Hey John! Love the AW pick! That explains Menudo. Good luck!
Thanks. She did drag me to Ricky Martin 25 years ago. The things we do for love...
Amazing releases for sure. 1984 was a strong year. My year of graduation. I went in the USAF in the summer, and on my way from basic training to tech school, the long bus ride, a friend loaned me a copy of Purple Rain on cassette, and I got my first listen to that fabulous album.
Hey John... that was hilarious and thanks for the shoutout! Sometimes I feel like i live in the North pole, no doubt! I try to pride myself on knowing Canadian music, but I've never heard of Kick Axe (and yes, that's a terrible name)... I'll need to ch3ck it out. Cheers and good luck in the contest. Darryl
@@northernvinylguy Ha! Thanks. Kick Axe is also on the soundtrack for the Transformers Movie, but for contractual reasons they were called Spectre General, a far better name. I really do dig your channel. It was my pleasure to shout it.
Nice entry! the early Rod Stewart stuff is really good. Cool Fagan/Jazz connection1 good luck!
Hey John! I got dragged to too many Fogelberg concerts back in the day by an old girlfriend. Cool Sabbath memory, and also my fav band. Jeff from Speeker's Corner sent me your way, gave you a sub. Hope you make it to the Motherland someday! Cheers!
Thanks for the sub, and for checking it out. I would love to have seen Dan MF Fogelberg at least once, I'm a nostalgia nut for the 70's. There will be lots of Sabbath on my channel! They are a food group in my house!!!
I just subbed your channel after Jeff at Speakers Corner gave you a shout out..look forward to seeing your content…I am huge bluegrass fan and that is a great album..happy you picked hockey, but…GO LEAFS...👍❤glen
Thanks Glen, I appreciate you checking it out, and for the sub. I love hockey, we need more hockey music. Would be a good video! I hope my bluegrass love doesn't chase too many people away.
I loved your opening words. “We, partly because I’m fat and I could be more than one person” 😂…Ireland’s a place I’d like to go as well. I don’t get the Pantera sound either, and I do enjoy metal sometimes. Interesting jazz tie in with the Donald Fagen record. Fun C&W album. I never see David Allen Coe records for sale. It’s fun party music. Raven! I have a CD copy of Mob Rules. I am a fan of Dio’s vocals. Kick Axe! “One of the dumbest names of any of the artists I’ve ever loved” 🤠 I love Rolling Stones too. Awesome video John! ✌️
Thanks, was a fun bunch of prompts!
SCORES! La-la-la-la-la LaFontaine! RJ's classic call was a beauty - even for non-Sabres' fans. Hi John. As a Canadian, your references and appreciation of hockey shone like a beacon (and you're a Stones' guy!). Enjoying your videos and this response for Mike and Patty is good fun. Very cool to see the Mob Rules tour. You have a great, out-going demeanor and great taste in music. I look to shout you out in my response. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Jeff
Awesome! Thanks. I appreciate the kind words. You may see my son show up in videos from time to time, he was born 10 hours after the Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004. Was a great day indeed! Thanks again for checking it out and commenting.
Also, I watched your vinyl tag 25. Some Jerry Garcia discussion... In this video, the first record I show is the Chieftains, and there's an edit. I cut out a discussion where I talk about the Chieftains being invited by Jerry to open the show at the Boarding House for his bluegrass band Old & In The Way, and bringing them with him to a radio interview on KSAN, which was really their first American break. Bear Owsley recorded the classic Old & In The Way record at those shows, and recently released were his tapes of the Chieftains from the same night! It sounds fantastic. There's also a Doc Watson recording, which I ordered. I discovered the Dead by backing into them from bluegrass, pretty weird, but however you get there, right?
Splendid entry 😊 Hockey too. Brave honesty on the dislikes. Best of luck in the contest. Cheers from Morten
@@MortenAastad thanks for checking it out and the sub!
@ Happy to do so. I won last years, when he aimed for a few zeroes fewer 😄
Hey John. New subscriber here. Mike at MGK Boston directed me over. Like you, that period really had music steal most of my attention. Don't know Tony Rice, but will check him out. Look forward to catching more from you. Cheers, Jeff
@@Speekers_corner thanks! Appreciate you taking the time to check it out. Just posted a new one in response to MGK's contest
Hello John...came here from MGK channel, subbed up. I just wrapped up my series The Album & The Concert with 1984 so this was cool to see your picks. Deep Purple a banger right out of the gate !! Rush a underrated record for sure as I did a video on that also. Marley, Ratt, Prince, Savatage nice picks!!! Cheers!!!!
Thanks, I appreciate it! I subbed your channel, will dig in to some videos for sure.
Hey there. Mike at MGKBoston sent me over. Great review of 1984! I was a wee wee lad at the time so a lot of the old music is new to me 😊. I especially like the reggae in the mix. I’ve been on a reggae journey as of late and there aren’t a lot of channels that show reggae. All subbed up, looking forward to checking out more videos. Cheers
@@YoungLPLovers awesome, thanks. Yes, we hit on reggae on a couple of the videos. There's a discussion about Third World on the soul tag video. Thanks for checking us out!
Hey! Just found your channel and subbed. 😊
Wow, thanks. I've been subbed to your channel for a few months now, great stuff. I'm also a big Cheap Trick fan. Keep an eye out soon, RTZ is a friend, he's going to do a power pop show with me, thinking we'll cover 6 artists/3 each. He also said he'll film a little promo bit for your channel if you want. I also see you covered Artful Dodger, love them, those first two albums are unbeatable, and Billy's voice is one of my favorites! I appreciate the sub!
