The "Origin of Islam" series is intended to provide a big-picture look at how Islam started, where it came from, how it evolved and how we ended up with the religion we know of today. I'm introducing the historical critical method as it's applied to the Quran and paint a new narrative based on primary evidence and linguistic analysis.

The Dome of the Rock: A Response to AJ Deus - 3 - Written Sources

Finally, we're having a look at the many written sources which are brought up by A.J. Deus as evidence for his conjecture of a late Dome of the Rock. But what do they really say? As it turns out, A.J. is misreading and misinterpreting most of his own sources. In many cases, they say the exact opposite of what A.J. claims they are saying. The Dome of the Rock: A Response to AJ Deus - 1 - Introduction
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A.J. Deus' latest paper on the Dome of the Rock has caused some waves. In it, he argues for a young Dome of the Rock with a fake history. According to A.J., the inscriptions are late forgeries and the Dome in its current form has existed for less than 200 years. Given how extensive the article is, I had to take quite some time to look into A.J. Deus' claims. As it turns out, none of his claims ...

As I am not from the religion of modern islam - I have no interest in whether Jesus was or was not titled "Mohammed" or whether this is a name or a title. But a little research brings your entire effort & theory to nill/zilch/naught/ridiculous when you try to prove that the Koran is a christian text or that "mohammed" is a title for Jesus - this is because the koran itself in its chapter 42, verse 13, 42:13, mentions Noah, Moses, Jesus in the same verse alongside obviously and implicitly referring to mohammed i.e. "and what we revealed to you" - a revelation only comes to a prophet or messenger in the biblical tradition so an argument saying "well it could just be referring to believers at large" also does not hold any water or reasonable merit. The koran may well be written in syriac / syro aramaic or a mixture of it and arabic but that does not mean it is a christian text or that mohammed is a title for Jesus. Moreover - there is also no evidence that mohammed is a syriac name or title - it is still recognized as an arabic origin name meaning the "praised one" not "praised be". There is no direct name or phrase "mohammed" in Syriac / syro aramaic that translates to "praised be". In Syriac / Syro Aramaic - "praised be" would be "ḥamda bī" Furthermore in Koran's chapter 33:40, it clearly says that mohammed is not the father of any of your men but he is the messenger of God - this clearly and without question identifies mohammed as a distinct messenger entity of God. The Koran may well have several aramaic phrases and expressions as the arabic language was in its infancy - i.e. a mix of syro aramaic and arabic was spoken, but it does not satisfy any of your theories about mohammed being a title for Jesus or that the koran is a non trinitarian christian sect text. It is a scripture written down by mohammed who identifies as a prophet and the scripture claims to confirm the gospels and the torah.

Those dots were not used by Arabs or 1400years old Arabic's. Therefore is no question of missing misplaced dots. This video is fundamentally wrong. Keep trying

The fact that the dots were not used is the point. Therefore later generations had to guess where to put them, inevitably making mistakes. You are fundamentally missing the literal point. Keep trying.

I have a serious question. How can we be told that the Quran was compiled by 652 or at tops 690? I mean if there was no Islam up till 800 & the Quran was written in harmony with the Surah & Hadiths how can everyone just agree to the Quran existing between 659-690? Have scholars missed 100-150 years of Quran's for 1400 years? I just can't believe it. Are there no whole Quran's from before 800? How can everyone have missed this?

There's so much wrong with this explanation. 1) The Quran does not say Dhul Qarnayn is Alexander or Cyrus. Nor does Mihammed. This is just the opinion of a few people from later times. 2) The Quran does not place Dhul Qarnayn in any timeframe. Dhul Qarnayn could easily have been a very ancient King from before recorded history. 3) Almost 90 percent of what is being narrated is not based on the information in the Quran. 4) The narrator keeps making premise after premise that is not based on any authentic Islamic source and derives all sorts of incorrect coclusions. I'd recommend anyone who is open minded to take an english translation of the quran and read through the verses about Dhul Qarnayn in surah (chapter)18 and it will be very clear that the Quran, like in many other stories in it, does not give unneccesary details. 😅 The video is full of information not found in the Qur'an. 😂

Actually, a specific political narrative makes perfect sense in this case as the Quran backs the Byzantine’s in Surah Ar-Rum (The Romans) promising them victory while Heraclius was being propagated as the new Alexander during the same time - the time of the Quran. See the Heraclius- Alexander stele in Cyprus depicting Heraclius with the two horns “Qarnayn” of Alexander (along with his hair style). The Syriac Legend was propaganda praising Heraclius and so you find similar praise in the Quran. Some scholar you are. See the work of Professor Juan Cole “Muhammad Prophet of Peace Amid the Clash of Empires” for more. Other allegories include the companions of the cave.

