fear, is facing the reality that if you do surgery you must change the way you eat, the way you poop, the th8ngs you've known forever will change. So it's real to deal with can I do that?

@@umsaraweyosef gastric bypass. Theeee b e s t thing I ever did as Gods Grace has kept me here 771/2 years. I was a 330 pound spectacle!! Back 45 years ago there weren’t so many morbidly obese as are now!!!! Plus the immodesty of huge women wearing skin tights is embarrassing. Come on Oxempic, surgeries or ANYTHING that will keep a body as God created it, sleek and healthy.
@@wendyluckie4537 this is so beautiful to hear from someone who actually had it . I am so happy for you and wish you best health always 🤗
@@ELchambelan bypass basically "cures" acid reflux, that's why i went for it instead of sleeve (also because generally bypassed individuals dont have revisions, and i was afraid of having to go that route, hopefully it's gonna be okay for u)

I will check these out
I gave up everything white, I’m down 41 pounds.
Thank you for your wonderful advice and guidance. I wish you all the best on your adventure to a new and healthier you!!🤗🙏
I watched a doctor that talked about people that lost a lot of weight & he said these people need not consider skin removal surgery because he said every 3 months your skin goes into a renewal process, it is slow but over a period of time your skin will tighten up on it’s own. That’s a better option than painful & expensive skin removal. Just thought I would add this in the comments to help anyone who is considering that route. Good luck & God bless.

Went from size 34 to a size medium. had plastic surgery that Medicare paid for due to rashes, etc. Just wish i would i would i have had the surgery a lot sooner! Keep up the great work!!!
How long it take for you to get to goal weight? How often u eat?
Did Medicare only cover 80% leaving u to pay the 20%?
What kind of rashes may I asked were on your skin, that helped with plastic surgery
I was not morbidly obese, but my blood pressure was sky high, cholesterol over 385, triglycerides over 1300 & became diabetic. I lost 100lbs, and take no medications, all my conditions have been normal fir over 20 years! I had a gastric bypass, and it saved my life!
I love hearing stories like this. So happy for you!
yes you dont realize what a life changing experience it is. Like your friends and family relationship will change a little
Everyone's journey is so different. My wife and I had surgery about a month apart back in 2019. She has been able to keep most of the weight off pretty effortlessly, whereas for me it's still a daily battle. I even had to start semaglutide last year to reverse the weight gain I was experiencing.
God BLESS YOU AND YOUR WIFE..ITS,A JOURNEY,I NEVER REGRET EVER!!
Hi JGarciaArt! How did it go now 11 months later?
Make sure you ask about avoiding MALTODEXTRINE!!!
You’re probably depressed or anemic.
You may need B Vitamin Shots Monthly. Have your Dr. get you cell level B vitamin. Not blood test. It must be cell level test.
Which surgery did you have? I'm sorry to hear of your health issues after bariatric surgery. Are things any better now?

What a great compliment, thank you!
You look great, I'm having him mine in 4 weeks. Of course I'm nervous, but there's no looking back now, if I want to live longer, gotta do it.
How’d you go Herb? I had mine a week ago
How are you both doing?? ❤
How was it for both???
Will never have the surgery to lose weight just eating low carb now but due to arthritis and badly needed knee replacements can't exercise much so profress is slower. Have lost over 100 lbs. Its an uphill battle. Have about 50 more lbs. to go. Will do it, it just takes time. Good luck to anyone who chooses to achieve better health. It's not easy no matter how you choose to do it but well worth the effort nonetheless.
I think Im only interested in those that had the surgery six or more years ago.....if you just had it yo dont know the consecuences in the long term
This makes me so happy to hear! Congratulations on your success!
So happy to hear this about your husband! The surgery really is a life-saving, life-changing procedure for so many of us.
Not only do you look thinner you look younger. I can see the difference!
If it weren't for my hair getting thin and gray I'd feel like a regular Benjamin Button!
@@mimibee626 how do u know she “had that before” and why would she have surgery to make her anorexic? Do u personally know this woman’s sister?
I heard if your considering weight loss surgery have you take a psych eval. Can you tell me what kind of questions they will ask me ?
@@myrnawolk3402 Yes, they want to make sure the patient understands that the surgery is only a tool in an overall weight loss plan.
I regret my gastric bypass and I have for over 20 years. First, I came VERY close to death and was in a coma in ICU for a week. Second, the GI side effects are daily, constant and debilitating. No one wants to wear adult diapers and be confined to the bathroom for the rest of their life.
2nd opinion? Medical error in your case?

