The core philosophy behind Action-Powered Productivity is this:
1. Take Action
Do the work that's in front of you.
2. Capture Recurrence
Look at what you did and ask yourself "How can I do this work better the next time?" Then capture that recurrence in a Productivity Bridge.
What is a Productivity Bridge?
A productivity bridge is a structure that increases the speed, accuracy, and quality of future work. It is a category that includes templates, procedures, recurring tasks, automations, and a variety of other tools.
As you construct the bridges that improve your work, you assemble your productivity toolkit. This toolkit of real, practical solutions beats the "perfect" theoretical system every time.
In short, if you impose structure, you restrict action. But if instead your productivity toolkit reflects the action you actually take-and accepts that 80+% of the work you do will be work you've done before and work you'll do again-you can quickly assemble bridges that actually make your work easier.
The concepts presented in The Rhythms of Productivity are not prebuilt systems, but rather building blocks for you to assemble your productivity toolkit. Don't be afraid: nothing needs to be built in advance, and the ideas aren't complicated. You can "think little"-create simple templates, procedures, automations, and so forth that solve little problems, and pretty soon the big problems melt away.
Roles and Transformation
Two other tactics complete the Action-Powered Productivity strategy:
1. Define roles for big-picture planning
Don't set goals. Determine your roles-the identities you embody in your work and life-and ensure the action you take fulfills those roles.
2. Review your toolkit to Capture Transformation
All things change, including your templates, procedures, and automations. With regular reviews you can capture that transformation and keep your productivity toolkit working smoothly.

I am desperate for someone to make a beginners guide to Tana - a REAL beginners guide. From scratch, and with explanations of how it works, (and why) and then apply it to real life examples so I can see how things are constructed. Everyone assumes you know what you are doing, or that you are coming from Notion, or Obsidian etc. I really want to build a system (I'm a researcher) but despite playing with it for a few months now, I have no idea what I'm doing and just getting more and more confused. Is there such a thing anywhere??

Hi, thank you for making this video, I have a question for you if you don't mind, what I am trying to do here is to track equipment and I would like to know how to tag a period of days, for example [[Trailer 180]] is pinned to [[Truck 16]] for contract [[C-203330]] from june 21 to june 28, and have this block showing everyday in that period of time. How would you do it without having to tag every day manually? Additional info is that I am not using any extensions. Thank you!

R.J. - If I purchase TFT2, will I also have to review the original TFT? I know the original is included with TFT2 but will I need to go through both programs or is TFT2 all encompassing? Oh, and great video - a lot of "aha" moments in there for me.

    • @RJNestorCoach

T4T2 is entirely separate from T4T. While a lot of the concepts carry over, everything you need for T4T2 is included. No "prerequisites" required!

Excellent strategy. And I agree that templating can be reused and increase efficiency. I have trouble doing this in practice. Most of it is in my head. What are your techniques? Do you have templates of TODO lists and TOBUY lists?

  • @mattural20

R.J., I had to actually stop watching Module 7 of (the original) Tana for Tasks to write you publicly and say that your course-again, even the original-is so well put together, clear, and helpful to both Tana newbies and those that have been around since the start like me. I have ADHD, and there have been some concepts I knew that Tana could give me in a task management system that I have had a tougher time producing myself, due to the fact that like many PKM-ish apps, you can do what you want many different ways, and this can be the bane of a neurodivergent brain! Your videos unlocked these concepts for me, clearly and concisely, though, and I'm very grateful. While going through Tana for Tasks 1, I can already see where you will be going with TfT2, and I cannot wait. Thank you, sir!!

DM me on Twitter (@rjnestor) and I'll walk you through it. (If you don't use Twitter, let me know and we'll connect a different way.) In short, I build the # recurringtask structure with three fields: Day of Week, Day of Month, Date of Year. Then I use the Day of Month field to schedule monthly tasks. This video was covering a lot of ground. We can work through it more succinctly.

As of a short while ago, you can set up a status field which is linked to a node's check box, so that "To Do", "Doing", "Someday/Maybe" etc. all produce a unchecked box, but moving it to "done" will check the box (and vice versa).