May be there were originally a book with some verses not understood by the people, so they reinserted some other verses as explanations or to justify those as per their understanding. Verse 22/52 refers to some general understanding about past prophets and their teachings got corrupted, but they take that to be related with the current prophet and inserted this 53 verse.

Quran definitely not a book revealed by a person at various instances of his life, but this book was carefully planned in need of a holy book, collecting pre existing literary stuffs and stories and more than one person should have worked on this possibly headed by a person. So whatever info learned they transferred into as a Quranic verses adopting those stories to monotheistic theme, the religion they want to propagate.

If the Umayyads were Syriac Christens, especially 'Abd al-Malik, the conquering of Spain to India was a Christian expansion. Before lauding him and his general al-Hajjaj for their conquering feats, this means that these Christian Arabs committed atrocities versus anybody who was not of their particular faith. See what al-Hajjaj did at least in Sindh through Muḥammad bin Qasim. It was tot capitulate accepting their faith or be decapitated.

There is some misunderstanding about Albar and Eulogius: Eulogius became an integrist catholic presbyter after his discovering in Navarre of a surprising book about an arab prophet called Moamath, a figure that had been previously unknown in Cordoba. Eulogius urged some catholics to martyrdom. The bishop of Cordoba, Saul, obtained permission of Abd al-Rahman II, whose actual title in Latin was 'Spaniae Rex Habderragmanus" to gather a 2nd Synod in Cordoba, where the clergy condemed the furor of integrist martyrdom and got to stop it definitely. Albar Cordubensis, from Visigothic and Jewish parents, was a moderate intellectual layman, who lamented the abandon of the cult Latin language in favor of Arabic: "Heu pro dolor, omnes juvenes christiani... harabico elloquio sublimati... linguam suam non advertunt Latini, legem suam (=religion) nesciunt Christiani..." Woe! All Christian youths skillfully speak Arabic... Latins avoid their own tongue, Christians ignore their own law (=religion)..." Eulogius was urgerd by his bishop to pronouce a mass in Arabic, he denied and instead came into the great mosque and proferred insults agaisnt Muhammad, he had the opportunity of retract and apologise, but denied, then was executes. Albar however did nothing like that and died peaceful at an older age.

Jesus is actually the Servant of God, and God put His Spirit on Jesus, according to the Holy Gospel. Let us read Matthew, chapter 12 verses 17 & 18: This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “Here is My Servant whom I have chosen, the one I Love, in whom I delight; I will put My Spirit on him and he will proclaim justice to the nations". Quran 101 in a nutshell ... The quran is originally partly (the so-called "meccan" surahs) a collection of christian preaching texts used by the anti-trinitarian jewish-christians called Nazarenes, they are called "nasara" (نَصَرَ) in the quran, while the trinitarian (orthodox byzantine) christians whom they fought and hated are called "mushrikuns" (مشركون) ie "associators" or "polytheists" because they associate Jesus to God (which is "shirk" شِرْك that opposes to Allah's unicity called "tawheed" تَوْحِيدُ ). So islam is originally a heretic christian sect.

I came back and revisited these videos after 2 years and I'm still impressed by both the breadth and depth of the research. I mean for this video alone, the sources include multiple editions of a 16th century Cosmographia, a 15th century pilgrimage book, an obscure Dutch encyclopaedia and a crusader time psalter. On top of that, there was research into multiple Dutch artists as well as an ancient Italian family which settled in Bruges during the middle ages. And more than just presenting what others produced, there is some genuine scholarship going on. The research is not just reproduced, but connected and conclusions are drawn. And compared to the other videos in the series, this one is actually pretty light. It's just that in this one, the process is more laid out. The other videos had way more sources and more effort going into them. It's amazing seeing this unfold in real time.

Sure "Muhammad" can be used as a title, maybe a title for Jesus, so for "Abd allah", but then we can also use these titles for Moses, Lot, Abraham, ishmael, isaac, Adam and whatnot. The Quran also seperates Jesus and Muhammad as being 2 different entities. In the Quran there is not a single mention of Jesus being Muhammad. I think its not sense making to say that because Jesus had a title like "Muhammad" or similar to Muhammad, doesnt mean it falsifies the existence of the Muhammad who was there in the 7th century. The Muhammad we are referring to is محمد بن عبد الله (سبحانه وتعالى), "Muhammad son of the slave of God", so this cannot be applied to Jesus, because according to christianity, Jesus' father was God and according to islamic theology, Jesus was born without a father. Also i want to say that "Muhammad" isnt necessarely a title, because before Muhammad, there were times when parents heard that there would arrive someone whose name will be "Muhammad" and be the prophet of God, so these parents gave their child that name. So then there were other Muhammads, who never claimed to be prophets or whatnot.
