I got screwed out of playing 5e on FantasyGrounds. Blizzards only allows then to update the PHB as the new 2024 came out. So no pre 2024 version, and I hate the D&D One. I want 5e 2014 and cant get it.

Might be time to revisit this topic, as the environment has expanded to include several more VTTs, some of which are free for everybody to use. Great video, would have been relevant to me if I had seen it four years ago. First time seeing your channel too, so I have to dig through your library now, which is always a welcome "chore".

The German translation moved the term “Hexenmeister”, which used to be the Sorcerer, to the Warlock, and renamed the Sorcerer “Zauberer” (which is technically Wizard, to make it even more confusing). The “Wizard” was always “Magier” (Magician) in German D&D. This led to me creating a Warlock in Baldur’s Gate III, since that was now called “Hexenmeister”, even though the character’s background was supposed to be “dragon’s descendant”, i.e., a Sorcerer. So I would have had to go with “Zauberer”. 🤦 Well, I can always reskill with Withers. But I likely won’t change the first character to anything other than Warlock, now that I’ve started this way, since the Dark Urge is already a Sorcerer.

What about equipment?

You forgot to mention the nightmare of port forewarding for Fantasy grounds and foundry, If you have an ISP that doesnt allow 1802 to be opened your FU###ed

I have a very very simple fix for Venomfang, just make him a Wyrmling instead of a Young Dragon and he should be a dificult but completely doable fight.

This was genuinely so helpful, especially the Warlock explanation re: spell slots/levels and invocations. I was so confused when I read this on D&D Beyond with no prior exposure to info about warlocks.

I frequently use notes on Word files, but for some myopic ADHD reason, never thought to use a spreadshet with tabs. You just changed my game, sir.

Small nitpick about roll20, the host can share their assets as well, just limited to sharing in 3 games at a time

Fantasy Grounds prices have changed Standard License $20 and the Ultimate License is $50 (only DM needs a license with Ultimate).

As far as I’m concerned reidolth has a purpose already which is the defense of the natural cycle. His stationing in thundertree speaks to someone willing to protect the blights while hoping to slowly rid the area of undead without upsetting the ecosystem that has built itself up in town. That’s plenty of purpose not every single thing in the campaign needs a 5 step plan and thundertree as an encounter is already such a major jump from the other side quests, anytime you just throw a dragon in the mix it risks realigning your entire campaign, it’s immediately the largest threat in the module (nezznar kinda sucks) making reidolth hyper morally complex with. 12 step plan for the region just crowds everything imo

I’m currently at this encounter with my players and the one redbrand successfully fled. I can’t find anything about what happens in this situation. What would you suggest happens? Or is there any info that I may have missed?

Very helpful but could you speak a little slower?

Just make it a bonus action to one player, or a reaction when attacked Melee. Makes it look stronger but risking less of the party. Sell it by saying this Basilik has only 1 eye. Maybe a previous party attempted to kill it, and one eye is scarred over with a greatsword sticking out of it. Justification for lowering it'd game's ability, while also giving it flavor with less HP.

My SRD contains no monsters. How do I fix that?

So even with all the walls up and "doors" I assume players can move through everything? Or is there a barrier that's stops them from acting like a ghost

My players first butchered the cultists then disguised one of them and an invisible servant and drew the ash zombies in the nearest houses to Venomfang lair in the tower. Since the zombies are immune to its poison breath, it had to fight them, receiving damages in the process. The party attacked when the last zombie was destroyed and slayed the dragon which had about 2/3 of it hit points. I found their idea so clever that I had the dragon fight to the death :)

Roll 20 had a major security leak. I will never use them again. They are unsafe.

Goated Tutorial

Spreading the news about Dungeoneer VTT which is a free opensource download client with P2P for online sessions. its primarily made to be a DM aid but evolved into a full on VTT. It has some integration with dungeondraft but you can also just throw in an image as your map and then use its included tools to set up fog of war or darkness and light sources. It has a database with all the SRD info preinstalled but you can easily add homebrew or existing product you have access to.

i spend time on both and i have both of them and ill say FG ftw i think foundryvtt has more functionality and is very great but they lack a very important thing that fantasy ground has which is ability to use their cloud for your games and this is the most important thing for me, if you want to use foundryVTT and have high quality games without disconnection or things not loading for players you should do it on a server or a cloud your players will have bugs and not loading content if you use foundryVTT on your computer especially if you are using great maps or animated things and for foundryVTT servers the cheapest one will cost around 5 or 6 bucks per month and that will give you only around 200mb-500mb of space which is very limited and some months you maybe not able to play so money wasted other thing that made me stay away from foundryVTT is that all its extensions are made by fans, and with every update they do you can experiance functionality issues and the creator has to update it and not all of them do, of course you have the choice of not updating and using one version that you like but its still tiresome to get the right version for the extension that fits that version of foundryVTT Those are the main reasons i prefer fantasy ground over foundryVTT fantasy ground doesn't give u the headache to run ur own server you can just create a game and let players join and enjoy their cloud forever no monthly subscriptions the program is easy to use and have a small learning curve you will only need days to be good at it

Thank you so much , the entire problem i was having was related to grid scaling and by turning it into gridless and adjusting my own dimensions to the map scale that solved the issue i was having with my tokens being massive , my grid not working on my backdrop grid in the image and the scale of the image being distorted. Thank you . !!!

a wizard learning to manipulate the weave through study is something they can do because the origin of their magic isn't a boon gained at birth or tied to some bond or external source so it grows based on your dedication without the restriction of a third party or a distorted flow that isn't normal.... wizards learn like they do because they share common roots but the others have magical origins that are not compatible with most people so the same methods of learning don't work.... wouldn't say they can't learn like you said, they learn and improve their own magic while discovering new parts.