Thank you 🙏
They really should. After it happened to two friends, I realized there's some really troubling statistics about substance abuse and weight loss surgery. One didn't make it.

Hi, Angie. How did it go?
Make sure to write down your questions!
I had gasteic bypass back in November. A world of difference! No regrets at all!
I just had a revision and I know this is an old video, but thank you for it. especially your ending words. It's greatly appreciated.
I've just found this. I've got an appointment next week to start my surgery journey. Thanks for some straight talking advice.
You're welcome! Best of luck to you on your journey.
@@SprintingSlowly you are so kind ❤
Thank you so much your last word touched my heart. “ being obese is not a moral failure “ I wish people who stigmatized me saw that. I wish my own primary doctor who was supposed to know me better and my health problems wouldn’t make me feel bad about my weight because I am not doing enough in her opinion.
I know you're trying your best. I'm sorry your doctor doesn't recognize that; that's so frustrating. You just keep being awesome.
:(
Do it. I did it and the only regret I have is not doing it sooner.
@@MiamiPush2theLimit thank u. I will
Finally gonna have my turn, most likely in July! Can’t wait n no one will convince me otherwise! Thank you for this video!
You still there?
Love to hear it! Congrats on the long-term success. It's inspiring!
I had the sleeve 7 months ago freezing cold all the time.
22 years later no regret no complaints! Best decision ever made!
Awesome! Love to hear it!!! 👍
This was so helpful. I really appreciate the time you took to inform us in a truthful manner.
Best of luck with the procedure! I trust your surgeon knows what's best.
@@nancpanc1 were u working out?
@@purpleirklegrovestreet right after surgery I lost it quickly by liquids and protein shakes. No exercise maybe just some light walks after work.
How are you doing Chandra since having surgery?
This has been one of the most informative and relatable videos I've watched. I'm so happy I clicked on your video!
Thank you!
Hope it's going well! The first few weeks are always the toughest. And please do keep in touch about your progress!
You look great! Cant wait to get my procedure
What an amazing success story! Thank you so much for telling me about him.

I still have problems with dumping syndrome 12 years later.
I'm over a decade out and gained everything back from the sleeve surgery. I had lap band before that. At this point I just give up.
It is absolutely ess

What a terrific idea! I love the shared support concept, brilliant! ✨
Good luck
@@nmartin5551 I think the only controlling PCOS is when the hysterectomy happens. No doctor has ever offered me any relief.
Happy to hear about your success! Anyone who thinks bariatric surgery is the easy way out is tragically misinformed.
Best video I've ever seen ,so informational !!! Ty 🙏
Thank you for your explanation of dumping. It was the best explanation I’ve heard
Thank you! I was so confused about what dumping was when I first heard people talking about it, so I really appreciate the feedback!
No regrets what so ever. Most doctors require psychological evaluation before surgery. Over eating is a head game
You could get the same result without this kind of surgery. I did it

that won't work read the research, once you stop dieting your weight comes back on.
Thank you so much for this. I really needed to hear this today.

For the record - _Normalized_ is NOT *NATURAL.*
Now more than 65%-75% of USA people are fat/morbidly obese not just from greedy gluttony only.
For me it’s my back pain
Exercise - pain - weight
Depression - food - weight
Stuck at home - bored - food - weight

The best video I have ever watched ..Thank you so much for all the important information. I go for my surgery in two weeks.
Thank you, and best of luck!

My husband had bypass surgery about ten years ago. He was overweight but hia doctor rec5the surgery mainly to try to deal with his depression. The lining of the stomach secretes ghrelin, a hormone that can cause depression. Unfortunately that issue was not helped. The long-term problem he has run in to is osteoporosis, even though he takes all the recommended supplements and always has. His doctor told him that he has treated many patients long-term out from surgery.
Can I ask which supplements he takes for osteoporosis?

My wife had serious acid reflux issues before her gastric bypass and the surgery has really helped her. Neither one of us has had any issues with ulcers or anything. I think your doctor is right that gastric bypass will be better for you overall than the sleeve would be.
