Good topic good video production keep it up
Thanks!
And Californians wonder why they can’t afford to live inside.
CALI ONLY... sb 326 the balcony bill
VERY good point! I am sorry that location detail did not make the edit! Thank you.
this is great information!!
Thank you for your support here!
Thanks for your thoughts.
Are people moving to silicon valley?😮
Yes.
You left one advantage out. Older homes aren't typically made of spit and toilet paper.
I have to agree. 😎
Love, love, love this particular design of an Eichler. The atrium never disappoints. Sending thanks from PA. 🥰
I agree. The atrium is always a "great reveal".
Hi Susan, what a nice Eichler, love the stone wall and the atrium ; ) I was content with all of it. It looked easy to live in. Thanks for posting!
I agree! This one looks easy to live in!
Another great video. Didnt get to see much of the front. Love the original garage doors.
It's true. To be honest, it was 103 out when I filmed, so by the time I got to the front shots, I was melting. : )
Great house and tour😊
Wow!!! Love love mid century home
Grease travels through the house. The Philipine Mahogany gets dirty after years of bacon and burgers. Cleaning it brightens the home a lot. Some people remove the panels and have them refinished to make sure all of the wood is consistently clean. And some remove the panels to replace with zebrawwood and other exotic finishes.
Love this Susan!!!!🩷😎
Great video, as always.
Really fun to see an almost time capsule Eichler.
I agree. Another one that was very "time capsule" was this Willow Glen home. The built in couch AND the railroad! I feel like you don't see model railroads anymore. th-cam.com/video/JuyS086M1IE/w-d-xo.html
Absolutely gorgeous!!!! ❤love your videos! Wish these eichler communities weren't just in CA.
Thank you for your kind words.
gret video
Thanks Anwar. I appriciate the comment.
About the mahogany walls: First and foremost I'm going to say I am one that can appreciate the mahogany walls and other original eichler features. However, if it's MY eichler home I'm personally going to completely modernize it and paint over it because that's what I like. The addition: I think it's brilliant, it makes this specific home special and unique to other original eichler layouts. Susan-Have you toured the one and only one eichler condos in Santa Clara?
That is totally valid. The wood is certainly a color choice. What you actually could do is carefully remove the original mahogany, and offer it for sale to an enthusiast that is trying to do a complete original reno. That would actually pay for the paint job. Win-win
I like 👍🏽 👌🏾
Thank you
This home is back on the market right now
It sure is. Would you like to go see?
Mediterainian Monster comming soon
I am wincing and peeking behind my fingers. I hope against hope you are not right.
Your video is really well done. Thank you for this wonderful tour through this beautiful Eichler.
I’m wondering the original color of the bathroom shower tile? So much white these days! I would be hard pressed to think of this home as an Eichler had you not said at the beginning of the video. I get that it was built later, but it seems almost too updated. Great video as always, Susan.
We recently had our MCM yellow cast iron bathtub refinished. It was really showing all its 65 years of wear. The “Tub Surgeon” guy tried to dissuade me from going yellow and advocated for white (imagine)! The hardest part was matching the shade of yellow to the Crane tub. It was, indeed, a process that took a total of two days to complete but, the outcome exceeded our expectations and we are delighted with the final results. The cost was $625, in case anyone is thinking of having it done. BTW, I cannot get enough of your channel. There doesn’t seem to be an appreciation for older homes here in Northcentral PA, so it’s good to know there are preservationists out there.
Butterfly addition, I approve.
I thought it was tastefully done. And it certainly added living area to the house. Thank you for visiting!
Thank you!
Thank YOU.
Great Job
It seems the trend is to run a house down to the ground then sell at elevated market prices. “Deferred Maintenance” is such a common practice that it has become an art form.
I get your point. But to be fair, many of the houses that I see that have fell into really critical disrepair are occupied by seniors, often with no family around and lacking the liquid income to do the work necessary. We need to take care of our elders. (And in turn, take care of the houses as well)
Someone went full faux Lautner on that addition. Im cool with it.
😆 Thank you for the name drop! Yes they did.
Brutal, such a bummer.
"Brutal" is right. Probably time for me to visit again.
the train tracks! would be an awesome home for a train enthusiast to bring it back to its' glory. We live in a Mackay, love MCMs, thank you for showcasing this home 😊
Right?! I found them completely charming. Even if you have zero interest in trains or model railroad, it is evidence of a passion fulfilled and many many happy hours in the yard. This is good for the soul, so, it has to be good for a house to. Plus, anyone who can build something like THAT must be clever and handy. So it leads me to believe they would not let a lot of maintenance go differed. (Of course, if you were buying this house, you would want that all confirmed with inspections.) Thanks for visiting!
The house doesn't seem to have been messed about. It is criminal what some buyers do in the name of modernisation.
Although I'm as disappointed as everyone else to see an Eichler house destroyed, an owner has a right to do with his property as he sees fit. Just because I like someone else's house doesn't give me the right to to tell them what they can do with it. It's their property and they can put up a faux chateau if they want to. Furthermore, the house might not have been salvageable...mold, asbestos, termites, water damage, neglect, etc. can all render a house fit only for the wrecking ball.
Peter Pan Man- it is a fair point. “If you didn’t buy it, you don’t get a vote “ And, you are right, we did not “inspect” the place professionally. So we don’t know. I’m fairly certain it would be cheaper to scrape the lot and start over. The true sorrow is how the house got to “there” in the first place. (And again, we don’t know the struggles the owner was facing, so it is not ours to judge.)
