No. You want to avoid doing this at all costs. A Newfie’s double coat protects them from the cold AND from the summer heat. When you shave it it permanently damages the coat.

Just wondering if it is difficult to slide loop over the buckle. Does loop need to be a little larger to allow for buckle?

THANK YOU so much for your video. I do not have a Newfoundland, but I do have a large dog. He is extremely skittish and has bad PTSD, which makes him scared of EVERYTHING! Because of your video we were able to clip him without any problems. I am so glad that I watch this because otherwise I would have tried to clip him standing up. Because he was laying down he seem to be a lot calmer. Thank you again from both me and my doggy..

I hope everyone knows that the advice in this video is wrong. Anyone considering grooming their dog should find a video made by a professional groomer. 1. Never shave a dog with a double coat. 2. Never shave a dog that short as they can get sunburned without the protection. 3. You are supposed to shave a dog with the flow of their coat not against it.

Newfoundlands' very thick double coat keeps them warm in Artic winters. Nonsense to say it keeps them cool in summer. Obviously, never observed a fully coated Newfy in a warm house, then seen the change following a haircut. Miraculous! You try sitting in a centrally heated house with a massive coat and try losing the heat through breathing and feet - it can't be done. Unfortunately, all the professional grooming advice about this is wrong...just observe the dog! And as for sunburn, don't take babies and Newfies out in the mid-day sun...obviously!
