I bought this album in 1976 aged 18 and it was a masterpiece of an album .. still have the original vinyl and a back up cd. It gives me such happy memories of dancing in London in indie soul clubs. Wonderment music

@1:17, That is so true, everybody thought this was a Stevie Wonder song when it was first released. I recall going to the record store (remember them?) and they were playing "Automatic" when I walked in. I went to the front counter and told the clerk I wanted to purchase this single playing by Stevie Wonder. He told me it was not Stevie Wonder, it's the Pointer Sisters. My jaw dropped and the 2 women behind me said "damn, girl I thought that was Stevie Wonder too!" we all busted out laughing, lol!!!

This and the rest of the Rufusized album is absolutely stellar! They have a great catalog, my favorite being the final album, Stompin’ at the Savoy! But as for their studio albums, Rufusized is gold!

Love this man, the most talented in the industry. There is no other and for those that are unknowing, get his music, you'll be better for it. Love you RP!

I listened listening to the album, I almost wore out the record. Ironically, I got to do three (3) original companies of "Starlight Express" My biggest memories of the show fil my heart with happiness. Thank you Ray Shell, for being a role model. I hope to meet you in person if you go to the 40th anniversary o the German Production.

I miss Doctor Buzzard Savanah Band from 1977. I was 15 years old living in The Bronx New York.

That song takes me back to when was twelve early 80's and standing on the stairs in our home back then was one of those section 8 type homes which was the newer homes, kind of small but two story,...well that song was on the radio and back then I didn't know what she was singing and thought the song was kind of weird but becoming....so now as I'm older in my 50's....I know it and love it!!! It still brings back those memories of those days...I thought the song was song by some weird older lady who sung some gibberish not knowing the song...but today I don't think that way anymore knowing the song and what it means and who's singing it actually....I LOVE IT!!!!

I remember getting the CD about 30+ years ago around the time acid jazz was hitting in UK as I recall a soul singer called Vivienne McKone talking about her. I absolutely loved it... the standout track is "In the Thick Of It"... absolutely classic timeless track... never heard Brenda talk before so it's nice to see her. I always saw her in the same way as Patrice Rushen... women singing highly personal songs with touches of jazz, rock and soul...

Is it too much to say Van Hunt is the best lyricist ever? I think he's so sharp, so witty and clever with his lyrics. He's my favourite lyricist anyway, I can say that much.

HAHAHHAA Stevie.... I admit I thought it was a dude, but I have actually used this song as an example of a true contralto voice range in my music classes. The students are shocked when they see the singer after I let them listen for a minute. God makes 'em in all ranges and sizes. RIP Ruth, you are beloved.