@@susancornishrealtor1485 Very well said!
'... mold, asbestos, termites, water damage ...'. Those are all problems that can be remediated if you have deep enough pockets. The owners bought the "plot" and had no interest in the historicity of the house.
Would love details on the custom(?) pegboard behind you. Thank you!
Hello B. It is custom. My husband and I built it after looking at LOTS of on line tutorials. (tip, put scrap wood behind the board, so when you are cutting your holes, the plug does not rip out the bottom and shred the back side. )
@@susancornishrealtor1485 Thank you for the tip! I'll be putting my husband to work, lol.
I have tilled at least 15 Eichler homes in Palo Alto over my 35 years…
Nope, nope if something works don't fix it. Leave the mahogany alone.
And what do you think about the round addition?
I wanted to ask if it would be sacrilege to paint all the walls white. I'm not a fan of wooden walls.
Transform Real Estate TH-cam channel is rehabbing an Eichler Style home in Northern California and is asking for advice. As a real estate investor, she needs guidance on this project. PLEASE contact her! Thank you! Don’t get me started on the beautiful Eichler a real estate investor is tearing down in Miami because it’s old. Beautiful home!
Thanks for the note! I'll check her out.
@@susancornishrealtor1485 Great! Also check out interior designer Dani Klaric’s channel to see videos and shorts of the MCM home she was forced to leave, about 3 months ago, because the owner wants to tear it down to build a new home. He said the MCM can’t sell in the Miami market. Why that home isn’t protected is beyond me.
I need to get my hearing checked...
Love the home. I would think about taking down the back fence if it’s permitted to do so. We are mandated block walls where I live.
Interesting that cinderblock was required where you live.
@@susancornishrealtor1485 There are 14 pages of requirements in the town regulations. I am guessing that someone didn’t want rotting wooden fences, but, I am not sure. I live in SoCal.
Lovely home! Enjoyed the length of this video. Most are so quick. It was nice to take a relaxed tour.
Myrnajay, thank you for your thought. I appreciate that feedback. I think it’s interesting, but I hope to hold other people’s interest too.
So many fun little neighborhoods in San Jose, especially historic neighborhoods. Thanks for showing them to us.
Thanks for visiting! Which neighborhood would you like to see?
Love the Mid Century Modern homes, but when adding AC (mini-splits) please go the extra mile to enclose them with an aesthetic-pleasing cover (i.e, wood slats). In this walk-thru seeing the mini-splits gives the vibe I'm in an outdated motel.
Michaels - I have to say - hiding the "updates" seems to be eluding many Eichler owners. And it's a funny thing because when they were built GREAT care was taken to camouflage the "utilities". They put the mechanicals outside, in closets that were closed off behind hidden doors.
Wow that house past inspection in California? To many red flags to mention!
@@stevesancedo8821 Steve Thanks for watching and commenting. Which inspections are you referring to?
Sorry I didn’t clarify myself! I am assuming you are selling this house? So to the person that is interested in buying this house please have this dwelling inspected! Hire a reputable inspector! When you are using brick to hold up electrical or AC line on a roof that is very questionable! Don’t get me wrong I love the architecture of this home and the video. But some of the work/remodel is very questionable! Not my job to point out everything. Just have a private inspection before you buy this house. Might save you a lot of money down the road.
@@stevesancedo8821 Steve, Got it. Thank you. I think it was the "pass inspection" that I didn't understand. I make these videos in celebration of the architecture. Here in the Silicon Valley, the pace of the market is so fast that by the time you see the video the house is already sold. In a purchase of this significance I would strongly recommend using a knowledgable, active, professional agent in the transaction. They can help navigate the documents you will or should be presented with. Thank you so much for watching and for the conversation!
I’m from San Jose. We use to call these houses chicken coops in the 60’s.
Wow. I had not heard that before.
Gasp. Not the ending I expected.
If they rebuild anything other than a Echler style home it will be a slap in the face to the entire community.
I am still reeling from the shock of the scraped lot! 😢
like it!!!
Nice place! The earlier Eichler homes feel a little warmer to me. Always love when there is an atrium. Thanks for posting.....
Interesting note. Do you think that is because this one is a little bigger? Or do you think that the carpet makes it feel that way?
@@susancornishrealtor1485 Hi, well it's more about the support beams especially the vertical. They look like metal. Maybe it's just how they're painted. Makes me think more industrial. Maybe it's a 70's style? I do like wood or tile floors more. The living room area didn't seem as warm to me as some of the earlier built Eichlers. Maybe it's just my initial feeling.
@@myrnajay2785 Those are all interesting reflections. I believe they painted the beams. But the dominant feature is the chimney and the tube portion of the chimney is metal. (painted, but it still reads "metal".) and I agree with you. The brick and metal give a more "industrial" or "raw" vibe than some other Eichlers. Thank you for your comments and thoughts. I love the discussion!
@@susancornishrealtor1485 Thanks, mid century is part of my childhood. So, there's aspects that ring some bells. I love the style. And I really knew nothing of mid century architects. So I've really enjoyed your videos. If I win the lottery, you'll hear from me lol ; )
@@myrnajay2785 What a lovely thing to hear. Thank you so much.
