Jingle Bell Tutorial

Welcome! Thanks for watching! These bells were made from Laguna Frost porcelain and fired in an old-school manual electric kiln to cone 6. They were single fired (not bisqued first) and fired on stilts that supported them from the inside. I will add a card to view the glaze firing once I edit that video. I hope you find the information useful. Please let me know if you have made these, or are t...

      @patspotpage 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      LOL, Jeff! Too late for the jingle bowl. Yes, it would be easier to leave the bells unglazed, but maybe not as pretty on the tree. They all ended up fine, though...except the two I dropped and broke! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    Thanks for this upload,. It was interesting to see you create the bells. I'm wondering now whether I could do something similar with air dry clay. Sounded like there was a bit of an audio issue with the incidental music constantly fading in & out. I'm sure I'm not alone in being more than happy with hearing your instructions without music in future. It would save you time in the editing process...bonus! Orrabest fae Scotland! 😀👍

    • @patspotpage
      @patspotpage 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, thank you for watching and commenting! I tried something new with the editing. My software has a music ducker, which reduces the volume of the music when there is talking. It obviously has limitations! Thanks for letting me know. Also, it sounded much different when I was editing. When I upload to YT they do something to alter the volumes. You may be my first viewer from Scotland! It's a place I've always wanted to visit, but never made the time. I don't know how well this would do with air dry clay, but you could certainly try. I don't know if they would ring quite as well. The clay has to vitrify in order to get a good ring...at least with my clay. I don't have experience with air dry. Let me know if it works!

      Awe, thanks Nat! Editing is the most tedious part, I think...worst than glazing! It was Spectrum's Glacier. Sorry, I should have included that. I'll have to keep the peacock bowl. It has a bit of orange peel texture in the bottom, so I won't sell it. But it's not bad enough to risk a refire, so...darn...I'll just have to keep it! I'll make more and use a little less glaze. @SarahWaltonPottery thanks so much! I think sometimes TH-cam plays games with the feeds. My subscriptions don't always show up right away either. I could only afford one and a half shelves, but someday, maybe, I can get more. I keep a grill cover over the kiln to protect it from the elements. Not ideal, but it's what I've got for now. It's a manual kiln, so no circuit boards. I hear you on the Aurora Green. I'm still undecided on it. Time will tell! Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @colonialhearthandhome

    love your work! I'm curious genuinely, how does the kiln do when it rains/snows on it? or do you cover it? So brave to have it outside, I would have never thought to do that and if I had I would be the biggest chicken to do it. ;)

    • @patspotpage
      @patspotpage หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much! I cover the kiln with a grill cover when it's not in use. It is an old-school manual kiln, so no electronics to be corroded by the elements. I would not put a digital kiln outside, as the humidity would not be good for it. Many people keep their kilns out in a shed or similar. A lot depends on your environment. Hi, Pat. Nice kiln opening. I really like the garlic keeper. Your mugs turned out great! Thanks for sharing!

      Thank you! It's so fun (and scary) testing new glazes! 😊

    I’ve been trying to make one of these in my pottery classes, but it’s been hard to figure out just from the pictures. Watching someone else attempt it, though, has been really helpful-I actually enjoy seeing someone else struggle through the same challenges.

    Well, overall, I like it. If you did it over, I’d say omit the crystals, but then I don’t like crystals. But the glaze colors are great together.

      Thanks SKC, I'm with you. Not a fan of the crystals unless they get drippy like on the cup. Maybe it's me. 🤣

      @@patspotpage My grandma had a ceramic shop in the 1960s, when crystal glazes first came out. I remember a brown Coffee Galaxy glaze - everybody used it on everything, especially giant boomerang ashtrays. Lol! I’m so over crystals!
