    I have a 53 Willys Panel Wagon. I put the body on a 2000 Ford Explorer 2-door chassis, it fits perfectly, same wheelbase and width. It also has the fuel filler on the drivers side. My plan is to relocate the willys filler to the other side. The willys body is thick steel, not like modern cars, so welding it isn't so hard, it just takes being careful, do little spots at a time to avoid warping. But I also think the filler spot is kinda ugly too, so I may just replace it with a door that only opens from the inside like a modern car.

    • @ProjectFaceOff
      @ProjectFaceOff 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like an awesome build. I sometimes wonder if my choice of frames was the best one but it was a frame I was familiar with and figured that having lots of after market parts available for the TJ Wrangler would make things easier....hopefully. Thanks for the feedback on welding. I think I just need to slow down. I'd be interested to see what you thought of the other videos and if you can tell if my welding is improving. I may have missed something in an earlier video, but what happened to the original hole in the firewall, and why couldn't you use the original steering column and wheel for mockup/measuring?

    • @ProjectFaceOff
      @ProjectFaceOff ปีที่แล้ว

      I could have used the original steering column but I had safety concerns around it. The one I replaced it with collapses during a collision and would connect directly with the Chevy LS wiring package. Additionally, with the larger engine and Jeep frame and steering linkage, I was going to have to move the steering column hole 1-3" towards the driver's side to make ti all work. If I remember correctly, I was able to sell the original steering wheel and column for around $200 or so which made justifying the purchase of IDIDIT steering column a little more palatable. Thanks for the question.

    A few times you refer to the donor chassis as a TJ, and then you refer to it as an LJ. Which one is it?

    • @ProjectFaceOff
      @ProjectFaceOff ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, yep, thank you for clarifying. The Jeep Wrangler TJ was made from 1997 to 2006. From 2004 to 2006, Jeep made the Jeep TJ Unlimited which was approximately 12 inches longer than the standard TJ. Because it was longer, it was dubbed the "LJ" (Long Jeep, I'm guessing). I used the extended version so that I didn't have to cut and extend the standard TJ. So although it is technically a "TJ Unlimited" Wrangler, most people into Jeeps will call them LJs.

With regards to the text boxes, I mainly watch TH-cam on TV and not on phones/tablets/computers so I'm guessing the way I consume videos may be different than yours. Randy, I'm pretty sure I make "how NOT to" videos and not "how to" videos. I've finally gotten the steering column in and my antics and mistakes will be published in Episode 7. It's comments like yours that make me want to get this project completed and feel humbled against other people's successes.. Thanks for the comment. Is your wagon on its original frame?

      Yes, my frame is original.

    I've been wanting to put A/C in my 53. Happy to see someone else do it so I can copy how it's done. Looking forward to seeing what you do for vents.

      What are you planning to do for your vents? Are you going to bolt/screw them on at the bottom of your dash or are you going to cut holes in your dash?

    I built a 71 landcruiser stationwagon for camping and I'm with you. Do your best and move on because it will get messed up while on a camping trip. Good Job!

      Thanks brother! This thing should look good….from or 10 or so feet. I have a daily driver Jeep that’s 25 years old. People cooler than me refer to the oxidation as “patina”.

      It's always a work in progress. I scour Craigslist for old-Made-in-USA tools. A few of the tools are from the 60's/50's.....thanks for the comment and following the channel.

    I am curious about which backup camera you chose?

    • @ProjectFaceOff
      @ProjectFaceOff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the Natika back up camera from Amazon. It got great reviews and appears to integrate with several different head units and a few types of navigation systems. Is it perfect? Probably not. But its a good start. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HNFWSQN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

      @@edlalosh8325 I got super lucky with the one I bought. They are rarely in as good of shape. It’s designed to fold out when the tailgate is down so that you can still see the plate.

      I have a 1950 willys Jeepster that I'm planning on mounting on my 1972 jeep Commando frame. I'm interested in how your doing your build. Enjoy

      @@chuckstith838 Chuck, I love the Jeepster. I don’t see them often but really dig them. A few years back I was on a Jeep club trip and saw two of them. The owner of one of them said that parts were impossible to find and that he had to fabricate a ton for his build. Have you found that to be the case?
