Promised Land State Park | Pickerel Point Campground
This is my 1st time visiting Promised Land State Park and I was looking for a little get away adventure while still close to home... November is a big deal here for HUNTING! I talked to some locals, and they said it is packed with activities here come late Spring and Summer!
I stayed at the Pickerel Point Campground.
About 3,000 acres in size, Promised Land State Park is on the Pocono Plateau, 1,800 feet above sea level, and is surrounded by 12,464 acres of the Delaware State Forest, including natural areas. Visitors can enjoy:
Fishing and boating in two lakes
Rustic cabins
Camping
Miles of hiking trails
Exploring the forests
The forests of the park consist primarily of beech, oak, maple, and hemlock trees. Two lakes and several small streams add to the park’s outstanding scenic beauty.

Visiting the Smallest State Park in Pennsylvania!
มุมมอง 16421 วันที่ผ่านมา
That’s right, at only three acres in size, Sand Bridge State Park is the smallest state park in Pennsylvania. It was purchased by the state in 1905 and was, at first, part of the White Deer State Forest District. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps built several pavilions on this land, and, in 1978, it was named a state park. There isn’t a ton to do here, but it makes for a great rest...

Solo Backpacking in the Pinchot State Forest | Day 2

More mud than I was expecting, but the views have been soul-captivating with all the colors changing everywhere! I won't lie, once I got on the road walk, my hip flexors on both legs were in a world of hurt! I averaged a 2.8 mph walking pace on trail, but on the road I was at 1.5 after a while. The struggle was real... I am fine and look forward to my next Backpacking Adventure.... May come soo...
1st Solo Backpacking Trip in the Pinchot State Forest | Day 1
มุมมอง 385หลายเดือนก่อน
Join me on my 1st ever-backpacking trip in the Pinchot State Forest! I have been slowly collecting the gear needed to start doing overnight backpacking trips and the time has finally arrived! I am hiking the South Loop trail which is 14 miles on average, my trip ended up being 14.2 miles.
What I'm bringing for my 1st Solo Backpacking trip!
มุมมอง 163หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm headed out to Pinchot State Forest for a 2-day hike trip on the South Loop of the Pinchot Trail. Approximately 14-14.5-mile hike. It can be easily done in one day as a day hike, but I want to take my time, and this is the best place for beginner Backpackers to experiment or test out your gear. - There are a few small items I failed to mention that I will be carrying, they were in my Daypack...

Awesome campsite for sure! Very nicely done on the video.
@@JimHayesHiking I really scored with that site and would stay there again. The campground is great too.
Wow what a campsite! That place is always booked during the summer, its so nice. That part of the park wasnt available when I snow camped there in late Dec a few years ago but I did ride up to the point and took some pictures. I remember being shocked at how nice the bathrooms were lol. I actually made my 1st YT video at PLSP. Nice video, thanks for sharing the historical buildings (that was all closed when I was there).
I wouldn't want to come here in Summer but I'm planning on an early Spring Trip before it gets busy and full of bugs and snakes on the trails... I had to stick my hand through an already broken window to catch a glimpse of the Blacksmith shop, LOL! Nothing was open but this park really has a lot to offer for a variety of activities.
@@darcyshikingdiaries oh wow you got a nice shot through the broken window lol.
@@buscampers The things we do... LOL, And I have skinny arms...
Nice scenes 👍🙂
It's a peaceful & quiet place this time of year, I wanted to be by the water.
@darcyshikingdiaries 👍
Goes to show you even in the barren late fall nature can be beautiful just like you Darcy,
Haha, thanks. I didn't do as much hiking as I would have liked to because of the conditions and a lot of hunters using the trails. It's a beautiful place and I really just wanted to enjoy the water views.
Fun time exploring another state park. I've only hiked there but have never camped I like the walk in site you have for this trip.
I really enjoyed this Campground, the Pickerel Point Campground, it is beautiful.
You asked for my thoughts so here they are...I am an introvert and I prefer to hike alone. Across all aspects of life there will always be a time honored dynamic that never changes...When males and females get together there is always either a tension and attraction or not. That specific dynamic in my opinion is what drives all human behavior because it is biological, and essentially uncontrollable. So if you have an interest in a person of the other sex you will associate with them in whatever capacity it may be. And if you don't take some sort of interest you will tend to avoid them period. This applies to hiking and every other aspect of life. Personally, when it comes purely to the discipline of hiking, I don't care who you are or what you are, either you are good people that can hang, or you are not, we all make that judgement in our own minds...for me it's all about meeting like minded folks who are as passionate about nature, adventure, and discovery as I am. Sorry for the long post, just being completely honest with my thoughts, Darcy.😃
I appreciate your thoughts. Well said Walter. I love being out on my own but sometimes it's nice to have likeminded people around to navigate with and have a good time out in nature.
Great video. Beautifully done.
This place has a lot to offer, at this time of year it is all about Hunting season.
