NNY Bees
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 พ.ค. 2016
Hobbyist beekeepers starting in 2015.
Natural beekeeping to me means allowing the bees to make their own comb and the use of no chemicals in the hive.
Our first hive is a top bar hive which made it through our first northern New York (NNY) winter.
The second summer I split this hive but neither hive made it through the 2nd winter.
Our second hive is the more common eight frame Langstroth 8 frame hive starting from a nuc, this also did not make it through winter.
I have also built a number of swarm traps to catch swarms, no luck so far.
I'm beginning 2017 by purchasing two nucs from a local beekeeper who does not treat and trying my hand at collecting bees from a cutout.
Been away from keeping and beginning again in 2024 with a single nuc. Plan to treat for mites with oxylic acid and keep the bees in 2 deep 8 frame brood boxes.

Mine have been bearding like crazy due to the heat.
Now get it into a hive and produce the miracle medicine
!!

Wouldn't it be good to widen the entrance?
No. predators would get in
Aren’t some of the workers positioned at the entrance where they beat their wings to induce air flow through the hive?
That’s correct
Name it Buzz Kill
Or no meat jimmy
Lol
Tulip
What should we name her?
Do beekeepers name their queen bees?
Ha, my bees beard like crazy right now during mid day
Providing some shade would help, too.
Who sells local nucs? I'm in Lisbon. Bought some hives this year. Most years swarms break from boxes up the road and live in a metal camper on my property. I assumed they would fly back home when, in reality, they probably died over the winter (I did a bit of research). If none make use of the hives, I'd love to know where I can buy local nucs. Any info is appreciated. The NNY Bee Keeper Directory is outdated (Mr. Martin's e-mail bounced back)
The Local Living Venture in Canton hosts a bee group. Reach out to them at locallivingventure@gmail.com. I got these bees from Adirondack Honey out of Malone.
Adirondack Honey has a Facebook page
@@nnybees6733 Done. Thank you! :)
Does he still sell nucs?
I don’t think he does.
Hi from Texas. Very nice, ill be looking for the construction plans to make my own.
How is beekeeping going? You don't post videos anymore?
Other projects drew me away but I started again this spring.
Shut up and get off youtube until you ,now what you are talking about
Simple / great method. I've read you want to NOT SHAKE frames to see Q cells but rather gently sweep nurse bees away.
That is some clean bee keeper protective gear.
You squashing alot of bees too that's why they are not so happy..
👍👍
Great work. I fixed aload of cross combing in my hive yesterday it was a disaster. I felt so guilty I fed them.
Very informative NNY Bees. Much appreciated
Good method, however, no point of making another box to accommodate the frame. Just cut the wax foundation and allow the bees to make queen's cells from such small fragment.
Wow, mantap madu nya
I am a beekeeper from the Netherlands. Cool video. I would like to build my own top bar hive one day, but i am still gathering information on sizes etc. Maybe a small tip: i stopped using the smoker with my bees. All i do now is spray some sugarwater on them with a plant sprayer. suger / water 1:1. They get calm as well as with the smoker.
Hello my beekeeper friend, I have a question for you. Great video by the way. My first hives made it through their first spring/summer with zero SHBs, zero wax moths, and believe it or not, zero varroa!!!!! Yet, it's our fall flow and I know this is the time their rear their heads if there are any. My question: If I do find some varroa and end up having a count that should be treated, what would you recommend if anything. It's a thriving hive. I'm a natural beekeeper like you, and my practices so far is to make sure they have the vitamins and probiotics to stay super strong. Plus its a super hygienic hive. Any info would be helpful. Thank you so much.
How is your hive going? I had too many struggles and have decided to treat
I also have started using OAV-yet I only treat once a year-in late fall. I treat three times-five days apart.
I really appreciate you caring enough to allow the bees to make their own drawn comb. I believe it is the building block to healthy bees. Tip for all of us, and I know from experience. If you make sure the hive is perfectly level, and add a true 2 or 2.5" starter strip to the frame, they most always build straight and build faster. Also, if you use wax or plastic I believe it is better than wood starter strips. All the best.
Good
We need more to learn how much is the best of luck in finding out about the possibility of working in the future
سلام عليكم 👍👍👍👍👍🐝🌹🔔

Video thansk you
Nice work, keep it up.
So nice to see beekeepers allowing the bees to draw their own comb. I believe it is the starting point for raising disease free bees. Hey, any ideas on what to feed bee other than sugar?
Fantastic! Great idea! Thank you this video and tips.
what hour in a day you inspect your hives, please? early in the morning? late in the afternoon? when is better disturb the bees minimizing their stress? thanks! (Italy)
Athamantide Hellè I find early is better as the bees are still slow to be getting busy with their day. Just keep in mind temps as far as brood goes.
Thanks, been looking for a procedure to do this
Great little video NNY Bees. My only critic would be on the second little nuc making queens. You don't have to damage cells to get queens made. Once a colony is queen-less, they will draw out the appropriate cells/eggs/larva all on their own. Sometimes we humans complicate the message, but simply put a queen less colony will make new queens as long as they have the fresh eggs to work with.
Clayton... The purpose isnt just to get queens from doing it with this method but to get a number of queens you might have plans for if you want to build up your colonies, yes the queenless hive will make queens but you dont know how many your going to get , this way you can allow for some losses in the making but you got more of a chance getting queen numbers you want.
Thank you, very informative
Thanks, that was helpful. I am beginning bee keeping and I'm going to start with a top bar hive and I appreciate the tips you gave, they were very clear and concise.
How did it go? Did you get a hive?
Hi Larry thank you for sharing a wonderful video on top bar hives, do your bees overwinter well in top bar hives in NY? What are your survival rates?
Learn before you try to teach!
Henry Kaldenbaugh ...he obviously did, that’s why there is the video, and as we all know there are many approaches to do one thing , there is nothing wrong with his method if that’s how he likes getting his queens and shared it with us , simple easy just another way to do things.
Wanted to see how your TBH are doing? I am getting 2 of them this spring
I ENJOY BEES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA th-cam.com/video/1DvQ2Sch-gE/w-d-xo.html
Hello Larry I used to keep bees the old way. I've had one top bar hive, and will start again this spring. I like top bar hives better. Your video was helpful.
Pretty slick!
Thank you Ken Thompson !!! Great idea! I will do all my frames that way !
Did you try this in 2018 or 2019, what were your results, thanks.
