Dakota DC-3 flight Amsterdam to Luebeck July 19 2024 take-off, landing, cockpit views over Amsterdam
Dutch Dakota Association’s PH-PBA was originally C-47A, 42-100971. On June 6, 1944, she dropped paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division over Sainte-Mère-Eglise. Later that same year she would also participate in Market-Garden.
After the war she was the first Dutch Royal Flight aircraft, initially owned and flown by Prince Bernhard, who later sold it to the government for more general use by government officials as well.
Sadly, after 40 years of flying passengers, this will be the Dutch Dakota Association’s last year of operation, due to ever increasing headwinds from all directions, such as rising landing fees, fuel costs, availability of fuel, suitable hangar space, noise restrictions and such.
On July 19, 2024, she flew from Amsterdam to Luebeck, where she would make a number of pleasure flights over the area of the Travemünde Woche nautical event, before returning to Amsterdam on Juli 21.

One of the most outstanding features of this airplane is the gigantic spar connecting both wings (minute 3:46). This is one of the best features for the Fokker F-27. By the way, another excellent turboprop, the DASH8 is with the same feature, nevertheless the spar assembly isn't noticeable from the inside of the passenger compartment. This makes DASH 8 not so "slick" and aerodynamic. Both are for me the very best in their class.

And that spar was carried over into the F50. I remember on one return flight I nearly bumped my head on it while boarding on both the outbound and inbound flight but I learned my lesson after that 😅

Thank you for sharing this - so much nostalgia! As a kid I first gained a love of aircraft and flying living in the Middle East, where we regularly flew on the Oman Aviation F27s, and the pilots always invited me up to the cockpit as a kid. They're what made me want to learn to fly in the first place, and when I was 15 living in Egypt I did get my first flying lessons from Dutch and English friends who shared a Piper Arrow and were both qualified flying instructors.

I love how so many people cherish honor, love and miss a crook. "The Moon Landing" = Total LIE. And not one single entity was ever arrested, tried, or shamed for it. Bart Sibrel exposed them all. And they hate that name. And so does People from Australia & U.K. Because HE BUSTED THEIR LYING ASSES. The BBC helps cover lies all the time from WWI & II and the other wars that followed. The TAX payer has been used as deadly pawns and reason to lie to. HUMAN can be motivated to do anything. Especially lie for money. And boy did they.

To me the whole point of flying in a propliner, be it turbo or piston, is to actually see that prop in action. You will see in my other videos that in the Superconstellation, DC-3, DC-4 and Ju-52 I will always try to be seated near where the action is :-) And in the Catalina there is a superb view of the engines from the blisters.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful flight! There is nothing like the sights and sounds of an F - 27 or an FH227B!! Reminds me of the days when I would fly Britt Airways from Evansville, IN to Chicago O'Hare when they took over the route from Delta Airlines in the early 80's. The sound of the Rolls Royce Dart engines was so unique. I loved the "whistle" sounds, especially during the startup and taxi. I have been to the Netherlands and flown on KLM, a wonderful airline rich in aviation history. I believe NLM was a subsidiary operating "City Hoppers." to feed the KLM hub at AMS. I wish that they could have kept this aircraft airworthy. There is just nothing like it today. Thanks again for the great memories!

Someday, people will recognize the prescience this incredible astronaut, geologist, & thinker had for our being able to practicably solve our planet's energy problems with the mining of Helium 3 from the lunar surface. Kudos, Jack, from an avid viewer of Apollo 17 since it launched when I was 9. If even 1/3 of the mass-delusional 'sky is falling' chicken littles screeching about the urgency of replacing our fossil fuels because of the anthropomorphic cause of our changing climate were truly interested in searching for renewable energies, they'd eagerly discuss Helium 3 as not only a viable option, but support its mining as a compulsory alternative. Unfortunately, you won't often hear those individuals offering input into our obtaining real solutions, because what they desire is power for power's sake. For the rest of us--we're grateful for the Jack Schmitt's of the world.

Yep. As a young child I flew in them a number of times between Auckland and Napier to visit grandparents in the mid-late 1980s. I think they were both F27-100s and F27-500s with some pretty unique lighting inside. I loved them even though back then I didn't understand/apprecite the uniqueness and awesomeness of how they sounded at every stage of the flight - starting up, takiing, takeoff, flight, landing, even shutdown and watching the propellor gracefully slow and stop. This video really took me back - thank you :)