That is an amazing campsite. Looks like it would be a good spot to launch a kayak from or maybe even fish. It is crazy how little rain we have had. The little stream still looked very pretty on that little loop.
My site was perfect, there were 2 small trails down to the lake that were within my site and I really wanted to be next to the water, this place was perfect for a quick little getaway.
Very well done Video Darcy!!! We camped there earlier this spring. Love that park. Unfortunately the museum was closed when we were there. Thanks for sharing...👊😀!
Thank you for watching Griz! I feel like early Spring would be great at this place, come Summer it will be packed with people and too crowded for me.
Really nice state park. Looked beautiful! You captured it well. Great thumbnail by the way!
I have mixed feelings about this place as far as hiking goes. The water is what I wanted to see and be close to. Camping over the weekend is nice if you are close.
OMG you scored such a great campsite! That lake is gorgeous. The shots from the beach are beautiful. Given the lack of rain recently, you still had a nice little flow in the creek there. Nice job.
The Little Falls Trail was kind of a bummer, we haven't had much rain, and it has been hot & cold making it weird for the animals and nature in general. I appreciate you watching my video. It was a good time!
I'm not too far from you...I live near R. B. Winter state park where you were a few weeks ago. I'm always hiking... Maybe I'll see you sometime! Great channel!
Thank you for watching and maybe we will meet on the trail!
gorgeous!
I hike with different people all the time. I agree with you how you say about the energy of people... I'm actually near a place you were at a few weeks ago... R. B. Winter State Park... Love the channel!
I appreciate you watching the video and I am always looking for a trail...
@darcyshikingdiaries I'm not sure how far you want to go but here's a couple in Centre county... Greenwood Furnace State Park, Poe Valley State Park, Poe Paddie State Park and Penn Roosevelt.... The first three all have a swimming area in the lakes.... They all have trails around them. You could honestly probably do them all in one day if you wanted to only make like a one-day trip or one weekend trip. The first three are definitely the best out of the four. For camping you'd probably want to do either Poe valley. Pie Paddie or Greenwood probably. They are all near State College... Less than 30 minutes away..... And maybe an hour from R. B. Winter state park. I know a few places in Huntington too if you're interested that are near Raystown lake which is a MUST SEE!
@@Derek-t7v I'll add them to my list!
I have no issues with hiking with anyone. Makes no difference to me. Hiking is hiking. If my wife wasn’t comfortable with me going in a planned trip with a woman I wouldn’t go. Talking to men or woman that cross my path on trail isn’t an issue either. Backpackers, day hikers or hunters. If they are cool with it I’ll stop and talk. Hiking with someone new can be awkward at first until you get to know them and their hiking style. More so if you are both TH-camrs.
Well said and I agree Dan!
I'm fine with it because its just a hike. These collaborations are fine. Now if its gets to be a common occurrence, with the same person, then that would be problematic. My wife on the other hand doesn't like it. She has a different way of thinking and she comes from a different culture. If my wife wanted to hike with someone I'd tell her to go and have a good time.
My Husband doesn't like the idea of me hiking solo or with a stranger, but he has come to be okay with it as I am still alive, and he knows it is a passion of mine and makes me happy. He knows I make videos of my trips but naturally he worries about my safety.
Here is my two cent's, How does one's partner feel about it. if she or he says NO I rather you not do that, well who or what is more important? if they say they do not care I guess one has free reign to do what they want, If you do not like it if they say no, and ask for outside backing to do what you want you will find lots of support, so it starts with how your partner feels and what is more important to 0ne self.
I go hiking with everything. . Some people can sense , some cant. . . Hope you are well . Im not a fan of talkers. Walking and talking is a waste of energy . .. like i can talk when i am stopped .
I am okay with talking but if I am hiking with other people, I also don't feel the need to chat the whole time! As you said, we can chat when we take a break or at camp.
Hiya Darcy
That most certainly is a tiny park! Thanks for sharing!
I've gone on 8 hour day hikes with strangers (found thru hiking groups) that were okay but always difficult when it comes to breaks and pace. I do (while moving) take many pictures. My breaks are few, short and not often. My pace is also usually faster than others. I prefer hiking alone and always leave a map with detailed information about where I'll park and the route I'll hike. I plan 8 hour hikes from the trail head, so if I'm not heard from in 12 hours, someone will have a rescue # to call for me. I've never needed that to happen but will always do this. Stay safe on the trails.
I always leave my Husband and kids a note of where I am going and the name of the person I am going with if I plan to hike with other people. I love solo hiking, but it can be nice to go with other people be it man or women, sometimes it's better to have another person around and you can learn from their experiences.
❤love the beautiful water sounds!!!😊❤
Beautiful
I'm just catching up here. It's you being you and doing what you do! No better content than someone being themselves. Thanks for sharing!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE WATERFALLS! 🙌🏼🙌🏼💕☺️
Potstickers 🥟 have to be one of my favorites!! 🙌🏼🥟☺️ yum!
