TUATAHI WORK AXE in frozen, high-janka hardwood, January 11, 2025 1440p
A few notes, as I stood on the log and chopped, it slowly began to roll backward.
I did not have any small wood or my trusty LOGRITE with me, having moved everything out of the area days prior.
At 4:54, the axe does drift in the cut twice, I attribute that to the axeman.
Ecclesiastes chapter nine verse ten.

What a beautiful and functional tool!
Chopping is coming along nicely and the work put in these last couple years is paying off!
@@MattKeevil Thank you for the compliments Mr. Matt...
I have one including their camp axe and trapper. All quality. Next favorites are my Gransfor Bruks.

@JoeHazlet Hello Mr. Joe, certainly warm for several minutes afterwards, thank you sir...
The sound each swing made was mesmerizing.
Thanks for watching...
Hello. please tell me, what is the weight of the axe?
I dont know why , but the comment bar doesn't come up unless I comment on someone else's post . Anyway . Nice chopping ! How does the Tui hold up to the frozen hardwood ?
@Кренгауз 6lb. 15oz. total weight on my digital scales. Good day to you, thank you for watching...
@gumboot65 Good morning sir...It is great, am I mistaken, or do you own and use one also? I was watching a highlight video and thought I saw you use one...
@@Brian2bears Thanks for the video!!!
@Кренгауз There is a TUATAHI playlist on my channel, fyi, no obligations...
Both you and Buckin are putting that tuatahi to work this week! Cool coincidence
@urbanlumberjack I think he said around the first but uploaded later, mine was chopped and uploaded Saturday...but yes, swinging TUATAHI we are...
Right axe for the job
@MatthewAmsbaugh You, sir, know... Glad you watched...
That ax will do
@michaelwhiteoldtimer7648 Good evening Mr Michael, a good one it is...
Chopping is looking great!
@MattKeevil Good evening Mr Keevil, thank you sir...
The axe sounds like it is hissing in the air before you strike. Hope so because that is badass.
Thank you so very much for solving this mystery! I've been looking everywhere to find out how to adjust the laser. I like using it but mine was off by about an 1/8 of an inch. The "V" guide/site is off about the same. So the laser will be easier to adjust than the saw's shoe plate. Saws these days should be more accurate and better than the past but they are not. I used a cheap Black & Decker for over 20 years. It was right on the money accurate right out of the box and still was when the motor finally gave out. Otherwise I'd still be using it. Thanks for saving my day!
@robertmooney571 Thank you, sir, for the great comment and watching, I am glad it helped...
Great video 👏 Appreciate you taking the time to make it and share with us. That big rubber bushing is the worse part of the whole process. I’d like to get hold of the engineer who designed it and have him post a video of him doing it ! Your video was very helpful. Thanks again
@edjet6031 Great comments Mr. Ed! The overwhelming consensus is to lube the bushing, my personal choice would be dishsoap. Great comment and thank you for watching sir...
Where do I find more info on the rules on the axe cord wood challenge?
@Julks1990 Matt Keevil is the Ambassador/Officiate, he would be the best contact. Basically fall, limb, buck, and split with only an axe. There are several challenges within the challenge, however... It surprises me each time that big axe breaks apart that knotty, gnarly wood. Great work Mr Brian! 👍👍👊
@andrewscott2866 We can't let it knot Mr. Andrew...smiles...I am glad you watched sir...
Good job Mr. 2 Bears😁 on your underhand chop, have you ever tried bringing the axe straight up above your head, versus to your side? I find it a lot more accurate.
Thank you Mr. Doug...on my swing, humbly, I would have to study it from a further view than what is shown here. As to the accuracy, as long as I chop regularly, I have no complaints. There are innumerable accuracy demonstrations, this one is a favorite of mine at a high rate of swings...th-cam.com/users/shortswGhW28taAJM?si=_d1pMFECeE_rSJcT I do hear that from several high-level choppers however... Glad you watched sir...
Awesome! The sounds of the swing-n-hit from around the 4 minute mark on sounded like some epic swordfight battle movie! Whooooooosh-chING! Haha nice What happened at 4:50 just before the log rolled, did it deflect off a stick? You had some pace going there at the end, good effort with a heavy axe👍👍🪓🪓
Yes sir Mr. Kurt, I noted the drift/skips in the description, I took the blame, I don't think it was a stick...coming off the FE8, I have a bit of git-up to work with yet... Glad you watched sir...
@@Brian2bears ahh ok I just read the description 👍👍
Awesome effort mate, great vid and spoken like a gentleman as always. Congrats on the Cordwood results. I always appreciate checking out your cabin as well, beautiful work. 👍👍🪓🪓
@kurts64 Thank you Mr. Kurt, a pretty fair year I guess. There are some fellas that turned out some good work this year, and one "new" guy...very enjoyable... Glad you watched sir...
Great job that ax is a monster
Thank you Mr. Michael, it is a big one for sue...
Nice video, I just shot a vid yesterday on there 5lb splitting axe. I’m happy with it so far. Seems like the the FE8 would make a good chopper. Also I dig the video!
Hello Mr. Julks...the 5lb splitting axe seems to be a good one, my FE8 is between 32.5 and 35 degrees, I have considered re-profiling to 20 and giving it a go as a chopper... Thank you for watching sir...
looks like a great axe. Shame we cant get them here in the UK.
A big chunk of steel Mr. Owen, it would be beneficial to see them widely available, glad you watched sir...
Awesome effort Brian thats some chunky wood for sure! 🪓🪓
Good morning Mr. Kurt, just thinking about you last night responding to Mr. KILLINGER, to see this axe in Australia would tell the tell...
@Brian2bears gday mate, there's a limited number of council models in Aus, primarily the bushcraft type axes. I'd love to test out the full size models like the daytons, splitters and the FE series.
@kurts64 A treat it would be to see some of you guys across the oceans with these in your woods. I have seen you in the comments on Axes & Stuff channel with a reprofiled FE6 being used as a chopper, I can imagine the FE8 would be spectacular...youtube.com/@jzelenko27?si=MmagQvDq3w573M3s These axes are relatively inexpensive here...
It still amazes me how this ax can split wood like this, you are a master of using this ax. How Council tools does not feature you in any promotion videos for this ax I can’t understand
@michaelwhiteoldtimer7648 A very nice compliment Mr. Michael, thank you sir...
Brian. Your efforts to showcase this axe are incredible. No one has spent more time swinging this thing than you and no on can argue your results. Your videos speak for themselves. I would also like to point out that no one has more actually axe swinging content than you. As the kids would say, you showed up with receipts. My initial thoughts on this axe were honest and true. I doont know whats different because we are not in the same section of woods. But something is different. I have split enough wood to know when something is off, and with mine, something is off. I cant swing mine 1000 plus tumes because i do not have the energy to unstick the thing. Looks like you got a good one! Or maybe i just dont know how to swing and axe? Im ok with that. As i said in my video, your mileage may very and dont takre my word for it. Havr your own exsperiance. For me, this axe was a fail. Maybe ill revisit it but after reprofileing the edge. As it sits, its a no go. God bless and keep em coming!
@@KillingerUSAMuch appreciation to you Mr. KILLINGER...your work with the FE6 prompted me to try the FE8. Possibly the greatest combination is the 6 head with the 8 handle. I must try a FE6 with the new handle for sure. There is no doubt the FE8 sticks in certain woods. On my part, just stubbornness and try sir...maybe the elevation. A very valid point on the wood and regions. I hear Australia is really tough. I have found our notes and communication to be very enjoyable on this subject and am thankful to have the opportunity and blessing of the platform... Thank you for watching and commenting sir...
I wondered about how this would do for splitting. If I didn’t just buy the ol no 7 not too long ago I would have picked this one up. You’re showing off its capabilities very well. The handle really interests me on this one.
@@urbanlumberjack Mr. ROOST injected that splitting wood was not Council Tools' primary intentions for this axe, but it is mine. I also really like the handle. The lines and esthetics of the head and handle are attractive to me. The flex of the handle is near perfect. Thank you for watching sir...
I’m not perfect with ppe but safety is no accident!!!
@timberandtools That's right sir...

