Is this still pretty up to date for path towards cloud engineering? i've been going through A+ and might go for the test soon. Also how much should I expect to spend before I have a job? Video was very helpful thank you.
Yes still up to date. Spend what time or money? Also what’s your experience? If you have 0 IT experience expect a very long uphill battle. There are very few “entry level” cloud roles for a reason. A good cloud engineer has a broad generalist skill set from other fields. The most common path is to start as a sysadmin/help desk roles and pivot to cloud.
@@joeterlecki Yeah pretty much zero IT experience. I expect it to be an uphill battle but some people are helping me and I feel like this the kinda job I wanna work my way into. I'm hoping I can get an entry job while I work retail in a year or so if not two. I know taking the exams cost a decent amount of money so I was wondering what else might be a huge hurtle money wise. The only other thing I can think of off hand is the VM's and Udemy courses.
@shotsniper009 if I where you, I would try to get a junior linux sysadmin role. Get the foundations from a+ net+ and sec+ because even though we are in the cloud a lot of the info transfers. And will solidly your career moving forward. While learning that. Start daily driving Linux for everything. Get comfortable with Linux as it will never go away. After you been using Linux for a while and got at least the first 2 comptia certs, start studying the RHCSA cert. get that and then start applying. This process should take you 9 months to a year but will out you on a path to make well over 6 figures The cloud builds on all these fundamentals but the theory will never teach how businesses operate and dealing with legacy crap. My first cloud role payed just under 100k but I had 1.5 - 2 years experience in cyber security and been using Linux/scripting for at least 5. I was also working on an information security/IT bachelors over the course of 6 years part time. If you don’t have any experience you need to play the long game and build foundations

@shotsniper009 yeah it works. I bought an old Lenovo thinkpad from eBay for like 300 bucks and installed Linux natively on it and forced my self to use it. Both approaches work just depends on the individual. If I had l t daily drove Linux I would have acted like water and went with the path of least resistance. Using Linux as your daily driver teaches you how to troubleshoot and google/documentation for answers.

Never had to use Linux, been in I.T over 20 years and cloud engineer for 10. Powershell and windows is all I've ever needed. There are plenty of companies not using containers. Containers is more of a specialty within cloud. Not required.
If you are working with companies that are developing software and it’s not using container, they are very legacy. Just because your experience is the exception doesn’t make it the norm. Yes there are 100 percent windows shops and legacy companies but they are the minority. And Linux is 100 percent required for cloud engineering and devops roles. If you don’t believe me try to get an offer without that experience

Everythings are good, just one concern is nginxproxy manager (yes its easy to use) but I would suggest treafik. There are some security problems with nginxproxy manager(I have heard that didn't dig too much into it)
