Cycle Touring with Kids - Grand Est 2023 - Part 1: From Bisel to St-Jean-de-Losne
Join Us on Our Family Bike Tour Adventure! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️
Summer 2023 kicks off a thrilling new cycling tour for our family of five! We’re embarking on a loop tour through the breathtaking Grand Est region in France. Starting from the charming village of Bisel, we’ll follow the EuroVelo 6 route through the Doubs valley to St-Jean-de-Losne, where we connect to the Voie Bleue and head north. From Nancy, we’ll travel east along the Canal du Marne au Rhin toward Strasbourg, then turn south to follow the scenic Route des Vins d'Alsace, and finally loop back to Bisel.
Our adventure spans over four weeks and covers approximately 900 kilometers.
We’re once again touring on our Steintrikes Wild One trikes, with the kids riding their 20" bikes, now loaded with panniers for the first time. Our one-year-old is joining us for his first tour in a Croozer Kid for 2 trailer.
In this video, we cover the first leg of our journey along the EuroVelo 6, a route renowned for its stunning landscapes in the Doubs valley. We visit Belfort, Montbéliard, Besançon, and Dole, as well as many charming villages along the way.
For a detailed overview of the entire tour, check out the map linked below!

Convert Steintrikes Wild One to Wild One Roadster? 20" vs 26" Rear Wheel!
มุมมอง 4.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Did you know that Steintrikes make modular recumbent trikes? This means that you can easily convert one model to another if you need some different parts! In this video, we show how we converted Endre's Wild One to Wild One Roadster, by changing the rear fork and adding a bigger wheel (26" instead of 20"). We are converting Endre's Wild One because he wants a bigger wheel to achieve higher spee...

Re: Cold numb feet. Slightly loosen your shoes and make fists with your toes/ wriggle them while riding. I've found it helpful but it doesn't completely stop you feet from going numb. Also Spinning/pedaling faster, rather than grinding helps a lot.

Thank you! ❤️ We planned the route in advance, we had several options depending on how we progress, but in the end we succeeded in following the original one. We like that in France there are many campsites, and they are not so expensive so we could stop in every 20ish km if need be.

Thank you! ❤️ They are! We use bikes for everyday commuting, so they are quite used to making 10-15 km a day. So we pushed a bit harder before summer to get them (and us) in better shape and be ready for 40-50 km a day without problems.

I would also like to mention they are wonderful on crowded, multi-use trails along the beaches in Southern California. Traffic along the trails often stop, or kids and adults mindlessly cross the trails, or people decide its a good idea to walk 4 abreast, and none of this has much impact on a trike rider. And trikes give the rider good visibility to see potential dangers and avoid them.

Many people mention turning to trikes for balance issues. But I'd like to mention that I had sciatica issues from riding standard bikes which greatly affected my life. I've been riding my trike for 8 years, and I not longer have any sciatica issues. I can ride everyday.

I became a trike rider because riding a traditional bicycle became too painful, nerve and joint pain that would last for days after riding as little as 4, 5 miles. Since I started riding a trike, I have never looked back, my only regret is it took me so long to get one. It took me about 2 months to develop my trike legs, a little longer to strengthen my neck muscles. My Catrike Dumont has put the fun back into riding.

New can be intimidating in price but try one out for a decent 10 mile ride and see how it feels. Someone, somewhere, has one for rental without an electric assist . I bought mine used and in need of minor repairs . It is a Terratrike Path 3 speed internal hub or at least it was. I changed the gearing to a 20 speed setup , replaced the brass bushings ( yup 2007 model!) and put a rack on it. 500.00 Canadian to buy it and 150-200 bucks to upgrade it. Facebook marketplace has a lot of E trikes in the range of 5-9000.00 used! Just what is your health worth?

Looks good. Simple design and nicely done! I think I'd either spread the two Thule bars further apart or add a third one at the rear, to spread out the weight more and add stability against crosswinds. I have only one trike, but have wondered if I could fix up something like this for my Scion FR-S sports car.

I noticed that only on the red trike you have 3 sprockets in the front. The green one has only one mid size sprocket. Is there any reason? (I'm impressed that you made it up this mountain with such a quite fast gear ratio.) :)

I don't get what's going on here please someone educate me - bike technology must have moved on a lot since I had kids lol. 7 years ago I rebuilt my back wheel (which I only really pull a kid bike trailer with now lol - but one day we'll tour the world!) to encompass a Shimano 8 speed internal gear hub - when I was a kid there were 3 gear Sturmey Archer but only for the rich folk! I thought it a wonderful idea, because although derailleurs were fantastic, the chain was always bent at some angle and that will always cause problems for bearings, chains and sprockets - the force isn't equal. The hub I bought was affordable, and apparently only 'run-in' at 5k miles. I see here some sort of internal hub but also a derailleur - how does that work??

  • @wtopp345985
    @wtopp345985 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I didn't think you all could do it with skinny tires, but the extra weight over the back wheel and the "chains" turned the tide. Well done.

I have an electric assisted recumbent trike. I love it. My only complaint is a much wider turn radius. Some trails come out at a 90* angle to a sidewalk and it can be difficult to make that corner. Other than that, being lower you need to be visible. Have a flag and lights.

You can add blinker lights on the sides of the bike, if you buy ones with 2 or 3 aa batteries you can actually wire them in parallel with the back light...I forgot the ac voltage coming from dynamo... Oh well, you still can charge blinkers with a USB dynamo adapter...
