Dani's plants & snackyard
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 พ.ค. 2021
All about my (ever so slightly pampered) houseplants and little Urban Backyard Snackyard. With food prices soaring, I'm trying to cram as many fruits and veggies as I can into my small space.
I especially love growing fruits that we can't easily find in our local supermarkets here in England. It's such fun to try new and unusual flavours.
The dream would be to create a Food Forest, but my garden is only little, which is why I call it my Backyard Snackyard.

Merhaba kolaylı gelsin güzel paylaşim emeklerinize sağlık. Mutlu kalın.
very good.
Many thanks😄😄
Great to see your awards Dani. I have been eying your Fuchsia Boliviana for some time and this reminder has encouraged me to place an order with Burncoose Nursery for a specimen.
It's so great that they seem to be more available here in the UK now. When I looked for them a few years ago, I could only find seeds from Plant World Seeds. They had a great germination rate though; it was just a long wait to get them to flower and fruit😁
I was waiting for this video.. your award list did not disappoint. 🏆
Thank you, Sam. It was a bit delayed, but better late than never. I loved looking back and appreciating how well so many plants and trees did despite our crazy weather. Hope you have had a happy start to 2025!
Daniiiiiiiii 🔝
Thank you for watching!! Happy New Year!😁😁
He's such a cute little booger❤
@@CandysGarden aw, thank you. He was looking a bit neglected and his foliage was even starting to look a bit dusty, so I want to give him regular rain water showers until he can go outside for the Summer😁
I was watching your video for these (I was also considering purchasing these from farmer gracy) and you mentioned that you would go back further in the season to view how they were doing. I couldn't see another video in relation to these. How did they get on? Thanks
@@garymcewan4540 they completely failed in that area!! I think they were attacked and eaten by garden birds, so it really wasn't a good area to plant them. I was going to do a follow up video on them as I always like to see how plants fare myself, even if the results are negative, but I completely forgot...so sorry. I do have some growing in another area which is not as popular with birds and they were so beautiful.
Awesome. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks 🤗
Wonderful sharing. Have a nice day.
Thank you - you too😁😁
He really does look better after the cut! I have a tiny cedar tree that I am currently shaping into a bonsai. Should only take about 20 years 😂.
Aw, that sounds lovely. I find it fascinating how huge trees can be kept so small.
What’s the next video clip ? Can’t seem to find it. Got some for Christmas and want to make sure I know what I’m doing with them :)
@@rickie12 I've got a few videos on them on this playlist. Best of luck with them. They are such gorgeous flowers! th-cam.com/play/PLsjhsECvRcLFfycqS_lLSRZesmxHQNl5i.html&si=6Q8-1wWUrdOikyeb
Awesome❤❤
@@GardenGaloreParadise thank you. It's lovely to have a few plants in the house while the garden is sleeping 😁
Beautiful
Thank you. Happy New Year!
Beautiful sight 😍 Happy New Year 🥳
Wishing you a Happy New Year too, Joe😁😁
Happy New Year Dani, lovely to see colour around at the start of the year 😁
Thank you. Happy New Year to you too! Yes, it is so lovely to see some signs of life in my very soggy garden😆😆
I hope everything does well through the cold snap
Thank you so much. So far, so good!😁😁
That looks masterful
@@YearAroundBlooms so sweet🙂🙂
Can hardly wait
@@YearAroundBlooms it has been on my to do list for seemingly ages now, but every time I get some time, it's far too dark. Winter lighting is tricky😆😁
Cinnamon We made some cinnamon ornaments for the Christmas tree years ago, and it's such a great scent when you first decorate the tree or pass by it
@@YearAroundBlooms ah, how lovely. Christmas scents really are the best. I just packed away all our Christmas stuff and am secretly looking forward to getting them all out again in the end of November 😆😆
It's a work of art
@@OurMesmerizingWorld thank you😁😁
Cloves and oranges, awesome. It's baked cookies for me 😅
@@OurMesmerizingWorld oooh, yes!! I love the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls as well as cookies🙂🙂
Lucky Hope it grows well for you
@@OurMesmerizingWorld thank you. It's very slow, but I guess this isn't the best time of year for little seedlings.
I got the fake version and its so cute its my favorite color but not light pink but it so beautiful
They really are lovely. I'm so looking forward to them blooming again😁😁
Lookin' good!❤
@@CandysGarden thank you. It looks like they're starting to branch out a little 🤞🤞
Watery Winter 🥶 Happy New Year 🎊
Same to you! It was so beautifully frosty today. I doubt the plants were happy, but it was lovely in the sunshine😁😁
Very exciting!
@@PeterEntwistle yes, I only just noticed the new growth when I went to spritz them with rainwater. I feel a bit sorry for the ones I left outside as an experiment 😬
Happy New Year, Dani! I love those little hellebore flowers 😊. Hopefully, it doesn't get too cold 🤞
Happy New Year to you too, Peter! It's so icy here. I have covered my little sensitive guys, so fingers crossed they will be okay. I'm always ready for Spring as soon as Christmas is over😆😆
Happy new year 2025❤💥👍🎁🔔🔔🔔
Wishing you a very happy new year too!!😁😄😄
Splendid 😊 Happy New Year 🎊
@@philipwilkins Happy New Year to you too😁😁
Happy new year dani. I hope 2025 is a good one and the garden flourishes. What happened to your peacock orchids?
