Maya Quick Tips: Set Driven Keys Explained
In this Maya quick tips video , we will explore the concept of Set Driven Keys, a powerful tool in Maya that allows you to create complex rigs/animations by driving one object's movement with another. This technique can save time and effort by automating the animation process and allowing you to focus on the creative aspects of your project.
I start by explaining what Set Driven Keys are and how they work, including the different types of drivers and driven attributes. I then walk you through the step-by-step process of setting up a basic Set Driven Key for your rig.
In this video I use an antenna as an example of how you can use Set Driven Keys, there are many use cases for it. This is one of them.
If you guys have any questions, suggestions or even feedback. Please let me know down below in the comment section

EXCELLENT VIDEO!
Hello, your tutorial is good but when I play my video there is no volume the video works but without the sound. You know how to do ?
Hello, unfortunately in Blender video and audio have to be imported separately. For the audio you have to go to Blender's video editing workspace and import your video's audio as mp3 (you will have to export the audio only from your video through another program)
@@mansonakram thank you :)
MERCI ❤❤❤❤❤ THINK YOU ❤❤❤❤ FOR YOU TUTO 😊
This was so easy in 3Ds Max why do they make it so dificult in their own software 🥲
This video is very underrated! Thanks for such a good visual explanation!
even a year later your still helping people. this was straight to the point and very easy to follow. Thanks man.
what about the speed of the video?
Fix that before you import it. It should be the same FPS as whatever FPS you're animating in.
It still two different nurbs, and now you cant use "C" attachment to nurbs, usless
Thx !
Amazing, It works, thanks!!
This is a simple right-click > connect and delete in C4d. Jeez.
cinema
The thing that pisses me off most, is that there's no human-made video that explains this properly. For how much AI pisses me off, AI creators end up being far more helpful than people.
Thanks for the tutorial!
Hi, I've seen Specular maps which are Greyscale? Is there a benefit to one being RGB? Thanks!
Hi, yes there are benefits to rgb based specular maps as they have more control over how reflective none metallic objects (for example wood) can be compared to metallic/roughness maps where its even a lot harder dictate how reflective non metallic objects can be.
ty gangy
Best tutorial ive seen on PBR textures
I need help, when i render the animation the video turns grey :(
where is CP
a king among men!
Thank you! 1:10 I didn't fully understand this part. Could someone explain further?
He meant that when you create nurbs as rig controls. Put them inside a group and if you want to move that controller to a different spot then click the group and move it via the group offset and not the controller. Why? So that the translate values and rotate values stay 0
Thank you!
Easy enough thanks
Will there be a difference between scaling the armature with [control alt S] and [S] ?
[Control alt S] makes the box shaped bones thicker but does not increase it's length and [S] scaling makes the bones bigger and also increases it's length.
Shift+CMD click for Mac
Is there a way to change the speed of the video?
I do have a question: Is there a way to create a slider (e.g., a piece of geo or a locator in the scene that you can move) that can control the scaling of animation curves in the Graph Editor?
🎉❤
Plese learn more about Rigging. Thanks.
Well that was helpful LOL
You are my Hero! Thank you
Thank you so much, it's so easy
I need to add camera tools, but this method doesn't work with them
smart idea
Hello! how did you limit the trayectory of the controller to cap at a certain translation? for example if i want my controller to cap at Y 3 how do i make it do that? thanks in advance!
Hi p0m-p0mz, in order to limit the translation to be capped at a certain value (say maximum is 3 and minimum is 0). Select your controller (let's assume it is "antenna_ctrl") and then go to the Attribute Editor [CTRL+A is the shortcut for Attribute Editor[. The Attribute Editor will show you various drop down menus. Select the "Limit Information" dropdown menu and then select the "Translate" dropdown menu. From there you will see the X, Y and Z translations with check boxes that you can enable to limit them or not. Next to the check boxes there are values that you can adjust. For example, I want to limit Translate Y to have a minimum at 0 and maximum at 3. To do that, I will go to the box that says "Min" and leave it at 0 and then go to the box that says "Max" and change the number to 3. After that I enable "Trans Limit Y" Checkboxes on the left and right side. Hope this helps! You can do the same with rotations by going to the "Limit Rotation" dropdown menu and doing the same as I did with Translate Y.
And the reference video doesn't have audio, what if one need to lipsync 😢😢
You'll have to import the audio separately as an audio strip in the "video editing" workspace inside of Blender. Sadly at the current moment that is the only way of adding audio and video reference into blender.
Is there such a thing as over seaming a mesh for the UV map?
Can you elaborate further, please?
Thanks for easy tutorial for free
Doesnt work at all and I have 3.5.1 Edit: Idk why but it works now for some reason. Not yesterday .
Thank you
This is a great tutorial! I seem to have an issue when the video is imported. Every time I let it play the video freezes midway and it won't play the full video.
How long is the video in question? If video exceeds past the 250 frames (the 250 frames being the animation timelines default value). You can increase end frame value (again refer to the animation timeline and you'll see the "End" and next to it is "250". Hope this helps.
Quick and easy, like its supposed to be. Thanks
Thank you, Daniel. Glad that it has helped you😁
Thanks man for this short and helpful tutorial. Keep going 😊
Thank you so much, Sam. Glad to be of help 😁
really helpfull :DD
Yo, you have battery bar

Hi! thanks for a good guide. I have a question: I tracked some footage in blender and built some 3d objects & shadows on top and I would like to export just the 3D elements to lay over the clip in another video editor. Every time I export it renders with the video clip. I have tried unchecking render visibility for the camera, I selected transparent... all the tip I can find, still can't make it work. If anyone has some clues...?thanks !
Thank you for making the video. Very simple and effective.
thanks bro kiss kiss
Pretty confusing, but understandable if you dig in a little.
Straight Forward. thanks!
