Unless you're exclusively into mainstream music, dump the Spotify and get on platforms like Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Pandora is pretty good, too, if you only do streaming. Bandcamp is my #1 go-to for discovering new music and artists. And they have certain Fridays during the year when 100% of earnings go to the artist.

Haha it certainly can be! But so can office space for the sake of it. There is no clear answer in general. Each industry and role has vastly different needs so it’s pointless to make blanket statements. What’s clear is that remote jobs (in general) will typically pay less, have less career advancement opportunities a higher turnover and likelihood of outsourcing. Productivity is difficult to say as there’s lots of studies that support both sides. In office, it’s a lot easier collaborate, create a baseline expectation of productivity and have oversight on employees. Does a back office document processor have to be in office 5 days a week? No, probably not. Should an engineering team? Yes.

There's no point reasoning. Either the employees or the employers get their way or something inbetween. That's literally how a free market works. It has nothing to do with values, its all lipservice. As employees we want the best deal for us. For employers they want the best deal for them. Let it play out however it does even if both sides are disingenuous.

Well that’s true, hybrid options seem to be quite promising for certain roles and industries. But overall you’re right, the employees and employers that simply do not see eye to eye will not work with each other. Employees fighting the RTO mandates will get fired and employers that want fully in office will now likely have to pay a premium to attract talent

I also listen to many, many songs that aren't even on Spotify. I have my own music collection, which I personally gathered throughout the years, and I'm very proud of it, and it is a part of me. And let me tell you, you don't need Spotify, to find new music. Like that's the first thing everyone says to me when I bring up that I hate this platform and they are defending it. I am discovering new music all the time, without Spotify.

Spotify has deleted a few of the songs that i listen to. But on youtube, if a video was taken down, i could just search up another video with the exact song. another good thng about youtube was that i could skip as many times as i wanted!!! i think we should go back to physical music if it makes the artists more money.

Idk I feel like a lot of this is a stretch, and it’s contradicting itself. For example you state that smaller artists are struggling while using Spotify, because they can’t make much when using the platform, but you also state that Spotify will encourage the listeners to listen to a more verity of songs. And not just one album. Isn’t that healthy for smaller artists? Also we live in a capitalist economy. If it was so bad competition would be rising. There is Apple Music, and pandora. But Apple Music doesn’t recommend many songs in comparison, and pandora only recommends songs. Also maybe I haven’t gotten far enough into the video. (I’m 12 mins in) but the only issue to the listeners is the hike up on price to consorts? I don’t feel like that too horrible. Once again I believe capitalism will fix that. If people don’t wana go to pricy stuff then they will have to drop the price somehow.

    • @exosuit3950

After finishing the video I feel the same. The industry is changing. The stile of listing to music is also changing. Using to be music can only be heard by singing it. Then it changed to record player. Then the radio. All it’s doing now is changing again. You also stated that ai music is bad. I agree. But that’s an issue with ai, not Spotify. Ai is in everything now. And I believe that there should be laws to prevent how much they can control. But once again this is a convo about ai, and not Spotify.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but not with the whole "mood playlists bad, only listening to albums front to back is better". Maybe it's because I grew up with spotify and that's the only way of listening to music I have really experienced, but I don't see the problem with it. I create mood playlists because certain moods or feels that songs have helps me to proces my feelings and emotions. That would be impossible if I only listened to music with vinyls and cds (altough I do own vinyls of my favourite bands) because I can't listen to one specific song, I'll have to listen to every song that comes before it on the album as well. And if I just really hate one or a few specific songs on an album, but really like the rest, I'll just have to sit through the bad songs if I want to listen to the good ones, it's much better just to be able to skip them easily. I also don't think the comparison of taking similair movie scenes from different movies and putting them in a compilation is a very good one because the main point of a movie is to tell a story, of course albums can tell stories too, but lot's of them don't sometimes individual songs tell stories. There's multiple reasons for consuming pretty much all forms of art, and for music it is (for almost all people I think) mainly just the sound, so how enjoyable it is to listen to. Whilst for movies that is mainly telling a story, so having a playlists of similair songs from different albums/bands makes more sense than having a compilation of similair scenes from different movies because the main point of the music is getting enjoyment out of the sound, while watching a compilation of scenes from different movies would feel more out of place because those scenes don't make any sense without the context rest of the movie. Of course music can also be about telling a story and you can watch movies for visuals, and those things can be someone's favourite part about a certain movie or piece of music. But what I mean by "the main point" is that even if an album tells an incredible story, if the music sucks you won't listen to it, yet if the music is really good, but the story is bad, you probably will stil listen to it. And even if the visuals of a movie are amazing, if the story sucks and makes no sense, you probaby won't watch it either, again the opposite if it's the other way around. The "non-main points" are easier to ignore, so if they aren't good it's not a problem. Also I will continue using spotify just because it is incredibly easy to see all your stats and everything which I find incredibly interessting and comforting

For someone like me who has close to 10k mins of listening music on Spotify, I never(most of the time I meant) relied on playlist made by others. I have my own playlists(around 5 - 7) which has a specific subject in mind. For example, I have a playlist for Lofi music which I curated myself, and I rarely relied on Spotify's own algorithm for discovering music, maybe in some cases(eg., 15-20% of the time). And for the songs that I haven't discovered myself, were mostly suggested by my friends who also used Spotify. I understand the base of the conversation where people need to by albums or just a single track to be able to listen to any form of music and that Spotify's way of doing things is unsustainable. But if people pay for every single song they listen to or even paying more to discover new song/artists, what would someone from a relatively underdeveloped country do who doesn't have the ease of access to music that Spotify provides apart from pirating songs? I'm not saying that Spotify is all sunshine & roses. It is indeed unsustainable but what else can people do, who don't have a strong financial background?
