🇯🇲 DAYS IN THE LIFE OF A FARM GIRL || FAMILY ON THE VEGETABLE FARM || JAMAICA
On the vegetables farm in May and June 2024.. some additional Cho Cho seeds were planted in grow bags, but then the Cho Cho Harbor began collapsing following days of heavy rain and wind. The Scotch Bonnet Pepper harvest continued and the plants were producing so well each week. Some Marigold seedlings were planted right by the Scotch Bonnet Pepper as a form of biological control for pests.. Then land preparation was done for planting Sweet Potato slips on the 1st of July plus a small garden was prepared for planting Pak Choy seedlings. Lots going on. Welcome.

Running a farm is continuous work. On this episode I'm correcting an oil leak on the Tiller.. harvesting Carrots, Ginger, Chayote (Cho-Cho).. pruning Bell Peppers (Capsicum / Sweet Peppers).. setting up Sticky Traps for insects/pests that get inside the Greenhouse.. plus giving the Lettuce, Pak Choy and Cilantro some foliar nutrition. Welcome (back).

It's a dry January to start off 2024. With newly transplanted Hot Pepper seedlings outdoors, as well as the completion of my first Greenhouse which will have Bell Pepper seedlings inside, I need water in my now empty farm tank. Let's get it done.

It's January 2024 and the vegetable farm has all my attention. We're clearing the Pak Choy garden, harvesting Cilantro, pulling up old Hot Pepper plants and badly torn plastic mulch, then laying new rows of plastic mulch before transplanting Scotch Bonnet Pepper seedlings. The reset button has been activated. Welcome.

The life cycle of Green Squash (Zucchini) is captured in today's vlog. From sowing the seeds to watching grow, to harvesting and preparing a meal out of them. It's a healthy, nutrition packed vegetable that's not too popular here in Jamaica, but I love it.

The Cho Cho (Chayote) Harbour suffered some damage following heavy winds and rain.. Weeds are getting the better of the recently seeded Carrot gardens.. And, worms are eating up just about every crop on the farm. No two days are ever alike. Welcome.

Love it
Debbie what's going on on the farm?
Heyy.. Thanks so much for checking up. I’ve had to be away from the farm for a while and I’ve also been unable to get the help needed to recover from Hurricane Beryl.. so, not much going on at all right now.
Its such a small worl i was born and raised in this same community that you are farming. 😊 keep up the great work
Oh wow! Well alright, and thanks for reaching out.. maybe we’ll meet up some day. Appreciate the love!
Is this Postdam St Elizabeth Plummer bush to be exact?
Hey there.. Yeah man, it same one! 🇯🇲
I heard that beryl did bad in Sainty but i hope you're doing well along with the farm and family. Can't wait to see the continuation. Stay bless up!
Sainty got it so bad. We just got back electricity based on how much work JPS had to put in to complete restoration. Every greenhouse was left flat and not many plants and trees were spared. Next video I’ll pick up from where this one ended, which was the day before Beryl. 🇯🇲
@CityGirlFarmsJamaica wow, light just come back...smh. I pray you rise up stronger than before...you will reap more than you lost.
I'm so glad to see you post a video. I realize that these footage were before beryl. I notice the strong winds had messed up the chocho harbour but dem chocho beautiful and powerful ♥️ Now, not to mention the prolific harvest of the scotch bonnet. Wow...amazing!
Yeah, in this one we got a taste of what Beryl was about to do and it was just frightening. The Cho Cho vines continued to produce despite the fall yes.. lol.. real fighters. ❤️❤️
@@CityGirlFarmsJamaica a real fighter like you 💪🏾 💪🏾
❤️❤️❤️
Hally need some real work fi duh 🤣🤣
😂😂
Nice
What variety sweet pepper is that ?
(Seminis) Revelation
You making farming look fun.😂
lol.. Life’s too short to not make living fun somehow! 🥂🇯🇲

She’s hilarious.