@@OliverCampbell-f6x thank you - likewise!! I had completely forgotten about the Peacock Orchids. They flowered so beautifully, but I meant to dig them up to overwinter them and save them from freezing temperatures. It's too late now...the cold is setting in here. It is going to be -5°C tonight🥶
@ no way! I’ve got some outside now… they didn’t flower for me. Did it take a few years? Should I protect mine?
@@OliverCampbell-f6xthese ones flowered in their first year for me, but I planted some in a shadier spot a few years ago which never flowered, so I think they need sunshine. The sun also brings out their beautiful fragrance. I believe that they recommend that we lift and store the corms in a dry frost-free area over Winter, but I will be able to let you know just how cold hardy they are after this Winter😬
@backyardsnackyard well mine are under conifers so protected but shaded… so might never flower.
@@OliverCampbell-f6x at least they're safe for the Winter then. Maybe you could lift a few in the Spring and see if planting them in full sun helps. They are so lovely.
Happy New Year Dani! 🎉 Thanks for the winter tour. One of my Hellebores is blooming. I don’t usually prune away the old growth until just a bit later. I always look forward to them!
Thank you, Bobbi. Happy New Year to you too. I'm really pleased I left most of the old foliage on my Hellebores now...I think they can use the extra protection during the next few icy cold nights.
Happy New Year Daniiiiiii 🤗
@@MaterazziSound thank you!! Best wishes for 2025 to you too😁😁
Damn these are fantastic fruit! Why they are not commercially grown outside chile ill never know
@@manchagojohnsonmanchago6367 it really is surprising. The plants are readily available in the UK now, though, and I keep spotting them in National Trust property gardens and the like, so hopefully it's only a matter of time.
@backyardsnackyard yeah i agree,. they are delicious relatively easy to cultivate, product a good yield of fruit and tase and texture is different form berries, they have a good shelf life, i cant understand why they are not a commercial crop, they also have a good range fo cultivation too. i had several quava berries in my yard living in new zealand the grew very well and always produced good fruit. and in australia too i planted them, asian moth species there can lay their eggs in regular guava but i found the guava berries never had this problem there. i always thought to grow them on a few acres and see if people brought them, they are really nice , i like them preserved than they with vanilla icecream
Happy New Year!
@@robynearl thank you so much. Wishing you a happy, healthy one too!!
Happy New Year 🎉
@@SamMTL514 thank you and Happy New Year to you and yours!
Happy New Year 🎉🎆🎊🎇 and all the best for 2025.
Thank you so much. Hope you had a great Christmas too😁😁
I had a slightly under ripe one for the first time recently. It tasted like a slice of raw potato with cucumber.
@@nonyadamnbusiness9887 oh no! That does not sound good at all!! Mine got quite sweet in the Summer - so reminding me of cantaloupe melons. My husband could still detect a hint of cucumber there, though.
😍😍😌
Awesome
Thank you. I love watching all the little white bumps get fatter and fatter until they explode into bloom😁😆
Nice healthy plant Dani☺️. My blood orange isn't because I do not know why are leaves becoming sticky
Oh no! Usually sticky leaves are an indication of mealy bugs or aphids. I find that spraying the plants with rainwater every day helps keep bugs away, but I have been fighting scale insects on my Finger Lime for months now. I remove them by hand - it's very time consuming and my hands get all scratched up.
Happy New year
Happy New Year to you too! Can't believe we're in 2025!!
Wow wat is your fave pepper tree for cooking, please tel ? I'm going buy loads plants this month jan! Danny
@@lonefoxbushcraft definitely the Californian Pink one. I have picked them in France and they taste wonderful and make a great pepper substitute in my opinion; they are a little sweeter and milder than regular black peppercorns.
Are they any good tho as peppercorn substitute ?
@@lonefoxbushcraft not really. They are extra spicy and lemony. I love grinding them up and adding them to all manner of dishes, but we love hot citrus flavours.
It’s very yummy with fish dish. I tasted the freshly picked ones in Calabria 2 years ago and love them so much! And now “Ma khwan” are in season to pick also! But I don’t have time and energy to edit the clip these days 😓 I think only Asian stores in China town in London sell them. But Szechuan pepper corns can be easily found everywhere
@@maiamongkolpattanachai2301 I hope mine will be okay in our weather. I brought him inside as I don't think the cold will do him any good. The weather is still so unstable here. It will be 11°C tonight, then -4°C by Thursday night🥶 I'll have to wrap some plants up tight. I really hope you feel better soon, you poor thing💗💗
@ Oh I thought they’re from northern China and could withstand the cold, maybe not? 😅 It’s only 13c here at night and we feel super cold already
@maiamongkolpattanachai2301 yes, the szechuan pepper trees are super hardy and completely deciduous, so they just look like thorny sticks right now and are fine in the wind and weather (it is so stormy out there), but the California Pink Peppercorn Tree is evergreen and doesn't like cold. It looks pretty sad after a few days out in my cold greenhouse😖
@ Oh right, it’s different one! Stupid me 😂😂😂I’m having Mapotofu now that’s why I keep thinking of Szechuan pepper corns 😂😂😂
@@maiamongkolpattanachai2301 oh, how delicious!!
Lovely! Happy New Year soon 🎉 Best wishes Dani 🥳🎊🥰
Happy New Year, Maia. May 2025 be very fruitful in every way😁😁