@ I appreciate that! How cool - RTZ is awesome!!! I will definitely keep an eye out for that. 😊
The year I got my drivers license
I call that Deep Purple album their comeback. Love it! The music video for Perfect Strangers is a winner too. I saw Rush in concert on the Power Windows tour a year or so after that album you showed. Saw Psychedelic Furs too in /86. A band called The Mission IK opened up. That band was fronted by a guy named Wayne Hussey who was previously in the Sisters Of Mercy. I played the he’ll out of that Marley record in my freshman year at university in /87. Steel Pulse are great too. Tony Rice is a new name to me. RATT! VH!
Regrettably, I never got to see Rush. Let me know if you check out Tony Rice. I recomend Cold On The Shoulder as in the video, or Church Street Blues. Thanks again for the shout!
Awesome video guys! I am a huge Scorpions fan. Only saw them live once in /92 in Ottawa. Klaus killed it as the best front man. I loved that penpal story with the mixed tape. Master Of Puppets was my first year at university and was a party soundtrack in /87. ✌️
Thanks for watching. I had Scorps tix with Rainbow in 82 in your area sort of... Binghampton. They cancelled the show while we were in the parking lot! Saw them 84/85, and again on Monsters in 88. Will there be a change in handle to MGKBUFFALO?
@@djenerateFLKeeping it Boston! MGK Buffalo is my new official nickname! 😂
Terrific video guys! It was 1981 for me, I brought home Iron Maiden Killers from the record store, never heard them before. The moment the needle hit the vinyl my life changed forever. From there it spread like wildfire, but mostly the NWOBHM bands that I couldn't get enough of. Over 40 years later I still love all things NWOBHM. 100's of amazing bands, most of which either only made it on a compilation album or just released one single. Keep up the great work, cheers!
@@ErickNWOBHM agree, love the NWOBHM. Maiden and Saxon opened the door for me to explore Angel Witch, Diamond Head, Tygers, Tokyo Blade, and Venom. A truly magic period of time.
Really enjoyed watching. I love The Spinners and recently discovered all those amazing artists such as Thee Sacred Souls and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings on Daptone Records with their old school soul sound. Fantastic you featured the amazing Intruders too.
Thanks so much for checking it out and taking the time to comment.
I love that "Thunder in the East" was one of the five. I played the crap outta that album at the time!
Me too. Ever hear the earlier stuff like Crazy Doctor or In The Mirror?
Definitely remember "Crazy Doctor". Even the artwork took me back in time. My friend Mark had every one of their albums. I got to see them with Stryper as well, and I remember thinkin' what a smart lineup that was. Very similar playing styles. I still buy Stryper new releases to this day. 🙂
Interesting take on Tears for Fears for sure. That is a stellar Loudness album. The Loudness writing kind of looks like a signature, but the face it is on both sides, makes me think someone wanted to deface it so as not to allow it to be returned. Maybe a promo. SAVATAGE RULZ! ROUGH CUTT RULZ!! I still buy most any release Paul Shortino does. I wish I had gotten to see them live. I saw Dio in 85, but they had Dokken with them. Thanks for the tag and letting me discover your channel.
@@JeffMcCormack777 Thanks for checking it out! Oh man, Dokken. Here in FL we went through a period from 83-87 where we had either Dokken or Night Ranger as the opener on almost every arena show. We were thrilled when anyone else was announced. We have another video from a week or two ago that covers some more stuff in your wheelhouse!
Just subscribed. I loved your take on Tears For Fears. The technical stuff is a bit outside of my realm, but has me ready to revisit my Tears For Fears albums. Loved that Loudness story. “They went off with much better looking women than we had” 😂….How awesome is it that you love Steel Pulse? I love them too, and have that album among several others. Rough Cutt is a new one for me. I’ve always been on the periphery with heavy metal. Duke Fame! So funny! I have to go back and look up that clip from the movie. 😂
@@MGKBOSTON Awesome! Thanks for checking us out. It was hard narrowing it down to 5. We appreciate the sub. As you can see, we're just getting started and are grateful for the help, and a cool topic!
Cool response, can't believe you have that metal massacre, and a leathur records version of too fast, that garage days is awesome, super cool stuff man. thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I was going to show Kill 'Em All on Megaforce as well, but figured I'd get to that in another video some time. I've been digging your channel! Good work!
@@djenerateFL Thanks I try.
Hey John, thanks so much for the shoutout for both our review videos and The Frigidaires. Great channel and videos, looking forward to seeing more!
Indeed. I'm a big fan. My son and I often binge watch a bunch of your vids at a time. A good part of my growing surf collection is informed by those reviews. In fact, the Frigidaires record arrived in a package with the Meteoroids and the Del Vipers, good company to keep! For me, surf led to exotica, and now I have a cabinet full of a dozen different rums, and a large collection of Hawaiian shirts.
Hi John Im Paul...to go from Beatles to Scorps to Brubeck to Menudo...definitely exploring that musical spectrum...kove the Specials shirt btw..great stuff great video thanx for sharing and take care
Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to check it out, and for the sub. I'm going to check out your channel, I see some compelling titles already!
Hi John, I noticed you had subbed my channel a little bit ago and checked out your videos here. Welcome to the VC and I wish you well with your channel. Man, Houses of the Holy. That's a great album that I think is often overlooked by the Zeppelin community. It's not an album that gets trash talked, but it also doesn't get talked about very much. It's an album that I remember from when I was a kid that my dad had (it was his favorite Zeppelin album I think). Wishing you the best from Canada. Cheers, Darryl.
@@northernvinylguy thanks for checking out my videos. Looking forward to getting some good content out there and interacting with others.
I feel the same way about "Ingénue". It was the only k.d. lang album I ever cared for. And I played it quite a bit.
@@jinky0u812 it's strange, there's a lot of people that feel like that. Thanks for checking out the video
That could be an idea for a thread!
@@TheAuditoryVinyl thanks for watching, trying to get started.