That’s a mean tool !!
@timberandtools Yes sir, a good chunk-o-steel it is...Happy New Year Mr. T
@ happy new year!
Came across this old video and really enjoyed it! I’d never heard that about the flat, snd very special history on the axe. I’ve been being a flint edge jersey for a while and finally have one on the way I got at a surprisingly reasonable price. I’ve heard they are quite hard, how do you sharpen yours? Grinder or just stones? I’ll need to reprofile mine a good bit.
@urbanlumberjack Mr. URBANLUMBERJACK, a file will not cut this one. I used a Red Devil abrasive wheel one time, and it hasn't needed a touch-up since. I used this one this year doing some light limbing, still razor sharp...
Hey Brian as a fellow axe man would you agree that it’s much more Important to have a proper Profile on your axe then a Razer Edge I think it’s more Important just a question love the videos
@EmmettReese-nh9lg For a chopping axe, I want a file, stone, or leather stropped edge. Absolutely sharp. For splitting, I am not as concerned with a shaving edge. The TIMBERPILOT in this video was originally a splitting model with a 27.5 degree bevel and razor sharp. I maintained this edge with leather and a compound. When I reprofiled this axe to 20 degrees, I finished it with leather and compound. The TUATAHI work axe arrived razor sharp, and I maintained it razor sharp as well with the same leather and compound.
@ thanks that great to here👊🪓
What a great year you had. Love watching and learning from you. You say it is not a tutorial, but I believe it is for the safety parts you put in. I believe you can not stress safety enough in whatever you do. So, thanks for stressing it in your videos. But it is enjoyable watching you chopping. I know it is not as easy as you make it. But it is enjoyable, and you are teaching when you do it even without saying anything. Have a safe and enjoyable year with family and friends. Be blessed. My friend.
@JoeHazlet Same to you and yours Mr. Joe in the New Year. I can say without reservation, you are a great support and commentor sir... Thank you Mr. Joe...

Thanks so much for posting this video. I’m about to attempt this on my 034. Saw is leaking chain oil in the base. If the saw has been sitting for a few days it really smokes a lot when you first start it for a few minutes. But works fine. Thanks again
Action packed video and song!
Incredible, that looks like some of the hardest wood I seen
@viktor-rp7xl Good morning Mr. Victor, 1450 Janka, it is harder than all the oaks in my area but very choppable. Happy New Year to you and yours...