I think that screened-in building was kind of a spring house and used to keep critters out of the water. Don't know for sure. Pot stickers in the woods sounds like a good idea and easy!
Yeah, that building was something I haven't seen before in the middle of the woods, I'm sure it has something to do with the water since it was right on top of flowing water!? I brought a few different things to cook, your basic Top Ramen, a Backpacking meal and then I saw these at the store and said to myself, that is what I want for dinner tonight! So easy and satisfying.
Nice video! That pavilion above the creek is great! Totally worth lugging my stuff up there for a picnic.
Next time I go back to R.B Winter State Park to camp, I will plan accordingly to stop here for a quick picnic. It's small but so quaint and pretty!
Thank you for sharing!
I appreciate you watching!
That’s a great camp site. That would be great for a deep winter trip and it’s only 1hr from my house. I marked down that camo site. Your video was filmed and edited very well. I’m digging those drone shots. Pirogies looked amazing.
@@backpackingadventures4813 I really liked both the walk in Campsites, this one had plenty of trees for a hammock! I will be going back for sure, I didn’t explore all the trails and I’m sure there are lots of trails in Eagle State Park that link back to this campground. Thanks for watching Dan!
@@darcyshikingdiaries I’m definitely snatching that site for a winter trip. Hopefully a snowy one.
Love those fall leaves. What a sweet video.
Классное видео! Красивый лес! Мне понравился ваш поход! Было очень интересно! Спасибо, что поделились!
It might have been dreary but those leaf colors are great!
The colors are becoming so vibrant now!
You hit it right there with the decorated camp sites, and your food looked better than those noodles in a bag you ate on your last trip. Ha Ha.
nice Darcy, thanks
wouldn't halloween approaching ? 😄 nice movie.
Darcy, Beautiful park. Thank you for the camping adventure!
I love that campsite! Thanks for the enjoyable video!
Great chill video Darcy, just visited Laurel Summit state park a few weekends ago it’s only 6 acres, crazy to think some of the parks are so tiny, that creek looked great in the foliage, good stuff
small park, but that's a nice campsite. i have never seen wheelbarrow service before. that's amazing. especially for firewood. i have carried wood piles way too far. lol. lovely fall walk. which part of pennsylvania is this? have a great week, darcy! 🛴❤
It is North Central PA I believe. I usually bring a bundle of Firewood, but it burned quick, and I wanted more, so having that wheelbarrow came in handy as the campground firewood place is located at the Entrance and my site was at the very back of the campground!
Visiting the Smallest State Park in Pennsylvania! nice share my friend.
The park looked so beautiful with all the leaf color. My daughter and I stopped here in the spring when we were at R.B Winter also.
I drove right past on my way to R.B Winter, it was like I blinked and didn't see it, but I knew it was near by. Haha! I made sure to drive slow on my way out so I could stop and check it out! Another State Park I can check off!
😮wheelbarrow is a great thing !😊❤
I know right!? I wish I had thought to use it when unloading my car but when I saw them, I thought it was for Park Maintenance or something.. Clearly they are for guest to use. Haha!
Looks like a wonderful park. Great overlook, beautiful forest, cool spillway that looks like a waterfall, and WHOA! what an impressive Halloween display. Love that huge campsite you had, too. I'd guess that building was a chicken coop.
I'm still thinking about that building! It was just odd with the screen windows?! I will be returning to this campground and would book this site again, there is so many trails that I didn't get to and places nearby I need to check out. Thanx for watching John!
Looks like a relaxing time. That was a huge campsite.
I enjoyed this trip, but I really wish I had 2 nights to better explore the area and trails. I wanted to decompress but still make content to share and I felt like I didn't have enough time to enjoy the time... If that makes sense.
❤beautiful site darcy!!!😊❤
It was huge! I was expecting to have a lot of hikers going by with being next to a trail, but no one ever came up or near my site while I was there. I love little campgrounds like these, but I also like space between me and my neighbors which I had but the other sites are pretty much on top of one another.
I think maybe my favorite video you have made Darcy. The music was perfect, thanks for taking us along for your adventure. This was so cool. It's heartwarming to see folks decorate for the season at their campsites. I can so relate to the joy of setting up for a simple overnight campout and seeing what the day and night will bring you.
Walter, this trip was so different than what I'm used to filming or doing while on an adventure (I never know how my video or footage will come out until I start editing but this was me being simple and my mood might show that) I just went with it and didn't want to overthink about everything! 🙃🙂 I really enjoyed this Park and need to go back to explore more of the trails AND Bald Eagle State Park trails in general!
Wow what a lovely camp site 😂😂 sounded like an interesting day 😂 loves the man’s Halloween set up great video💪 beautiful Really enjoyed this thank you Darcy
It brightened my mood seeing ALL the Halloween decorations up in a campground like this! This was a cool experience!
