    Spacing honey comb so that they make the combs wider is a technic to make slicing off the cappings easier for extracting the honey. Being that your brood nest is only in 2 medums, the bees will need this honey in the 3rd box to make it thru the winter and they will move up into this box by spring. So you will want the normal bee space of 10 frames for their spring brood nest. Next year when they are a stronger colony and you have supers on for your taking, you can space them to 9 frames.

      Thank you Karen. That makes sense, I'm not sure if I can squeeze a frame back in now. I'll have to take a look. I thought it might be more efficient for the bees because they would have less comb to draw out.