What are the fungicides apllied?
@sarathkrish1293 Hi there.. I use a mixture of two systemic fungicides at this stage.. Topsin and Carbendazim.. to fight mildew, mold, rot, blight and anthracnose.
Hey Debbie, I've not seen any cideo ainxe the storm? What's going on? I hope you're doing well and your family, too. I heard that St Elizabeth got real damage, but i hope it not as bad as I've heard
Hey there! Aww, thanks so much for reaching out. Yeah, that hurricane Beryl hit St. Elizabeth really badly. We’re still without electricity along with many others in the parish, but hoping that restoration time is less than the estimated ‘few more weeks’ at this point. I had offloaded footage to my computer just before it hit, hence the extended delay for my next upload. Lots of damage, but not a total wipeout thankfully. I put a short clip on my IG recently (@citygirlfarmsja). Hope to get a YT video out soon. Thanks again for checking in! ❤️
Interested in buying 100 pounds of yelliw scotch bonnet peppers
Beryl came through and cleared the field.
Congratulations Deb, nuff love and respect
Yeah it starts late may to about the 10th of June and it's not usually a heavy shower it's in the night dew and that's what makes it dangerous for the crops
Ooh ok.. Appreciate you sharing the knowledge!
I've been trying to get the link too so I could share it with you but I'm not getting any information about it and it's strange because I've known about it since I was a child and I even googled it a few years ago and it mentioned what it does to small crops that ive mentioned before and the time of year etc.
Ok, yeah.. I did a search too but nothing apart from a Jamaica Observer article briefly mentioning it and citing no more than its effects. Someone else I spoke with says he thinks that the start date is towards the end of May and it runs into June…
You are doing an absolutely amazing job. I look forward to the day when I scale up like this...awesome!
❤️ your comments!
Yeah and it's basically acid rain but this time of year it normally scorches/ burns certain crops especially younger and short crops like pepper peas etc.
Yeah.. in my neck of the woods the ‘seven-star waters’ damage has been found more on Lettuce and Pak Choy than anything else..
They sell something at the farm store that can help so make sure you get it and next time try to remember about it so you can be prepared and continue the great work
Oh ok, thanks.. I’ll be sure check for it. The actual effects of that I know of though, like scorching of leaves, didn’t take place this time, thankfully. What really had an affect was the volume of rain plus heavy wind in between. So it’s structural damage (Cho Cho Harbour and Greenhouse) that took place..
It's an annual event it starts around the 6th of June to about the 10th of June and it's dangerous for small crops like pepper tomatoes etc. and you can Google it the get the exact dates correctly
I try looking up seven star water but I come up with nothing...is there another name for it please.....
You're an inspiration, love what you do. Thank you for bringing us in. BTW could you add close caption,? Even though I am Jamaican, living away for a long time causes me not to understand what the guys are saying
Thank you for tuning in! Hahahahaa.. Closed Captioning on Gregory and Headley’s conversations are sure going to exhaust the video editing software…… But I will try! 🇯🇲
What u use to spray your peppers and at what stage please......
Am talking the sweet peppers
Fertilizer-wise?
@@CityGirlFarmsJamaica yes please
@@CityGirlFarmsJamaica in fact I just transplant out some sweet peppers
Oh nice.. Starting week 2 after transplanting, I used Bio20 (10ml/Gallon), Phortify (30ml/Gallon), CalMax-B (10ml/Gallon), Cytokin (15ml/Gallon) as the weekly foliar application.. for about 4 weeks
I hope the seven star water didn't effect you
How do u know when seven star water is coming?
Suffered further damage to an existing issue… but, could be so much worse.. taking it one day at a time as the Good Book teaches. How about you?
@@AliyaLee-j8jGood question. I think we need an old-timer to give us some wisdom on this!
Seven star rain is in the month of june@user-yb9bb4hv8r
I am so proud of you city girl. Keep up the good work, God will make a way. This is real talk though. Real real real.
