Stamp Collecting: Why Social Media has Revolutionized and Revitalized the Hobby - Making Connections
It's raining here off and on too. I love that the CBC focuses on all the athletes, not just the Canadian ones. I wish I could same the same about Australia. We tend to be so parochial that you could be forgiven for thinking that our athletes were the only ones competing. When I have allegiance for Australia, UK, Netherlands, Kenya and all those other places I've been, it would be great to see a bit more inclusivity. (...and Canada, of course!) 06:09 Probably the Rijksmuseum. 07:29 The inscription says 'Greetings from Lochen'. 14:23 The Kiwi stamp is issued by a private postal service. Not sure how it works, but I suspect it may be similar to other private postal companies in UK, Portugal, etc. Thank you for the trust with the limericks. I do worry about crossing the line a little, but hopefully nothing too scandalous. There is one about Thumbelina that contains the words striptease and bum. Don't say you weren't warned. Great postcards and stamps! Thank you.
Great postcards…I love the zebras!
What a nice week of postcards, Rob. I didn't know about the controversial of Canada in the Olympics, so sorry, hopefully it will not affect the concentration of rest of the Canadian athletes. I did watch the opening show, it was amazing. Moomin was originally a series of illustrated books, so maybe you can find it in a bookstore. They are lovely, I'm a Moomin lover too hahaha.
@@mailartlover that is a good idea to find moomin books in a book store. I shall have a look

Impressive collection! I particularly enjoyed seeing the early British issues - of which I only have a few - and the various Bhutan stamps of the 60's and 70's, which I only have a small handful of. The stamps of places like Bhutan, Mongolia and Liberia are what got me hooked as a youngster. Those were strange, mysterious places to the 8-year old me, and I stared at those stamps with utter fascination. Those types of stamps are usually scoffed at by most quote-unquote "serious" collectors today, but I'm betting they ensnared far more youngsters into the hobby back in the day than all of the "dead statesmen" types put together. Using the worldwide volumes you do keeps things relatively compact, and I like how you're able to keep things neat and organized. My attempts at using pages like those always seem to end up with stamps all over the place in a disorganized fashion. I collect the world as well, mostly using "print your own" pages. While that's a very cost effective solution as compared to buying pre-printed pages, it's not very efficient with space and I'm at over 100 binders taking up an entire wall of a spare bedroom, leading me to question my very sanity at times. For most countries, I cut off my collection somewhere around the years 2000-2010 or so, with Japan being the only country I continue to collect current (used) issues. I've taken to using Vario stock pages for those, since printed pages tend to have spaces for the entire (unused) sheet, and mounting singles in those spaces is kind of awkward and, in my opinion, unattractive. Vario pages help me keep things neat, clean and organized. Anyway, thanks for the great video. Keep up the great work.
@@stevenbecker5571 kyler has a wonderful collection of stamps and you are right the unusual and fun stamps are what interest younger people. Having a 100 binders your collection must be equally impressive. I love doing interviews like this one to show different people collect and what interests them. Thank you for watching
Thank you for this ! Very helpful
Glad you could get something from it, Thanks for watching
We saw the video with my partner together, real fun! My favourite animal was otters, so cute and relaxing to watch how they swim, thank you for sharing!
@@mailartlover the otters were very cute
PLEASE --- Never store any philatelic items in those old gummed photo sleeves. Terrible for preservation as you can see from the gummed cardboard it is very acidic as shown by the brownish-yellow color. The gum may destroy the philatelic items. Leven Parker on his channel has a video stating just how horrible those old storage option were. You should really get Vario stock sheets or propylene holders made just for first day covers. Your option is much better than the former but not the best. The one advantage of Vario stock sheets is they come in various sizes and formats, downside they are price. Other option are storage materials used to store comic. Many modern First Day Covers issued by nation's postal authorities tend to be worth little over time due to the tremendous number produced. As FDC collecting has waned the amounts made have diminished but still not enough to really garner much of a premium (yet). The FDC covers that have a premium are those made into cachets or by small companies that restrict production to 100 or less. In general, except for the US, most world First Day Covers prior to 1976 usually have very low premium . In the US you have to go much farther back say around the 1920's. I collect First Day Covers for a) when I just only one example of a stamp or set of stamps and/or b) the design on the First Day Cover is very attractive.
@@chrissahar2014 you are right those old gum binders are not a good storage place for FDC but back in the day that is what was used. Now we know better. Thanks for watching

It is very interesting to watch animals! It is a pity that the zoo has lost its natural habitat. Animals are cut off from the food chain and their natural behavior. For example, hunting, caution, building a home, and more.
